Lucrezia Borgia was small fry compared to the likes of Fredegund (Merovingian queen whose trunk-lid neck-breaking attempt to murder her daughter inspired many, many fairy tale villains and even some crushed by garage door urban legends), Elizabeth Bathory and Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova (noblewoman serial killers who tortured servants and serfs to death), Catherine De Medici (oversaw the worst religious violence in France), and Agrippina the Younger (mother of Emperor Nero, assassinated her husband Claudius and a buttload of political enemies).

Damas Asesinas.

Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova was a Russian Countess, born Darya Nikolayevna Ivanova, on November 3rd 1730 to a well-connected Russian family- she would go on to torture and kill at least 138 serfs, mainly woman and children, only killing 3 men on accident.
Darya married Gleb Saltykov young and the marriage was cut short when she was widowed by age 26. Gleb left behind a large estate in Moscow called Trioskoe and some other property for her and their 2 sons, and over 600 serfs. People who knew Darya never noticed anything off about her until she met and fell in love with her second husband Nikolay Tyutchev. Things where well for a while until Nikolay had an affair, and married the younger woman. When Darya found out what her second husband done she beat him almost to death. Nikolay and his new bride barely made it to safety.
This is when the abuse on the serfs starts in earnest. The Countess would fly into torturous rages for no apparent reason and whichever poor soul was in her path had to deal with her rage. Saltykova was a sadist who enjoyed hurting innocent people, her methods would range from beating to death, boiling water poured on victims to locking them outside the estate naked in the snow.
One of the worst things about Darya was that while everyone knew what she was putting the serfs through her influence and power kept her from being punished for her crimes until 1762. By this time Russia had abolished the death penalty, so her sentence was a civil execution where she had to stand on a platform for an hour with a sign reading "This woman has tortured and murdered." followed by a life spent in the basement of a convent. In the later years of her life she would curse and spit at people who walked near her cell while she slowly lost her mind. At the age of 71 in 1801 Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova died in her cell. On November 27th she was buried with her family in the Donskoy Monastery necropolis.

Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova (1730 – 1801), commonly known as Saltychikha was a Russian noblewoman, sadist, and serial killer from Moscow, who became notorious for torturing and killing more than one hundred of her serfs, mostly women and girls.  Darya was born to the Russian nobles Nikolai Avtonomovich Ivanov and Anna Ivanovna Davydova. At a young age, she married the noble Gleb Alexeyevich Saltykov, uncle of Nikolai Saltykov. She had two sons: Theodore (1750–1801) and Nicholas (d. 1775). Darya Saltykova was widowed in 1755 at the age of 26. With her husband's death she inherited a substantial estate, where she lived with her two young sons and a great number of serfs. Her family members were already relatively well-connected with Davidovs, Musin-Pushkins, and Tolstoy’s family. With her inheritance, she became the richest widow in Moscow. Soon Darya, a Russian Countess, quickly turned from a noblewoman into a serial killer. Accounts state that Darya was having an affair with a young man named Nikolay Tyutchev. Tyutchev, however was also hsving a love affair with a young girl and they were secretly married. In a jealous rsge, Saltykova nearly killed her unfaithful lover. Tyutchev and his wife escaped to his relatives’ estate in Moscow and soon fled from the region. Soon Darya started wreaking her anger on her serfs, mostly women and children. The younger they were, the more cruel she would be. Saltykova’s cruelty had no simple explanation, as she would become furious for no apparent reason. At the beginning she would throw logs at her serf girls, when she didn’t like the way they were cleaning the house for example. Then, as her anger grew, she would beat, whip and torture the young girls. Often, she tortured these women, even children and pregnant women, to death. She was a sadist and took great pleasure in beating them, breaking their bones, throwing them out of the house naked into the frost, and pouring boiling water on their bodies among other vicious tortures. She didn’t make a habit of killing men - only three accidentally - although she tortured them by killing their loved ones. One of her serfs lost three of his wives to her. #destroytheday https://www.instagram.com/p/BqIBzKJhlQV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pbdrs7awtuzr
