Little Bird
Pairings: Dad!Bang Chan x reader
Genre: Angst with comfort, fluff, domestic
Warnings: None
W/c: 1485
A/N: I highly recommend the song 'Little Bird' by Jonas Brothers. This story is highly inspired by that song. Hope you like it! I nearly forgot I had this in my drafts ToT
It was just past 3 AM, the house wrapped in the stillness of night. You stirred in your sleep, sensing an unusual emptiness beside you. Slowly waking, you reached out, but the space where Chan usually lay was cold.
Concerned, you slipped out of bed and padded softly down the hallway. As you neared the living room, the faint sound of music reached your ears. Curious and slightly worried, you peeked around the corner.
There he was, sitting on the couch with your newborn daughter cradled gently on his chest. Chan's eyes were closed, tears streaming down his cheeks as he held her close, listening to "Little Bird" by the Jonas Brothers playing softly from his phone.
The scene before you was so tender, so beautiful, that it brought tears to your own eyes. You quietly walked over and sat beside him, resting your head on his shoulder. He opened his eyes and looked at you, a mixture of love and joy filling his gaze.
"She's perfect," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I can't believe she's ours."
You smiled, wiping a tear from his cheek. "She is," you agreed, placing a gentle kiss on your daughter's tiny head.
Chan let out a shaky breath, his tears falling freely now. "I never knew I could feel this much happiness," he said. "It's overwhelming."
You wrapped your arms around both of them, feeling the warmth and love radiating from your little family. "We're so lucky," you whispered.
As the song played on, the three of you sat there, basking in the pure, unfiltered joy of the moment. Chan's tears of happiness mingled with yours, a perfect reflection of the love and gratitude you both felt for the little life you had brought into the world.
In that quiet, intimate moment, nothing else mattered. It was just the three of you, together, bound by a love that would last a lifetime.

Little Picasso
Chan x Reader (fem.) Genre: Dad! Chan, Established Relationship, Fluff, Slice-of-life Warnings: none! (mention of word “sh*t”), somewhat proofread WC: 3.8k A/N: I had so much fun writing this! Might make a series of dad!skz. Feedback is always welcome, enjoy! ── MASTERLIST
────────────────────────
He had assured her.
The night before, the morning of.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be fine.”
“Go have fun with your friends. You haven’t seen them in forever.”
It was true. After Mimi was born, Y/N had been so preoccupied with the new chapter of motherhood that her outings had become sporadic, sometimes happening just once a month.
Her husband would urge her, “Babe, please go have some fun with your friends.”
Sure, they had date nights. Chan and she would frequently make time for each other while leaving their daughter in the care of either his parents or hers. Even though her mind would often wander back to thoughts of their toddler, Chan managed to keep her focused on their evening together, allowing them to enjoy each other’s company.
But when it was just her, when she managed to escape to do something she’d always enjoyed, things that didn’t involve errands, lists, or a child on her hip, all Y/N could think about was Mimi.
She wouldn’t say she was a helicopter mom. She wasn’t always trailing behind Mimi. But with their almost four-year-old inheriting her father’s chaotic nature whenever she got a bit too hyper, she couldn’t help but worry. When Mimi got excited, she would spiral out of control, often taking hours to calm down from her sugarless high.
Her husband was different. Bang Chan was always an anchor, level-headed and approaching things in his own orderly but calm fashion, making sure nothing bad would happen at all times. So, while some might think he would handle fatherhood similarly, he was different in that regard. Although he’d always keep a sharp eye out for dangerous situations, he wouldn’t always rush to the rescue as soon as Mimi cried. Instead, he would observe, waiting to see if she was truly hurt or if it was just a reaction to shock. Chan was the type to let Mimi try things that might result in her crashing to the ground or things around her crashing to the ground.
“It’s all life lessons. She’ll learn from them and approach things with more caution next time.”
While it was true that Mimi would tackle her failures with a more gentle approach, the worry never left Y/N.
But still, here she was, rethinking her decision about attending a brunch her best friend from college was hosting to kick off her wedding events. She already knew she was going to be included in her friend’s bridal party and would be honored to be a bridesmaid. Yet, on the morning of the event, she stood in front of her closet, staring at the dress she had set out the night before, filled with doubt.
“Maybe I should tell her I can’t make it?” She questioned, turning to find Chan in the middle of getting dressed.
“Babe, you can’t flake on her. You promised you’d be there.” He shook his head, reminding her of her best friend’s stern phone call warning that she’d better show up.
She sighed, hands resting on her hips, knowing she wouldn’t be able to actually not show without a guilty conscience. Chan came up behind her, wrapping his arms around her and resting his head on her shoulder.
“We talked about this. Everything will be okay here in your absence.”
She turned in his arms, meeting his soft gaze.
“I know, but I can’t help but worry. Every time I’m out alone, all I can think about is Mimi. I know she’s safe with you or our parents, but she’s become such a handful lately. I worry sometimes.”
Chan couldn’t disagree. Mimi was becoming a walking disaster, and even he felt anxious from time to time. But he was more concerned that if she continued to overthink, she might become overbearing and overprotective, which wouldn’t be good for either Mimi or herself in the long run.
“It’s part of growing up. She’ll get hurt, she’ll break things. But, even though she’s a little reckless, she’s such a good girl.” There was a proud glint in his eyes, and both his words and gaze convinced her for now.
