Vaccines are good

Dad!Colin Zabel x Mom!fem!reader
Summary: You and your husband Colin make up a happy family, Colin turned out to be a great father and you both love your little son. But can the detective get out of trouble when they take his son to be vaccinated?
Warnings: fluffy things and mention of needles and childhood illnesses of course
Word count: 2.8k ***************
Colin was preparing lunch while Alex was sitting at the table drawing with his crayons. The handsome detective smashed two eggs into the pan, adding salt, pepper and coriander and then began to beat them with the fork. He would take care of preparing something else for Alex, over time he had learned that the little one didn't like omelettes. He arranged the food on the plates and served them on the table waiting for you to get home from work.
"Hey champion, what are you drawing?" Colin asked, bringing his face closer to the sheet of paper.
The boy happily held the paper up with pride. "It's you with your police car!"
Colin smiled when he saw himself in that drawing. The colors spilled out of the lines but the detective could clearly be seen standing next to his car, which had the dome lights on, shining red and blue. Alex was very proud of his father and always said that when he grows up he wants to be like him, he even often wore his father's clothes and played cops and robbers with his schoolmate. Colin always laughs but obviously he worries that his son will be involved in a dangerous and stressful job like that.
"It's amazing kid! you even drew the details of my uniform, you are talented!"
Alex's cheeks turned tulip-pink with pure joy as he smiled widely. The boy was a carbon copy of his father, same eyes, same hair and every time he smiled you saw Colin. Suddenly there was a sound of keys opening the door and a sweet voice announced their arrival.
"It's mom!!" Alex got out of his chair running towards the door while you opened it laughing at his enthusiasm. Colin also came to meet you.
"Hey! How was my teddy bear today?"
You scooped Alex into your arms as you planted a loud, slobbery kiss on his cheek. The little boy laughed and then with a grimace of disgust he wiped his cheek without stopping laughing, his face was so funny that it infected you with laughter. You weren't afraid to show how much you loved your son even if you were a little clingy at times.
"Hi sweetie, welcome home." Colin hugged you around the waist and kissed you tenderly on the lips.
"Ew..". The boy said, making a disgusted face and looking away.
Colin laughed tenderly. "Why don't you show mommy what you did today, huh?"
The boy nodded with great enthusiasm and jumping happily.
"Let's see Alex, show me"
Your son grabbed your hand and quickly led you to the table where his little drawing rested. With both hands he raised it to the level of his face.
"Ta-daa!! Guess who it is!!"
You gasped in surprise as you grabbed the drawing from the boy's small hands. You looked at it carefully while smiling sweetly. The proportions of the things he had drawn were not perfect but they seemed adorable to you.
"Oh my god Alex, it's beautiful! And It's daddy! and with his police car of course"
"Yeah!! you guessed it!". Alex smiled at you with that gap between his frontal paddles that seemed so tender and pretty to you.
"Let's hang your drawing on the refrigerator door, what do you think, honey?"
Your son shouted yes and you gave Colin a smiling look.
"I think it's a great idea babe"
While you placed the drawing under two magnets Colin asked his son what he wanted for lunch.
"Ok little champ, what do you want for lunch? You don't want an omelet, right?"
Alex shook his head vigorously while sticking out his tongue in a grimace of disgust.
Colin smiled in amusement. "Alright, alright. How about pasta?"
"Yay I love pasta!!"
The detective laughed amused, it was no secret that your son loved Italian food. you turned around looking at them happily.
"Ok, then pasta will be"
Your husband had gotten up from his seat to put the noodles in a pot when Alex sneezed loudly. Colin stopped halfway looking at you while you approached Alex with concern.
"What was that, hun?" You gently took his chin in your hand, inspecting him.
"I don't know, mommy". Alex sniffed the snot with his nose as he wiped it on a sleeve.
"I already told you not to wipe your snot on your sleeve, you'll make it dirty."
"Sorry mom.."
You looked for a disposable tissue in your purse that Colin handed you and leaned close to your son's face.
"Come here"
You carefully wiped his nose while inspecting his nasal passages for any possible infection or irritation but found nothing alarming.
"Well It seems like you don't have any infection, maybe it's a simple allergy. "My love, was he like this all day?" You turned to look at your husband who returned a worrying look.
"Actually no, he was perfect. Just now he started sneezing"
You put your arms on your hips as you looked at your son thoughtfully who looked back at you a little scared.
"But he had already had a cold last week, right?"
Colin nodded. You still remembered what it had been like last week. Alex had had a fever and cough and had stayed in bed resting as the doctor had said. The poor thing couldn't leave the house to play with his friends and spent time eating soups that he considered very bland.
Worried, you walked quickly to your bedroom to look for Alex's vaccination record. You checked that everything was in order, Alex had all the vaccines from when he was a few months old baby. But he was missing the measles vaccine, which he had to get at age 5. Alarmed, you returned to the kitchen with the booklet in your hand. Alex had a terrified face when he saw it, he already knew that the storm was about to break loose.
"Colin, Alex doesn't have the measles vaccine and he's already 6, he must get it as soon as possible".
When the little boy heard the word vaccine, he jumped in his chair.
"Sure, it makes sense. The symptoms are fever, cough and runny nose, that's what he suffered last week"
"Come on, bring the car keys, we have to take him to the nearest hospital".
The detective grabbed the keys that were hanging on a cute keychain on the wall hand painted by Alex and you grabbed your purse and put on a jacket. When you called your son, he got out of the chair scared, getting as far away from the two of you as possible.
"NO!". He yelled
The two of you were about to open the door when the child's scream made you turn around to see him. When the little naughty boy made sure he had both of your attention, he returned to the charge, shouting.
"I DON'T WANNA GO TO THE DOCTOR AND I DON'T WANT VACCINES!!!"
Alex crossed his arms angrily as he furrowed his eyebrows so tightly that his forehead became wrinkled.
"Alexis Zabel!"
You put your hands on your hips, also furrowing your eyebrows, looking at him defiantly, you could play that game too. Everyone in the family knew that when you called your son by his full name it was because you had exhausted your patience and he was in serious trouble.
