Day 9, It was Easter. Ahead of us awaited Danseys pass, a tough little uphill climb that stretched about 35km and started from the time we left our camp site. The night before we were joined by @fentonthegirl & partner Adam, two well traveled bikers who had 9000km + under their belts and they were all over this climb like a rash whilst myself and Summer brought up the tail. We only managed to catch up with them when they had a break. Once we got back on our bikes they were well gone within 10 minutes. After a tough 5 hours of climbing we made it to the top of Danseys Pass. A tricky down hill decent and we found our mates at the pub already finished their meal. We were all chuffed with our efforts and celebrated with a few beers. Back to the campsite to put them legs to rest, and hold our heads high. #danseyspass #uphill #climbing #kingofthehill #cycling #bicycle #bicycletouring #camp #adventuretime #adventures #cyclinglife #bikelife #cyclingtheworld #freedom #freedomthinkers #minimalism #adventure #onlyliveonce #nomad #nomadic #crazy #bikelife #photography #nature #lifeoftravel #lake #bigblue @rollnnomad (at Danseys Pass)

No caravans. No towed vehicles. With all the warnings under our belt and duly noted, we left the crumbs of our delicious carrot cake muffins and dregs of our coffees at the Danseys Pass Hotel and set forth on the narrow gravel road that winds through the Danseys Pass. Up on the tops the wind moved the tussocks like waves as the breeze flowed through them. Apart from the wind there was a peace up there that I imagine mountain climbers find at the top of the peaks. We passed only three vehicles. Around one corner, coming towards us one half on our side of the narrow road, taking a blind corner at speed was a 4WD. No wonder his female passenger was clinging to the grab handle over the window above her head with both hands. She looked terrified. We stopped for lunch by the Maerewhenua River within a short walk of several deep pools that Mr S has enjoyed fishing from time to time. The fishermen in the vehicle parked there told us they had caught and released five trout. After lunch, relaxing and watching the river drift by, we eventually followed the river to the Waitaki Valley Highway. #eidlewise #travelnzopenspaces #kiwigreynomads #danseyspass #roadtrip (at Danseys Pass)