“I should start getting ready then.” She sighed.
“Can I watch?” Chan mused, stepping back and eyeing her figure.
“Like you don’t already.” Y/N retorted with a roll of her eyes, earning a chuckle from him as he lounged back on the bed.
It was still early, and Mimi was still asleep in her room. She had well over two hours to prepare before she needed to head out, so there was no rush.
“She had too many of those snacks last night, so please don’t sneak some onto her plate.” She ordered, applying makeup while glancing at Chan through the dresser mirror.
He chuckled and nodded. “Got it.” He remained lounged back, supporting himself with his palms against the mattress.
“And the rug. I’m still worried about it… maybe we should put it—”
“Babe, relax. The rug looks great where it is. It’s been three days, and it’s still pristine.” Chan assured.
Which was true. Y/N had been contemplating for two weeks whether it was a good idea to place it out. She had been hauling it in and out of its spot for the better part of the week before Chan got tired of her indecisiveness. The rug was one of those wedding gifts she had forgotten about until she rediscovered it rolled up in storage. Still wrapped, still new and soft.
She sighed, grabbing her blush compact.
He was right. She was probably overthinking. Mimi understood when she told her to be careful on the rug. She even started tiptoeing on it to avoid ruining it.
Truth be told, Y/N was probably more nervous about seeing her group of college friends she hadn’t seen in forever. Besides her best friend, many of the group were much like herself. Married, with children, busy with their jobs and life. It had become harder for all of them to connect frequently. Her best friend’s celebration was a great excuse to bring everyone back together and have some time for themselves, which they hadn’t had in what felt like forever.
Chan noticed the unconscious smile that spread across her face as she thought about brunch. He was glad. She had been jittery since last night, planning her absence as if she were leaving for a vacation and not just a few hours.
“Which color?” Y/N asked, turning in her seat to hold up lipsticks for him to choose between.
He pondered for a moment before pointing at the right one, only for her to use the other. It still made him laugh, a cute habit of hers that she had ever since the two of them began dating. He still made a choice every time, knowing 9 out of 10 times she was always going to choose for herself anyways.
“That one is too pink.” She muttered, smacking her lips together, satisfied with her choice.
The sound of footsteps running across the floorboards growing closer made them both turn to the door, where their daughter made her entrance for the day, bedhead and all. Mimi ran into her father’s awaiting arms, still sleepy-eyed.
“Morning miss Mimo.” Chan chuckled at the sight of her, clearly pleased that she had slept well.
“Mommy looks pretty.” Mimi complimented with a groggy hum, watching her mother through the mirror, just like her dad had.
Y/N smiled, ready and all, standing up to show off her flowy dress.
“It’a green, your favorite color. Do you like it?” She asked, twirling around to reveal the cute pattern.
Mimi nodded, her eyes lighting up.
“I wanna wear a green dress too mommy!” She’s excited now.
Both Y/N and Chan laughed, and Chan patted down Mimi’s messy hair.
“Let’s take a bath and then get into our pretty dress. We do have a pretty green dress, right?” He’s looking at Y/N.
She nodded, and Chan immediately stood with arms outstretched for their three-year-old to jump into.
It isn’t until Mimi was getting into the bath, Y/N popped into the bathroom, fully ready to leave.
“I’m gonna head out now baby.” She said, her hand gently brushing Mimi’s cheek before she turned to Chan.
“Call me if anything happens. And remember—“
Chan leaned in and pecked her lips, cutting off the barrage of instructions she had been about to give.
“We’ll be good.” He said with a reassuring smile, turning to look down at their daughter, who was already distracted by the bubbles in her bath.
“We’ll be good, right Mimo?” Chan asked, and she responded with an enthusiastic “yes!”
Her loud “bye, Mommy!” echoed several times as she splashed in the water. Y/N walked out, calling back a “bye” before finally heading out the door.
As she stepped outside and the morning sun hit her, Y/N felt a wave of relief wash over her.
────────────────────────
“Okay Mimo what should we do today?” Chan leaned against the counter, having just cleaned his daughter’s face from the remnants of their breakfast.
“Snackies!” Mimi wriggled in her seat, pointing towards the cabinet where her mother usually kept the snacks, out of her reach.
The father chuckled, dropping his head. If he stared at her face any longer, he might cave and actually give her the snacks, which he was specifically instructed not to.
“You just ate baby. Let’s do something else, hmm?” He ignored her slight pout, picking her up under one arm and hauling her into the living room like a purse. Her fit of giggles was immediate, a distraction that worked like a charm.
The first hour of their morning was spent watching one of those random cartoons Mimi had stumbled upon one day and had become obsessed with since. Chan watched intently, trying to make sense of the random storyline and wondering why his three-year-old wasn’t confused by what was going on.
By the second hour, Mimi had moved on to clattering her toy tea set loudly in the living room. Chan glanced up every few minutes from his place at the dining table, busy with some work on his laptop but keeping an eye on his daughter. When the clattering stopped, he looked up to find Mimi staring at the TV, almost hypnotized.
“Daddy! Paint!” The child shouted, running to him and tugging at his hands to bring him to the television.
