insomnia crept in so i decided to just run all my wardens through & genuinely thrown by some of the results (but in a good way!) excerpting some of the interesting bits below for the sake of brevity

desires acceptance above all. to be known (and loved) as he is. not easily achievable when his identity is so completely subsumed by his OTHER desire

which is to be the Good Son: the kind of son that would’ve made his mother proud, the kind of son who makes his father happy, doesn’t give him any cause for concern

on the flipside he fears disappointing others, or becoming a burden

another fear which comes in VERY late in the blight but i can’t not mention it is the annihilation of his soul

he's become deeply religious (in the andrastian sense) after his mother’s death, so the idea that the reunion of his soul with those he has lost & with the maker will be impossible, that his soul will be destroyed instead is horrifying to him

unfortunately that also means it’s unfathomable to him to let someone else make that sacrifice and doom THEIR souls to nonexistence

chaya tabris:

desires power. not for the sake of having power over others necessarily but power enough to speak her mind, protect her loved ones, choose her fate, etc.

she's had so little of it for so much of her life and though you’d rarely glimpse it beneath the surface it has made her an incredibly angry person

i would say she isn’t consciously afraid of very much at all because fear to her is a debilitating emotion (see again: desire for power)

which isn’t to say she doesn’t feel it!! but she will often try to rationalize her feelings/behaviour in another way (of course she’s not afraid of mabari!! she just hates dogs… for some reason… after being held in the kendalls’ estate)

her loved ones though…. she definitely fears losing them. the precariousness of life in the alienage is sort of an inescapable fact for anyone who’s experienced a purge & the disappearances of women under the kendalls which took place for most of her youth

add onto that the events of daniyel & soris’ wedding, a second purge of the alienage, the lockdown & tevinter slavers, and her brother’s choice to sacrifice himself to defeat the archdemon and you have someone who is incredibly protective of her remaining family

definitely for the best that she undertakes the joining at the same time as loghain or else it would have led to a really toxic upbringing for her daughter
