We got back to the RV after getting breakfast at a small cafe, and we began looking through some cute Polaroids that we've been taking. I tape the pictures to the wall so we don't lose them.
"We're so cute." I gush, looking at the pictures.
"Yeah we are!" Dakota cheered, putting the Polaroid camera back in his backpack.
"Oh, I was talking about Chels and I." I told him. I wasn't actually, but I like picking on Dak all the time.
"Oh wow." Tanner laughed. "So rude, Lottie."
"You'll get over it." I stuck my tongue out, then laughed at myself.
"Anyways," Dakota glared at me. "I wanna talk about our next location for a minute."
   "Oh boy." Alex sighed.
"Without giving too much away, I think that whatever spirits are haunting this place still have a lot of energy in them," Dakota told the group. "One of the most common experiences people have are shadow figures and unexplainable noises."
"Nothing we haven't experienced before." I smiled confidently.
"This location might be a little different than anything we've ever experienced before." Dakota said. "But before tonight, we're going to make a little pit stop."
He decided to take us to a smaller, and haunted, location to get us ready for whatever happens tonight. I would much rather just go walk around a park or something, but I know that's not interesting enough to be on the show. We're going to meet with the owner so that he can share a few details about the place, but I still have no idea where we're going.
"Welcome to the Lake Shawnee Amusement Park." Dakota said.
We stepped out of the RV and met with the owner, Chris White. We all shook hands and looked around us at the abandoned amusement park.
"Native Americans settled here in the 1400s, and when the first English family settled here the tribe killed two of the children on the property." Chris stated. "The third child was later found burning at the stake."
I looked at the man with wide eyes "That's terrible, oh my god."
He continued by telling us about more deaths that occurred on the property, and all of them were children. These kids were coming here to have a fun day, but they never left.
Tanner and I both seem to be the most affected by this, and I think it may be because since we both have really young nieces and nephews that it hit us a little harder. I could never imagine the pain that these children and their families went through when they passed away here, in what seemed like a fun and safe place for the family.
Once the sky got darker, we walked over to visit the children's gravestones. I walked into the open field and found some flowers to put on the stone, my way of telling these children that people are still remembering them.
We all stood in silence reading the engravings on the stones, and I bent down to sit the flowers on their shared stone. I reached into my pocket and found a little duck that I had and sat in on top, maybe their spirits can play with it if they wanted to.
I stood back up and felt an arm get draped over my shoulder, I looked up and smiled at Tanner with my watery eyes.
After I placed the duck on the stone, the air around us felt calmer. Almost as if the spirits of the children realized that they could trust us and let down their barriers. At least that's what I want to think.
"Ezekiel doesn't have a gravestone," I spoke in realization. "I wonder why?"
"He's the one who people see all the time," Chelsea said. "He doesn't want to be forgotten."
My heart aches at the thought of this child feeling forgotten, no child should ever have that feeling. I walked back into the field and picked a few more flowers and sat them in the grass next to the other childrens' gravestone. I searched through my backpack to look for another duck, and after finally finding it I sat it next to the flowers.
"Ezekiel," I spoke up a little louder. "If you're here with us, just know that we are never going to forget about you. That duck is for you, and I really hope you like it."
A sudden gust of wind blew my hair into my face, and the realization hit me that it could have been Ezekiel acknowledging what I said. I felt a small smile form on my lips before we all walked to a nearby picnic table to do our packet read.
"Are you guys ready to find out where we're going?" Dakota asked before sitting the packet on the table.
   "Let's do it" I said.
We all took turns reading the packet, while Alex stood at the far end of the table to record us.
"Sweet Springs Sanitarium has a long and deadly past, and each incarnation of the property just continued adding to it's devastation." Tanner read, "The building that housed Sweet Springs had been a grand resort before it was transformed into a hospital for treating Tuberculosis."
Chelsea took the packet to read the next section. "The land it sits on is considered by many Native American tribes to be sacred. On the third floor, a full body apparition of a woman in period clothing has been seen numerous times." Chelsea took a breath and then continued "People have been touched, including the building's maintenance manager who has felt a firm hand on his shoulder while walking the halls of this building."
Chelsea handed me the packet to read next. "There have been a total of five owners in the past twenty years, several dying unexpectedly after purchasing the property." I paused for a second, trying to take in the information. "I would be terrified to be the new owner."
"Me too, I would never buy this place." Alex spoke up for the first time after listening to us read the packet.
____________
After a few hours of driving, we finally made it to Sweet Springs. We got out of the RV after gathering our gear, and I finally got a good look at the property. And of course it's storming outside which makes the night so much worse.
Since the property is so big, we split into two groups. I stuck with Dakota and Chelsea, while Tanner and Alex were grouped together. We all wished each other good luck before making our way into the front doors.
I should have joined the other group, to be honest, because when Dakota and Chelsea get scared they're the biggest chickens about it. Their fear just bounces off one another and gets worse from there.
We were just walking around on the first floor when we heard a loud noise coming from the floor above us. "Woah what was that?" Chelsea asked us.
"That was upstairs!" Dakota exclaimed. "I don't wanna go upstairs now."
But of course, because it's Dakota, that's exactly what we did. We walked up the creaky stairs to check out what made that noise. As soon as we stepped out of the stairwell there was a noise from down the hallway, making all three of us jump.
"There's something down there guys!" I said, hiding behind the two of them. "I really don't wanna go down there."
"Can you shut one of those doors?" Dakota asked, pointing his flashlight to the end of the hallway. Nothing happened at first, but then a loud bang was heard down the hallway. All three of us screamed, scaring each other even more. Then another noise was heard closer to us, and my heart rate picked up even more.
We just kept backing further down the hallway until Dakota led us to the stairs to go up to the third floor. We walked into room 3007 where several people have reported seeing a female apparition walking around and standing in the window.
