Good Timezones. Completely random question about Redwood. Do Redwood's children physically differ from pale tree sylvari and if yes in what way?
Good timezones Oz!
Redwood's children are different yes, all 3 of my trees have unique children! So for funsies I'll put all 3 here~ 3 for 1 bonus day in the ask box for a beloved mutual 💖
Just as Redwood (no pronouns just redwood or mother/father) is more animalistic in shape, Redwood's children are too. Redwood did not have any humans or major races to relate to, having grown deep within a forest in the far north before Jormag was vanquished and the land could be reclaimed by the norn. Instead the children take after the wildlife of the land, much more varied than the sylvari are. Some are quadrupedal, some have wings, all of them mix traits of various animals like chimeras. Not all are capable of human speech, but others have learned the languages of the forests and their inhabitants. Large fangs/beaks and claws, leaves that have morphed to function as fur or feathers, are all very much the norm. As the norn return they build a partnership of sorts, communicating verbally or through understanding and kinship with the animals around them. They also do not Dream, this tree was fortunate enough to land so far from Mordremoth's call that only a few children who wandered too far were pulled to the jungle. They can all access the root network of trees though, almost like a singular tree colony, to pass messages to Redwood or each other if the target is also near the same root network.
(My tag for Redwood, '#Redwood mother', also has info on redwood's avatar)
The other two I know I've talked less about significantly, but I've talked about the child of one a few times! Ty Lluan, my harpyvari, comes from a tree that drifted on the winds all the way to Dzalana, a land teeming with harpies. The Winding Tree's (he/him) branches as they grew were woven into a wondrous nest that grew to a thriving hub for both his own children and harpies seeking shelter during journeys as well. And naturally his children have all taken on traits of the harpies. Large wings with feather-like leaves covering their bodies, lightweight bark strengthening their limbs without grounding them, long claws to latch onto sheer surfaces or grip the ground for quick takeoffs and landings. They're naturally exploration, spreading far outside of Dzalana to meet others. While they're cautious, they're less so than most harpies and they build kinship quite easily with others. Humans look a little silly they find, being so fatherless and bearing no other advantageous physical traits. They find it amusing that the Pale Tree based her children on such people! They also were largely beyond Mordremoth's reach, but the harpyvaris do have their own dream-like network known as the sisterhood to connect them, along with bonding them to some harpy communities that live within the boughs of their father.
The third tree I have is the Deep Tree (any pronouns but defaults to it/its). This one did not go far at all, but as Mordremoth released the seeds it fell through the cracks deep into the Tangled Depths. Below even where explorers would follow in later years, where only chak wander and harvest the ley energy of the earth. This tree, with no sunlight and no promise of rain touching its leaves, thrived on the chak who wandered too close to the leyline vein it rested upon. It grew carnivorous, relying on flesh to thrive and therefore its children would need better advantages in turn than photosynthesis. The children of this tree are made so carefully and lovingly, each one hand-crafted by the tree from excess materials gathered from the chak and digested up through the tree. They have much more solid, fleshy innards that give all of them a rich, deep jewel-tone to their coloration, covered by a very tough armor-like bark that is slightly translucent to increase the visibility of their glow for their siblings. They lack complex eyes, living in near-darkness and can see basic colors and shapes and heat, but can not make out anything too complicated or details. They can control how visible their blood is by pumping it up to the surface under their bark to communicate with each other, chittering as well to be heard and communicate. Their mouths are complex enough that they can form other complex languages if taught, but there will always be a clicking, sharp accent to them. They're sweet children, the tree functions as a hive-mind channeling all of its children's conversations and experiences through itself to increase the knowledge of all. If one child unfortunately finds a dangerous place none should follow, they will all know soon after and mourn their fallen sibling. As Mordremoth awoke and the tree felt the shackles wrapping around its children, it fully shut down. Called all of its children home before it was too late and closed its boughs around them, pulling their minds back to the network safe and trapped until the threat passed once more.
The Deep Tree's children are so naturally curious and born diplomats, though many would find them different abs therefore scary at a glance on the surface. It takes a long time for them to make connections and become known to the greater world around them, but some of the more adventurous do make it far enough to meet their cousins eventually. The surface is so bright they're functionally blind up there.

