Remembering some of the bizarre stuff I have done in videogames for some reason.
-I played the intro to brave fencer Musashi on the PS1 over and over for like a weekend or so, I would beat it turn off the console then play it again, just because child me thought it was really cool.
-The first time I played darksouls 2 I didn’t know anything about the game, I was only told dakrsouls was “a really hardcore game without any of that pussy-ass healing potions”. I went to Heide's Tower of Flame, the zone with all the really big knights, I think I managed to figue out how to equip a broken sword, I got to the bonfire then spend hours trying to kill this knights while getting killed in almost a single hit and taking forever to kill them, I thought to myself “No wonder they say this game is hardcore I have no healing and all this dudes feel like minibosses, at least they have really simple attacks that aren’t that hard to dodge“. I did not know you needed the lady in Majula to level up, i also didn’t talk to her because I’m pretty sure I never even got any estus flasks so I stayed at level one killing them until I did it so much they stopped respawning, younger me only had perseverance but boy was he perseverant. I kept going until I defeated the DragonRider, the my computer got wiped and downloading the game again was a pain in the ass so I didn’t go back to it until I watched an LP, learned how to play and had the means to download it easily, I the played it like a human being would.
-My first experience with the Devil May Cry series was playing DMC2 on an emulator at half speed, I had virtually no experience with 3D action games at the time, I did play other 3D games so I at least could tell this game moved slower than it was meant to, so my thoughts were “I guess since DMC is such a fast action game even slowed down it feels kinda normal” IDK how the hell I got to that conclusion, idk what was wrong with past me, eventually I played DMC4 and it was pretty cool.
-I think I couldn’t beat the final bit of DMC4 which was meant to be a victory lap because I couldn’t figure out you were suppossed to parry the bosses’ 3 attacks with your devil bringer (I eventually came back and kicked his ass years later).
-My first experiences with the megaman series were X6 and X7, which isn’t bizarre perse but I find it funny looking back at the previous 2 points that the games I try first of any series seems to be the ones that weren’t well received.
On that note the first MGS I got to play was 2, I only watched my older bothers play 1, I think that kind of made 2 feel more close to me with how Raiden was meant to be a lesser soldier than Solid Snake when I played it.
-I actually played the beta version of FFXIV ARR, I saw the trailer thought it was cool then asked SE to pretty please let me play it, I could only do it in my older brother’s PS3 and I gor lucky enough that he would let me use it while I took care of his house for a night, it took forever to download and I only got to play like a few minutes of it, but it was enough to realize that younger me couldn’t so much as grasp the concept of an MMO, so I spend hours waiting to play the first 30 minutes of an MMO.
-I played FF7 emulated on my psp, I beat the first disc, but I didn’t know were the second disc was supposed to be in an emulation, turns out you have to go to the PSP console menu and select disc 2, I didn’t knew that so for years I only beat the first disc of FF7.
-I tried to beat the Misterious Figure boss fight for Kingdom hearts Birth by Sleep using Terra, this one requires a bit of history. So for context, this boss fight in specific is know as one of the most poorly designed in the series, it’s bullshit in many ways that I could list but it would take a post as big as the one I have made so far so I won’t get too much into it, the long and short is that he ignored a lot of rules in the game and could kill you in really unfair ways, he could also do stuff like become invisible and prevent you from using your lock on against him, he had like 3 more tricks that were worse than that, just so you understand how fucked up it could get. This was also the PSP EU release version of the game, so it was one of the arguably most fucked up versions of that boss IIRC, since he was nerfed in future releases and teenage me didn’t understand enough of videogames to beat it but still tried for a solid week until assuming it couldn’t be done. I came back years later and tried again after learning more of the game and knowing it was possible to beat him. Now for the bizarre part in BBS there are 3 characters, Aqua, Terra and Ventus. 2 of them have dodges that are so good that you can become basically untochable by spamming them non-stop, you could literally dodge into an active laser and it wouldn’t touch you as long as you kept spamming it, the third one, Terra, has the worse dodge of them, his dodge had longer range since it was a dash but the lack of Iframes just made it plain worse in every way. I decided to beat this boss with Terra, not because I wanted to do it in a hard way as a way to challenge myself but because I thought “well spamming dodge hurts my fingers so I will just go with Terra”, I don’t undertand how I came tot hat conclusion but I made the fight so hard that even using some unfair moves with tons of Iframes myself it still took me an entire week to beat his ass, I just made the boss way harder for literally no reason other than not wanting to tire my fingers, which lead to me doing this fight for so long my fingers probably got much more tired than they otherwise would have. That said the fight had a banger ass theme, it is also burned into my soul.
-For some reason I really wanted to beat a run on Xcom one at max difficulty with Iron man mode on, a mode in which the game autosaves after every move, and the game has permadeath already so it was absurdly difficult, it took me like 300 runs and something like 300 hours which is how I got almot 400 hours clocked into that game, I also still remember the positions of most enemies in some of the scripted mission, particulary the thin men, fuck the thin men.
-I have one for Arknights but it’s still a work in progress.
That’s most of what comes to mind, kind of fun stuff to look back to.

Note
oh no you will wish he was a wrestler, he wields a giant god damn dragon tooth as a mace, armor carved from stone, nothing phases him, i have a shield that blocks 100% physical damage and he hit me threw it and STILL ONE HIT ME, you need like a tower shield with gr8 stability to be able to take a hit form him, on the plus side, if your not good at dodging you will be by the end of it
*UGLIEST OF SOBBING*Sir my training of a lifetime of playing harvest moon and turn based games havePrepared me for none of this
