Damn, rhaenicent really reignited my daensa obsession. Might be considering to continue my Daensa Skyrim!AU and flesh out the fey queens of my DnD setting that definitively aren't just daensa some more.

The Song of Ice and Fire - A Daensa Skyrim!AU (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Summery: All Daenerys wanted was to see the land of her birth but when her execution is crashed by a creature of legend her future takes a sharp turn.
Sansa hoped to spent the rest of her days in peace studying magic at the College of Winterhold but when she discovers a strange artifact in the depths of an ancient nord ruin her quiet life is thrown into chaos.
A/N: now that I have figured tumblr formatting out, I decided to share the snippets I have written for my Daensa Skyrim!AU. They won’t be long, just around 800 words average I think, and I cannot promise that I will continue them beyond what I already have but I thought I would share at least that.
Chapter 1: Helgen
Daenerys opened her eyes to the gentle sway of a cart and the creaking of wheels. It would have been calming if her hands hadn't been bound.
Her head hurt and she was sure there was a nasty cut on her forehead. Slowly she started piecing together the bits of memories.
She had been crossing over into Skyrim for Cyrodiil. Finally free from her fanatic brother she wanted to see the land she had been born in but had no memory of.
Just outside of Blackwater Crossing she had been swept up in a group of men and women. They had seemed friendly enough so she decided to travel with them for a bit for safety reasons. She had heard about Skyrim's dangerous wilds.
After that things became blurry. There was an attack - it was likely where she got hit in the head - that seemed to have taken the group she had travelled with prisoner. And her along with it.
"Hey lass", a gruff voice said from her right. Turning her head only slightly to avoid worsening the raging headache, her eyes fell on one of the men she had travelled alongside. "Good, you are finally awake. Had me worried there for a bit."
"What happened?"
"Imperial ambush", he explained. "We walked right into it, along with you and that thief over there." He jerked his head at the man opposite them, who glared right back.
"Damn you Stormcloaks", he hissed angrily. "Skyrim was fine until you came along. Empire was nice and lazy. If they hadn't been looking for you, I could have stolen that horse and been halfway to Hammerfell." He looked at Dany. "You and me - we shouldn't be here. It's these Stormcloaks the Empire wants."
Stormcloaks. That explained the Imperial ambush.
"We are all brothers and sisters in the binds now, thief", the Stormcloak soldier next to her chuckled and his calm did not help smothering Daenerys' rising panic.
"Silence, back there."
She tried to calm her racing heart. This was obviously a misunderstanding. She wasn't a rebel, she wasn't a criminal; just a young woman returning to a homeland she barely even remembered.
Surely they'd let her go once they realised that. That is what she told herself as the cart slowly rolled down the cobbled stone path, beneath ancient pines and a grey foreboding sky.
"And what's wrong with him?" She looked up to the thief that was staring at a man that had not only his hands bound but was also gagged.
"Watch your tongue", the soldier next to her growled. "That's Ulfric Stormcloak, the true high king of Skyrim."
The horse thief went pale and Daenerys' heart sank.
"Ulfric? The Jarl of Windhelm? You're the leader of the rebellion", the thief whispered. "But if they have captured you… By the Gods, where are they taking us?"
"I don't know where we are going", the soldier admitted, "but Sovngarde awaits."
"No this can't be happening. This isn't happening", the thief voiced Dany's thoughts. For a split second she wondered if she should just burn through the ropes binding her hands and try to make a run for it. It was a rash idea and she shot to down as soon as she thought of it. There was a whole caravan of Imperial soldiers.
If they didn't catch her again, some of the local wildlife would likely get her.
"What village are you from?"
"Why do you care?"
"A Nord's last thoughts should be of home", the Stormcloak soldier shrugged.
Home. She wished she had one to think of. Skyrim was the land she had been born in, but she didn't even remember it properly. They never stayed long enough at any place Viserys had dragged her to in his fanatic pursuit of power, for her to consider home.
She wondered if she would be allowed to even enter Sovngarde. She was nord but neither a great warrior nor had she done anything of importance, let alone been in touch with her people's culture.
Viserys had been more interested in the daedric forces than the aedric, and probably had considered an afterlife in servitude to one of the princes a more desirable path than anything the gods were offering.
"General Tullius, sir!"
Her head shot up. They had reached the gates of a town. More imperial soldiers and the Empire's banners flying in the wind.
"The Headsman is waiting."
-----------
A/N: That was the first chapter for Dany. The next one will be Sansa and the start of her own journey. This will go back and forth between the two with the occassional shift in POV. Again, I cannot promise how many chapters there will be, beyond what I have already written.

a little sketch of Jon and Lyanna in my Daensa Skyrim!AU
Lyanna is a member of the Companions and it caused a bit of tension with her family due to the worship of Hircine (in this the Starks are followers of Kyne). She got pregnant with Jon shortly after joining and of fear that the Silver Hand hurting him to get to her, he grew up with his Uncle and the other Starklings. When he was old enough he decided to join as well to be with his mother, who he until then only saw a few times a year. He is not sure about becoming a werewolf though since Farkas is vocal about regretting it.

