You look up at Doc in confusion, "Hired? For what?"

"Mercenary work. You'll go on missions with Hank and the others."

"But..."

"You just healed Christoff faster than I examined him. If we're going to put up a fight against Player- er- the other Player, we need abilities like yours."

After seeing the damage the other Player accidentally did to Christoff, you understand Doc's desire to have you join SQ.

"You're right," you say after some deliberation.

"Good. We're on the same page then." Doc saunters over to his desk. "I have a looooot of paperwork to revise, so I would appreciate some solitude," he says as he starts sifting through papers. You nod and start heading towards the door.

"Wait," Doc interjects before you leave, "Sanford and Deimos have a mission soon. You should join them, so you know what to expect."

"Oh, sure!"

"Hank, go take the Player to them."

You stiffen up as you glance over at Hank, who blankly stares at Doc. Despite not knowing Hank personally for very long, you had a feeling he wasn't very fond of you. Hank catches you staring, startling you, but he doesn't say anything and exits the office. While looking back at you, he nods his head in the direction Sanford and Deimos went and walks ahead.

Reluctantly, you follow the intimidating grunt. The taps of your shoes following the thuds of his boots. Amidst the uncomfortable silence, thoughts about the car ride from earlier flood your mind. As well as Hank's reaction when you mentioned the other Player.

"Hank?" you blurt out, "I'm sorry about what I said. In the car I mean." You pause for his reaction--your heart nervously thumping with anticipation, but he forges on without a word.

"I um... I think we started off on the wrong foot." Hank stops short. You cease movement almost directly behind him. Without moving the rest of his body, he looks back at you.

"Quiet."

Before you can apologize further, Hank quickly moves on and leaves you behind. Deciding it would be best to just leave him alone, you silently follow. Soon enough Hank points out a door and plants himself across from it. As Hank leans against the wall and crosses his arms, you knock on the door. You can hear two people talking from behind the door, presumably Sanford and Deimos. The talking grows closer.

"Look, Ford, I'm sorry for blowing up. I'll go ahead and get the door."

The door opens to reveal Deimos who blankly stares at you once you're in sight.

"Give me a moment," he calmly says before closing the door.

"SANFOOORD. The IMPOSTOR is here."

I've read @dallyfae's and @cosmica-galaxy's self aware madness combats (which both r amazing check em out),while doing the dishes I had 1 pop into mind which is self aware madness combat with where the player is mostly silent and the only time they speak is ether meme/music references or something that would make the characters pause then question if the others heard the player as well like saying 'i bet that weirdo would kiss big ego bitch.' after first seeing crackpot.

I saw an older post of a dieing god player/reader then thought,how would jebus, auditor and doc react to seeing soldier god protecting dieing god while shouting at whoever to not even try hurting their parent?

The dying god, who I'm personally going to nickname "Lost", is not really close or related to any of the other gods. Mostly because they fear exposure and are too tired to do most of the things the other gods are capable of doing. They are secluded and live in solitude most of the time, trying to protect their fractured soul gem from anyone that would use it for evil or destroy it for power. Also this was another followers original idea. So my headcanons might not align up to their own vision of the dying god, which could be different than my own interpretation. Rogue Player AU Headcanons

First of all, this is all based on Saltymongoose's Self Aware Madness: Project Nexus AU with inspiration from Dallyfae's Purgatory Mode AU. The Rogue Player AU explores the idea of *multiplayer* in Salty's AU (since there's a local/remote multiplayer option in Project Nexus).

Now onto the headcanons! Starting with the Players! (For my sake they'll be shortened to "Rogue" and "Newbie")

Rogue Player aka Player 1 used to be the normal Player we all know and love, but they became corrupted by the desire for more power and praise

Rogue's powers are amplified: anyone can be a vessel and the strings themselves can be used as a weapon

However, Rogue's powers have a very limited range... don't get too close

Now onto New Player aka Player 2 the reader insert. Auditor brought Newbie into Project Nexus in a last ditch effort to save his ass from the other Employers' wrath (and save Nevada I guess)

Unlike Rogue, Newbie has no established relationship with any of the grunts. So even though Newbie is a fan of MadCom, the first impressions are the absolute first impressions. Both for Newbie and the grunts towards each other.

Newbie is pretty much a mix of starstruck/intimidated when meeting the grunts (excluding Sheriff. Newbie was too preoccupied with Hank and Rogue to really react to Sheriff other than surprise)

Once Christoff gives Newbie the halo, it gets transformed accordingly, but the effects on their powers remains a mystery for now...

Now onto the main four + Christoff...

Unlike the others, Hank was fine with and at times delighted by Rogue's new violent tendencies. He was suspicious of Newbie's sudden appearance on a mission to pacify Rogue but didn't protest since they offered aid for that outcome.

Hank currently holds no allegiance towards Newbie aside from what's mandatory. He isn't convinced that the player Rogue once was is completely gone which tends create tension between him and grunts who think otherwise.

