Info page on many of the characters appearing in the 2010 television series Daimajin Kanon.
It is loosely based on the original Daimajin trilogy from Daiei Film. Daimajin is referred to and addressed as "Bujin" in the series. He does not act like the fierce, unstoppable force that he is in the films, and speaks with a very formal, bombastic voice that (to me at least) doesn't fit the character.
Basically the story is that Bujin is the only force that can stop an onslaught of demons attacking the country. Kanon Misaki, a young woman who is the only one who can summon Bujin, is targeted by the demons. A number of guardian spirits, which are really yokai, band together to protect Kanon and battle the demons.
A really fun part of this series is that most of the yokai - I mean guardian spirits - transform into Super Sentai-like warriors when it's time to fight.
Plus, and this may be the strangest sentence I've ever written, the series features the sexiest goldfish I have ever seen.
Working on a Daimajin Kanon OC based on one of my plushies and also Julian of Norwich, because of course I would do that.
See, the characters in Daimajin Kanon are Onbake, spirits born from gratitude to humans. There's one who used to be a dog that was treated really well, one that was a helmet that got cleaned and polished every day, stuff like that.
But in the book Among the Dolls, one of the dolls gives this whole speech about how it's ok to drag them through puddles, cut their hair, tear their clothes, because that's how kids love their dolls.
So Julian is an Onbake of a plush fox. She's missing an eye, has one arm that is limp, patches of missing hair, and scars. She was loved for an entire lifetime. Not kept on a shelf, not cleaned, but held in someone's arms and rubbed on their face and carried to the hospital and slept beside every night.
She's not an Onbake because she was cared for especially well, she's an Onbake because she was needed and loved.
Currently watching: Alongside the currently airing toku, I'm seeing KR Kiva, Daimajin Kanon via weekly streams, and I juuust started watching KR Amazon on my own!
Last movie: Dungeons and dragons honor among thieves! It was so much fun.
Currently consuming: Alongside KR Amazon I'm actually trying to make progress in TOTK again... I've been so deep in the toku mines that I've neglected to play it the past couple months. XD
Currently craving: Chocolate oranges.
Tagging: @lunar-gl1tch @stickers-on-a-laptop @skajador @pelopides @sastheforestspirit @insecateur @chancellorxofxtrash @snapple-man (Don't feel pressured to do this!) And anyone else who sees this and wants to do this ^^
Are there any good toku with women main characters?
*starts to say cutie honey the live but is dispatched by snipers*
not a lot... I feel like even more than action movies or superhero media in general it's low on female leads. plenty of series with great female characters but as for main female characters...
zeiram and godzilla against mechagodzilla are both great movies with female leads. zeiram is very vibes-based scifi action horror about a bounty hunter fighting a strange alien who has a tiny head that pops out like the chestburster from alien. the other, you can guess what happens in it from the title
the live action sailor moon, pretty guardian sailor moon, is a lot of fun. I feel like it has a noticeably low production value but a lot of heart
I haven't seen daimajin kanon but I've heard good things. it's about a woman (kanon) who finds that her singing can awaken a giant guardian deity (daimajin) and she has to use it to fight evil with the help of some humanoid spirits too
UHH WOW I GOT AN ASK OUTTA NOWHEREEEE HIIIIIIIIIIII THANK YOUUUU
anyways, off the top of my mind and in no particular order,
ultraman tiga, the first half of kamen rider hibiki, kakuranger, ultraman mebius, the first half of ultraman ace, OG ultraman, zenkaiger, donbrothers, bioman and ultraman gaia
also, i've heard really good things about daimajin kanon, janperson and spielban. i also really really liked the high school heroes tbh. ALSO ALSO ultraseven. it does have a lot of mid eps but when it hits it HITS big time

Daimajin Kanon is such a comfort show. It's so uplifting and charming. Taihei is such a lovable dork, and Kanon is just like me fr. Been stretching out my second watch-through across months because I just sit down and watch one episode sometimes for the vibes.
