the luncheon
LOCATIONS: Pecksniff Manor, Shropshire DATE: March 28th, 1982 STATUS: closed | @arabellafiggaf
The Pecksniff’s Luncheon was an important affair for the upper-class of the wixen world that not even what had happened in Diagon Alley on March 21st could cause the event to be cancelled. Of course, long from wanting to appear tasteless, the Peckniff’s luncheon was said to be dedicated to the victims of an horrific attack and organised to raise awareness and maybe even money to help the survivors. Truth of the matter, though, was it was simply another occasion where purebloods and well-off halfbloods could mingle and talk over the finest food and drinks and the towering cauldron cake that was at the centre of the buffet table.
This was the kind of occasion where people would measure the success of their offspring against one another, compare the number of children and grandchildren, their grades and jobs and where did they went for a holiday the year before and where would the go the coming summer. It was also the first major event of the season, and thus where one would score an invite to all the others that would follow, along with more private and intimate occasions: the kind reserved only for the lucky few.
Mundungus had showed up in his latest disguise exactly to make contact with the person that could grant him an invite to a very special, very hard to get-in event. Usually, this felt more the kind of place where Isla or Lu would go, but he had not been sure about the former and didn’t want to think about the latter, so here he was instead.
Well, to be precise, it was Theophylaktos Dedlock—Phil—that was attending the Peckniff’s Luncheon. He didn’t look that different from Mundungus when it came to his face, the colour of his eyes or of his hair. The differences where in his clothes. Gone was the punk look and the outrageously colourful shirts in favour of fine, dark blue robes. His posture was straight, tense, and completely difference from the relaxed way he usually carried himself.
Phil was someone who was a little arrogant, whose jokes tended to be more malicious than Mundungus’, and who knew exactly how to eat a cucumber sandwich without getting anything on the expensive silk of his clothes. He knew what to talk about to the pompous pureblood he was talking to and how to make the man laugh at his joke.
But Phil did not know Ophelia Hopkins, Mundungus did. And when he saw her just a few meters from him, he chocked on that blasted cucumber sandwich. “You,” he said, in a croaking and accusatory sound, between one cough and the next, staring at her and for a moment forgetting who he was supposed to be: Theophylaktos Dedlock, or Mundungus Fletcher.