Sanford and Doc were the first to notice the change in Rogue's behavior. Sanford in particular noticed how eager Rogue was to fight alongside him and Deimos. Outside of missions, Rogue became more distant and less sociable. Rogue was even less receptive to the meals he cooked them.

"Did I do something wrong?" Sanford asked Rogue one day. "Of course not!" Rogue responded, "I just don't feel like myself lately." Sanford continued to worry as his beloved Player became unrecognizable.

Currently, Sanford hasn't met Newbie yet, but he is convinced that Rogue is no longer his Player. Since he believes the deep connection he had with Rogue is lost, he's more open to the idea of a new Player than Hank.

Deimos suspected there was something off when the playful banters between him and Rogue came to an end. Every so often they would shut him down, but now Rogue almost chastises him at times for his jokes.

Deimos could obviously tell there was something wrong but was afraid of wasn't sure how to approach Rogue. He talked to Sanford who corroborated Rogue's odd and worsening behavior. He assured Deimos it wasn't his fault.

Like Sanford, he hasn't met Newbie yet, but is also receptive to the idea of a new Player. Deimos feels like he lost a dear friend and would jump at any opportunity to regain the connection that rivaled him and Sanford's.

Like I said before, 2BDamned and Sanford noticed Rogue's odd behavior before the others, but Doc was the first to inquire them about it. During a check-up, Doc asked Rogue about their mental health, "I appreciate your concern 2B, but I'll be fine! Don't worry." Which of course made him more concerned. Rogue had acknowledged there was something wrong but wouldn't elaborate.

Doc continued to monitor Rogue's well-being and was disturbed by an increase in violence during missions and conflict with coworkers in SQ. He attempted to ask Rogue about this a few more times, but they began refusing to answer altogether.

Doc is more than open to the addition to a new Player. SQ needs all the help they can get. Whether he's open to developing anything more than a professional relationship with Newbie is uncertain. He still holds deep concern for Rogue and feels like he failed them.

Christoff remembers Rogue fondly from Project Nexus Classic but has not seen nor felt their presence in ages. This is why he was shocked at the news from Doc that his Player had gone rogue and aid was needed.

When he confronted Rogue, he could hardly recognize them both visually and personality-wise. Christoff thought he could save Rogue from whatever had caused this drastic change in them but was struck down by his own heroics.

Then at seemingly the last second, Newbie stops Rogue and saves the keystone fragment in Christoff's possession. It didn't take long for him to realize that Newbie was another Player. To ensure the safety of the keystone fragment, he gave it to Newbie recognizing them as Nevada's new savior.

Christoff was quick to accept Newbie as a new Player, but he still holds the desire to save Rogue and will help any way he can to make that possible.

Hopefully, I'll be able to upload Chapter 1 of the story soon since the prologue is done, and I got these headcanons done!

i know you mean well, and i know you like my purgatory mode series, and even drew fanart of it, which i appreciate.

but im truly sorry having to go here and telling you that- but i really would like if you could uh- you know, stop associating your god purgy with my series. if that even makes sense. (sorry, english isnt my first language)

again, im really sorry having to burst bubbles. i do appreciate your design on the player, i really do.

but….i think it would be better if you would make her your own player, rather than associating her with my stories, even if you’re inspired by it.

i know you’re changing her backstories and all, but would it be okay if you could also change her name too? perhaps its too much, but i think purgy would pass off as another kind of player rather than just being stuck in purgatory mode series because you got inspired by it. (im sorry if i sound like im bargaining)

i have my personal reasons on why im doing this, and i dont normally do this tbh. its not that because i have a dislike on the god readers troupe, i actually quite enjoy them. ive written some stuff there that are based on my life, and also doing the series as a coping mechanism, as well as other stuff contributing to it.

i know god players are kinda popular here, but i truly dont want my series to be apart of this until im comfortable enough to allow it, or until i write far enough in the pm au to give the ok. even if its your version of purgatory player.

like i said, i appreciate and love your design on purgatory player, but i feel like this is just going too far in the god players au.

i think your purgy can be better off being her own player rather than just a player in purgatory mode au.

as much as i want to allow you to keep her name, im afraid i have to ask you to stop. purgatory mode is more than just another au of saltys self aware au to me, since i kinda add snippets of my struggles here and there- like telling two sides of a story if you squint your eyes really hard.

I understand and it's perfectly okay to explain your reasoning and set boundaries.

I've been actually trying to abide by your wishes, as I've been searching through the tags to edit the God!Player stuff and remove your tags from them and even made a post addressing how you felt about it and how I was trying to remedy it, since you desire to not be associated with the God!Players AU. I've even been trying to rename Purgy. I still like the name, but I think it would be fitting to change it. But people already associate the name with my design, so there's going to be some difficulties altering it. I've also been trying to change her backstory to instead become the god of grunt reincarnation rather than purgatory, just to further separate the AU and end most similarities. It's just a habit that I keep calling her Purgy, and she is also now considered an original character to me. As well as making them different and set purely into the God!Player AU, Purgy won't have connections to Purgatory AU anymore. I'll be trying my best to cut the ties and change up the character. So no hard feelings. : )

"Alright, who are you, and what happened on the mission?" Doc says as he inspects Christoff condition. He didn't seem to be in a good mood after you three arrived at his office.