Give me Maya give me Tev!
Two characters time!! :D Gladly!
Maya
01. Full name: Maya Abeni Vereo
02. Best friend: Kito, and her little brother Keiran
03. Sexuality: bisexual
04. Favorite color: dark red
05. Relationship status: single
06. Ideal mate: patient enough to get past the fact that she has (understandable) trust issues, kind to her brother
07. Turn-ons: assertiveness, being protective (in a way that's not smothering)
08. Favorite food: banana chips
09. Crushes: had one on Kito for a bit that she has no intention of ever breathing a word about; had one on Kerra that's about the same; had a couple when she was younger on people who are no longer around
10. Favorite music: anything with words that she can sing along to (not that she can sing well, but she has fun with it)--tends to be popular songs and well-known folk ones
11. Biggest fear: losing Keiran
12. Biggest fantasy: her parents never having died, and her and Keiran being able to have a decently normal childhood
13. Bad habits: will walk into things that she shouldn't be able to handle alone just to prove she can, in fact, handle them
14. Biggest regret: walking away (at first) from her parents when she found them again
15. Best kept secrets: her specific holoforge designs
16. Last thought: "Wish they were open after 8. Guess I'll come back tomorrow."
17. Worst romantic experience: she'd asked someone out a few days before her village was destroyed--would have been her first date, but...yeah
18. Biggest insecurity: relearning where she belongs after everything that's happened, and feeling like she doesn't quite belong anywhere
19. Weapon of choice: swords, holoforge
20. Role Model: her mother
Tev
01. Full name: Tev
02. Best friend: his twin sister Ialyn
03. Sexuality: figuring that out (he's pretty little still)
04. Favorite color: bright red
05. Relationship status: single (and also a kid still who's really not at the point of dating yet)
06. Ideal mate: N/A
07. Turn-ons: N/A
08. Favorite food: mint chocolate chip ice cream
09. Crushes: hasn't had any yet
10. Favorite music: the song his uncle wrote for him (and aside from that, pretty much anything!)
11. Biggest fear: losing his family because of something he did
12. Biggest fantasy: his parents never having to leave home again
13. Bad habits: not so much "bad" as "concerning", but he isn't comfortable going anywhere without at least one dagger, and he sleeps with one under his pillow
14. Biggest regret: being away from his sister when she got kidnapped by the Nightmare Court, and therefore being unable to help her
15. Best kept secrets: the true extent of his own magical abilities
16. Last thought: "There's three more ziplines in Kaineng I haven't tried yet."
17. Worst romantic experience: N/A
18. Biggest insecurity: it's mostly related to him being unable to protect the people he cares about, but to also include a different something that's more lighthearted, he's still learning to dance and feels silly that it's taking him so long to pick up
19. Weapon of choice: staff (hand-to-hand combat, not magic) or daggers (he's gotten a decent amount of training from Caithe)
20. Role Model: all of his parents in different ways, Caithe, Rhi, Aurene
#gw2#tev#maya vereo#dasozelotvonnebenan#thanks a bunch for the ask! :D#maya just out here surrounded by people with k names lmao#she's definitely made a joke about that before#tev is still Baby#he's...like the equivalent of a 10-year-old right now; i think#or coming up on that at least#(and i say 'right now' as in the most recent story releases; so post-EoD)#gotta go dissect my timeline to tell you for sure but between 8 and 10 ish by the time EoD's over

I can relate to your trouble with making evil people. The one time I made a character to be simply just evil I really didn't like it. I feel slapping a funny bit on an evil character is exactly the right way to go in terms of making evil characters one likes.
yeah it's like, on one hand i don't wanna be boring and only have good guys but like. idk it just feels wrong to deliberately choose something actually awful OTL
morally grey? like either people who do bad things for good ends, or who just simply do not care past themselves, sure!
in the end, i'm not a writer, i'm doin this bc i wanna have fun, and if it's not fun then i don't have to swing that way, i suppose, or at least not as far as i thought i wanted to!