He looked at the bright screen, trying to understand what had his daughter so excited. Mimi was jumping at his side, tugging on his hand. Chan placed his phone down on the coffee table and turned his full attention to the television, his brows furrowing as he tried to make sense of what was happening.
A puppet dressed as a painter stood in front of a canvas with “Picasso’s Corner” messily painted on it.
Great.
Chan wondered how he was going to distract her this time. He knew she was even more excited about painting because she had recently been given a paint set from one of his close friends, which she hadn’t had a chance to use yet.
Stupid Hyunjin, Chan thought.
But as he glanced down at Mimi’s pleading puppy eyes, he immediately caved. He couldn’t blame himself. He was already heartbroken from the first time he had ignored her request for snacks. How could he deny her this fun activity that she was so excited about?
So, Chan cleared the dining table, spreading newspaper across it to protect the wood from any potential spills, which were bound to happen, even if the paints were labeled as washable. Mimi was beaming in her seat, wriggling with excitement and holding brushes in both hands. Chan chuckled at her enthusiasm, handing her one of the mini canvases that came with the kit.
“You excited Little Picasso?” He laughed, tearing away the plastic and packaging from the bottles of paint.
Another nickname added to Chan’s list of endless, adorable things he called his daughter. Even Mimo came from their game of hide-and-seek, which was strictly called “Finding Mimo” in their household.
“Yes! So excited!” Mimi’s eyes were wide, and her grin was the biggest Chan had seen in a long time, melting his heart with her adorable expression.
True to her new nickname, Little Picasso dove right in, her brush creating blobs and streaks of green, red, and yellow on the blank canvas. Of course, the paint quickly spread to her fingers, the newspaper, and even her face. Chan noticed the splatter on her dress and quickly checked the label on the paint bottle to confirm it was indeed washable. He sighed in relief when he saw that it was.
“Daddy, blue please!” Mimi handed him an unopened bottle still covered in its film.
As Chan began to unwrap it, twisting open the cap and removing the silver foil inside, his cell phone rang loudly across the room. He strided over to the coffee table, setting the opened paint bottle that he unconsciously brought with him, down and quickly picked up his phone.
It was a call from his friend, and Chan was already distracted, walking away from the table, and the paint bottle, and the white rug underneath it all. His eyes were fixed on the television, which continued to play in the background while he and Mimi had started their painting activity at the dining area.
Mimi’s eyes widened as she watched the blue paint bottle tip over from the wind of Chan’s swift turn, spilling its contents into a bright pool beneath it. The vivid color began to trickle down onto the rug, leaving a streak of blue that spread across the white and seeped into the fur.
The toddler gasped, sitting up in her chair.
“Daddy!” Mimi’s voice rang out, her paint-smeared fingers covering her mouth in surprise.
Her shout made Chan look at her, his eyes widening as he took in the sight of her paint-splattered face. But quickly masked in confusion, as he followed her gaze and was shocked to see the blue puddle spreading across the rug he swore wouldn’t get ruined anytime soon.
“I’ll call you back.” He muttered into the phone.
Chan rushed to the table, grabbing the blue bottle, now slippery with paint. His frantic hands tried to contain the spill that was freely flowing over the edge of the coffee table.
“Shit.” He grumbled.
“Shit—Mimo, pass me a paper towel, please!” He shouted over his shoulder, watching as the toddler scrambled to get out of her seat.
But as Mimi climbed out of her seat, the paper plate that Chan had used as a makeshift paint palette fell to the ground with a splat.
“Oops.” The child muttered, glancing up to look at her father, who bit back.
“It’s okay baby” Chan said, trying to keep his voice calm despite the growing chaos. “Just bring Daddy the paper towels, please.”
He wasn’t sure what he was trying to salvage at this point. The bottle had already emptied its contents onto the table and the carpet. All he was really doing now was playing in the mess, his hands and forearms smeared with blue paint.
Mimi handed him the paint-stained paper towels, finger-prints from her own messy hands. The toddler eyes filled with curiosity as she watched him dab at the remaining blue pool.
“Mommy’s carpet is messy.” She stated the obvious, her feet squishing against the blue liquid on the furry rug as she played in it.
“I’ll clean over there!” She announced, grabbing some paper towels and running toward the mess she had made back there.
“Mimi wait—”
But of course, she didn’t stop. Her blue footprints marked every step she took. Chan could only watch in dismay as the mess spread and his daughter, now resembling a walking paintbrush, continued her impromptu cleanup.
He inhaled deeply, trying to keep himself calm.
“I’m freaking screwed.” He muttered to himself.
────────────────────────
She hummed on her way back, feeling light and refreshed after a delightful morning with friends and the emotional moment of being asked to be her best friend’s bridesmaid. Y/N was glad she hadn’t canceled, as it had been a much-needed breath of fresh air. Plus, she had learned a surprising lesson about motherhood that morning.
But when she entered the house, which was eerily quiet except for the distant animated voice from the television, she narrowed her brows in confusion.
“I’m home!” She announced, trading her shoes for house slippers.
Before she could even make it past the threshold, Chan slid to a stop in front of her, arms extended to block her path. Y/N stared at her husband in surprise. Parts of his face was smeared in blue, his fingers stained with what used to be paint.
“Please don’t be mad. I’m sorry.” He pleaded, a guilty expression all over his face.