"A new player," you reply only for Doc to shake his head.

"I have eyes, Player. Who are you?"

You blank. It just dawned on you that you've been answering what you are and not who you are.

"Ahem."

As Doc's patience wears thin you reply, "My name is..."

You go on about yourself: your hobbies, day to day life, interest, and so on. Doc attentively listens as he checks the extent of Christoff's injuries. After a little while, you grow self-conscious, "Ah! I've just been info-dumping this whole time! Sorry about that..."

Doc looks up at you and shakes his head, "No, Player, that's exactly what I wanted. Now, I know who I'm recruiting."

"Recruiting?" you blurt out in surprise.

"Yes, Player, you're a valuable asset. Especially with that Nexus artifact on your head."

Having been so focused on helping Christoff, thoughts about your powers were put on the back burner. You're not even sure how the halo has effected them.

"I'm gonna be honest... I haven't used my powers since Christoff gave me the halo, so I'm not sure how they've changed."

"Well for starters," Christoff interjects despite his pain, "see if you have the power to levitate yourself, Player."

Levitation? The mere idea feels too advanced, but you figure it's worth a try. You stare at the ground cautiously holding your hands out in front. After a few seconds, your feet begin resisting the pull of gravity and lift into the air. First your heels and then your toes. Your limbs stiffen and wobble as if you're on a tightrope. The sensation of being suspended in air without any support is nerve-wracking; you feel as if you could tip over at any second.

"Okay, I'm done." Overwhelmed by the constant fight for balance, your feet snap back to the ground like a magnet attracted to metal. Your knees buckle beneath you, but you manage to catch yourself on an adjacent table.

"You will get the hang of it, Player," Christoff assures you.

"What other powers did it give you?" you ask intently.

"Hm. I could pull other object towards myself... There's also the healing property..."

"Wait," you interrupt, "Could I heal you?"

Christoff only takes a moment to think before saying, "I don't know, but I would greatly appreciate it."

You glance back and forth between your hands and Christoff, unsure how to proceed. "Okay, let's see..." While holding your hands towards him, the iridescent strings from before attach to Christoff from above. Soon, his bruises disappear and his pained expression fades. "How do you feel?" you ask as your arms return to your side.

"Excellent," Christoff said in awe of your power as Doc examines where the injuries had been.

When Doc finishes inspecting Christoff, he looks back up at you seemingly in better spirits.

"You're hired."

You and Christoff brace yourselves as Hank brakes with a heavy foot. Once the vehicle stops, you and Christoff look up to find the SQ building. "We made it," Christoff sighs out with relief. Needless to say, the ride wasn't exactly pleasant, but what matters is that it's over. You waste no time helping him into SQ to get his ribs looked at. It's only a few minutes later, you catch others gazing in your direction. It makes sense. You have an iridescent halo hovering above your head. Calling it "eye-catching" would be an understatement. After asking some workers for directions a few times, you think you found Doc's office. Just as you two were about to enter, the door flings open.

"AH!" You lose your balance for a couple seconds from the surprise. Getting ready to chew out whoever did that, you look up to find Sanford and Deimos gawking at you just in front of the door frame.

"Holy shit- Player, you're back!" Deimos drops his cigarette absentmindedly, and Sanford snuffs it out for him. Before you can reply, Deimos is in front of you pouring out endless gratitude at your so called "return".

"That's not our Player."

You whip your head around to find Hank down the hall a little ways. Was he following the whole time?

"Tch," Deimos's cheerful grin snaps to an irked glare at his remark. "Are you blind? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised, but this is obviously our Player-"

"You should ask them," Christoff groans, fed up with the bickering delaying his treatment.

"What do you mean 'ask them'?"

"They're right," you say looking away from Deimos, "I'm not the Player you think I am. I'm another Player. A second one..." You look back up to see Deimos staring at you with a mix of embarrassment and dejection.

"Hey Dei, we got confused. It's okay," Sanford says as he gently places a hand on his friend's shoulder. Deimos brushes off his kind gesture.

"Fuck that," he shouts and storms off.

Sanford watches Deimos with concern and turns back to you, "He doesn't mean that. Don't pay it any mind. I'm gonna go after him, but it was nice to meet you, newbie."

As Sanford runs off, Doc peeks out of his office, "What's going on out here?" he sternly says, eyeing the three of you that are left, "You know what? Never mind. Just get in here." After you, Christoff, and Hank shuffle into his office, Doc lets the door close itself with a clank.
