My Kraken friends, the vibes of this article are immaculate. Just perfect. Also, OMG, some of the things that are linked to in here? Also CANNOT MISS footage. But, as an example, in case you don't believe me:
"Carson Soucy
The doctor is in, baby
In the penalty box, probably
Still, he’s got seven assists this year
Handsome. Knows it. Whatever, so do we."

Song Review: Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country - “Lose Your Mind” (Colbert)
Viewers who caught Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country performing “Lose Your Mind” on “the Late Show with Stephen Colbert” likely came away not knowing much about the band other than it tries to approximate the Allman Brothers as led by Dickey Betts in the 1980s.
And while Donato and company do do that, they also idolize Gram Parsons, the Grateful Dead and others. Furthermore, Donato, which this clip does not demonstrate, is an uncommonly accomplished guitarist. And the musicians in Cosmic Country are multi-instrumentalists who sing lead and occasionally front the band.
So while it makes sense Donato would opt for one of his least-exciting, yet most-accessible, songs on a platform such as this, “Lose Your Mind” is not particularly representative of the things that make his Cosmic Country such a promising young act.
Read Sound Bites’ review of the band’s Reflector here and Cosmic Country’s recent Ohio appearance with moe. here.

Nectar’s Presents and Nederlander Entertainment are thrilled to announce a pair of concerts at Covington, KY’s Madison Theater featuring two of the most exciting young acts in American improvisational rock music. On November 24th and 25th, 2023, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country and Trouble No More will take the stage for two unforgettable performances that will traverse the expansive realms of rock and jam music.
TROUBLE NO MORE AND DANIEL DONATO’S COSMIC COUNTRY TO JOIN FORCES FOR TWO CONCERTS AT THE HISTORIC MADISON THEATER IN COVINGTON, KY
Via Grateful Web
I don't go to concerts, but a ticket to one of these shows, November 24 & 24, is probably the tickect to have in 2023.

Saw Billy and the Kids at Pier 17 last night, and I must say that it was good but not great. Some very talented players, but a noticeable lack of cohesion. I dunno if it was due to under-rehearsing or Billy committing too much to the idea of letting everyone do what they want, but the group never felt like they were on the same page.
Just to start, the rooftop at Pier 17 is a wonderful place to see a concert. As someone who <3s NY, getting to see FiDi at night from that high up was a beautiful sight. The framing of the band with the Brooklyn Bridge behind them was awesome. Even when I wasn't that into the music, I was just having a blast seeing the city.
Back to the show, I found Set 1 to be kinda dull - some fun song choices, I particularly enjoyed The Race is On and especially the jam in Cumberland Blues. I think that's my thing with Billy and the Kids. I often enjoy the jams, because they can go to some really cool places. But when they're playing the composed parts of songs, it often sounds sloppy.
Also, despite being a brilliant guitar player, I think Daniel Donato might actually have a worse singing voice than Tom Hamilton. Sierra Hull was the only person in that band who could actually sing.
I honestly thought about leaving at set break, but am very glad I didn't.
Set 2, conversely, I found really enjoyable. Drums > Could You Be Loved had great energy to open. And some really cool jams during Bird Song. But the real kicker was the last three tunes- Take Me to the River was the most fun I had all night, which then went into a gorgeous Wharf Rat, and was followed up by a total face melter of a Franklin's Tower. That was Billy and the Kids at their best- just some ripping solos from everybody in the band. Lots of love going around, lots of chances to shine.
All in all, I probably wouldn't go see this band again unless they had someone I really really loved out there. You can tell the players in Billy and the Kids really enjoy playing together. There was a joy radiating off of every member of the band. I just wish that lead to more inspired music making.

Holly Bowling is MVP of Phil Lesh’s “Clubhouse Sessions” Episode Two
If she isn’t Phil Lesh’s best Friend, Holly Bowling is undoubtedly the most musically valuable.
The pianist was onboard alongside the former Grateful Dead bassist; guitarists Grahame Lesh and Daniel Donato; singer Nicki Bluhm; and drummer John Molo for episode two of Phil Lesh & Friends’ “Clubhouse Sessions.” And while everyone played an important role - save for Bluhm, who was stuck shaking a tambourine and/or her body, given only a few lines to sing - Bowling, who brings a bit of Keith Godchaux to the music while being her own musician, was the woman of the half-hour.
Donato, too, conjures the Father Band, as he echoes Jerry Garcia’s tone more hauntingly that anyone since a young Steve Kimock came on the scene. In fact, the licks he plays on the Grahame Lesh-sung “Black-Throated Wind” are downright ghostly.
Donato, who has a high, feminine tenor, sung a triple-time reading of “Ship of Fools.” And while his voice - he also sings “Row Jimmy” - is the type Dead Heads will likely love or loathe, the radical change to the music served the dirge-like composition exceedingly well and demonstrated the worthiness of messing with arrangements.
But it just sounds silly and like a cover band when groups pull stunts like trading verses as Grahame Lesh, Bluhm and Donato do on “Tennessee Jed.” In these moments - and during Lesh the younger’s frankly terrible singing on “Me and My Uncle” - it’s Bowling who saves the music, playing colorful, imaginative solos that remind listeners why the Grateful Dead turned to pianists Godchaux and Bruce Hornsby over the course of their long strange trip.
While “Clubhouse Sessions” are expressly for the ears, the eyes will get a smile in seeing how the band members’ clothes miraculously change throughout the video, as if it was a poorly edited movie.
Read Sound Bites’ coverage of episode one here.