The stunned wife slowly narrowed her gaze, nudging past him. “What happened—”
And she didn’t get to finish her sentence. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight. Blue splashes covered the rug, vibrant against its white fur. There were blue footprints and red and yellow handprints on the dining table, the chairs, and even the tissue roll holder. Streaks of spillage marked the dark floorboards, cleaned haphazardly.
“It’s my fault. I put the paint on the table and got distracted, Mimo didn’t do anything.”
Mimi, who had been sent to another room and instructed to count to one hundred, decided she had counted enough. Although she struggled to recall numbers beyond thirteen, she had given up trying to continue. After hearing the mention of her name, she stepped into the living room, observing the quiet, tense atmosphere with big eyes.
“Is daddy in trouble?” She asked, her small voice full of concern, even though most of the mess was unintentionally her doing.
Y/N turned to find her daughter, now more of a mess than when she had left her. It was clear Chan had tried to clean her up, but she was still stained with paint.
Washable my ass. Chan had muttered, once he had realized the paint wasn’t coming off easily.
Chan thinned his lips, attempting a smile at the toddler, but his eyes stayed anxiously fixed on Y/N.
It wasn’t until Y/N laughed, fingers covering her mouth to stifle her loud cackle at the ridiculousness of the situation, that Chan stood there dumbfounded.
He swore she had finally snapped, that her patience had broken. That she had finally lost it.
“Oh baby, look at you!” Y/N crouched down, arms outstretched for her three-year-old to come into.
Mimi ran into her mother’s arms, mirroring her laughter.
“Are…you not upset?” Chan questioned, still not fully convinced.
Y/N glanced back at the rug, then back at her husband.
“Should I be? I mean, it already happened. There’s not much we can do about it now, can we?” She smiled at the child in her arms, lifting Mimi’s jaw to take in her paint-streaked face up close.
And she was laughing again.
Her words echoed Chan’s usual calm demeanor, but coming from her, they made him nervous. He stood silent, unsure of what to make of her reaction.
Sensing his continued worry, Y/N stood and walked over to him, examining him as she had Mimi.
“You two look like smurfs.” She said, stifling another laugh as she took his stained fingers, drawing his knuckles closer.
He sighed, gripping her hand gently.
“You’re really not upset? I know you were really worried about that rug.” He seemed disappointed in himself, upset that he couldn’t prevent the mess.
Y/N shook her head, smiling as she looked back at the ruined rug.
“Not upset, I promise.”
Chan wondered what had brought this sudden change in her demeanor. He was sure she would have berated him with “I told you so’s” or remained silent until her disappointment simmered down. That she would have regret ever leaving.
“I learned something at brunch today.” Y/N said as she returned to Mimi’s side, starting to undo the buttons of her dress for a proper cleanup.
“All my other friends were telling me about their children and the havoc they caused. I was surprised that our Mimi was an angel compared to the tales I heard.” The mother laughed.
“Then thinking back to the disasters our daughter caused, I realized our Mimi isn’t reckless, she’s just a little clumsy.” She looked up at Chan, who raised an eyebrow.
“That’s what I’ve been telling you for so long.” Chan said, though he sounded slightly bemused.
Y/N shook her head. “Yeah, I wasn’t fully convinced.”
Chan sighed, crossing his arms over his chest, still smiling.
“But you better clean all of this up.” She added, her brows furrowing with the stern expression Chan had expected much earlier.
“Yes ma’am, I’ll leave this place spotless.” Chan nodded.
While the parents talked, the toddler got closer to the painted rug, crouching down to see if the blue had dried, much like the smudges and streaks on her face and her dress. But it hadn’t, and she stared at it on her finger.
“Shit!” She exclaimed loudly.
Both parents snapped their heads toward Mimi. Chan, who had momentarily forgotten in his earlier state of frenzy, of how impressionable his daughter was, gulped nervously. He could feel the hot glare his wife was shooting him, too scared to meet her angry gaze.
“I-it was the creepy Picasso puppet.” Chan attempted to lie, though it was obvious it wouldn’t work.
Her raised brow and crossed arms were clear indication of it.
“Hey, at least she used it in the right context.” Chan continued, trying to lighten the mood, his wife only stared at him in disbelief.
“Clean. Now.” Y/N ordered, walking over to pick up her Little Picasso for her second bath, with the tell-tale signs of another cheesy grin on her face.
Seeing which Chan also broke into a grin.
“Wash me next!” He couldn’t help but laugh, rushing after the mother-daughter duo, his wife playfully pushing him away with a nudge of her arm.
And even though Mimi’s painting skills were what her father liked to call “abstract,” the little canvas of her red, yellow, and green blobs was definitely a family portrait according to Chan, was hung proudly in her parents’ room.
“A colorful disaster that captured the essence of our family. Our Little Picasso is a genius!”
Again, a proud father’s words we might have to fact check. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ end.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas...
