Okay, more Tokyo Ghoul s/i musings, this time specifically about why she joined the ccg as part of the Quinx squad and what her deal is.
I still havent decided quite what the event that made her leave the coffee shop was (though I'm starting to form ideas), but the last the audience sees of her until season 3 is her shaken and scared from the ghouls.
When she appears again in season 3, she's gentle and friendly with her squad like she was with her co-workers at the shop, though a bit more reserved, but it's like she's done a full 180 on her stance on ghouls. Shes ruthless when fighting them and regularly talks bad about them, calling them scum. So the audience at this point has no clue what happened to her after leaving the shop to make her so harsh, like yeah she was scared last they saw her in the previous season, but it's such a drastic change from her previous forgiving and understanding attitude. It's not revealed until she shows up at :Re because she finally finds the courage to talk to her old ghoul friends (the ones that are, y'know, still kicking) since she left and spills the story.
She was pretty shaken after the event, I think I want it to have injured her and left her with a nasty scar on her neck and shoulder area so she was also recovering. She realized she was wrong to run off and quit like that, even if she'd been scared by some ghouls she knows her friends aren't like that and she shouldn't have acted how she did. Right when she makes up her mind to go back and apologize, to beg for her job back, she hears news of what happened to the coffee shop, of the raid and then how it was burnt to the ground. She was so torn up and tried to search for the other employees, but some time after that was when she was approached by a member of the ccg.
I haven't decided who approached her yet (Tempted to make an oc for this role. If not an oc then maybe Arima?), but basically they come to her and say they discovered that she was a former employee of the coffee shop, and it'd stand to reason that she knew the secret that the owner and its other employees were ghouls. Of course, harboring ghouls like that is a crime, and especially considering how high ranked the ghouls there were, she'd very likely be executed for it. Unless... If she would agree to join the ccg, then they could make this crime disappear. They tell her the ccg is developing a new project, and that she's to join this new team if she values her life. She terrified, she may have hung out with ghouls nearly everyday, but that's not because she's fearless. So, feeling like she has no choice, she agrees and a few months or however long later she starts her new life as a quinx.
Her attitude of extreme hatred for the ghouls is because she knows she's still being monitored, that if she shows too much sympathy then they could still condemn her for harboring ghouls and have her executed. So everytime she kills a ghoul with a cruel smile on her face, inside she sinks further and further in her own self hatred and breaks a little more. She's terrified everyday of the ccg, and she feels like a coward for prioritizing her own skin over the lives of these ghouls, but she's only human and she fears being killed as anyone else does.
Now, I also needed a why for the ccg member's offer. Why would they want this random girl to join? My working explanation for that is that before she worked at the coffee shop, she was in training at the academy to be a ghoul investigator. She was a model student, probably even joined like some like junior investigators program before the academy so she's been training for this stuff for years. She'd dreamed of becoming a top class investigator since she was a kid, because she believed that ghouls truly were nothing but mindless monsters who only hunted and ate. That view changed the first time she actually came face to face with a ghoul.
She was with some senior of hers from the academy when they were ambushed. Luckily, the senior had their quinque and fought the ghoul off. At first, she was in awe at actually getting to see an investigator at work, but then the ghouls eyes meet hers right before the finishing blow, and the fear in them is so very human. After that incident, she can't get that ghoul out of her mind, she keeps seeing those eyes, and she starts to question what she's always thought about ghouls; if they can feel fear in the moments before they're taken down, then wouldn't that mean they likely feel other things too? Everytime her skills were praised after that, she got a bad taste in her mouth thinking about what she was training for, thinking of possibly seeing that fear up close. She dropped out soon after that and started personally doing research into ghouls, which I think would be what was the start of her path to working at Anteiku and all this lead to her attitude of "you can't judge all ghouls with a blanket statement of monster".
Anyway, that's what I've got so far, seem plausible?