19, 34 and 38 for Adhlea
Given the first question, this art seems appropriate lmaoooo. Art by the ever amazing @vecticious ♥♥
19: What is your PC’s Pokemon Gym Leader type and Signature Pokemon?
Would 100% be fairy type, and I'm going to go ahead and say Sylveon. Adhlea is a Warlock with not one, but two Archfey Patrons, so that def fits.
34: Is your PC an effective communicator? What is their communication style?
Unless she's insanely flustered, yes! Addy is all about discussing and working things through. There are times where she relies on writing things down in her grimoire to answer questions, but I'd still say she's one of my more openly communicative PCs.
#38: How did you choose your PC’s name?
So funny enough, Adhlea was the name I originally used for my Solavellan kid way back in the day. When it came time to start working on a new DND PC, the name drew me back in. It just seemed to fit, along with the nickname. I just like how it sounds!
Ty for the ask! ♥

thank you for the ask! i picked adonis, lorne, and cordelia for this :-)
adonis
he's a coward at the start of the story. adonis would rather run away than fight or even simply stick up for himself. this changes, of course, but then his struggle becomes accepting that sometimes, you do have to turn tail and run.
adonis can't quite remember the time before his heart transplant. it's murky to him, like a haze has been cast over his mind. he chalks it up to having poor memory as a little kid and doesn't question it. he should.
adonis has been a character of mine since.... 2019? he was my watcher in pillars of eternity ii for a bit.
lorne
he's had so many different iterations wbsbwjsf... for now i'm sticking with my original idea: he's a knight errant that travels in search of adventure, accompanied by a creature named bramble.
lorne's used to have dreams of tracking down his father, who he and his mother lost contact with years ago, but the search proved fruitless. lorne gave up and became an unofficial knight instead. he trained with a retired knight he met during his travels.
without a noble house to swear allegiance to, lorne is free to wander as he pleases. it comes at the cost of being regarded as a "lesser" knight compared to those from noble houses.
i first made his character in november 2021!
cordelia
she starts out as a knight of house rinn with the title 'sirius,' which is unique to her specific noble house. just as sirius is the brightest star, cordelia is believed to be the knight with the highest potential in house rinn.
she doesn't go on many field missions, instead being kept within the security of house rinn's strongholds. house rinn doesn't know about her ability to see spirits and read souls, but they do know she's weirdly good at discerning if someone is being honest or not. criminals are brought before her for judgement.
cordelia became disillusioned with house rinn years ago, but the only two ways out of house rinn are disgracement or death. neither appeals to her, so she just tries to carry out her duties as normal and ignore everything else.
she's been around as an oc since october 2020! i actually went to renfaire in costume as her that year wbsbwjf

You liked my post. Your turn now. Your commanders ranked by scarring
uvu well if u insist!
From least to most:
Cora - The benefit of being exalted, no scars no injuries at all now!
Vuisce - Heals very well, exceptionally so since they've started physically altering from all the raw magic exposure!
Cara - Good luck landing a hit hard enough to leave a mark~ But if someone did manage to, they would scar easily.
Roibird - Heals well and takes notably good care of his body, doesn't keep scars easily.
Trella - A few lab accidents but nothing too serious in her life! Minor scars she has very fun stories for!
Marta - She doesn't scar easily, but lived a pretty normal adventurous norn life early on! She's also gained a few frostbite scars from her ordeal in icebrood saga.
Hastigi - Minimal scarring beyond some healed cuts from fights, pretty standard stuff for how much she's done.
Call - Scars stand out in her bark, but she's also pretty tough. Has a few notable marks to tell stories about, but nothing that would make you fear for her life.
Mai Trin - being a sky pirate who was very hands-on in a huge battle, defeated, fought through the fractals for multiple years, then faced even more threats in Cantha will leave you with some serious marks. Most notable is the scar from the bullet Ankka grazed her with that contained some necrotic damage.
Kai - Large scar across her face from when she fought her warband, lots of scars on her body that show through her fur from various legionnaire attempts to take her bounty once she was a gladium.
Roi - Her body is littered with the faint scars of her many attempts to rewrite the past. So many echoes of herself on her own body...Nothing that stuck too severely, but it's noticeable.
Joel - Massive head wound across half their head, but it no longer scars at all after that so this is the only notable scar.
Ruan - burn scars on their joints, healed well but still visible.
Matthias - Severe scarring across torso/back and minor scars across the rest of his body aside from hands and face.
Laighe - Missing a leg and both arms, severe scars from head down neck, chest, and arms.
Taomesin - Half their body mass is missing, from a leg/arm/huge hole in their back. The rest of them is badly scarred as well from various incidents.
Quaille - its body is one giant open wound at this point. help.
#dasozelotvonnebenan#thanks for the ask Oz! o/#some of these could probably vary in ranking depending on what's considered serious scarring this got a little arbitrary in places#but OVERALL it feels right