Nothing really happened in that room, but I did notice that it was slightly colder in there than the rest of the third floor. We went back downstairs to meet up with Tanner and Alex to switch areas of the building. We went down to the basement where Tanner and Alex were, and they went to the second floor where we started out. Alex told us that we were probably going to get lost down there, so I'm already mentally preparing myself for the maze we're walking into.
I already hate basements as it is, I won't even go into my parents basement when I visit. The door to the basement is right next to my childhood bedroom, so I always triple check that it's locked before I go to bed.
"I despise basements," I spoke. "I better not have to sleep down there alone."
"Same here." Chelsea agreed with me.
We walked down the narrow steps to the basement before entering what used to be the slave quarters. I looked around with my flashlight when I saw that someone had put dolls in cages hanging from the ceiling. "Why would anyone do that? What is wrong with people?"
"That's so insensitive." Dakota scoffed before walking further into the basement.
"That's like the complete opposite of what people should be doing," Chelsea added. "Especially with knowing the horrors that went on down here."
I have a bad feeling about being down here, and I don't think it's because I don't like basements. There's something dark surrounding us and I don't like the feeling it's giving me.
We begin walking into one of the rooms when we hear what sounded like a woman's voice, and it sounded full of pain.
"Did you guys hear that?" Dakota asked us.
"Yeah, it sounded like a woman's voice." Chelsea told him "What about you, Char?"
"Yeah I heard it." I whispered. "It sounded so full of pain, I feel so bad right now."
We looked back into the room when Tanners voice was heard through the walkie. "This is Tanner for Dakota."
"Go for Dakota." We waited for Tanner to speak up again.
"You're not gonna believe this dude." He said, sounding kind of scared. "We just heard a woman's voice coming from room 3007."
Chelsea and I looked at each other with wide eyes.
"No way," Dakota spoke. "I think we just heard the exact same voice!"
"How the hell?" Tanner exclaimed "How did we hear the same voice, with two floors in between us?"
We explored the rest of the basement before meeting up with the others, and we all talked about what had happened while we were exploring.
"Sleeping alone tonight is going to be one of the hardest things I've ever done." Chelsea spoke into the camera.
"Yeah," I agreed. "Especially after what we've experienced already, I can't even imagine what'll happen while we're alone."
We decide to take one last walk around the property, checking out the jail cell while we're at it.
"Ew, is that snake skin?" Chelsea asked while looking at the skin that was hanging on the wall.
"That's disgusting," Dakota grimaced "I hate snakes."
I walked over the snake skin and picked it off the wall, walking toward Dakota with it. "Present time!"
"No, NO, get that away from me." He backed away from me, trying not to let me touch him. I cornered him and draped the skin over his camera and laughed at the face he made.
"You're pure evil." Alex laughed, flicking the snakeskin off of Dakota's camera.
"I hope you get the basement now." Dakota glared at me.
"No!! Please don't say that." I poured. "I'm sorry, take it back. Right now!"
Before he could say anything back, a bunch of birds came out of nowhere so I immediately ran out of the little building.
"That's karma!" Tanner laughed at me.
"I guess I deserved that." I frowned, nervously looking back at the building full of birds.
We went back to the front of the main building to pick our locations. We decided not to sleep on the third floor since there was a lot of black mold so it wouldn't be safe to sleep there. The locations that we picked are the basement slave quarters, basement hospital wing, the second floor west wing, the first floor by the big mirror, and the first floor west wing which no one had been to yet.
"We haven't explored the first floor west wing, so whoever gets that is going in with no prior knowledge." Dakota told us.
Tanner wrote the locations on the pieces of paper, then we all drew out of the hat. Tanner got the basement slave quarters, Dakota got the second floor west wing, Chelsea got the first floor west wing, and Alex got the big mirror. And of course I got the basement hospital wing.
"Just my luck!" I groaned after I realized the only option left was in the basement. "The universe is out to get me."
Tanner and I made our way to the basement. We were pretty far apart from each other, but if one of us got loud we would be able to faintly hear each other. I set up my cot in the hallway before Tanner left me alone.
I decided to speak to my camera for a little bit. "I am currently in the Basement Hospital Wing, the one place I didn't want to end up with." I layed back in my cot. "This is not how I wanted to spend my Friday night."
I sat in complete silence for a few minutes, my eyes shut because I don't want to accidentally see anything. I shot up in my cot when I heard a voice coming from behind me, and it sounded so clearly human. I tried not to freak out as I pointed my flashlight in the direction of the voice.
"Lottie?" I screamed when I heard Tanners voice come from my walkie. "Did you just hear that voice?"
"Yeah, I heard it come from behind me." I told him. "How the hell did you hear it too?"
"I don't know but I'm coming to get you," I heard shuffling on his end. "We're gonna do a sweep of the basement, that sounded human."
I could feel my heart beating faster as I waited for him to come get me. He and Alex ran in, and the look on their faces made me realize how serious this situation could be.
The three of us walked around to look for anyone who could have broken in, but we didn't see anyone.
"I really don't think you should be sleeping alone, Lottie." Alex looked at me with concern.
"No, I can do it," I assured him. "I'll be fine. And if anything happens I'll call for Tanner."
They both looked skeptical, but eventually obliged and we all went back to our sleeping arrangements.
Everything was peaceful until I heard Tanner come running down the hallway. "Who is that? Who's in here?"
I sat back up in my cot and turned to see Tanner walking in behind me. "What are you doing?" I asked with a confused look on my face.
"Did you not just hear that?" He asked me
"I didn't hear anything, Tan." I got up from my cot. "What was it?"
"I swear I just heard singing," he looked back into the hallway behind him. "I ran straight to you because I thought someone was down here."
"Well that's unsettling." I could feel a pit forming at the bottom of my stomach. "Something is definitely messing with you because it's been so quiet over here."