Pairing -> Dad!Bang Chan x fem!reader WC -> ~3,300 words Includes -> lots of fluff, so domestic, dad!Chan with twin girls, Christmas activities, implied female reader, brief mentions of pregnancy, baking fights Summary -> Now that your twins are 4 years old, it's time to pull out all the tricks for Christmas morning. The memory making for Chan and you starts when the kids go to bed, the two of you preparing for the morning to come. Author's Note -> I couldn't help but write a Christmas Chan fic. He was the perfect one for it. I'm a big softie for dad Chan. He would be so sweet. So, I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did! I spent all Christmas morning writing it! Happy Holidays! ♡ Masterlist ♡
You close the pink painted door softly behind you and immediately smile at your husband. He's standing beside you, hand covering his mouth, trying his best to hold in his giggle. His eyes sparkle with excitement. You guys have had this night planned for weeks, wanting to get it right. Your twin girls are turning 4 this year, and that means it's time to step it up. You guys want the Christmas magic to stay alive for as long as possible, so you need to start strong. There has obviously been lots of presents from Santa during previous years, but you both decided that it's time to really go all out now that they are starting to become more aware of the festivities of the Christmas season.
The whole thing had been Chan's idea, of course. The poor guy had been absolutely smitten with his daughters since they were born, and now they truly had him wrapped around their fingers. In fact, you guys have just managed to put them to sleep after reading not 1, not 2, but 4 stories to them, Chan eventually helping them beg you for the fourth one; it was his favorite, too, after all. He loves to read it to the girls, making them laugh at all the silly voices he creates for the different characters. He even softly sings some of the lines to them, which always results in your babies falling right asleep. They try to deny it, but their dad's voice always manages to put them right to sleep, their eyes falling closed and soft snores leaving their mouths. At that point, you practically have to drag Chan out due to him always wanting to curl up right next to them and make sure they are safe while they sleep. It's one of the things you adore most about your husband. He would do anything for your girls.
The two of you tiptoe away from the door, in hopes not to wake them up for it takes an awful long time to put them back to sleep. Chan reaches down and grabs your hand, pulling you to the living room even faster, unable to wait any longer to start on the Christmas fun.
Your house is decked out in decor from floor to ceiling, both of you in love with the festivities of the holiday season. It had been another night a few weeks before when the two of you had stayed up until the early hours of the morning, decorating the entire house for your kids to wake up to in the morning. Chan had been so excited when hearing their little feet pitter patter on the hallway outside their rooms that he had immediately sprung up to see their reactions. Just like you had expected, their little eyes lit up and they were amazed by all the lights and tinsel strewn around the house. Chan had made nearly the same face the night before after everything had been set up. You adore seeing all the little characteristics they inherited from their dad. Even though it was quite annoying hearing people mention how much they look like him after you carried them for 9 months, but Chan was never too cocky about it.
When you get to the living room, you pull away from Chan, plopping down on the tan couch covered in fuzzy Christmas blankets and throw pillows. You let out a large content sigh after a long day of seeing different family and friends for the holiday. Christmas day is reserved for your small family and grandparents. You had managed to come home by 7, but there were still many things to do; this included having to bake cookies, which lead to an unfortunate flour fight and the kids staying up way past their bedtime. Now, it's 9:30 pm, and all you wanna do is cuddle up with Chan and put on a silly Hallmark Christmas movie. He complains every year, but you know he secretly loves them.
Feeling you let go of his hand, Chan looks at you and gives you sad puppy dog eyes and pouty lips.
"But we need to set up all the stuff for the morning," he reminds you, eager to get started.
"I know honey, but it's not even 10 yet, we have tons of time. Plus we still need to clean up the kitchen from your little baking fight."
Chan laughs at the memory of your two children, absolutely covered head to toe in flour. They sneak chocolate chips from the bag as the two of you finish up, sticking the cookies in the oven. Bath time was a whole event today.
"I know, I'm just excited," he tells you as he approaches the couch. He lays his hand on your cheek, tilting your head up. He leans down, placing a kiss on your forehead.
You blush slightly, as he whispers, "I love you," his words still having the same affect even after all these years.
"i love you too."
He pulls away and turns around, heading into the kitchen.
"Wait, where are you going?" you ask him, confused. All you wanted was to rest a minute and maybe have a cuddle or two.
"I'll clean up the kitchen, you just close your eyes for little while. It's been a long day. I'll wake you up when it's time to start getting everything ready for the morning," he explains, sending a wink your way. You laugh at his antics and let him go clean up the kitchen.
You start to get comfy on the couch, excited to take a few minutes to yourself during the busy holiday season. You hear muffled music start to come from the kitchen. You smile upon hearing the familiar tunes of traditional Christmas music. Chan can never work or clean without music playing, but you guess the love for music aligns well with his career. You've never been one to say no to music, although it did take a while for your love for Christmas music to grow. You have Chan to thank for that one. Your eyes fall shut, the soft sounds lulling you to sleep.
~~~
You start to stir due to fingers lightly threading through your hair. You open your eyes to see the same excited, brown eyes you wake up to every morning. He smiles when he notices you're awake. You can tell he has something to tell you simply from his body language. You have gotten to know everything about each other and there's little you don't notice. He shifts slightly as he kneels next to you, anxious to get the information out.
"I cleaned up the kitchen, but I've got a great idea," he says. You roll your eyes in fondness, as you sit up to make room for him on the couch. He sits down next to you, pulling your legs into his lap. He can't keep things from you for long. You're his favorite confidant. He often comes home from work and spills everything that happened. You're always the first one to hear new songs, your kids always the next in line to hear their dad sing with his band.
"It'll be messy, but I promise it'll be worth it. The girls are gonna be so amazed," he says, trying to convince you. It doesn't take much for you to agree with him, since your kids are easily impressed.