Ohh I'd love to hear your thoughts on your characters foci. Actually I'm gonna do that same thing for mine right now.
Alright, sorry for the long wait! Had to get my brain back out of the gutter.
So the one that came to my mind first was Finnéacht, a necromancer but also a mender (life and death are close after all). I can see him using any smaller plant or especially flowers as foci - envisioning them grow and bloom, the way nature creates and nurtures life. But he also sees them wilt, for the... darker part of the magic.
For Piinu, a mesmer who likes to get people lost in the woods using illusions, it would likely be a firefly (if living beings work as foci? I suppose a dead firefly in a jar would do the trick as well). Which is very literal considering her mesmer magic takes the shape of fireflies precisely to set people on the wrong path.
Tvekks, a chronomancer capable of (at least simple) time magic would likely have an object with fractal features on him. The repeating shapes symbolize time looping endlessly. Now here's the thing, I couldn't think of any other naturally occuring fractal other than romanesco broccoli from the top of my head and I really don't want to make a fool of this poor guy, but the thought of him carrying broccoli as a magic focus is funny. In reality it would probably be either a manmade object (asura love their geometric shapes after all) or if it's something natural, maybe a little fossilized plant with the right structure? Or maybe some of the shrimp he keeps have a natural colouration that resembles fractals, in which case he could carry around a piece of the carapace. Truly a shrimp mage. The possibilities are endless.
I have at least two more magic users (Glenn, an elementalist; and Ryto, another necromancer) who would likely be trained formally enough to have specific foci, but I couldn't for the life of me come up with a satisfying idea.
Most of my other magic users would probably kinda brute-force their magic through raw potential or utter chaos.
If I ever come up with something for the others I'll come back to this, but I didn't want to let you wait on this answer forever :D

Went to a CC hangout a while back where we got to chill and swap doodles. Bit like the art parties, but for guildmates who hadn't been able to make those.
I held onto these for a while so I could draw some more from the references I'd gotten... but my brain. Meh.
So here's what I did get.
A gathering of barkfaces to talk shit swap notes about fashion and socializing.
Winter gives no fucks actually. Valyrion is definitely learning something from this.
Commander Valoop has seen far too much and not been able to bite nearly enough people to compensate.
You might be looking like a chew toy right about now. You should probably step back a bit.
Valyrion and Valoop are from @dasozelotvonnebenan and Winterlayt is from @ruderubicante.
#guild wars 2#gw2#gw2 fan submission#sylvari#quaggan#art#other's characters#valyrion#valoop#winterlayt#heulwin#got some faster results than i expected with little artist cards and blue pencil and ink#you can't really fuss about getting details just right when the ink goes down and you can't take it back#(well you kinda can with white ink. but only so much)

What is Eyris favorite food and does Freya know how to cook/prepare it?
Eyris thinks there is nothing better than pancakes. She absolutely loves crepes with strawberry jam.
Freya isn't much of a cook, but occasionally, she will make some and serve Eyris breakfast in bed.

Three pens, very cool very cool, tyty!! :D I shall give you three different people for your three pens!
🖊 - Chieko is very much going to be jumping smack dab into the middle of everything that's going on in EoD right now. She's definitely not the Commander and also definitely hasn't been asked to, but she's been in Cantha with pretty much all of the members of her Pact squad for a while doing a) some research work for the Priory, b) helping to ensure there aren't any lingering Void threats in Dragon's End, and c) being diplomatic envoys in the vaguest possible sense. (Also, she's gotten a girlfriend in the last year.) It's close enough to within her job description that she could look into it, and she's also a very curious person who would want to help and figure out what the hell was going on. So her and her triage squad are going to get to experience The Horrors (TM).
🖊 - Pliarr has been a member of the Order of Whispers for years and is now a part of the Mesmer Collective. I still need to think through a lot of the missions he's gone on and will go on, so I'm not sharing details right now, but suffice it to say for now that this guy deals in a lot of secrets. He is, and always has been, a very talented mesmer. (He's also specifically a chronomancer.)
🖊 - Eethie grew up with parents who pretty much just saw them as a status symbol, if anything. Them doing well was a boon, them doing poorly was ignored. They don't really hate their parents, though that would be understandable; they're just incredibly indifferent. Their parents might as well be strangers.
#gw2#chieko nakaya#pliarr#eethie#dasozelotvonnebenan#thanks a bunch for the ask! :D#facts about three of my folks on this day