Alex, Dakota, and Chelsea ran down into the basement with us.
"Dude, are you guys okay?" Chelsea asked with concern in her eyes.
"Something is messing with me, Lottie didn't hear any of what I just heard and it was so loud." Tanner spoke really fast. "This thing was mocking me, and I'm pissed."
Everyone began walking out of my area "Wait what is going on?"
"We're going back to my area, we need to figure this out." Tanner, Alex, and Chelsea walked back to the slave quarters.
Dakota stuck back with me and asked "So you didn't hear anything? Only Tanner was hearing this stuff?"
"I heard the first set of voices, it was right between both of us in that hallway. I didn't hear anything aft-." I was interrupted when I heard the loudest, most human scream I've ever heard at a location.
"Holy shit." I grabbed Dakota and ran away from my area, growing increasingly scared.
"Whatever this is, it's demonic and doesn't want us down here." He said out of breath. "It wants us to get the hell out of here."
"We need to regroup, like now." Alex said, leading us toward the stairs.
"There has been slavery here, this is a horrible place." Tanner told us. "And what we just heard portrays all of the horrendous things that have happened in this place, especially in that basement."
As we were walking back outside, I gripped Chelsea's hand as she prayed under her breath. This night has affected both of us in ways that we never imagined. Before we got to the first floor we heard another bang behind us, something was still following us. I felt Chelsea's grip tighten, nearly cutting the circulation off.
"We need to calm down, I'll get my laptop and we can review the footage we've gotten." Dakota tried to calm the group, especially Chelsea and I.
We all sat around Dakota's laptop, except for Tanner who was pacing around the porch of the building. He's obviously been affected the most out of all of us, and I'm starting to get worried about him.
"Tan?" I looked over at my friend. "Are you okay? Come sit down."
"No, I'm fine." He said as he continued pacing next to us.
"It's messing with you dude," Alex said to him.
"Yeah, don't let it get to you," Chelsea told him. "That's exactly what it wants."
Tanner finally sat down next to Dakota and we all reviewed the footage together. We heard the singing that Tanner heard so clearly, and it freaked Chelsea out so bad that she had to get up from her seat to process it.
"Oh hell no," She yelled. "That is crazy."
"That's the most evidence we have ever caught in one night, holy shit." I spoke, still trying to listen to the footage that we got.
"Let's get out of this place." Alex said, getting up from his seat and gathering his things.
We all got our stuff together and headed back to the RV, and I hope that I never have to come back to this place.
____________
This episode was so terrifying! The scream, the singing, the talking, AND THE CHANTING THEY GOT AT THE END. No thank u, never again pls.
Also the way Tanner reacted made me realize just how protective he is over his friends, but he did scare me a little when he tried fighting that ghost lol
Just a reminder that this is cross posted on my wattpad and I’m adding a few bonus social media chapters over there if anyone is interested!

We are definitely somewhere in the south right now. All I see when I look out the RV windows are corn fields and Dollar Generals in the most random places. Alex, Tanner, Chelsea and I are in the RV while Dakota is talking to the camera outside.
"There is no way you can read his lips," Chelsea laughed as she watched me watch Dak from the window. "Especially from this far away."
"Shh be quiet." I shushed her without taking my eyes off of Dakota.
"What does noise have to do with you reading his lips?" Tanner asked, laughing with Chelsea and Alex.
I rolled my eyes and groaned, dramatically falling back into the seat I was in. "I swear he said something about birds. If we end up at some abandoned bird sanctuary I'll beat his ass!"
"An abandoned bird sanctuary? I don't even think those are a thing." Alex said.
"Oh they're a thing, they have to be." I retorted. "And I'm almost positive we're going to one."
We kept talking about our theories of where we're heading until the RV door opens and we all shut up real fast.
Dakota looks around at us suspiciously before asking, "What were you guys talking about?"
The fear was eating away at me so I had to ask him the only question in my mind right now, "Are we going to a haunted bird sanctuary?"
Dakota looked perplexed for a split second, before shock took over his face. "How'd you know?"
Everyone else bursted into laughter while my face goes pale and I genuinely feel sick. "You're lying."
"Yeah I am, we aren't going to a haunted bird sanctuary." He laughed before sitting across from me. "I would never do that to you."
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding, and smiled "Good, I thought I was gonna have to book a flight back home."
"Well..." He looked around at the group, "after this packet read you all might feel like booking a flight home."
"Oh, great." I sighed. "Love that for us."
"While we're all here, I just wanna talk about a few of our goals for this trip." Dakota said
"I just want to overcome my fear, I feel like that's what I've come to accomplish." Chelsea said.
Dakota nodded before saying his goal, "I want to learn to not be so jumpy and freaked out about this kind of stuff, I'm really bad at those things."
"That's an understatement." I mumbled under my breath, earning a chuckle from the group.
"My goal is pretty much the same, I always find myself getting scared of being afraid." Tanner stated.
"Honestly, my only goal originally was to have fun." I laughed. "But after that first location I really want to get a better understanding of the paranormal, because I've realized I know almost nothing about it."
"Yeah I totally agree with all of you," Alex spoke up. "But to understand the paranormal we need to overcome our fear first."
____________
"I found a place that overlooks seven states at once, so that's where we're going now." Dakota said to us.
"I think that'll be nice, especially since we're going to so many dark places this trip." I spoke, growing more excited by the second.
We walked to the place that Dakota was talking about, and the nature around us was breathtaking. I listened to the cicadas buzzing around us, and felt the cool air on my face.
We continued walking until we saw a bridge that looked like it could snap at any second.
"Will that even hold us up?" Chelsea questioned.
"Charlottes the smallest, she should go first." Alex said, pointed his camera right at me.
"Just because you guys are giants doesn't mean I should go first!" I exclaimed, before smirking "But I'll take the risk for you guys, watch me."