Colin took a step forward, trying to calm the atmosphere and cut the tension that would be felt in the air.
"Come on Alex, don't make mom angry, don't make it harder".
The detective approached with his arms open to grab his son but the boy was faster and ran screaming towards his room as if he had a rocket up his ass.
"NOOOOO!"
You ran in his direction, annoyed. "Alexis come here immediately!"
Colin grabbed your arm. "Wait, let me talk to him."
You huffed in agreement while your husband smiled at you, caressing your wrist. Colin headed to his son's room. His dark wooden door was decorated with posters of dinosaurs and robots. He knocked on the door twice.
"Alex? It's me, daddy. Can I come in?"
The man heard Alex's muffled voice from being behind the thick door giving him a negative answer, from his tone of voice he seemed still angry.
"Please son I just want to talk I promise"
Zabel waited anxiously by the door when a slight movement of the handle made him sigh in relief. Alex's chubby face barely peeked out of the space he had left open.
"Fine, come in"
Colin walked in smiling. Alex's room was quite big. The walls were decorated with drawings and posters of his favorite cartoons. There were also shelves with dolls and stuffed animals piled up, many of them were dinosaurs, he loved them. His toy trunk also had fire engines, tanks and racing cars that the boy had even taken charge of naming. The bed where the boy was sitting was shaped like a car and his blankets had drawings of prehistoric animals and plants. Colin sat next to his son who remained very serious.
"Listen Al, I know you don't want to get vaccinated but it's for your own good.". Colin used to use that pet name with his son.
"Adults always say that". Alex crossed his arms and turned his face away so as not to see his father.
"But it's because it's the truth. You know?, when I was your age I didn't want to get vaccinated either."
Alex's little face lit up in surprise as she turned to look at him. "Really?"
"Yes, really. Look, if you promise to behave like the brave boy I know you are, on the way out, I promise to buy you the biggest ice cream you want".
"You promise?". Said the boy smiling
Colin extended his pinky in promise. "Pinky promise, kid"
Alex intertwined his pinky with his father's, laughing happily as they both left the room, but not before grabbing a toy car for Alex to entertain himself and calm down. You continued waiting at the door impatiently moving one foot up and down until you saw them leave the room.
"We can go now". Your husband said smiling.
***************
The ride to the hospital was quite quiet, from time to time you would take quick glances at Alex who was calmly playing with his toy in the back seat. Colin sensed your nervousness and grabbed your hand firmly, smiling at you while he held the steering wheel with the other.
"Don't worry, he'll be fine." He whispered to you
You nodded, smiling. Everything seemed calm and correct, but when he arrived at the establishment and got out of the car, Alex saw the facade of the hospital and the fear returned to him, so he started screaming and kicking to get back to the car. You grabbed your son's hand, pulling him with Colin's help to get him into the hospital but Alex couldn't stop crying. The detective crouched down next to his son.
"Remember what we talked about, if you continue like this there will be no ice cream"
Colin's slightly threatening tone brooked no reply. Alex was going to say something but upon looking into his father's intimidating eyes he decided to remain silent. So, with a dejected air and the face of a lamb about to go to the slaughterhouse, they headed inside the building. Of course the boy carried the toy car under his arm. In the waiting room there were many children more or less his age, some teenagers and babies a few months old. With a sad and scared face, Alex sat between his parents to await his fatal fate. The other children also seemed somewhat dejected.
You knew how tortuous it is for a child to be vaccinated, you still remember when you went nervously to the waiting room to get an injection when you were a child. And honestly the screams and cries that came from the door where the vaccines were given was not exactly relaxing. That's why you took your son's delicate hand in yours, squeezing it gently to give him warmth, courage and protection.
"Sweetheart, you can do it, I trust you. And when we get into the room I will be with you the entire time and I will hold your hand so it doesn't hurt."
Your son wiped a small tear that was almost dry from his rosy cheek and looked at you with a shy smile.
"Alright, if you say so..."
The hours passed and the waiting room was emptying. There were only two people left ahead of you. Many of the children came out smiling with tears in their eyes, others didn't say anything and looked at the ground as they walked. Then a plump older woman called them by Alex's full name. The little boy did not want to go but he remembered his father's promise and bravely squeezed your hand and headed to the room while your husband sat waiting outside.
The injection room was beige and the walls were decorated with paintings of animals to calm the children, you weren't sure if it really worked. There was also a medium-sized window with baby blue curtains that overlooked a garden full of flowering bushes. You directed your distracted gaze there when the woman brought you out of your thoughts.
"Okay, so this is little Alex Zabel."
The lady was wearing a dark blue nurse's uniform and was smiling affably. You looked at your son who could only look down holding on to his toy car.
"Oh it's ok honey, it'll just be a little prick". The woman said
Alex's eyes were starting to water again so you tenderly wrapped your arms around his shoulders in a protective gesture. "Sweetie everything will be fine, you'll see"
The nurse told Alex to sit in a chair and roll up the sleeve of his shirt so she could give him the injection. She also asked him which arm he wanted the injection in and the boy pointed to his left arm. The good-natured woman began to prepare the needle, taking one out of a sterilized envelope that was in a plastic box full of them. When you saw them, a slight chill ran down your spine. You still remembered your first vaccine as if it were yesterday and you understood everyone more than ever. those children who came out crying.
Alex also saw the needles and buried his face in your chest, scared. You grabbed her hand and whispered the words you had said before "Remember, mommy is here and I won't let go of your hand."
The little boy nodded and sat up straight in his chair, squeezing your hand tightly as he showed his left arm to the nurse. She tapped the needle with her gloved hands to make the liquid go down.
"Alright, little Alex, take a deep breath."
Alex closed his eyes tightly until his nose wrinkled and he squeezed your hand even harder as it started to hurt, never underestimate the strength of a scared 6 year old child. It was barely a second until the nurse announced that she was finished.
"Done! You see it wasn't that big of a deal?".She laughed sweetly
Your son opened his brown eyes wide and looked at his arm in surprise, looking for any cut or wound, both women laughed and the nurse carefully squeezed his arm with cotton.