"Okay, I think it's been long enough, I doubt they're gonna wake up any time soon. Show me what you got Christopher," you say, sparking an instant reaction in the man. He shoots up from the couch, rushing to your shared bedroom. You laugh as you notice him slow down to tiptoe past the kids room before going back to his mission. He comes back, just a couple minutes later with a large pair of boots he must have dug through your closet to find. They are probably from a concert he had years prior. Chan had probably liked the boots a little too much and begged the stylists to keep them.
"What in the world are you gonna do with those?" you ask him, genuinely curious. This was one of the few times where you had no idea where this conversation was heading. That wasn't too surprising though, considering how creative the man is. He sets the boots gently on the floor, careful not too make too much noise in fear of waking the girls up. They aren't necessarily light sleepers, but a chunky pair of boots hitting the wood floors would definitely make them rouse from their beds. He heads back into the kitchen to retrieve God knows what.
He comes back out with a giddy smile on his face, and the culprit for the earlier mess in his hand. Flour. You chuckle, immediately realizing what his idea entails.
"You're a genius," you say, shaking your head with affection.
You stand up, taking the flour out of his hand and placing it on the coffee table.
"This is gonna have to happen last though. We don't wanna mess it up before morning hits." He nods his head in agreement.
"Let's get the presents out and then let's worry about the cookies," Chan suggests. You head into your bedroom together, heading to your secret hiding spot for the presents. You open your closet up, a place your kids don't normally get into. You immediately take notice of how some of the presents have been shuffled onto the one side of the closet. You hold in a laugh upon realizing Chan had to shove the presents aside in order to grab his black boots. You carefully grab a few of the presents and Chan grabs a few more, always eager to show off the muscles he works hard for in the gym.
You head back into the living room, placing the presents under the tree. You had made sure to wrap each of the girls' presents in different wrapping paper so it would be easier for the four year olds to tell which present was theirs.
Eventually, the both of you have stacked up the presents under the tree, resulting in an impressive sight of gifts. Your little girls will be unable to contain their excitement at all the wrapped toys. A lot of them had to be similar due to their tendency to fight over toys. You are still trying to teach them sharing, but they tend to struggle with it a little bit. Chan has gotten good at sorting out the fights, being able to pick out the right words to say in order to stop the arguing. Unsurprisingly, he just has that leader quality about him that makes people listen to what he has to say, especially his two kids.
As your admiring the plenty of presents, you spent more money than you'd like to admit on, you barely notice as Chan leaves the room. He comes back with something behind his back and it quickly draws your attention. You notice the small wrapped gifts behind his back and smile. There had been a year where you guys had decided not to get each other anything, but you have been unable to ever go through with it. Chan tends to go all out for Christmas gifts and so do you, so there was no shot at trying to hold back. He simply goes to the side of the tree, pretending like he doesn't know you had seen him. He sets the three variously sized boxes down behind the gifts for the children. You decide to grab the gifts you had gotten for Chan in the morning, knowing there is bound to be a time when the girls will be distracting him enough for you to sneak them under the tree. He had been complaining about his computer lately, groaning in frustration when it would glitch or run out of battery too quickly. So, you had gotten him a nicer one for Christmas, especially since he uses the thing so much. You know he'll love it and you're excited to see his reaction. He'll thank you for days, even weeks, after.
Since the presents are all settled under the tree, you head into the kitchen, grabbing the plate of still warm chocolate chip cookies the kids left out. They were getting overtired, so you had promised them you would place the cookies where Santa could see so he could have a treat on his journey across the globe.
You make your way back into the living room to see your husband swaying gently to the Christmas music, still playing from when he had been cleaning up the kitchen. He's texting on his phone; you assume it's one of the boys considering he always seems to be texting them about one thing or another. You set the cookies down on the coffee table and walk behind him. You wrap your arms gently around his waist and go onto your tiptoes, hooking your chin over his shoulder.
"Who are you texting?" You ask with no malice in your tone, just simple curiosity. He smiles, leaning back gently into your touch.
"Felix was asking about what our plans were for tomorrow. He wanted to come over to see the girls and give them their gifts," he says. You're sure that by the end of the night tomorrow, a few of the boys from his group will have stopped by. The girls love them, especially Felix and, surprisingly enough, Seungmin. He entertains them little, but the man has somehow caught the kids' hearts.
You nod against his back as he turns his phone off and places it back in his pocket, giving you his full attention. He places his hands over yours, and you hum in content, completely and fully happy with the life you're living. One of Chan's hands grips your wrist and he spins out of your hold. His grinning face now looking back at yours. He pulls you in gently by the waist, his body still swaying to the beat of the music. You wrap your arms around his neck, quickly catching onto his aim here. In the background, "White Christmas" plays, one of your favorite Christmas songs, a fact Chan is all too aware of.
He starts to gently lead you in a slow dance, a tradition the two of you have followed since the first year you were married. You had still been in your honeymoon stage when it had started, getting married just a month before. It was your first Christmas Eve together as husband and wife, and in the middle of baking cookies for a family gathering the next day, Chan had asked you to dance with him. Since then, you have slow danced every year on Christmas Eve to various Christmas songs. It has slowly but surely become one of the main things you look forward to within the holiday season. He dances with you on other occasions, but for some reason, it feels so much more special when the only light comes from the soft glow of the Christmas tree, muffled Christmas music fills the room, and the smell of cookies wafts throughout the house.