This was probably by far the worst idea, but I took off into a sprint and ran across the bridge as fast as I could. "That's the trick, don't let the bridge see you."
"You're so stupid, Char." Tanner laughed at me, before letting everyone else on before him. When they got to the middle of the bridge I stood on my end and started jumping, Tanner doing the same behind the group.
"No! Dude stop oh my god!" Chelsea gripped the railing tightly. We finally stopped and let everyone off the bridge, and I high-fived Tanner when he got off.
We got to two rocks that sit close together called 'Fat Man's Squeeze' and walked through them. At some points I didn't even think we'd make it. We got to the clearing between the rocks and Dakota pulled me and Chelsea aside.
"I know you both are strong and can handle yourselves, but there's something about this location that you both need to know." Dakota looked between the two of us.
"Okay..." I looked over to Chelsea who shared the same look of confusion.
"The most prominent spirit at this location is an incredibly evil one, and he is known to prey on women." Dakota said, flinching when I jumped up from my seat. "I promise that's not why I picked this location."
"Are you fucking kidding me, Dakota?" I shook my head, "Chelsea is new to this, I've only been on a few paranormal investigations before this trip and you're going to just throw us into this?"
"I'm pissed off, honestly." Chelsea shook her head at her brother. "What were you thinking?"
"I already told Tanner, so he knows the situation-."
I cut Dakota off, not even caring how rude I might seem on camera. "So you guys can be our knights in shining armor? What are you gonna do if this spirit is actively hurting one of us, huh? Punch it? Ask it to stop?”
"We won't let it get to that, Char." Dakota assured me. "We'll keep it under control."
"Follow me to the bridge." I said, still glaring at him.
He looked confused before saying. "What? Why?"
"So I can push you off of it."
I can't help but feel like I'm being a little dramatic, but I'm not about to get attacked by a ghost that thinks I'm inferior to it. Leaving Dakota and Chelsea to finish talking, I walked back over to where Alex and Tanner are.
Tanner, seeing the anger on my face, already knew what the conversation was about. "I'm guessing he told you about the location, right?"
"Yeah." I kept my answer short, because I knew he's known and didn't tell me. I thought I could trust him.
"I tried to talk him out of it, but he's confident it won't be that bad." Tanner said, putting a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "He and Zak already talked about what to do if anything happens."
I stepped back before looking up at Tanner "Zak? The man who's whole career is taunting demons? Asking them to hurt him? That Zak?"
Tanner pursed his lips for a moment, trying to think of a good response. "I'm really sorry, Char, I really am. If you don't want to do this you don't have to, you can stay in the RV."
"Oh no, I'm doing it." I said, "I'm gonna show this bitch who's boss."
____________
I'm not mad at anyone anymore, just a little agitated. It's time for the packet read and I'm nervous to hear more about the entity that Dakota was telling us about.
"Old South Pittsburg Hospital sits on land that has a long history of death, violence and pain as well as illness and suicide." Tanner read the packet.
"The land has also been the site of a major civil war battle, where hundreds of lives were lost to the brutality of war." Chelsea read, and then Dakota told us more about the battle that wasn't in the packet.
We took turns reading more from the packet, until we got to the section about the 'woman hating demon' as I'm going to continue calling it.
"Charlotte, do you want to read it?" Dakota warily asked me.
I nodded and took the packet from his hands. "The scariest area of the property is on the third floor, which is home to an incredibly evil entity that the locals call the creature."
I took a shaky breath before continuing, "this spirit likes to terrorize women, whether that be hitting, pinching, pushing, or whatever else it feels like doing. The last recorded incident was just last week."
I reached over the table and gripped Chelsea's hand, trying to bring both of us comfort. I felt a hand on my back and turned to see Tanner looking at me, as if asking if I was okay.
We finished the packet read and I for one am not ready for tonight.
____________
We just left a woman's house who wanted to tell us about her personal experience from when her daughter was a patient at the hospital.
"I think a good experiment would be to act like a patient in one of the third floor rooms, and just see what happens." Dakota said to the group.
As nervous as I was for tonight, I have to admit that the idea would probably get us some sort of evidence and it's worth the risk. I sure as hell don't wanna be the one up there alone, though.
We were all talking about tonight when a semi drive by honking its horn, and every single one of us jumped out of our seat.
"That had no right being so loud." Alex said.
"We are so gonna be scared for tonight." Chelsea laughed in her seat.
We were getting closer to the location, so we all crowded around the front of the bus to get a better look at the place.
"That is so creepy!" Tanner exclaimed with wide eyes.
We exited the RV and entered the building and it was so eerie in there. Just knowing how much death this building has seen is terrifying.
We walked around the second floor when a loud metallic bang scared all of us. We pointed our flashlights around the hall but didn't see anything.
"Wait, that was you!" Chelsea said, pointing at Dakota.
He looked confused for a second until Chelsea touched the metal railing on the wall and it made the same noise. "Oh good god, I scared myself!"
My heart rate was slowly going back to normal until we went up the stairs to the third floor. I grabbed Chelsea's hand as we walked into the doorway.
"We'll keep an eye on you two, okay?" Dakota assured us.
"Alright." Chelsea said, but I stayed silent since I was still unsure about this.
I'm hoping that I get into contact with the ghost of a little boy on this floor, rather than the creature.
The third floor was more active than the other floors, and there was a darker feeling up there that I caught onto.
We walked around for a while before we split up into two groups. Chelsea was with Tanner and I went with Dakota and Alex. They are going to the third floor first while we're going to the second floor.
"Good luck, Chels." I pulled her into a tight hug.
"You too, babe." She said, waking away with Tanner.
"You still mad at me?" Dakota asked me as we were walking to the second floor.
"Nah we're good," I assured him. "But if anything happens, you're back at the top of my hit list."