"Hold this cotton in your arm for a few minutes, then you could throw it away. Aaand." The woman took out a red popsicle from a jar and handed it to the child who was looking with bright, greedy eyes. "This is for you, for being such a brave child."
"That's very kind, thank you" You said to the nurse and looked at your son "You thank her too, Alex."
The little one had already put the lollipop in his mouth without thinking twice and didn't even take it out to respond "Thzank yough"
Mother and son left the small room hand in hand, happy and laughing. Colin was already standing waiting for them with a relieved smile on his face.
"So? How did my little champion do?"
"Oh he was incredible, he didn't cry even once"
"And look daddy!!, the nurse gave me a lollipop for being good!"
"Oh look at that!"
Colin lifted the boy into his arms giving him a kiss on the cheek while you held his toy.
"It seems that today you are going to stuff yourself with so many sweet things"
"What does that mean?". You asked funny and curious
"It means daddy will buy me ice cream!!!"
Colin looked down, smiling a little embarrassed for not telling his wife about the deal.
"Oh yeah? Well I guess daddy can buy ice cream for everyone too." You said laughing and giving your husband a kiss on the cheek.
Colin laughed and agreed to pay for the other ice creams. They returned to the car happy, heading to the nearest ice cream parlor, eager to try that sweet and frozen dessert.

I have read many stories where Colin is the father of a girl, so I wanted to write a story where he had a son.
By the way, I wrote this after reading the @sweeter-innocence-fics fic. Thanks for being an inspiration for this, you can read her Colin fic here

Colin zabel , fem reader, he’s arresting you (rightfully so!) little tiny imagine wc 2093 (not proof read)
Tumblr media
“I'm a detective. What do you mean I have to…”He coughed, his annoyance unmistakable. You sat on the curb, the cuffs heavy on your wrists. You let out a huff, the alcohol making you dizzy. “I'm a detective, Mare,” he repeated into the phone. Colin was usually calm, always the good cop who could control his nerves. But after being assigned to petty calls, his frustration was at an all-time high. “Come on,” he said, gently grabbing your arm and leading you to the back of his car. You followed him, your gaze shamelessly tracing the outline of his button up shirt, eyelids drooping. He placed you gently in the back seat, careful to ensure you didn't hit your head. You stumbled a bit, shuffling around and holding your temples.
“Head spinning?” Colin chuckled, trying to lift her spirits or at least make her headache feel less terrible. “Yeah, I can imagine. I'd probably puke if I drank as much as you did—that's a ton of tequila. Just try to relax.” He started the car.
You didn't know how you ended up in this situation. One minute, you were at the bar, throwing back drinks and dancing with random strangers, and now here you are, cuffed, confused, and sick to your stomach. You wore a black tube dress and Prada heels, courtesy of her daddy's money. You were the kind of girl who had never been in cuffs in your life. Back in the city, your dad was well known—anything you did was right, even when the law said it was wrong. You leaned your head against the window, stomach churning. You were only here for the summer; you'd never stay in this small, quiet town by choice.
“Your parents must be worried... what's a girl like you doing in a place like that?” Colin asked, his hands gripping the steering wheel, eyes focused on you in the rearview mirror. your legs started shaking at the thought of spending a night in a cell. Colin glanced down at your trembling body, trying to think of something soothing to say.
“Everything will be just fine,” he said softly, his tone comforting. “You're just in a bit of trouble, but it'll be sorted out soon. Take a couple of deep breaths, and try to focus on somethin’ else instead of being cuffed inside a police car.” He focused on the road again.
“I don't feel good,” you murmured, your cuffed hands fiddling with your dress. He glanced back, noticing how your eyes glazed over.
“Whoa, are you gonna puke, kid?” he asked, worry evident in his voice. “Not in the back of my car—” He quickly pulled the car to the side of the road, rubbing his forehead as he unbuckled his seatbelt. In one swift motion, he was at the back door, opening it and looking down at you. “I'm gonna put you in the front, okay?” you gave him a simple nod, the sickness creeping up your throat. You tried to hold it down with deep breaths.
He got you to the side, gently helping you into the front seat and buckling you up. “Don't go pulling anything,” he joked with a hint of worry. He was so used to party girls trying to bolt from the car that he assumed the same from you, even in your sick condition.
“Oh, trust me, officer, I'm not,” you replied softly, leaning back into the seat as the nausea began to calm. His eyes widened at the softness of your voice; he hadn't expected you to even speak. He walked back to the front, got in his seat, and started the car, letting out a breath he hadn't even realized he was holding in. He sighed wearily as they pulled towards the station, noticing it was slightly empty with only one or two officers in the front. “Hey, it's Colin—what are you doing out here? It's one am,” the male officer yelled as Colin parked.
“Can you uncuff me?” you asked, your tone tired and annoyed. Colin's expression shifted from one of weariness to amusement at your request. “And let you bolt while we're walking in?” He raised an eyebrow, a wry smile pulling at the corners of his lips.
“How about this? I'll keep your wrists nice and loose. But we're walking with a little bit of police officer-suspect dignity, alright? No sprintin'. And no kickin' my ass. Deal?” You rolled your eyes.
“I knew we'd come to an agreement.” Colin grinned, a chuckle escaping his lips. He reached for the keys and unfastened the handcuffs, gently loosening them around your wrist. His touch was surprisingly delicate, fingers grazing against the smooth skin, leaving goosebumps in their wake.
“Yeah, just doing a few rounds... Mare asked me,” he replied to the officers outside, coughing slightly as he unbuckled himself and then you. You were a bit more sober now, mind clearing up as he walked you both into the station. He brought you to a seat.
“I don't think we'll do fingerprints and pictures if this is your first offense,” he started as you sat in the old wooden chair. He shifted around, grabbing keys and opening the cell. “You get a phone call,” he said softly. You nodded as he handed you the phone from the desk. You tapped the buttons, calling your dad.
“Hi... yes, I got arrested for, um…” You looked up at Colin as his eyes narrowed in a furrow. “Public intoxication and starting a bar fight. You threw a drink at one of the bartenders,... and missed” he said sternly, his eyes trained on you as you rolled your eyes. “Yeah, for that... okay, see you,” you finished, fiddling with the loose cuffs on your wrists.