You spin slowly around the room, ensuring not to step on Chan's feet. Your fingers gently play with the hair on the nape of his neck as your head lays on his chest. His fingers have found their way to your slightly raised shirt, softly rubbing the exposed skin along your waist, causing goosebumps to erupt on your skin. He never fails to have the same effect on you even after 6 years of marriage and two children.
You hear Chan start to softly sing the tune, and you get lost in the sound of his voice. Your eyes closed, appreciating the delicate moment between the two of you.
However, as the song nears it's end, you are quickly thrown out of the calmness. Chan runs his hand up to the dip of your back, holding you gently there, as he attempts to lean you back in what he hopes to be a romantic dip. It turns out to be a dramatic fail, as you lose your footing due to the surprise and he tumbles to the ground with you. You both land on the soft rug which blankets both of your falls, keeping either of you from getting hurt. Chan immediately panics, terrified he hurt you. You quickly reassure him, knowing how worked up he could get over this.
Before long you're both in a heap on the floor, unable to control your laughter. You giggle softly in his neck as he hugs you, still trying to keep relatively quiet, not wanting to wake up the girls who are sleeping in just a room over.
"Alright we have to get started on everything else. It's getting late," you whisper in his ear, aware that Chan would lay here with you forever if he could.
He slowly gets up before grabbing your hand, helping you to your feet. You make your way back over to the cookies.
"Alright, do you want a bite of the cookie, or do you want me to?" Chan questions.
"You can take the bite," you say, remembering how excited he had been for this whole thing. Not to mention you had snuck a cookie when Chan had tried to gather the girls up for bedtime.
He takes a bite, humming at the taste. He sets the cookie back down on the plate after making sure the perfect amount had been bitten off. It has to look like Santa had taken a bite of it the night before. Next, your eyes land on the glass of milk next to the plate. He nods to you, and you drink half of it so that it is noticeable that someone drank some.
Once you set the glass down, Chan excitedly hands you the flour and grabs his boots from where had set them down earlier. He only puts one on at first, but you remind him that Santa would make footprints with both feet and he rushes to put the other one on.
You bring the flour over to the fireplace and dump a tiny bit on the brick that extends a little out from it. You spread it gently with your hand, rubbing the excess on your pants. Chan steps straight onto the flooring, pushing down, to ensure a footprint will appear. He steps away and just like you had expected, a pair of big boot footprints show in the flour, facing away from the fireplace. The two of you make a path of footprints leading to the cookies, then to the tree. The flour looks as if it were snow brought in from outside. Chan's boots made nearly the perfect replica of Santa's footprints.
You stand back, admiring your work, knowing the girls are going to freak in the morning.
"You're definitely cleaning that up in the morning," you tease him with a laugh despite knowing he would do it without you even having to ask.
You work quickly as a team, putting all of the evidence away, before getting ready for bed. You were both already in your matching Christmas pajamas, you had bought for your family this year. The girls were just as eager to wear them as you were. Chan had pretended to hate it at first, but you knew he was just messing around. He secretly adored doing all the silly, cringy family things you asked him to.
After brushing your teeth and washing your face, you crawled into bed with him. You lay your head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat rhythmically in your ear, lulling you into a deep sleep.
Before you slip into unconsciousness, you whisper out, hoping your husband is still awake, "Merry Christmas, Channie."
"Merry Christmas, Darling."
𖥻 my darling
♡┊ 𝐂𝐇𝐐𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄 ; bangchan
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 :: chan enjoys some time with his family
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 :: none besides very cute chan
Chan was walking up and down the practice room with his son in his arms who was sobbing his little heart out. Jun was 8 months old and such a sweet boy but sometimes he got a little bit fussy when his mother wasn’t there. Chan bounced the little boy slightly while kissing his son’s head whispering sweet nothings in his ear. You asked chan to take care of Jun for today so you could go out with your daughter and chan obviously agreed. He knew how hard it was for you to mostly take care of your son and Daughter and chan. He appreciated how you would make him dinner when he worked longer and always put a cute note beside the dish.
Chan heard the door open and Felix walks in holding some strawberries in a tiny bowl. Jun turns his head to Felix looking at the bowl with his big brown eyes. Jun was basically a copy of his father from the tiny curls on his head to the soft freckles on his cheeks he even has a similar lip shape, Although chan insisted that Jun has your nose. “Thank you Felix” chan said softly sitting down on the sofa with Jun in his lap his tiny body resting against his chest. Jun recently found his new love for strawberries so as soon as he saw the red fruit in the bowl his tears stop and he makes grabby hands to his uncle.
Felix smiled down at the tiny boy. While Chan holds his son to make sure he doesn’t accidentally hurt himself, Felix held out a tiny peace of strawberry. Jun stared at it before slowly grabbing the fruit in his little fist, he opened his tiny mouth and shoves the fruit in giggling when he tasted the sweet flavour. Chan smiles down at his son as Jun moves his arms around wildly. “Is it tasty baby?” Chan ask in a high pitched voice making Jun squeal his tears now long forgotten. Felix hands Jun another strawberry but instead of eating it himself like the last one Jun holds up the fruit to chan looking at his father with wide eyes. Chan’s heart melted “is that for me junieee” he said in a shocked voice. Jun shoves the peace of strawberry against his father’s mouth to signal him to eat it. Chan smiles and takes the peace of fruit nibbling on his son’s fingers to tease him.