"Wait, does that mean I was at the top at one point?" Dakota asked.
"It was when you wouldn't let me ride your scooter when we were ten," I told him. "You were at the top until today."
"So who's at the top now?" Alex asked.
"The creature, duh." I said like it was obvious.
They both laughed and we continued on our trip to the second floor.
Dakota decided to walk down the hall alone for some reason, so we let him. He made it about to the middle when we heard the sound of something being thrown.
"What was that?" I asked with wide eyes.
"I have no clue." Alex said, leading us toward Dakota.
"Was that you guys?" He asked once we got to him.
"No, it sounded like it came from down the hallway." I noted.
We were walking around to find the source of the sound when Dakota spoke up "What is that?"
I walked over to what he was looking at and picked it up, then tossing it back on the ground. "That sounded exactly like the noise we heard!"
"It looks like some type of medical equipment." Alex said, grabbing it to get a closer look.
"Let's check on Tanner and Chelsea?" Alex asked.
I got my walkie out and got onto Tanner's channel. "Hey Tanner? You guys good?"
"We just caught something crazy on the Polaroid!" He said. "In one of the pictures there's a big white mist going across the picture, it wasn't in any of the other ones."
"That's crazy!" I spoke, "Some ghost just tried to impale us with something, so we both have good evidence already!”
"Wait, what?" Tanner gasped.
"Some type of medical equipment got thrown in between us, Dak nearly jumped out of his skin!"
"No I did not." Dakota defended himself.
"Oh whatever." I laughed before we all met up to look at the Polaroids.
Chelsea organized them on the table in front of us and there it was, the white mist.
"I've never seen anything like that on a Polaroid." Dakota looked at the pictures in amazement.
"Neither have I." I say as I pick up the picture with the mist to get a closer look.
"I have an idea for Chels and Char, and neither of you have to agree to it." Dakota says, getting my full attention.
"No." Chelsea and I said at the same time.
"Just hear me out, please." Dakota begged us. "Just hear me out to see how you feel."
"I already have an idea how I'm gonna feel about it," I crossed my arms over my chest, leaning back into the chair I'm sitting in. "But go on."
"Both of you could go up to the third floor and see if anything happens," Dakota paused for a moment. "All three of us will be on the second floor and if anything happens we'll be there as fast as possible."
I looked at Chelsea and she nodded, and if she agrees to do it then so do I.
"Okay, fine." I agreed. "But if anything happens I'm kicking your ass."
____________
Chelsea and I are walking down the hallway on the third floor by ourselves, and it feels like something is watching us.
"So we're on the third floor where an evil entity is known to attack women, and we can barely see anything without our flashlights." I spoke into my camera before turning the camera back toward the hall in front of us. "I can't believe we're doing this, Chels"
"Yeah me either," She said, recording the hallway around us "It's so freaking dark in here."
"This is probably a really bad idea, but I'm going to turn on this digital recorder so that anything that's here with us can communicate through it." I say before sitting the recorder on the ground by my feet.
"People call you 'the creature', and there have been reports of you hurting woman who come into this floor. Why do you only attack women?" We both sat in silence for a couple of minutes to let whatever is with us speak. "Can you make a noise? Make yourself known to us?"
We waited another ten minutes before stopping the recording and venturing further down the hallway. "Yeah there's no way in hell I'm listening to that recording right now."
"Here, let's go sit in that doorway up there." Chelsea led us to the doorway where a single chair sat, her sitting in the chair and me sitting on the floor leaning against the door frame. "We can go quiet for a few minutes and see if anything happens.”
We sit in silence for a few minutes before the silence was interrupted by a bang that sounded like it was right next to my head, and then another bang a little further down the hallway. Both of us screamed, and the guys ran up the stairs to check on us.
"Dude!" Chelsea yelled. "That was so loud!"
I found myself blinking back tears, my stomach feels like it dropped to the floor.
"Are you guys okay?" I heard the guys running toward us but their voices sounded like they were getting further and further away.
I looked up when I felt a hands on my shoulder and saw Tanner. "Lottie, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"I-no no I'm okay, it just scared me." I spoke, choking back tears. "It really scared me, Tan."
He pulled me into his arms after sitting his camera on the ground. "You did really good, Lots. You guys were up there for at least half an hour."
I didn't say anything back, just sniffled a few times before pulling away and wiping my eyes.
"What the hell was that?" Dakota asked
"There was two loud bangs, one near us and the other was by the OR." Chelsea told her brother.
"It was right next to my head." I spoke, just loud enough for Tanner to hear me.
"What?" Tanner looked at me with wide eyes. "Are you serious?"
"Yes, can we please leave?" I asked, not even waiting for an answer from anyone.
I sat on the stairs closer to the second floor, pulling out the digital recorder. "We did a recording session before it happened, we haven't listened to it."
Everyone gathered around me on the stairs and then I pressed play.
We were listening to the audio when we all heard what sounded like a growl after I asked why the creature hurts women, and then we heard a disembodied voice toward the end of the recording.
"Was that a growl?" Alex asked with wide eyes.
"I'm sorry," I got up from where I was sitting. "I need to go outside."
I practically ran down the stairs, and when I got to the first floor I had no idea where I was even going.
"Fuck, where am I?" I asked myself. I shined my light around me, and turned around only to come face to face with Tanner and jumped  "Shit, don't sneak up on me like that."
"Sorry," he apologized. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
"I'm fine, really," I said as he led us outside. "It just scared me, that's all."
"You're a lot braver than I am, that's for sure." He wrapped an arm over my shoulders. "I would've ran out of there right after I heard that noise."
"I highly doubt that," I laughed. "Thanks for coming out here."
"It's what friends are for," he smiled. "You good to go back inside?"
"Yeah, let's go." I picked up my camera and we both went to meet the others again.
