XKZKKZKS THE WAY THIS IS SO ACCURATE ??? OR AT LEAST, I EXACTLY SEE HIM LIKE YOU ?? OBVIOUSLY 100% POSSESSIVE, CHILDISH RAGE, ATTENTION SEEKER AND TOXIC. BUT AT LEAST, HE LOVES YOU, HE WANTS YOU, WILL DO ANYTHING FOR YOU ???? HE'S SICK AND JUST WHAT I NEED ??? need me a boyfriend so obssessed
Dandy shows his love by buying you extravagant gifts, mostly and it can get ugly if he doesn’t think you appreciate it enough. YES, HE'S A RICH MAN ✨‼️
So messy. That doesn’t matter to him in the slightest. Someone bothering you? Not anymore they can’t. LMFAOOO WE ALL KNOW THAT BLOOD DOESNT BOTHER HIM AT ALL. IT'S HIS THING FOR REAL
He cannot stand to be ignored. Any time he’s around he expects your full and enthusiastic attention. I WILL GIVE WHAT HE WANTS 😩😩😩
He’ll lash out at you, maybe even slap you which he’ll regret and try to make up for later. WHY I'M JUST SO CRAZY OVER HIM....WHY
Dandy Mott Yandere Alphabet
A = Attachment (How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?)
Dandy shows his love by buying you extravagant gifts, mostly and it can get ugly if he doesn’t think you appreciate it enough.
B = Blood (How messy are they willing to get when it comes to you?)
So messy. That doesn’t matter to him in the slightest. Someone bothering you? Not anymore they can’t.
C = Clingy (Do they require your attention at all times? How do they act when you ignore them?)
He cannot stand to be ignored. Any time he’s around he expects your full and enthusiastic attention.
D = Dependent (Are they codependent? Do they want you to rely solely on them for your care/protection?)
Dandy will be very upset if you turn to anyone but him to protect you. He’s very codependent and despite his outward confidence, also insecure.
E = Excess (Would they spoil or pamper you? To what extent?)
He’d spoil you rotten. Any wish or whim and whatever it is, it’s yours.
F = Fatal (Would they kill you? Kill for you?)
He would kill you but only if you pushed him to it. And then he’d probably kill himself afterward. And he’d certainly kill for you with ease and he’d enjoy it.
G = Give Up (What are they willing to sacrifice for you?)
Really, next to nothing. He’ll say he sacrifices for you, but it’s not anything that he’ll ever actually miss.
H = Harsh (How do they take to you mouthing off to them or saying something they don’t want to hear?)
He’ll lash out at you, maybe even slap you which he’ll regret and try to make up for later.
I = Inseparable (What are they like when you’re not with them? Do they check in on you constantly, or feel lost without you?)
Unless it’s his idea, it’s rare for Dandy to not be with you. He totally feels lost without you and tries not to stay away for any length of time.
J = Jilted (How do they act when met with rejection from you?)
Childish rage. He’ll throw an outright temper tantrum. Then he’ll forget about it and start from scratch until you eventually do accept him.
K = Kidnap (Would they ever abduct you just to have you to themselves for a while?)
He definitely would. You’re his prize, and once caught, you’ll be kept in his house unless he took you out himself.
L = Lines (Do they cross lines with you? What ones? Is it something they know they’re doing?)
Dandy will cross any line he has to. He tells you he hates to, but you know it’s a lie. He’ll do whatever he wants whether you like it or not.
M = Manipulation (Would they manipulate you? How? And would you realize that’s what was happening?)
He won’t really manipulate you, simply because he’s deluded enough to think you’ll already do exactly what he wants when he wants.
N = Naive (Do they like you pliant or do they prefer you to challenge them?)
He doesn’t like a challenge, so staying pliant and agreeable is your best way of staying safe around him.
O = Ownership (Do they feel possessive of you? How do they act when you’re around others?)
He’s 100% possessive of you. You’re his and his alone. He doesn’t even like anyone to set eyes on you if he can help it.
P = Petulant (Are they moody? Easy to anger? Or are they patient and forgiving around you?)
He’s very moody and extremely easy to anger. He does put on a very sweet act around you but it can turn on a dime.
Q = Quit (Would they quit any of their behaviors for you if you asked?)
No. God no. You’re just his pet, his possession. He’s not going to change for you.
R = Rules (Would they have rules for you? Brainwash you? Teach you the right way to be theirs?)
His main rule is to never leave the house. And he’d teach you all of the correct ways to be his. If you don’t follow them, you can expect serious anger.
S = Stalker (Would they stalk you? How far would it go?)
Before he brought you home, he for sure stalked you. It’s how he became so fascinated with you in the first place.
T = Target (What do they wish to do to you? How twisted are their ideals?)
He just wishes to have you, to look at you like you’re some kind of doll and to make you love him.
U = Utopia (How much effort do they put into making you happy?)
He puts a fair amount of effort into keeping you happy. But he doesn’t like it when you’re not appreciative of those efforts.
V = Violence (Would they ever be violent with you?)
Probably, yes. He’s prone to violence, but he’ll always get all sweet again and promise you he didn’t mean it.
W = Will (Would they ever do anything against your will?)
Certainly. He’s only concerned with his own will, so get on board or face the consequences.
X = Xoanon (Would they revere or worship you? To what length would they go to win you over?)
He would revere you as the pinnacle of his collection. And he’d go to great lengths to win you over so that you stayed his forever.
Y = Yowl (Do they ever make you cry? Do they enjoy your tears?)
He has made you cry, but he doesn’t like to see your tears. He’ll kiss or sometimes lick them away and soothe you, even if he’s the one that caused them moments ago.
Z = Zenith (Would they ever break you just so you’d stay with them?)
Yes. If there was no other way you’d stay and behave, he’d break you so you would.

