There are only a few in numerous evidence proving the existence of discrimination and violence towards LGBT students at school. In the twenty-first century, homophobic bullying is even more dangerous and urgent because of its negative impacts in the development of teenagers and in the future outcomes. More serious, it is also a threatening act violating universal rights of LGBT students. 

Whenever the continuing discrimination and violence towards LGBT students coming from the gap of policy, the undervalue of sex education, or the incorrect and antiquated knowledge of students and teachers, this issue still needs to be addressed. And most importantly, a plan needs to be built in order to improve the current situation.

In August the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, was devastated by major explosions, causing at least 181 deaths, 6000 injured, billions in property damage and leaving an estimated 300.000 people homeless. In its aftermath grief turned to widespread outrage with mass protests calling out the government's corruption and dysfunction and demanding major political reforms.

@sourafilmfest, @iqmff, @lebanese.nl, @detweedejeugd and @lab_111 join hands to support Lebanon by celebrating its rich (cinema) culture with a selection of films, talks and food from the region.

All proceeds of these various events and film screenings will go directly to three trustworthy NGO's

Reinaldo Arenas (1943 -1990) fue un poeta y escritor cubano abiertamente homosexual. Entre sus trabajos más conocidos se encuentra “Antes que anochezca”, una obra fundamental para entender y condenar la homofobia presente en la izquierda latinoamericana. Reinaldo Arenas fue perseguido, encarcelado y torturado por la dictadura de Fidel Castro. Arenas finalmente logró escapar de Cuba durante el éxodo del Mariel y se exilió en Estados Unidos.
