We sat by the Jabal AlFil to await the galactic sunrise. We had hoped to catch the milky way rising through the arched opening that gave this massive sandstone boulder its distinct shape reminiscent of an elephant. As the sun sank on the horizon, the last sunbeams lit the sand grains flitting in the wind, and a horse or sand materialised. Burnetface, the clan's newest deputy, had just come back from another solace trip. The dirt clung to his fur and made the white parts brown and the red stripes almost crimson. "Another one, lost to green cough." Littlestar sighed. "Dancingrock is doing the best she can. She still can't find any herbs-" "Because she's childish and incompetent!" "Littlestar! She's helped this clan for many moons! Almost 100 now." "And now her age is catching up to her. If your son even gets a simple scrape he'd be a goner." Burnetface flinched at the mention of Houndkit. His pride and joy. No. No he couldn't die. He promised the dying queen at the border that he'd take care of them. It's only been two moons since he made that promise. He couldn't just fail! Not so soon! At the sight of the shaking tom, Littlestar drew back and her face softened some. "...I will make one of the kits a medicine cat apprentice when they're old enough." The deputy didn't respond. She opened her mouth to repeat herself when Russetpaw ran over. "Littlestar! When are you gonna take me to train?" "...I'll do it now. C'mon." The she-cat struggled to get up, but did. And the two were off to leave Burnetface to his own sea of thoughts.