“Do I really have to stay in here” you asked, eyes closing as you sighed at your situation—this could go on record if he wanted it to. You walked to the cell, letting out another frustrated breath as you hooked your hands on the cold bars. “Gross…” you said under your breath, looking around the cell. He closed it and locked it. “If I'm in here, can you at least give me a blanket?” you groaned.
He thought for a moment, glancing at your small pout—you were seriously asking as if he was going to say yes. “Please,” you tried to convince. His expression turned into amusement, this girl really had a lot of request for someone in trouble. “A blanket... in a police station?” he asked, stifling his laugh. You groaned internally before pointing at something behind him. “They're in there, I know they are, and I'm cold... Look at what I'm wearing?” His eyes trailed down to your outfit, the black tube dress tightly clinging to your skin, leaving little to the imagination. He coughed awkwardly, still gawking at it. "Ok-Okay," he stammered a bit, grabbing the blanket and bringing it up to the bars.
You wrapped the blanket around her frame, snuggling into it a bit. “Thanks,” you said softly. His cheeks turned a bit pink, and he quickly turned away, sprinting to the desk. He decided that filling out paperwork would distract him until the next officer came to switch out. you knew you’d be in for hours, dad's warning echoed in your mind: “Don't cause any more trouble. I'm here for work. Next time, you're gonna spend the night in that cell.” And he meant it, here you were sitting there, boredly clinging to your blanket.
“Officer,” you called out, looking at him intently. His short brown hair was messy as he briefly glanced up at you. You noticed how dark his eyes were, almost black, his skin pale, he looked tired. He raised his eyebrow, letting out a hm. “Detective Zabel,” he corrected, his eyes staying trained on the paper. You bit her lip slightly, taking in his appearance before smiling. “Can I get a bottle of water, Mister Zabel?”
He looked under the desk, grabbing a bottle of water from the mini-fridge stored there. Jogging up to the bars, he slipped it through, setting it on the floor for her.
“Thank you, Detective... you know,” you started, grabbing it with her cuffed hands and twisting the top off with her lips. “My daddy's a detective too,” you said, your tone almost amused. His eyes widened in surprise as he leaned against the bars. “That should give you more motivation to be a good girl, shouldn't it?” he said, not realizing how he sounded.
“A good girl? i’m good” you scoffed, giving him a playful look as your cheeks heated up slightly. “Then why are you drinkin' so much, kid?” he asked softly, looking into her eyes.
“I'm an adult; I can drink,” you replied simply, taking a sip of water. Truthfully, you had a problem. you’d never admit it, but the stress of your father being so distant—always prioritizing his job over you—took a toll. Whenever you were reminded of your mother, you would drown the thoughts with whatever alcohol you could get your fingers on.
He could sense the inner turmoil just from that reply. Your nose wrinkled up as you said it, hinting at something deeper, but it wasn't his place to pry. Or maybe it was just that your nose wrinkling up distracted him—it was so cute. He shifted around a bit, moving away from the bars, trying to shake off the thoughts. He was a professional.
“True, but you aren't even 21 yet, kid. Drinking like that could get you into more trouble than you are now... I let you off, yanno,” he said sincerely. “Detective Zabel. You don't have to call me a kid—” you started, but he groaned, letting out a soft chuckle. "You are a kid to me," he continued, a hint of amusement in his voice.
“You're like 28; how am I a kid to you?” you asked, your face twisted into confusion. Colin chuckled softly, an amused smile tugging at the corners of his mouth the moment the words left your lips. “28?” he repeated, eyebrows arching slightly in surprise. A wry grin crossed his face, a touch of humor glinting in his eyes. “Try 35, kid. I may have been blessed with an ageless face, but these lines ain't no lie.”
You cocked your head to the side, doing a double take at him before shaking your head. “You look good, Detective Zabel,” you said with a shrug. Colin blinked his eyes wide, the corners of his lips curving into a flattered smile. His cheeks slightly tinged with a soft blush, the compliment clearly caught him off guard. He couldn't think of the last time he'd gotten a compliment from a woman, especially one so forward.
“Oh, uh- thank you,” he replied, rubbing shyly at the nape of his neck. You noticed his dimple poking out, smiling to yourself. You had made him fluster from one small compliment.
“Are you trying to butter me up?” he asked softly, a playful grin tugging at the corners of his lips. You shook her head, a hint of mischief dancing in your voice. “No, but a little conversation can make time fly by. I'm not getting out of here anytime soon,” you huffed, frustration evident in your tone.
“Why not, kid? Thought you were getting picked up soon?” he said, puzzled, looking at the phone and then back to you.
“Yeah, he wants me to deal with the consequences, yanno... detective stuff,” you said with a slightly bitter laugh. Colin nodded in agreement; he would be that strict too. “I would too, kid. Getting drunk and causing all that ruckus in a town as small as this—if you got out, everyone would know,” he adds tiredly. You nodded in agreement, but you didn't care about what they thought. you were there as long as your dad's investigation lasted.
“Well... you're still a young woman, a beautiful young woman, might I add. You stay out of trouble,” he replied awkwardly, letting out a yawn. You giggled softly, noticing his discomfort as his eyes avoided yours while he nodded.
“I'll try,” you teased, leaning against the wall, yawning quietly. “Oh, you're getting tired... I'm gonna give you something to lay your head on,” he said gently, looking at his jacket shuffled into the corner. He grabbed it before opening her cell, sitting it near her. “Go to sleep; by morning, your dad should be here,” he said, locking it and going back to his boring paperwork, his cheeks still red

OHHHHH MY GODDDDD I'M CRYING MY HEART
Mmmfff Colin being a father to twins, my heart is aching.
Anyway here's a little thought about it.
"daddyy.." Your younger child whispered into Colin's ear, smiling to herself. Elke giggled and waited for her father to wake up. It was 6am and Halloween. Your favourite holiday. Made extra special with the two 6 year olds bouncing on their toes.
"ah it's not even 8 yet.." Colin sleepily chuckled, scooping up Elke into his arms.
"but it's Halloween!!" Levi piped up, cuddling himself into your chest still. "And Halloween is extra special!"