The Song of Ice and Fire -  A Daensa Skyrim!AU (Part 3)

Chapter 3: Dragon Attack
Climbing out of the cart with a pounding head and bound hands turned out to be more difficult that Daenerys anticipated. Every too fast or too strong movement of her head sent a flash of pain through her temples.
They were lining them up, legionnaires at the front checking their names of lists. There were several people before her. The legionnaire at the front called the names, stoic expression never wavering. That was until she was up front.
"Name?" He asked.
"Daenerys Stormborn", she replied around the lump in her throat. The legionnaire frowned and checked his list several times. It sent Dany's heart racing.
"Captain! She is not on the list", he called to his superior, already reaching out towards Daenerys but the Captain just scoffed.
"Forget the lists. She goes to the block", the woman replied. Next to her, another woman, with the same sun kissed brown skin as the legionnaire looked up in confusion. She met Daenerys' panicked eyes and went to say something when the horse thief from her cart ran.
He did not get far. The Captain just waved her hand and an arrow hit the fleeing man straight in the neck.
"Anyone else want to make a run for it?"
Very quickly everyone's attention returned to the task at hand. And Daenerys' heart sack to the pit of her stomach. She swallowed thickly.
"I am sorry", the legionnaire said quietly. Daenerys just nodded numbly and followed his instruction to file into the lines ahead of her.
Their cart had been the last, so not long after she had joined the throngs of prisoners the priestess began blessing each soldier coming to the front. More than one told her to stop in rather unkind terms, openly saying a prayer to Talos before resting their necks on the block.
She stomached only two death before her gaze drifted around. Her eyes fell on General Tullius who, after giving a speech about Ulfirc's treason, had stood to the side. There were Thalmor representatives too, watching with smug content as the heads of the Stormcloaks rolled.
The woman she had seen standing by the Captain earlier was standing further away and pointedly trying not to watch the execution. She must be redguard by her looks, the legionnaire who had apologised to her earlier had been as well. But she was not a soldier. She looked more like a scholar, only clad in cloth and fur trimmed leather, or a senator.
For a moment Daenerys forgot she was amongst rebels waiting to be executed but when she was pushed forward all pretence fell away. She had been in the back. Why was she pushed forward?
A strange roaring sound echoed through the clean mountain air. It went largely ignored by the Imperials until Daenerys' neck laid on the block and the headsman raised his axe.
From there she had the perfect view on the guard tower and the pitch black giant dragon that nearly crushed it beneath its form when it landed.
Then the beast opened its maw and all hell broke loose. The sky turned into a swirl of purple and red and rocks started crashing down. Daenerys felt dizzy. The blood was rushing in her ears and everything was spinning. With her hands still bound she pushed herself away from the block, away from the axe. Just away.
Her legs refused service however and she fell onto her side. Her ears were ringing from the dragon's scream and the sounds around her were muffled beyond recognition.
Two strong hands pulled her up, steadied her and helped her towards another tower. Cover, she thought when a stone the size of her head crashed into the cobbled road next to her.
Her heart was hammering in her chest and she craned her neck despite the pain to search the sky for the black dragon. Her disorientation cleared rather quickly, adrenaline pumping through her veins and she realised it was the Stormcloak soldier from her cart that had pulled her to the safety of the tower. She gave him a grateful nod.
"We need to get out of here", Ralof, that was his name, said.
"The only way is up."
With a nod Dany pushed herself to her feet and began climbing the stairs, Ralof close behind her. Just when she had reached the first level, the wall to her right exploded inwards and revealed the dragon's head. Instinctually she raised her arms to shield her face and felt her magicka flow around her limps and the next second a wall of heat hit her like a raging mammoth. It threw her back, down the stairwell. Two strong arms caught her and kept her from tumbling down the steps.
When she caught her footing the stone of the tower wall and interior was still glimmering with heat, some parts glowing red hot and almost liquid. There was no sign of the Stormcloak that had been trying to clear the rubble away but a shadow on the scorched wall.
"Talos protect us", she heard a Stormcloak breath and she tended to agree with him. They certainly needed divine protection to survive this.