"they brought back what makes Dracula so terrifying as a villain, especially to women" my dude I need to HEAR this essay PLEASE
Yeah I really should have said "particularly to women" because the general theme is applicable to anyone of any gender but in this film, it's about women- this is why I shouldn't write reviews late at night, bloody hell.
(edit) I feel I should clarify something - please do not watch The Invitation thinking that it’s going to be an A24-style Serious Horror Flick. While it’s got some serious themes included in the story, it is still very much a love-letter to old relatively-campy gothic horror vampire flicks. I had a ton of fun watching this film, but I also picked up on the thematic elements, too.
Anyway - I'm going to be vague here because I don't want to spoil things but here it goes (and this is a combo of my opinions and what the director/writer has said about her intentions)
The way I see it, The Invitation is based around the interpretation that Dracula is a symbol of rich, powerful older generations preying on, controlling and wanting to destroy younger generations. In this case, preying on, controlling and wanting to destroy women. It also explores how that level of power corrupts others and drives people (particularly rich, powerful people) to do insanely immoral acts, just for the sake of approval from their higher-ups. And just how far back this kind of evil goes.
It also explores how women from different eras and class backgrounds react when having their choices taken away from them. Some are power-hungry and are more than happy to sacrifice their choices for the sake of a higher position and don't give a shit about when it happens to women in lower classes, while others are struggling to find the courage to stand up for themselves so they accept that this is the right way for them to live and try desperately to find the positives in this.
But then there's Evie, the main character. She is modern woman from a working class background who is looked down on by her rich clients at her job where she works as a catering server, and can't stand it when she sees workers being mistreated by their bosses. So she's brought into this grand, elegant world filled with luxury and is swept off her feet by the lord of the manor. But then she realises that the price she must pay in return is the loss of control over her life. To basically become a prisoner and slave to her master/husband's whim... yeah, not-spoiler-alert-cos-its-in-the-trailer, she doesn't take that lying down.
So, to summarise - it's all about breaking this centuries-old cycle of violence against women and dismantling a system that thrives off the oppression of women.
Very topical film, wouldn't you agree?
But yeah, in conclusion - I fucking loved this film. These themes are present throughout and made even clearer as the film goes on. I highly recommend checking it out (it seems to be divisive so it might not be good to you but that’s ok if that’s the case - this is just my opinion) and I hope my vague ramblings make sense 😂

Hmm... a dandy gentleman who is mocked by his peers because he can’t live up to stupid society’s standards of what a “real man” is... and a laidback yet grumpy chaotic Goth who has a notorious reputation but is really not that bad, all things considered...
I guess what I’m saying is, Stede and Edward are (well, might be, it sure looks like it) the Ineffable Husbands: Pirate Edition.

One thing I really appreciated about The Sandman on Netflix was that it wasn’t gratuitously violent. This is a dark comic series, I understand that. But, personally, I think it’s way more effective when its either implied or you see the aftermath and even then not nearly as much as you’d think.
And I know the show did tone down some of the most disturbing elements from the comics but even then, it was still effectively disturbing without being gross about it. There was also a lot of focus on the dread and suspense building up to the horrific act than showing the actual act. Which is really good because that gives you more time to connect with the characters, so that when they do die or don’t die, you have a relatively strong emotional reaction.
Look, i’m a “less is more” kind of gal. And I thought that was extremely well executed here.