"is it now? Wanna tell me how this one is special kiddo?" He chuckled again, sitting up and letting Elke nuzzle into his neck happily. The twins loved Halloween as much as you, dragging the tired detective into your celebrations for the day.
"My cousin made their costumes this year." You chimed in before the little ones said anything. Your cousin was a seamstress, and made the twins two outfits based off Enchanted, Elke's favourite Disney movie. Elke's dress was basically a mini version of Giselle's wedding dress, and Levi's outfit was a mini version of Edward's prince outfit. "we're gonna mini versions of Giselle and Edward running around the house."
"oh that's gonna be real cute." Colin smirked, kissing Elke's forehead. "I think you're gonna be the prettiest princess in your costume little one."
"nuh uh! Momma's the prettiest princess!"
"noo, momma's the prettiest queen." Colin quickly retorted Levi's compliment. Which just made you chuckle bashfully, and blush at the thought of being a queen. "Can you two go and wash your hands for me kiddos? Give your momma and I time to wake up properly. Then we can make a start on celebrating Halloween."
The twins immediately jumped off your bed, running into the bathroom giggling to themselves about today being Halloween. Colin sighed after and smiled at you tiredly. "How on earth do they have so much energy at 6 in the morning..?"
"That will forever be a mystery to me my darling." You yawned a bit, smiling before kissing Colin's cheek. "They might have just taken all my love for Halloween from me."
"that's impossible love, I've never know anyone who loves Halloween more than you."
"it might be possible. I can't be bothered to get up right now." Your words only made Colin laugh a bit, and he immediately got out of bed, walking over to your side. "No. No.. Colin don't-" and you were immediately picked up, his arms under your legs and under your arms. A squeal escaped you as your arms instinctvely went around his neck.
"Let's go make breakfast for the waiting twins." He grinned, striding out your room with you in his arms. "Levi! Elke! Come help with breakfast!" Colin said over his shoulder into the twins' room. They immediately rushed down the stairs, watching Colin carry you into the kitchen.
He placed you down eventually and you just smiled at him, kissing him. "you're an idiot, I love you so much."
Colin happily kissed you, keeping his arms around your waist. "Love you more darling, and that'll always be true."

You mentioned you could flesh some of the Evans as Parents out into oneshots and asked if anyone would have interest in some in particular... well I gotta say that dad Kit and dad Colin are way too adorable hahaha... if it's okay could you write oneshots for these two parenting pretty please? thank you 💗
Thank you for the request! I’m glad that people liked my Evans as parents headcanons and wanted to read more! This one is for Colin but Kit will be coming along soon. Enjoy 💓
I’ll Always Be Here (dad!Colin Zabel x fem!reader)
A bad case really shakes Colin up and he needs to be with his little girl.
Warnings: mention of a child death (the same one from Colin’s case in MoE)
Note: My first Colin fic! It’s a little short but I hope people still like it. Also I had no clue what to name Colin’ daughter so I went on a random name generator and got Millie. It’s cute so it works 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media
It had been a tough day, one of those days you just want to forget. One of those days you never wanted to face. Colin had to do the unthinkable today. He’d had to tell two parents that their ten year old daughter had died, the girl they still hoped was alive out there. After months of investigation she had finally been found, just not in the condition Colin, the parents and probably everyone hoped for. It had been an awful day.
After hearing about the breakthrough in Colin’s case you knew you couldn’t go to bed before he got home, knowing that he’d need your support as soon as he stepped through the door. So, after you’d bathed Millie and put her to bed you settled down on the couch and put on some random movie, waiting for Colin to come home.
It was 2am when he finally got home, and you were still awake on the sofa waiting for him.
Colin looked utterly defeated as he stepped through the door. His face was pale, dark circles were under his eyes and just the way he held his body was sad. You were instantly up from the couch and pulling Colin into your arms, hugging him. His arms automatically wrapped around you and he clung to you tightly, pressing his face into your neck. You felt a dampness against your skin and you realised he was crying.
“She was only ten,” he cried and you tightened your hold on him, just being there for him. He needed you right now, and you were going to be the best comfort you could be.
“You found her, Colin,” you murmured, pulling back from the hug to look him directly in his bloodshot eyes. You cupped his cheek. “You found her and you brought her home.”
“But not alive,” Colin’s voice was barely audible, but you could still hear the heartbreak. He sniffed and wiped his eyes free of tears. “Is Millie in bed?”
You nodded. “Yeah she’s been asleep for a few hours. She went down straight away tonight. No fuss.”
Colin cracked a smile. “That’s my girl,” he said softly. “Do you mind if I go see her?”
“Colin, you don’t need to ask,” you rolled your eyes before pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Of course you can go see her.”
You knew why Colin wanted to go and sit with Millie. He’d always popped his head round the door if she was in bed when he got home from work, just to see her and make sure she was okay, but the past few weeks he’d been spending a lot longer in there. Some nights he’d sit in there for hours, not wanting to let Millie out of his sight. This case he was working on had made him paranoid, and although Colin and Millie together was such a lovely sight, it also broke your heart, knowing the stress and heartache he was going through trying to find this poor girl. You just knew Colin was imagining what if the missing girl was Millie.
Colin made his way to Millie’s room. It was lit up with a purple butterfly shaped night light which illuminated Millie’s tiny face. He grabbed the rocking chair from the corner of the room and dragged it so that it was next to his daughter’s bed, so he could sit and admire her and remind himself that Millie was home and safe.
“I’ll always be here for you,” Colin murmured as he softly ran a hand over his little girl’s barely there hair. “No matter where you are, or how old you are. When you’re a grumpy teenager who wants nothing to do with her dad. When I’m old and you’re the one pushing me around. When you don’t think you need me anymore. I’ll still be here. I’ll always be here.”
Colin’s eyes began to water once again at the thought of what he had seen today and he quickly wiped away the tears with his spare hand. “You’re my absolute world,” he whispered to sleeping Millie. “You’re everything to me. I’m so lucky to have you, Millie Zabel, and I would do anything for you, anything you want me to,” he wiped his eyes again. “And I’ll never let anybody hurt you.”