Chapter 2: Under Saarthal
When Sansa entered Saarthal, she immediately wrinkled her nose. The air was stale and still carried the smell of embalming fluids and dead bodies, especially further in. And unfortunately that was exactly where she was headed.
Together, she and the other older students, they were supposed to investigate the burrow for anything of interest. If it hadn't been for Bran's excited letters - "there's something down there, Sansa! I just know it. I can't remember the book but I remember there were rumours about something." - she would have passed the field trip in favour of continuing on her studies. If they had cleared out the tomb without finding anything yet, maybe she could bring Bran here so he could investigate it himself.
She had come to realise that her little brother had a knack for the esoteric aspects of magic, the heavy and complicated theories of the fabric of their world that made her own head hurt after an hour of reading.
That he was stuck in Winterfell made her a little sad, though she knew all too well that there were much worse places to be stuck at than a loving family home. But for the time being he was too young anyway to go anywhere to study no matter how talented. And there was still the issue of his immobility after his fall.
Though Sansa wouldn't be surprised if in her mother's next letter she'd read that Bran had now mastered the telekinesis spell and was levitating himself everywhere. Or that the Psijics would just appear on Winterfell's doorstep and offer him a place with them.
Smiling to herself at the thought she continued her walk through the stone hall ways. Distantly she could hear her fellow students talk, apparently being sent on a similar quest by Arniel. Until now all she had found was dust and cobwebs and an intense urge to very thoroughly wash herself this evening.
The hallway ended in a dead end and with a sigh Sansa turned around to head back when her foot hit something small and made of metal by the sound of it and sent it flying across the hall.
Curiously she searched the rough and uneven cobbled floor until she unearthed a simple copper band from the dirt, dust and dead insects. It was enchanted, the soft red swirls clearly visible to a trained eye, but nothing really special. Maybe the floor would yield more such knick-knacks?
Summoning a mage light Sansa made her way back down the hallway and even revisiting some she had already walked while keeping an eye out any metal glinting in the light. After a few minutes there was another flash.
"Ah, you found one too", Brelyna said, appearing in the hallway when Sansa stood again, a second ring held between her fingers. Brelyna held out a third ring in her open palm.
"My second one actually", Sansa frowned and pulled the first ring she had found from her pouch. They held them close to each other, examining them. They looked near identical.
"Well, there ought to be some valuables down here right?" Brelyna asked. "The ancient nord were buried with some of their wealth after all."
Sansa agreed. Finding rings, amulets or even gold in the burrows was not uncommon. Jon and Arya both found a good amount of gold and valuables in the burrows they had investigated.
"Any luck finding anything else?"
"Nothing", Brelyna sighed. "I am beginning to doubt that there is anything here."
Sansa hummed in acknowledgement. Maybe they would find something further in. These burrows extended for Kyne knew how far underground and they were centuries old. They were bound to find something at some point. It made Brelyna brighten up slightly.
"Shall we continue?" Still the dunmer sighed and looked around uncomfortably.
"I guess we should", she gave in.
Quietly chatting over their courses and tutors Sansa and Brelyna all but strolled through the dark hallways of the burrow. Only when it was eerily quiet around them did they notice that they had wandered off from the rest of their group.
They shared a quick look and their hands lit up with magic, in case some draugr decided to attack them. Now very carefully and almost without a sound after Sansa cast a quick Muffle spell, they walked further into the burrow.
“I don’t like this”, Brelyna muttered, the lights of uncast Flames flickering in her palm. It was no secret that the dunmer did not like the burrows and really only participated in this excavation for the credits it would earn her. Sansa couldn’t fault her. Her ideal afternoon looked different too but it was for Bran she was here. Though she felt a certain amount of excitement at the sights of the ancient carvings.
“Me neither”, Sansa admitted. “But if we were to find anything, it would be here, don’t you think?” It must have been Arya’s ghost that possessed her in that moment, thinking about the adventure of fighting draugr and unearthing treasure, and a small excited smile played on her lips before she forced herself to be serious again. Excavations like this could be dangerous if one wasn’t careful.
So they pressed on, Sansa taking the lead. Her hands were constantly alight with frost magic, ready to throw an Ice Spike at any mummified ancient nord that might come at them.
Fortunately there were none and she and Brelyna were struggling to keep their guard up. Then they came to a dead end. Both women’s hands fell to their sides in confusion and slight disappointment as they stood in front of the black iron gate.
“Well”, Brelyna sighed.
“That was anticlimactic”, Sansa stated with a frown. “This can’t be it.” Bran had insisted that there was something under Saarthal. Determined to bring something back for her brother she stepped closer up towards the gate to inspect it, maybe find a way to open it. Stepping past the supporting pillar to her left she spotted something that had been hidden before.
There, embedded in the wall, was some sort of bust and on it laid a necklace.
Curiously she stepped closer.
It wasn’t a pretty necklace. Not even remotely. It was ancient and looked rather archaic, adorned with old feathers and fangs. Just what one would expect to find in a burrow. It’s placement in the burrow was what confused and intrigued Sansa. Why was it placed here, in a random hallway?
Without thinking she reached and carefully lifted it from its resting place. The sound of the hidden mechanism triggering was instant.
“Fuck”, was all she could say before a metal gate crashed from above and cut her off from her way out.