Time Period Quick Reference:
Courtesy the lovely Erin (@incre-et-painture) we now have a handy-dandy little reference to help us all “flow with the times” without having to struggle between either spending precious time researching or winging it and hoping for the best! She actually lived in England during the period in which our game is set, so if you have additional questions about the setting she’ll be happy to help you out--
Although keep in mind that this is an alternate universe. As such, specific individual facts and historical events may be different. So don’t worry about getting bogged-down in the details; after all, this is a world in which The Cold War was replaced by The Worldwide Witchunt Wars. There probably was no Cuban Missile Crisis; there may not have even been a Space Race! We’ve left particular historical details vague enough that we can tailor them to suit whatever plot-points we all decide to develop.
So just as with the timeline, view the following as a reference guideline, not a checklist to obey!
Technology:
This is probably the most important one for us, as unlike most Potterverse games we’re actually playing in a world where your character very well might have access to the sort of technology that we take for granted in our current lives -- albeit several generations older than what we’ve got on hand now!
Most computers operate using ethernet cords to connect to the internet, laptops weigh an extremely portable 52 pounds, basically, and camera phones are cutting edge technology. The pictures taken with them are notoriously grainy at this stage and definitely not the crystal clear video we’re used to.
Most mobile phones operate on a “top up” method where you pay for minutes. They’re called track phones in the U.K. Also, most people are paying per text message sent, but it’s still a popular method of communication. You can top up your minutes in most convenience stores and by calling into your provider’s number. There aren’t any smartphones, apps, and other things like that. Public payphones still exist, although they are fading out by this point.
Travel is done by taxi, bus, and tube. Lyft and Uber do not exist. Londoners love the Tube and definitely travel that way frequently. For frequent travelers, Oyster cards are refillable cards that are similar to the Metro cards we use in the US. In fact, 2004 was the first year that Oyster cards existed. They can also be used on the bus and train, but not on taxis.
Please also remember that trains are a popular method of travel for Europeans. They’re also very reliable and a great way to get around. (As for whether people would be comfortable sharing a carriage with someone who’s got stars by their eyes, well...)
Pop Culture: Sport
As much as it breaks my heart, Manchester United won the FA cup in 2004. (Mod Note: her Erin, maybe in this messed-up world West Ham isn’t a total lost cause? I mean, sport doesn’t have to have happened the same as it did in reality, and we’ve got so many crazy things going on here already -- wealthy Weasleys, werewolf-friendly Blacks, a living Regulus...stranger things could happen, right?)
For those of you interested in talking football, here are the league tables for that season. Please keep in mind that different teams are in different leagues so, if your character follows a team, make sure you know who they play. :)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004%E2%80%9305_Football_League_Championship
Pop Culture: Telly
The Television lineup in Britain in real 2004-2005 contained the shows:
Little Britain
Spooks
Eastenders
Still Game
Dr. Who (the new series had just started, but the reruns were still extremely popular and well-loved by a majority of British people)
Casualty
The Doctors
Holby City
River City
Blue Peter
Strictly Come Dancing
And news is broadcast on the BBC News
For a comprehensive list, please see this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_television_programmes_broadcast_by_the_BBC
Please pay attention to the years listed for each program to make sure that it’s applicable...and feel free to make up shows of your own that might exist in this reality! Just keep in mind that TV in England was a much smaller, lower-budget, more contained entity than the overwhelming glut of channels going on in America.
Pop Culture: Music
This will be a painful trip for some of us. After all, I think we’d probably all rather forget that Kelis ever proclaimed that her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard. However, it’s a sad fact that she did, and this is the time when it happened!
Now again, we are living in an alternate reality here, so feel free to make up other songs and singers and groups -- both mundane and magical; maybe the Weird Sisters and Celestina Warbeck don’t exist here (and maybe they do) but there are surely still some magical musicians (maybe some taking advantage of the “dangerous” aura their magic grants them, while others might try and downplay it) so please, let your imaginations run wild! Maybe this Brittany Spears never sang Toxic but rather Cursed...maybe this Goldie Lookin Chain wrote Wands Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do. Who knows, have fun! The following list is for reference so that you know what kind of music and what kind of bands (probably) exist in this world and this time. And, maybe, to give you all a trip -- pleasant or otherwise -- down nostalgia lane. Enjoy!

Random Stuff:
Since the standard closing time for a pub is 11 PM, that’s when “Needles” closes. There are after-hours nightclubs, and people probably go to them, but Needles does its last call at 10:45.
Prostitution is not illegal in Britain, but running a brothel is. Basically, a person can sell themselves, but you can’t sell other people. (I just feel like this is useful information.)
Gun Control Laws had banned both automatic and semi-automatic weapons. Rifles were still allowed for those with hunting permits.
Courtesy Millie @theinvisibleboi: 2004 is also the year Facebook launched (although at that point it would have still been restricted to school e-mail accounts) and the Olympics were held in Athens, in case anyone wanted to feel old! (Probably wix would not be allowed to compete...but if anyone wants to create some kind of controversial Olympics history or event for this world, or otherwise alter history to conform to to AU, please feel free!)
Again, please use this wonderful collection of data that Erin has so helpfully provided us with for as general reference, not uncompromising and stone-set facts that you must know, utilize, and memorize! None of us are expert historians and unless you do something really obvious like reference an iPhone or One Direction, we aren’t going to call you out on it -- especially when an “error” might just be a difference between this world and our own. This is just to help you get in the “vibe” of the time period, not information that you’ll be tested on later. So don’t panic, stay loose, and feel free to get creative!
Thanks once more to Erin for putting this together for all of us, and remember that if you have questions about anything else regarding England in 2005, please feel free to message her and she’ll help out as best she can!