He pressed a kiss to her sleeping head, before getting up and heading to his own room where you were waiting for him, making sure to leave the door open a crack so he could hear if his little girl needed her daddy.

I wanted dad!Colin to be a happier fic but this was the first plot which came to mind and I thought it fit some of what I wrote in my headcanons about Colin being protective

FATE part 2 💙
Colin Zabel x ex fiancé
Summery:Colin and y/n finally encounter each other in a strange twist of fate.
I sat inside my car, lighting a cigarette as I parked in front of my parents driveway. I know my mom was in there wondering why I wasn’t coming up- I just needed a moment before the shit storm was about to start.
My mother had called me that morning to make sure I got the rental car they had sent over alright. Leave it to my parents to treat me like I couldn’t do a damn thing for myself anymore.
I watched as my sister, Janice, opened the front door and walked briskly towards me. I threw the cigarette out the window, even though I knew she could smell the smoke regardless.
“Get your ass inside, what are you doing out here-it’s freezing!” She shivered into her brown coat. I smiled politely, knowing she was about to be the kindest person to me in that house.
‘I’ll be right in, just mentally preparing,” I laughed inwardly but I was really crying inside.
“Moms in a great mood, c’mon it’ll be fine.” I huffed, wanting nothing more than to turn the car back on and drive off- but instead I opened the door and exited the vehicle. My sister met me with open arms. Her hugs were always the best. She was the most amazing big sister in the world. She had the perfect husband, the perfect twin boys, and even the perfect Black lab, Buxley. God, Colin loved Buxley, and when Janice had called to tell me she had puppies last year I wanted nothing more than to have her save one of them for Colin.
She had never asked me why I had called off the wedding - she knew in her heart that I did it for my career and for Colin. She told me once that she thought I’d done a horrible thing to such a sweet man, but that she completely understood. I’m not sure if it made me feel worse or better.
We walked to the front door and I took a big breath before opening. My nephews, Alex and Reid were at the dining room table playing checkers, my dad coaching them both. They were 10 and loved board games more than anything in the world, mostly because they were highly competitive- especially with each other.
“Hey Aunt y/n,” Alex yelled from the table as I entered my childhood home. The smell of Italian food flooded my nostrils. Leave it to my mother to cook a giant Italian meal the day before thanksgiving.
My dad gave me a polite wave, and I smiled back. He sided with my mom for sure, but he also didn’t care as much about appearance as my she did.
Speak of the devil, as soon as my name came out of Alex’s mouth my mother rushed out from the kitchen.
“Finally!” She hugged me quickly and squeezed my shoulders, looking me up and down.
“You look thin- and not in a good way.” She cocks her head to the side and examines me more. “And the bags under your eyes could be designer!” She laughed at her own joke, but I rolled my eyes and shrugged her tiny hands off of me.
“I’m healthy as an ox, and I didn’t wear much makeup since I was traveling today,” I looked over at Janice and gave her the Death glare- moms in a great mood my ass.
“Janice help me in the kitchen while your sister gets settled in!” Mom waltzed back into the kitchen.
I called out that I was going to grab my bags from the car. I walked back out the front door, turned my car on and decided that Instead of getting attacked by my family any longer I was going to the police station to start on my piece on the Erin McMenamin case.
I walked into the station, shivering. I hadn’t bothered putting the heat on during the drive here, mostly because my blood was boiling from my mothers rude comments and clear distaste for me after almost two years of supposedly ruining her life. Wasn’t it my wedding I called off, and my fiancé that I left? God she infuriated me at times.
“Hey, I’m looking to speak with Chief Carter.” I shoved my hands in my jacket pockets and the desk officer looked me over, probably looking at my overall existence like my mother had.
“And you are? Is he expecting you?” The officer gave me a questioning look. I know this small town, and not a lot of random people came in to ask to speak with the chief.
“Yeah my name is Y/n and he’s been waiting for me for a while,” I lied. Years in this work I noticed that telling people that you were showing up without an appointment usually got you a swift kick out the door.
“Alright, I’ll take you right to him.” The officer got up from the desk slowly. You could tell he was annoyed that he couldn’t just sit there and stuff his face with donuts all day. I smiled politely and followed him down the hallway.
“Chief, Mrs….”
“Y/l/n” I called out with a small smile. I inched myself further in front of the door, ready to put up a fight I know was coming. Chief Carter appeared at the door looking between me and the desk officer.
“Mrs. y/l/n is here for you,” he patted me on the back before walking slowly back to his desk. Chief huffed, he was wondering how the hell I’d gotten back to his office since he was clearly not expecting anyone.
“Hi Chief Carter, my name is Y/n, I’ll get right to the point. I’m a reporter for..” before I could finish Chief Carter was already closing the door. I pulled my arms up, stopping the door from slamming in my face.
“With the WASHINGTONN POST, and I think that the Mcmenamin case is the ideal case to have as much media coverage as it can get.” I finished. The door was now open and Carter looked down at me.
“We don’t need more coverage, we have our own paper here in Easttown, but thank you.” He sounded tired, and clearly annoyed with my presence.
“Look, I’ve read the papers’ piece of this case. It’s poor grammar and lack of any sort of police and detective commentary is concerning. To put it lightly, it looks like you’re doing nothing, and by the comments I’ve been hearing around town it seems like people are catching on to that.” I gave my best smile and the Chief sighed heavily.
“Alright, but what will change with this case by writing about it in the post?” Carter questioned me. He let go of the door and crossed his arms- I was getting somewhere.
“It would spread this case far and wide- I’d make sure to add your detectives thoughts and if anyone widespread knows of anything they’ll let your station know. The post is very popular, so it’ll make this case a top priority. Not that I need to say more but I’m a local from the town over- so I promise you I’ll take the best care of reporting only facts and keep Easttown in my best interest.” I wasn’t lying, this case struck a cord in the place I had once held so close to my heart. Chief Carter stared at me. He was deciding on what route to take. He finally decided on trying to slam the door in my face, but yet again I stopped it with my hands and this time pushed it towards him. I was being ballsy, but that was the only way I knew how to do good at my work. Although it wasn’t usually a police chief I was bargaining with.