We all picked out sleeping spots, I refused to sleep alone so we decided that I'd stick with Tanner for the night. Chelsea got the North hallway, Tanner and I got the south hallway, Dakota got the third floor, and Alex got the first floor. Right before we all separated, a sign fell off the wall and scared all of us. This is about to be a long night.
"Let's go bud," I dragged Tanner to our sleeping arrangement, and turned around to point at Dakota. "Don't let the demon bugs bite!"
I did a little dance as we walked away, happy that I wasn't the one who got the third floor.
"We just got to our location at the second floor hallway, and I am not liking this one bit." Tanner said into his camera. "Luckily I have moral support here, she'd probably punch a ghost for any of us."
"I'm a bigger scaredy cat than you are and you know it." I laughed before getting comfortable on my sleeping bag. "We're better together for sure though."
"Heck yeah we are," he gave me a fist bump before pointing the camera back to him. "Chelsea is on the same floor as us, so that makes this a little bit easier."
At around 4am everyone besides Alex heard the same noise. I was already half asleep, so I actually thought it was just in my head but when Tanner sat up just as quickly as I did I knew it wasn't.
We all spoke on the walkies for a few minutes before going back to our own channels. I slept for the rest of the night, and sunrise came before I knew it. I didn't wake up until Dakota's voice came through the walkie to tell us it was time to start packing up.
We all gathered our things to head to the RV, and I went ahead and went to a secluded area to talk to the camera for a few minutes.
"Last night was a night I'll never forget. I love Dakota to death but sometimes his ideas piss me off, but now I feel like I can accomplish anything. Being on this trip with my friends is an experience I never imagined having, but I know that together we'll get through it and conquer our fears."
We all finished up our recordings and everyone except for me fell straight to sleep. I looked around at my friends, well I'd consider them my family at this point, and realized just how grateful I am to have them in my life.

Professional Scaredy-Cats
Chapter 1: Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary

(This is a story with an OC, as those are the fanfictions I prefer writing. You can imagine Charlotte looking like anyone, but I imagine her as Emily Rudd)

Tumblr media
Charlotte
"C'mon Lottie, we gotta get going." Chelsea shook me awake, after somehow getting into my locked apartment.
"First of all, how did you get in here," I glared at my friend. "Second of all, why are we leaving so damn early?"
"You literally gave me a key and we've got a busy day ahead of us." She laughed and grabbed my hand and dragged me out of bed. I let my body go limp, as I'm still half asleep and all I want is to lay in bed for five more minutes. "Dude get up!"
"Fine, you ruined my dream anyways." I playfully rolled my eyes and pulled myself off the floor where she gracefully dropped me. "Where's everyone else?"
"They're meeting us in Tennessee, after that I have no clue what we're doing." She stated, grabbing my already packed suitcase. "So get ready and meet me in the car, Dakota will kill us if we're late"
I hurried and got ready for this long drive ahead of us, and grabbed my toiletries bag and made my way to the car.
The trip consisted of us singing at the top of our lungs, very terribly might I add, and it ended up flying by.
____________
We made it to the hotel at around 7pm, and we were both exhausted so we went straight to bed when sat our luggage down. Dakota said he was going to wake us up in the morning to start our trip, so we were already awake when he started banging on our door at 8am.
I open the door only to have his camera right in my face, I should've known. I'm still half awake so I simply leave the door open and walk back to sit on my bed with my coffee in hand.
"Is that any way to greet your best friend in the entire world?" Dakota said enthusiastically. I'm not sure where he got all of this energy, but I really wish he would share it with me.
"Best friends don't wake each other up at the ass crack of dawn." Dakota, and Alex who came in behind him, laughed at my comment.
"We gotta go get Tanner and then we get to see the RV!" Dakota jumped up and down, he really hasn't changed one but since I last saw him.
I throw my trash away and walk over to Dakota, pulling him into a hug. As you can see I'm not really a morning person, but Starbucks usually helps. I'm really gonna have trouble staying up at the locations for the next few months.
Dakota squeezes me so hard that I can barely breathe, "Ah, how I've missed you."
"Can't really breathe bud." At this he finally let me go, and laughed out an apology.
"Lottie!" Alex exclaimed from behind us. I turn to see him with a big smile on his face, and immediately throw myself into his arms.
"Al!" I said, I haven't seen him in a long time, a lot longer than everyone else. "Missed you kid."
"I'm two years older than you!" Alex laughed.
"Then don't act like a child." I smile, and jokingly pinch his cheeks. "Alright let's go get Tanner! I'm so ready to get on the road.”
We all go to Tanners hotel room, and it seems like he was waiting behind the door for us because he opened the door and already had his camera rolling.
"Lottie! I thought you were meeting up with us later?" Tanner said, pulling me into a hug.
"I wanted to surprise you!" I wrapped my arms around him, suddenly feeling very small.
"Well I'm glad you made it," he pulled back and smiled at me. "Let's get going!"
____________
We got to the RV and me and Tanner both darted to the top bunk in the pull out section. We both looked at each other with mischievous smiles, but sadly I'm too short and couldn't jump up there like he could.
"You snooze, ya lose." He laughed, flopping back onto the bed.
"Evil, just evil." I glared at him, but immediately burst out in laughter.
We all got settled in, and sat together in the big bed at the back of the bus.
"So Kota," I started, trying to use my puppy dog eyes. "You wanna tell us where we're going?"
"Oh, Kota you're in trouble," Alex laughed. "She's using her puppy eyes!"
Dakota tried to avoid eye contact with me, knowing he would give in, and finally groaned in frustration. "Fine! I'll give you a hint," he smirked. "There are over ten thousands reported deaths at the place we're going."
I looked at Alex's camera like Jim from the office, hearing him snicker from behind it.
"Turn this thing around!" Chelsea explained
    "No way!" Tanner said shocked.
