Jonah margarita strikes me as the kind who's very gay and strikes up a weird obsessive relationship with every little man he meets but would also have a hatefuck with Daisy just for the hell of it. Do you see my vision.

Daisy wasn't going to say it outright, but she thought that sounded sort of boring. Maybe that was just because it wasn't the type of life she had ever lived before. She had met some of their kind who constantly moved, going to a new place every couple of decades, sometimes just to a new city, other times to an entirely different continent. She could sort of understand that, in a way. It would be nice to get out and see the world, go to a place where no one knew you. But that didn't exactly help with the life Daisy wanted for herself. Fame, fortune. To be a star. You couldn't do that without connections.
And no, despite what many thought, Hollywood was not overrun with vampires. There were a handful, just like there were at least a handful almost anywhere else you went. But Daisy's connections went deeper than that. It was as simple as 'Dahlia Douglas' writing an e-mail to her old agent in the late 2000s, talking about how wonderful her grand-niece was at acting and how she was trying to make it in the business and could she maybe get her an audition for that Gone with the Wind remake?
"We've got connections." She said simply. "A few other vampires, mundus in the know. Compulsion goes a long way, too. But honestly? People over there believe whatever they want to believe. It takes less work than you'd think." She paused, continuing, "And I guess we've gotten lucky along the way, too." Because all it took was one person, didn't it? One person to not buy your story and do a little digging. "But I've done that before, the family thing." She added, beginning to smile. "Gotta do whatever works, right?"

Daisy liked it when she could speak honestly. There was no one around; no one to overhear them. Of course she wasn't about to come out and say things exactly as they were, but they had reached an understanding. And when he spoke, he sounded sincere. She was glad of that - she didn't see any reason for either of them to be lying.
Though, the truth did sound a little sad. Daisy had never really had that sense of permanence. She and Minnie had to move often, leave town for long enough that those who had known them once before had moved on, and begin to make a name for themselves in a new way, literally - new names, new backstories. She had never really stuck around anywhere for too long, not in her hundred years of living. But she could still imagine that it must be pretty awful, to have settled somewhere only to have it change around you until it became unrecognisable.
She looked at the horse, and then away at the skyline, and shook her head. "Sort of, I suppose, but... my wife and I have never really stayed in one place for too long. Well -- we stay for a while, leave for a while, then go back." She smiled sardonically, looking back at him. "We can't keep away from Hollywood. I mean, it does all change pretty quickly over there. But that benefits us, really."

The sun was just setting, the twilight dark enough that her migraine had vanished almost completely. There was still a little niggling pain, just at the back of her eyes, but she knew that would go soon. She kept her back to the setting sun, leaning against the fence that enclosed the paddock next to the stables. She had only stopped to have a look - wandering around town, seeing how things had changed, still had a degree of novelty to it - but one of the mares had caught her attention and so she had stopped and lingered, trying to call it over.
It reminded her of the horse she'd bought, back in the late 60s. Sassy had been a palomino thoroughbred, a stunt horse from the set of some Western or another, and she'd been absolutely vicious. Amazing to ride, but she'd taken a chunk out of the Daisy's co-star just for standing too close. Daisy, of course, was able to withstand the biting, and apparently it had earned her some respect from the mare, because after one good chomp, she'd given up all together. Daisy had taken her home at the end of the shoot, paid for her to be kept, took her on a hack when she had the chance.
She clicked at the mare she was stood in front of now, holding a hand out to her. The mare's ears flickered, but she didn't move forward. When Daisy saw movement at the paddock gate she glanced over, and called out, "Hey - what's this one called?"

It was acknowledgement enough. Daisy smiled, small and knowing. She knew, of course, you had to be careful amongst others of her kind. Some believed in banding together, a shared camaraderie. Others... well, Daisy had experienced her fair share of sabotage and back-stabbing from years in Hollywood, and she knew that however ruthless a human thought they were, they were nothing compared to the ruthlessness of another vampire.
Still, he seemed... fine. She wasn't about to assume the best in anyone, but given that he had been dedicating who knew how many centuries to looking after horses, of all things, she could only imagine that battling it out with others of their kind wasn't really his bag. She leaned against the fence on crossed arms, and asked, "So what brought you all the way out here, then? I can hear that accent. Unless you develop that naturally, as a ranch hand." She teased.

Another vampire. Daisy's eyes tracked his movements as he came closer, but she wasn't worried. She was not so wary of others of their kind; she met enough of them, in Hollywood. It was often pretty easy to tell who wasn't to be trusted, who to avoid. She was curious as to why he was working at a stables - maybe it was a century of wealth talking, but Daisy didn't see the point in manual labour when there were so many other ways an immortal could live comfortably - but she didn't think he was a threat.
She leaned against the fence still, stretching one hand out towards the mare. Starlight huffed, snorting, making Daisy grin. Looking back towards the stablehand, she let her hand drop, raising her shoulders in a lazy shrug. "I don't know. It's been a long time since I did any proper riding."
She had done a little for some more recent projects, her various literary adaptations and period dramas, but it wasn't like it was back in the day. Half the time, nowadays, they weren't even on horses. Still, maybe it would fun. There was lots of wide open spaces here, probably enough room for a proper gallop. "I used to have a horse just like her. She was a little fiesty, too. Bit just about anyone who looked at her twice."

Daisy was not one to judge how the rest of her kind spent their time. It was up to them, after all, what they did with the unending centuries, stretching on into oblivion. Personally, Daisy enjoyed to live a life of luxury; grand houses, a butler to do the dirty work, adoring fans. But then again, Daisy had always wanted that, even before she had become a creature of nightmares. Maybe if she had wanted a simple life, she’d be content with life as a stable hand.
But maybe she could get back into riding. She was seriously considering it — if she could find a horse that fit her, why not? They didn’t have quite enough land at home, not with the menagerie she and Minnie already had, but if there was room at the stables here…
That would make things sort of permanent, though. Or at least more permanent than this arrangement was meant to be at the moment. Daisy cast the thought aside - she could consider it later. She raised her eyebrows at him instead, head tilting a little, intrigued by the title. “A horse whisperer.” She said appreciatively. She looked at the way he was with Starlight, and she hummed. “I suppose some people just have a knack with animals. Especially if they have the time to dedicate to them.”