“You can either point me in the direction of the case detective so I can get information from them, and work WITH you to get the most accurate story, or you’ll have one hell of an annoying reporter that won’t give up and who may or may not shine a generous light towards your police officers and small town station. Your choice chief.” I narrowed my eyes at him and he sighed. He took a few moments before speaking.
“You know, I really have a distaste for big shot reporters around my small town station. You’ve got all eyes on you from here on out. You don’t talk to the town, you speak only with our detectives to gather your information. It’s the only way I’m letting you go down that hallway to Detective Sheehan’s office. Do you understand me?” His voice was smooth, and the way he worded his request seemed like a threat. I nodded slowly and gave him a pearly white smile. I hated who I could be at times when I knew it was the only way I was going to get what I needed. I had just became his biggest pain in the ass, and I’m almost certain this Sheehan character was going to think I was just as big of an ass pain.
“Yes, Sir!” I saluted, and Chief Carter pointed me in the direction of Detective Sheehan’s office.
“There is one detective on this case from our office and a county officer that’s assisting. Marianne Sheehan’s our own, and her office is down the hall to the left - good luck.” He chuckled a bit as if he thought me going to her office was funny. Great, she’s probably an old bitch with zero interest in what I had to say.
I thanked him and confidently strode down the hallway, my dirty white converse squeaking down the hallway. I licked my chap lips and looked down at my attire. The ripped jeans and chunky brown sweater under a very old black puffer jacket was not what I imagined myself in when I took on this job. I probably should have waited until after Thanksgiving, but I couldn’t bare spending any more time than I had to with my family at the moment.
I pulled my hand up to the door, but before I could knock, a woman swings open the door angrily.
“What do you want? I can see you standing in front of the door. Its tempered glass, genius.” I already pissed her off.
“Marianne Sheehan?” I asked quietly.
“In the flesh. What do you want?” She was chewing loudly on a piece of gum. I actually felt quite comfortable in my choice of clothes after seeing what she was in. I could see the coffee stain on her ivory shirt clear as day. Plus the smell of grape vape juice could be detected from a mile away off her old plaid over-shirt.
“Chief Carter send me down here to your office. I’m here with the Washington Post, covering your case on Erin Mcmenamin’s murder.” I dug my hands into my coat pocket.
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” Detective Sheehan closed her eyes and sighed. I could tell she was clenching her teeth as she held the bridge of her nose.
“I don’t know if you’ve read the Easttown Paper’s take on this, but frankly I assure you I will make your department look much more invested than they have. Plus, with the internet- who even gets the paper anymore? The Washington Post will have this case spread all around the Country. I’m not here to be a lice in your hair, I’m here to help,” I knew this woman needed a drink more than she needed my speech about how I was going to help her lead the case to success.
“You can come in, just don’t be annoying and ask me 50 questions right now. Also don’t call me Marianne.” She threw her pen down on the desk and sat down. She put her head in her hands for a moment before looking at me.
“Can I at least ask you what you prefer to be called?” I laughed and sat down in front of her. She didn’t think I was funny.
“Detective Sheehan, and I suppose you’ll be following us this afternoon?” She rolled her eyes as if it was second nature to her. I smiled back, trying to kill her with kindness.
“It depends on what there is for me to write about there?” I questioned her. She sighed and told me that they were looking for the bullet that had been part of their investigation. I pulled out my notes on my phone and typed out this information.
“Any other information you’re willing to give to me right now?” I asked eagerly. She was a bit of an unpleasant and sour broad, but she was pretty informative and clearly knew I was there to do my job as much as she was.
“Look, you’re going to have to work for this information just as much as I am. I’m fucking pissed you’re even here. First a County Detective, now a reporter following me like flies. You feed off people for your own per…” She was cut off by the ringing of her cellphone. She picked it up and quickly answered.
“What?” She was clearly as abrasive to everyone as she was to me, so that gave me a bit of peace. “Okay, yeah I’m held up in my office with some dumb big city reporter. Be there in a second,” She didn’t even bother looking to me to see if I was offended. I just looked down at my phone and smiled. I was just some dumb big city reporter. The best fucking one she was ever going to meet.
“Alright, if you promise to write a piece better than the local paper- and actually spell my fucking name right I can let you come to the scene with me and let you have some information I know the publics been askin for.” I nodded and jotted in my notes ‘SHEEHAN -Can’t fuck that up.’
“I have to head to the scene. You can ride there with Detective Zabel.”
The blood ran cold in my body.
“Detective Zabel…?” I felt like my soul left my body, why did that come out of my mouth, what if I had heard that wrong. I felt so sweaty, is this what having an anxiety attack feels like? He was a country detective now… I had only googled his name every week. I drank yourself into oblivion when I found out he was the one who had cracked a case that had the media buzzing - a missing teen, of course the perfect Colin Zabel found a missing fucking kid.
“Yeah, he’s the county Detective on this case with me. He’s a real… treat.” Mare raised her eyebrows at me as she slid her old gray jacket over her body. I got up somehow, even though my legs felt like they would give out at any moment.
“Speak of the devil,” Mare nodded towards the door, and I felt myself involuntarily turn my whole body to the exit and entrance of the small office.
His smile instantly fell, his jaw was slightly ajar as if he couldn’t believe he was seeing me as much as I couldn’t believe I was seeing…him.
I felt my eyes widen in horror and I looked at the man I had been dreaming about for almost two years. My ex fiancé.
“You good Zabel?” Sheehan’s voice broke my stare and it clearly did for Colin as well.
“Yeah, hi. It’s been a while,” Colin’s soft voice filled the room. Detective Sheehan scoffed.
“You know her?” She asked looking between the two of us. Yeah we knew each other.
“Um, we uh… we went to high school together actually,” I filled in the blank for Colin as he stood there-white as a ghost. I can’t be doing this to him. I’ll call the post and tell them to reassign me to something fashion related instead. I mean I clearly need to learn something in that field.
“Great, you can catch up on the drive to the scene then. I’m out.” Detective Sheehan walked by us quickly and the room felt heavy as it was just Colin and I left. I swallowed the bile creeping up in my throat.