"Yes way!" Dakota just kept smiling like a maniac at all of us, knowing exactly what he's getting us into.
I just kept staring into the camera, hoping someone watching would get a good laugh out of it.
____________
The RV is parked so we can open the packet, and I'm growing increasingly more nervous as the seconds go by.
"Packet read number one." Dakota says, handing me the packet. "Char, would you do the honors?"
"I guess someone has to." I take the packet from his hands, and open it up.
I clear my throat and start reading. "Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, is known as the Alcatraz of the south and has a tortured and horrifying history. During its 113 years in operation, it housed the worst offenders imaginable from murderers and other people convicted of the most horrific violent crimes."
We all take turns reading the packet, and it just keeps getting scarier and scarier.
____________
"I can't get what those people said in the restaurant out of my head." I groaned, leaning my head on the window. One person told us to watch our backs, and the waitress told us that if we didn't believe in ghosts going in, we would leave believing every bit of it.
I've always been a believer, especially when I began hanging out with the group in 5th grade. When I was little I would always talk to this little girl in my backyard, and I actually saw her. But no one else did. When I got older I asked my mom where she moved to, because once I turned 10 I never saw her again. She told me that I never had a friend named Annie. I've had my fair share of mild ghost encounters, luckily I've never been touched like a lot of people I know. Sometimes I believe that that little girl from when I was a kid is still watching over me, protecting me from any evil spirits.
“Yeah, their words are really sticking with me." Tanner said while looking out the window from across from me. "Makes me wonder what Dakota is getting us into."
"I just know we're the perfect group of people to go in there together," Chelsea perked up "We'll all have each others backs."
"Hey guys, we're almost there." Dakota said, "Go up front to get the best view."
We all crowded in set beside the bus driver, I felt kind of bad for the guy. I looked ahead with the widest eyes possible "No. Way..." The building was huge, and I have no idea how we're going to explore it all in one night.
"This is huge!" Chelsea spoke up, shocked.
"That's what she said." I said, laughing at my own joke. I've been watching The Office way too often. Chelsea laughed and playfully punched my shoulder.
We all watched as the building grew closer, becoming more intimidated by the size of the place. I could feel the bad energy as soon as we stepped out of the RV. "Anyone else have a bad feeling about this?" I said as I linked arms with Chelsea after we each grabbed a bag of equipment.
"One-hundred percent." Dakota said, seeming a little worried.
"Dak! You're the one who picked this place!" Alex exclaimed, stopping in his tracks and looking at Dakota with wide eyes. "You are not supposed to be the one who's nervous!"
"Well sorry, but I am." Dakota laughed "It is a little spooky out here."
We set up our gear room on the first floor, making sure each of us had our walkies and cameras in hand before we ventured out. As soon as we stepped into the biggest building, I tripped and fell straight on my face "Ah shit!"
Dakota tried to hold in his laughter, but failed miserably as he reached down to help me up off the ground. I stood up and brushed the dirt and leaves off of my shirt and glared at him. "Very not funny."
"It was kinda funny." Chelsea laughed, "we've been here for a total of five minutes and you already injured yourself!"
"And now millions of people are gonna watch it on TV!" Alex exclaimed
"Well that's great, I hope they enjoy it." I look down at my knee and see my jeans are now torn, these were my favorite jeans too.
"Alright, alright!" Tanner laughed, "Lets stop picking on Char and get on with our investigation. Watch your step, guys."
"A little late for that." I laughed, but continued to walk with the group further into the building.
We all pointed our flashlights around the room we were in, seeing how run down the place really was. I cant even imagine the horrors that these walls have seen, if walls could talk they would be terrified.
"What was that?" Dakota said, panning his camera toward the ceiling.
I pointed my flashlight to where he was looking, but didn't see anything "I think you're just scaring yourself at this point."
"Yeah I'm probably just hearing things."
We walked a little further down the hallway and started looking at the shower areas when I heard Chelsea gasp from beside me.
"What?" We all seemed to say at the same time. We all pointed our cameras and lights to where Chelsea was looking when a bird flew out from behind the railing.
"Holy shit!" I dropped to the ground without thinking, as I am terrified of birds.
Tanner, already knowing my fear of birds, stepped in front of me so the bird wouldn't get near me. "You good?"
"Yeah, I'm alright." I tried to control my breathing, seeing as I didn't want to have a panic attack in the dark and end up getting hurt. He ushered me away from the bird, and went to figure out how to get it out of here.
I stayed on the floor until Tanner told me the bird was gone, still having some trouble breathing but I eventually calmed myself down. We all walked further down the hallway and up to the third floor, me sticking close to Tanner in case another bird decides to come out of hiding.
"Oh this is the auditorium," Dakota announced to the group. "It's where the darkest spirits are said to haunt."
"Nice." I smile and walk up to the door to open it. I frown as the door doesn't budge and Tanner tries to open it after me. After a few minutes of struggling, we decide to go looking for another entrance.
We made it around the corner, me in the very back of the group, when we heard a loud bang come from the auditorium door.
“What the fuck!” I screamed and immediately ran to the front of the group, far away from the door.
“Dude, that was the auditorium door!” Dakota said, running back toward the sound.
“I honestly think I just pissed my pants a little.” I said as I shine by flashlight on my jeans to double check “nope, we’re good”
I feel Chelsea put her hand on my shoulder to guide me back to the door, knowing I’m too much of a scaredy-cat to walk back without someone making me.
We all stood around by the door, explaining to the camera what had happened when it happened again. It happened AGAIN. ‘This is the day I die’ I thought to myself.
Once we all collected ourselves we walked up a stairwell we haven’t explored yet, when all of a sudden I got extremely dizzy to the point that I had to use my hand to catch myself from falling up the stairs. I look over to Dakota, who’s walking next to me, and see that he’s feeling the same way.