Setting/OC Master List
So for organizational purposes and my own sanity, I decided to make a list of settings I use as well as my many OCs because I’d imagine it could be confusing for some. So, aside from using tag stuff, if a short story I post here uses a reoccurring setting or reoccurring characters, I’ll mark it at the top like so: Setting: [Insert name here] Characters: [Insert characters here] I know not everyone cares about this sort of thing (it might even be annoying, which I also understand), but I have so many settings and characters I bounce back and forth with, this sort of thing will help give me peace of mind and hopefully alleviate any potential confusion people might have. So, with that being said, here’s the list. Arachnia (Setting): A dark fantasy setting that takes place on a distant alien world. Has creatures and concepts that can be found on Earth but also things of my own creation. Generally my go-to setting when writing fantasy content, though sometimes I use other worlds that are part of the universe Arachnia exists in that I refer to as the Elsewhere. Sometimes stories dip into science fantasy due to alien races and ancient lost tech. I often use this for D&D and Pathfinder games. Reoccurring Characters: - Vernar (An immortal shapeshifter and assassin who uses lighting magic) - Sonja (A young girl who was saved by Vernar from a cult) - Nicholas (An immortal sorcerer who regularly changes identities) - Katrina (A powerful hero with the strength of a titan) - Saint Rosalina (A young girl with divine powers that works for an archangel) - Gaap (A powerful demon that can teleport anywhere in the universe) Phasmovania (Setting): A science fantasy setting in my Elsewhere universe. This one is very anachronistic due to the mixture of different cultures in the region with differing levels of advancement. Some are more traditional fantasy and inspired by ancient Europe, while others are more weird west with guns, alchemy, and magitech. The world itself is post-post-post-apocalytpic due to various background shenanigans, so you might have one character who uses a rune-engraved battleaxe and another who uses a chainwhip with its own AI system that keeps unregistered users from wielding it. A setting I’ve used for Pathfinder games in the past. Reoccurring Characters: - Selena (An amazonian warrior who was banished from her homeland) - Razhiel Legwyn (A dapper ghoul shadowmancer who sells information) - Sombra (A four-armed sharpshooter that uses spell cartridges and dynamite) Bebop Bayou (Setting): Part of a larger collaborative setting that hasn’t been named, this corner of post-civilization Louisiana is populated by beast folk, a race of anthropomorphic animals with physical and sensory abilities similar to the animal they draw lineage from. This setting features magic, monsters, spirits, cryptids, and many characters with an accent in their dialogue (so people who hate that be warned). Reoccurring Characters: - Rina Woodshed (A gator girl who can breathe fire if she eats hot peppers) - Lafayette (A grey fox boy who makes traps and loves treasure hunting) - Scarlet Beauregard (A snake girl who can use magic by sewing) San Karina (Setting): A fictional coastal city set in the USA which is part of a larger collaborative setting like Bebop Bayou is. Set in the modern day, it features the adventures of a one-eyed boxer and a friend’s OC which I write with her permission. Has monsters, super science, and supernatural elements. Reoccurring Characters: - Sachin (A boxer that has naga blood in his veins. Adoptive father of Joanne.) - Joanne/Jaw Kid (A shapeshifting shadow girl that belongs to @thattechnique) Brightsville (Setting): A simple town with simple problems. The hometown of my ecchi OCs Sofia and Nikki. Stories set here are slice-of-life in nature with occasional erotic elements, but most will be wholesome and comedic. This is partly just to give myself practice writing stories with ordinary people. Reoccurring Characters: - Sofia (The good-natured adoptive mother of Nikki. Runs her own bakery.) - Nikki (A reclusive streamer that tries to keep her mother out of trouble) Springboro (Setting): A city loosely based off of Portland, Oregon. Main setting for a gay romance series Im working on. Like Brightsville, the stories written here are meant as practice for writing ordinary people, as well as romance (which I often struggle with but have an interest in writing). Reoccurring Characters: - Vincent Noel (An artsy florist who struggles to understand his feelings) - Yahya Gamal (A gay college student who is childhood friends with Vincent) Neo Tokyo (Setting): An extremely anime-centric setting with characters who make contracts with spirits to help deal with malevolent supernatural entities. Alternate Earth, alternate history, set in 2025 AD. Fantasy races like elves, lizard people, and other creatures appeared 100 years ago and still struggle to integrate with humanity. Neo Tokyo was built over the ruins of Oceanside, California after a nasty civil war took place between Western USA and Eastern USA. Features spirits, monsters, superhumans, cybernetics, robots, demons, mafia (both Russian and Japanese), psychics, and copious amounts of references (the current president is a giant weeb if that’s any indication). I typically use this for Mutants & Masterminds games. Reoccurring Characters: - Enapay (A spirit channeler who made a contract with Coyote) - Gertrude (A spirit channeler who made a contract with the Manticore) - Lt. Caden Waters (A police officer who often deals with spirits and the mafia) - Kiroku Netsumi (A powerful psychic who is part satori. A violent vigilante.) Shadowtown (Setting): A town populated entirely by monsters. Not a developed setting like the others; I primarily doodle character designs for the setting for funsies. Very Halloweeny. Reoccurring Characters: - Mr. Bones (A skeleton paramedic who married a ghost. Loves fishing.) So as you can see, I kind of have a problem. I am constantly generating characters and story ideas that never see the light of day, but that’s just the life of a writer, I suppose. Luckily with this list handy it’ll make it easier for me to keep things organized and labeled appropriately.

I keep meaning to talk about my idea for my Tokyo Ghoul s/i
I'm about halfway through season three at this point, and before this season I was thinking I'd have her be simply a ghoul from the start, but with the introduction of the Quinx squad, I fucking love that concept and now my idea is that during the first two seasons she was sort of a minor human character, but she comes back for the third season on as a main and member of the Quinx squad.
I think it'd be cool if she started out as a human who's very sympathetic towards ghouls and sees them as "yeah there's bad ghouls but there's also bad humans, we can't judge them all like that" and somehow she works at the coffee shop as it's only human employee (to keep her in the plot and stuff).
But, something happens mid season two/late season two that shakes her and her view of ghouls and she runs off, not appearing again besides like maybe a short cameo until season three, where suddenly she's a half ghoul.
I still have details to work out, obviously.
I'm not sure if this season two event should make her hate ghouls entirely now and that's what drove her to join the doves. Maybe last the audience saw her in season two she hated ghouls but then she mellowed back it a little by season three with still some bitterness. And also if maybe there's some other outside factor.
And also what are her reasons exactly for not telling Haise that she knows his past and that he's Kaneki.
I absolutely adore the Quinx squad, though~ I love that sort of found family dynamic especially when it's from a setting like this.
As for shipping, no solid f/os yet but like some little bit of crushing going on~