Colins sat down heavily in the chair I had occupied moments before. He gently placed his coffee on the table and refused to look at me.
“What are you doing here, Y/n?” He said softly, almost a whisper.
“I… I got assigned to write about the Mcmenamin case while on holiday. I’m gone in a week.” I managed to talk, which surprised not only me but Colin as well. He shot me a look of horror.
“A week?” His voice was no longer a whisper.
“You’ve spent a lot more than a week with me, I think you can handle it.” I retorted, annoyed that he was that angry to see me. I had to understand, but the sad sappy girl inside me played this scene VERY differently in my head.
“Yeah, sorry. I’m just.. wow I didn’t ever expect you to be here.” He ran his hands through his hair, and I wanted to grab him in a hug. He was so gentle, and I missed that about him. I suddenly wanted to know if he was seeing anyone. I made a mental note to figure that out during the week I was here. I don’t think I could handle it if he had moved on. I know how bad that sounds, but seriously I couldn’t.
“I have my car parked out front, I’ll just follow you to the scene I.. I know you don’t want me here. I’m so sorry. I never would have taken this case if I knew you were in it as well. You have to trust me on that,” I talked soft and slow. I wanted him to understand that I didn’t mean for this to happen.
“It’s fine, you can ride in the squad car with me. It’s safer that way.” He got up from his seat and let out a breath. He avoided eye contact, but I couldn’t help but need to look into those brown eyes.
“Colin?” My voice seemed to have calmed his nerves and he looked at me, his eyes finally landing on mine. Now they were not as mysterious as they had been for all those years. They were still dark and dreamy, but now they were clearly filled with pain, hurt, and sadness. I did it again, I re-opened a wound he was so desperate to close. I’m so great at fucking everything up for myself, but now I realize I was fucking everything up for the one person in the world who truly didn’t deserve it.
“I am so sorry,” My voice cracked and I realized I wasn’t talking about being here and reporting on his case. I was talking about everything that came before that.
“Yeah…” He stood there, eyes searching mine. “Let’s get going, Mare’s waiting.” He wasted no time, I stood there for a moment in shock. I had to be dreaming this encounter.
“You joining me?” Colin asked at the door. I smiled politely and apologized before following him out the door.

There's barely anything showing up on IG about Evan right now. It's that bad!!! We need you Evan!!
But, I have a few thoughts about Evan. And you know how some people are like really intelligent, but have no common sense? Well I feel like Evan absolutely has both. Of course we already know he is a creative mind. But, what I have read about him and incorporating backstory into his characters (i.e the scars on JPM's back cause his dad was a monster and the cross Colin Zabel wore that can be seen in the last scene with him), he obviously is very intelligent but also it's like details are not lost on him. I can see him being like "ok, JPM's dad was cruel, what can we do to elevate this backstory, got it, scars from him getting beat"
And I can see him being resourceful. Like ok "I need to mimic Dahmer's odd posture, what do I do here. Oh yea I have arm weights, that will work." I mean, I can't speak for all of us, but I would have not thought about doing that at all. Like maybe afterwards or 10 years later. Maybe. I feel like if we were deserted on an island together, Evan would know what to do.
Plus him being so kind and obviously worships his SO's and is loyal. We are looking at a very well rounded individual. And man, I'm glad Im a fan of his, but I really wish I could experience thee Evan Peters. I feel like he's an experience. That I would like to have.
you bring up great points and i love to hear you guys’ thoughts like this 💗 i agree, it’s especially interesting to see the personal touches evan has made to characters backstories and personalities that we know made all the difference. you can be a very talented actor and not be able to do that, but evan has the depth and emotional intelligence to be able to.

As the rain pattered quietly down, blanketing the world in a graceful sort of serenity, I emerged from the bedroom I shared with Colin. The whole house was quiet - at rest for once - all signs of the chaotic life we shared together still and calm. My sock-covered feet moved soundlessly as I went to fetch a glass of water, but as soon as I reached the doorway to the den, I was met by the warm glow of an incandescent bulb.
Colin must still be awake. I smiled softly at the thought of my husband falling asleep in the armchair he so often occupied. The poor man worked so hard and took so little time for himself. As my silent steps rounded the edge of the armchair, however, I noticed Colin hadn’t fallen asleep alone.
Instead of a mound of papers in his lap, there was a small bundle all wrapped in a soft yellow cloth. Colin’s arms were wrapped protectively around our blanket-swaddled daughter, making sure she was secure even in his own comatose state. Even now at eight months old, she still looked so small in his strong arms. A small smile stretched across my lips at the sight of them.
Colin had been so afraid that he’d be a bad dad, but he’d had no reason to worry on that front. From the day we’d brought our daughter home from the hospital, he’d been exemplary. He’d read so many books about parenting and had asked advice from his mother, so pretty much every situation that arose was something Colin was prepared to handle. Each time he looked at her, his eyes sparkled with joy.
“She’s so little,” he’d murmured in wonder as he let her grab at his finger with her tiny hands. “Don’t worry, little one. Daddy will always protect you and mommy. You’re safe.”
As I watched the two of them quietly sleeping in the armchair as the rain drizzled quietly down, I couldn’t help but think of those quiet moments between father and daughter. His combat-ready hands cradled his baby girl so softly, wanting nothing more than to protect the little life that we’d created. I didn’t want to disturb either of them, so I got a soft blanket from the side and draped it around Colin and the tiny bundle in his arms to keep them warm. He stirred momentarily with a murmur of our daughter’s name, sending a wave of mushy feelings surging through my heart.
Colin worked so hard to be a good father. He was so dedicated to her future and to making sure she was alright. How could I do anything less than love him with my entire being? I made sure he was covered securely with the blanket and that our daughter was supported safely, then placed a soft kiss on his forehead.
The last time I’d tried to get Colin out of this position, he’d looked so distraught about having to let go of his daughter that my heart almost shattered. So, this time I snapped a quick picture of the two of them so he could see it later, and I left him to sleep. In the morning, I knew Colin would be happy to wake up to his daughter’s sweet little smile. He wasn’t just a good detective - he was a great dad, and it was moments like this that proved just how amazing he was.
