Auston Matthews - Breakable Baby
Tumblr media
Team: Toronto Maple Leafs
Requested: Yes: Hi!! Can I request an Auston Matthews one where someone they’re friends with has a baby and they visit them in the hospital and both the reader and Auston get kinda freaked out abt holding the kid??
Edited: Yes
Word count: 817
Summary: You and Auston visit your friends who just had a baby and freak out
~
You would think me being the mom friend in my group that I’d be more comfortable around children.
Nope.
I always swear without thinking about it, I’ve accidentally hit kids at least five times now and Tyler Bozak won’t let me hold Kanon anymore because of the infamous pool incident.
So when our mutual friends invited us to visit them at the hospital to see their new baby girl, we were both hesitant about it.
Me because of my bad experience with children and Auston because he wanted to play Call of Duty with his teammates all day.
But in the end I decided that we had to visit them to show our support.
“Are you ready to go, babe?” I question.
“Can’t we just stay home and chill?” Auston prods into my uncertainty of visiting the growing family.
“We’re doing this to support our friends.” I make sure my tone sounds confident, but really I’m trying my hardest to not agree with my boyfriend’s suggestion.
He groans but heaves himself off of the couch, making comments to me as we drive to the hospital.
My fingers fumble anxiously with the bouquet of daisies as we make our way into the hospital, up the elevator, and towards Rachelle’s hospital room.
“Hi,” I say softly as we enter the room with the number on the door that Bryan texted us.
Auston just gives a simple wave as Rachelle smiles brightly at us.
Bryan gives us a soft grin before looking back at his baby girl lovingly.
My heart swells at the sight of the small family.
“You guys look so complete,” I comment, setting down the vase on the counter. “All you need is the cats and you’d have the whole family.”
My friend lets out a laugh, being careful not to jostle the baby in her arms.
Auston’s eyes widen as he sees that she’s breastfeeding the new baby, turning away to look out the window quickly.
“I’m so so sorry,” Auston grumbles, groaning in embarrassment at seeing his friend’s wife’s boob.
“She’s feeding her kid, not flashing you,” I smack his arm gently and he leans down to plant a kiss on my temple.
“Do you want to hold her, Y/N?” Rachelle questions.
“No I’m good, thanks though.”
“Go on, hold the baby,” my boyfriend nudges me, making me glare at him.
“What, are you scared to hold the baby Y/N?” Bryan joins in on the teasing.
“Honestly? Yes.”
Auston rolls his eyes before pushing me forward to sit down on the bed beside Rachelle.
“What if I break her?” I ask softly as she carefully sets the five hour old baby into my arms.
“You’re doing great,” she reassures me.
I stare down in awe at the baby, nervousness fading out of me quickly as I relax.
I can’t help but stare at her little button nose, wanting to touch it but knowing I can’t while she’s still in my arms.
Her little lips move in a wave as she makes a noise, causing me to coo.
Her eyelids flicker open, showing me deep chocolate eyes that are identical to her mother’s.
“She has your eyes.”
Rachelle nods, sharing a proud look with Bryan.
“You two made this little angel?” I ask, watching as her eyes flicker lazily around the room.
“I can’t believe it either.”
“Good thing she inherited most of Rachelle’s genes, aye?” Auston teases, nudging his friend.
“Do you want to hold her, Aus?” Bryan raises his eyebrows challengingly.
“No thanks.”
“Come on, you pressured me into it, now it’s your turn,” I add.
Auston stares at me a long time, but I don’t remove my gaze.
He sighs before settling onto the bed next to me.
I cheer quietly before setting the baby gently into his large arms.
“Support her neck, babe,” I tell him, helping to adjust his arms so she’s fully supported.
“You’re so much better at this than I am,” he mutters.
My heart skips at his words but I brush them off, watching his adoring eyes stare at the newborn.
“You guys did good,” he compliments.
We spend another hour with the family before leaving, wanting to give them some bonding time with their new addition.
“That was so terrifying,” I laugh hysterically as we get into the car.
Auston starts to join in my laughter. “You looked like you were about to piss yourself!”
“I was!”
He laughs even harder.
“She’s such a cutie but babies are so tiny and breakable,” I add, “Thank God we don’t have to deal with that.”
Auston moves to shift the car into reverse, hand resting on the gearshift. “One day.”
I rest my hand over his gently, turning my head to stare into his deep brown eyes. “One day?”
“One day,” he confirms, giving me a soft smile.
One day we’ll have a tiny, breakable baby of our own.