A/N: with that we have Sansa’s first chapter down.

The Song of Ice and Fire -  A Daensa Skyrim!AU (Part 4)

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Summery: All Daenerys wanted was to see the land of her birth but when her execution is crashed by a creature of legend her future takes a sharp turn.
Sansa hoped to spent the rest of her days in peace studying magic at the College of Winterhold but when she discovers a strange artifact in the depths of an ancient nord ruin her quiet life is thrown into chaos.

Chapter 4: Under Saarthal (Part 2)
She should have known. This was an ancient nord burrow, of course something would eventually happen, be it good or bad. And this time she had no one to blame but herself.
“Sansa, are you alright?” Brelyna asked concerned. The dunmer had managed to get on the other side of the gate and was already pressing against it, searching for her friend.
“Yes, I am fine”, Sansa assured her, waving her hand to disperse the dust the mechanism had disturbed and blown into the air. Quickly her eyes scanned the walls and ceiling for any sign of a hidden lever or chain to raise the gate again. “Can you see any mechanism to open the gate from your side? I don’t think there is one on mine.”
“Wait, I’ll take a look.”
“What in the world was that racket?” Tolfdir’s voice echoed through the hallway. “Is everything alright?” Sansa let out a relieved sigh. Thank Kyne, Brelyna did not need to go get the others. Sansa had no interest in being left alone in this small space, especially with the ominous coffins mounted to the wall opposite her.
“Master Tolfdir”, Brelyna called. “We’re here. Sansa is trapped.” A moment later, the weathered face of their teacher appeared on the other side of the gate.
“How in Nirn did that happen?” The old mage asked, as he too began looking for a hidden mechanism. Sansa pressed her lips together, knowing full well it had been stupid to just pick up an amulet in a nord burrow. But what was done was done and her parents had taught her to take responsibility for her mistakes.
“I picked up an amulet”, she told them. “Immediately after, the gate closed.”
“An amulet?” Quickly the old man shuffled over and motioned Sansa to show it.
Glaring down at the archaic piece of jewellery, as if all of this was its fault she held it up towards the gate, mindful that no strain was put on it.
“It must be important if it was protected by such a mechanism”, Tolfdir thought aloud. “Can you perhaps utilise it somehow?”
She looked down at the thing with a mild feeling of disgust. Who know how long it had been down here. How many insects may have laid eggs in or on it. She shuddered at the thought of putting it on or even touching it more than she already was.
But she had gotten herself in this mess and she would get herself out of it. So she pulled her hood over her hair and gently put the crude amulet around her neck.
There was an instant reaction.
Not with the gate but with the piece of wall the bust had been mounted on. Carefully she stepped up to it, feeling rather than seeing the resonance between the amulet that sat thrumming against her chest and something behind the wall.
“There is something behind that wall”, she told them, excitement bubbling up. “There’s some kind of resonance.”
“I can see it”, Tolfdir confirmed. “Fascinating. Whatever is behind the wall must be connected to the amulet. Try casting a spell”, he advised. “It might disrupt the resonance and reset the mechanism.”
Sansa cast a questioning look at Brelyna, but the dunmer could only shrug. So she fully positioned herself in front of the wall, sank into the current of her magicka and cast a Frostbite spell on the wall.
There were many things she had expected to happen: nothing at all, for her spell to be nullified, or thrown back at her, for it to trigger another trap. But not for the wall to crumble like loose soil. For a moment she stood dumbfounded but only until she heard the metal gate retract. Brelyna was beside her in an instant, following her line of sight into the space behind the crumbled wall.
Both easily made way for their teacher, who inspected the new pathway with great interest.
“Well, would you look at that”, the old man marvelled. “This appears to lead somewhere.” And then with a spark of adventure in his eyes and a somewhat conspirational tone he added: “Let’s see where it leads.”
Sansa and Brelyna shared an incredulous look.
“Master Tolfdir, are you sure?” Brelyna asked worriedly as she scrambled after the old man.
“This part of the burrow has not been secured yet”, Sansa agreed. “It’s likely there will be draugr or worse down there.”
“Brelyna, Sansa, you are bother excellent students”, Tolfdir told them happily, “but I am always surprised by your lack of sense for an adventure. We will stay together and be watchful and I assure you everything will be perfectly fine.”
Oh, Arya would love him, Sansa grumbled to herself. That was exactly the sentiment her sister shared.
“There is nothing wrong with being cautious”, she argued.
“Of course not, dear child”, Tolfdir agreed. “But never let caution get in the way of discovery. This part of the burrow must have been sealed of for centuries, even millennials. Now that we have uncovered it, time is of the essence.”
Sansa couldn’t argue with that. And she had promised Bran to find whatever was hidden in this burrow. So she took a deep breath and, just in case, readied an ice spike spell.