“Are you two okay?” I heard Tanner ask, but a sudden pain on the back of my leg prevented me from even responding to him.
“Yeah, just a little dizzy.” Dakota looked over at me. “Lottie, are you good?” He asked when he noticed that I hadn’t moved since we both nearly stumbled up the stairs.
“I-no not at all.” I barely spoke out. I can feel my lower leg beginning to cramp, so I lower myself to sit on the steps. “I think that bird earlier is out to get me.”
“Let me look at it,” Chelsea came up to me and rolled up my pant leg, she let out a gasp. “There’s a handprint on the back of your leg.”
I look down at my leg and widen my eyes. Low and behold, there’s a handprint that almost looks like someone wrapped their hand around my calf and squeezed as hard as they could.
“There’s already a bruise forming.” Alex stated, poking at my leg.
I slapped his hand away, “Dude don’t touch it, that’s evidence.”
“What are they gonna do, a fingerprint test on a ghost?” Tanner laughed at my comment.
“Shut up.” I grumbled before I fixed my jeans and pulled myself up from the steps. “Let’s go find this auditorium.”
“Are you sure you’re okay? That looked pretty bad.” Chelsea put her hand on my arm.
“Yeah I’m good, I promise.” I wrapped my arm around her and we all walked up the stairs.
We made it up to the hospital ward, and Dakota had to sit down because he was still feeling a little bit dizzy.
“You sure you don’t want me to stay with you?” I asked him for probably the 5th time.
“I’m positive, go explore.” He shooed me away from him, and back to the group.
I reluctantly left him alone and joined Chelsea in one of the rooms of the hospital.
“It’s freezing in here.” Chelsea said as she shined her flashlight around the room.
“Yeah, so freaking cold.” Alex said from behind us.
“Shit I didn’t even know you were in here.” I jumped, but quickly gained my composure.
“Ha sorry about about.” He apologized and we all kept walking the halls of the hospital ward.
We got into a big open space and suddenly the whole atmosphere seemed to change. “It feels so weird in here.”
“Where are you guys?” I heard Dakota ask from the hallway.
“We were just exploring the hospital, not sure where we are now.” Chelsea said back to him.
“Oh this is the auditorium,” Dakota walked in from the hallway we were just in. “This is where the sound came from earlier.”
“Do you guys wanna go quiet? We haven’t done that yet.” Chelsea asked the group.
“Sounds good.” Alex answered.
We all found a spot to sit, spreading ourselves out a little bit. I sat a little bit away from Chelsea who was sitting on some stairs.
We heard footsteps, and then Tanner dropped his flashlight scaring all of us.
“My throats getting a little scratchy.” Tanner said, trying to clear his throat.
“Are you okay bud? Do you need your inhaler?” I asked, already getting up to help him.
“Yes, please. Like really fast.” He coughed out, barely being able to breathe. I ran to him, already getting his inhaler from my backpack since I grabbed it from the RV after he forgot it.
I handed it to him and he used it to help him breathe easier. “Thanks, Char.”
“No problem, here,” I reached my hand out to help him up. “We need to go outside for a few minutes, get you some fresh air.”
We all head back to the gear room, escaping the bad feeling of the auditorium. We stayed there for a few minutes before making our way to explore the rest of the location.
____________
sleeping arrangements
“So we decided that the five scariest locations are the hospital, auditorium, the hole, the James Earl Ray cell, and the staircase where Charlotte got touched by something.” Dakota said to Alex’s camera.
We all drew our locations shortly after. I got the auditorium, Dakota got the hospital, Alex got the staircase, Tanner got the hole, and Chelsea got the James Earl Ray cell. I feel especially bad for Alex and Chelsea, Alex is in the only place anyone got physically touched and Chelsea got the place where a spirit seemed to want a kiss from her.
“May the odds be ever in your favor.” I said in a terrible British accent. “Seriously though, good luck guys.”
Dakota walked me to my sleeping arrangement since he was the closest to me, and we said our last farewells. “Walkie me if you need anything, I mean it.” He said before walking back out into the hospital ward.
“Right back at ya.” I waved at him one last time before I leaned back against the wall in silence.
For the next few minutes I just sat without talking, and figured I needed to actually talk since I’m being filmed right now.
“If anyone is here with me, can you make a noise?”
Too scared to look anywhere else, I just looked straight into the camera. I didn’t hear anything for a while until I heard what sounded like footsteps and a really high pitched noise. I immediately pointed my flashlight in the direction of the noises, but I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.
“Hey Charlotte.” I jumped out of my skin after hearing Dakotas voice coming through my walkie.
“Holy shit you scared me,” I breathed out, still looking at where the noises came from “Was that you that made that noise?”
“Dude I heard that too,” Dakota replied “I thought it was you.”
“Wasn’t me.” I replied, growing increasingly uncomfortable.
“Alright well, I don’t know what that was,” he said. “I’ll leave you alone now.”
I didn’t experience anything for the rest of the night, but it was a completely different story for everyone else.
When Dakota came to get me at sunrise, I was fast asleep. He helped me grab all my things before we walked to get everyone else.
“I’ll never understand how you sleep through everything.” Dakota laughed at me
“Honestly me either,” I laughed “My solo videos are just gonna be me snoring for the camera.”
We made it to the RV with everyone, and we all talked about what happened while we’re alone.
I just know the rest of this road-trip is gonna be hell.
___________
This story is gonna have extremely slow updates as I’m a little busy with school and work!! Also keep in mind that this may not turn into a story where the OC begins dating one of them, I’m not sure yet but as of right now I have no intentions of doing that. I also gave Alex a sleeping arrangement even though they didn’t do it in the show, just because I don’t want him to feel left out lol.
*I have no idea if the formatting is good or not, I’ve never posted fanfiction on tumblr so I’m sorry if it looks really bad!