Jun whines at his father’s teasing and makes grabby hands to his uncle, Felix waisted no time and took the little boy in his arms and hands him the bowl with strawberries. Chan smiles at the cute interaction between his best friend and son, he thinks it’s cute the way his son holds Felix finger in his tiny fist while shovelling tiny cut strawberry in his mouth. The door opens and chan watches as you and your daughter walk in the room his daughter quickly making her way over and cuddling in his chest “Daddy we went shopping and mommy got me new hair clips look” Mira points at the butterfly hair clips that sit in her braids. Chan smiles and kisses her cheek “you look beautiful Mimi” he tucks a curl behind her ear and kisses her forehead.
Jun had lost interest in his half empty bowl and was now completely engrossed in the sight of his Mother as he stares at you. You lean down and take Jun in your arms pressing kisses all over his cheeks. Jun was giggling loudly his tiny hands on your cheeks. Chan was staring at you in complete awe as Mira sat beside Felix and telling him about her new hair butterfly clips. Felix praising her and telling her how pretty she looks. Chan stands up and walks to you putting his arms around you and your son. You could see that Jun was getting sleepy so you patted his tiny back while humming lowly. Chan presses a loving kiss on your lips.
You let yourself get distracted by your husband’s lips until you heard your daughter scream “ewww daddy and mommy are kissing…no kissing you’re only allowed to kiss me” she said proudly pointing at herself. You and chan laughed. Chan kneels down and opens his arms for his daughter who didn’t waist a second to rub in her father arms snuggling into his comforting warmth she knew so well. “Let’s get home baby I think someone is tired” you said kissing Jun’s cheek. Jun nuzzles is head further in the comfort of his mother. Chan agrees and after saying good bye to Felix you both went home.
When chan opens the door to your home carefully pushing it open with his foot his sleeping daughter in his arms while you carried Jun. While you went to change your son into his clothes being careful to not wake him up chan did the same to mira carefully putting her in her bear pj’s, before putting her in her bed making sure to cover her in her favourite blanket. Chan turns on her night light that was shaped like a moon before slowly leaving her room. He doesn’t fully close the door in case she has a nightmare. When Chan walks into the kitchen he sees you standing in front of the Stove cooking dinner for you and him, he couldn’t help but smile even if you weren’t wearing any makeup and your hair tied in a messy bun wearing only his oversized sweater you where still the most beautiful woman in the world to him. So he slowly moves towards you and puts his strong arms around your waist nuzzling his face in your neck enjoying your natural scent. You hum and turn your face to press a kiss on his nose making him laugh shyly. Chan loves your affection because you don’t need to talk much and understand each other without much words. “Go sit down Darling dinner is almost done you need to eat” you said softly nudging him towards the table.
Chan complies easily and sits down his eyes following your every move in case you needed his help. You walk over to the large table and put down a bowl noodles in front of him and some chopsticks beside it. Chan smiles at you and leans over to press a sweet kiss on your lips as a thank you. Suddenly chan hears his son’s soft whines for attention so he quickly gets up and walks over to where Jun had previously been sleeping, he carefully picks him up and holds him secure to his chest before making his way back to you. You’re looking at Chan with so much admiration while holding your arms out to take your son from him “give him to me Darling you should eat” you said while taking your son carefully from him. Jun quickly calming down when he notices his mother holding him, you take the pacifier from the table and offer it to your son. Jun quickly starts to slowly suck on the pacifier while his tiny hands are busy playing with the material of the sweater you’re wearing.
Chan watches as you entertain your son while eating his dinner with a smile on his pretty lips.
STORY UNDER THE CUT
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
Chan was a regular at your cafe. And by regular you mean he comes by every day, 3:12 pm sharp. You would be stupid not to notice him; he’s too beautiful for his own good. His dark brown curls rested peacefully on his forehead, blissfully unaware of the effect they had on you, and his chiselled jaw looked like it could cut through diamonds. It didn’t matter if he was wearing a T-shirt or a coat, you could see his well-built body even through his clothes. He just looked so dreamy to you, and maybe that’s why you were thinking about him on your Sunday shift. One of the two days that he doesn’t come by the cafe. It was hard to wake up at the ass crack of dawn at the weekends long before Chan started going to your cafe. But ever since he first showed up in a black sweater and his hair unruly, asking for an iced americano to-go, waking up for your weekend shifts was even harder.
“You need a coffee.”
Snapping your head up quickly, you smiled at your friend tiredly, “Thanks, Hwa. Just what a girl needs at 9 am on a Sunday.” You quickly started making his drink to wake up at least just a little bit.
“I’m just saying,” he shrugged, “you probably haven’t gotten many customers anyway. Had a long night?”
You turned around with a fake scandalised look on your face, making him laugh. “You make me laugh, Park Seonghwa. I have a child to take care of!” you cried out jokingly, flailing your hands around. It made him look around the cafe and ponder on how far you’ve come. He had known you for quite some time now, meeting you at one of the many college parties his friends dragged him to. Back then this cafe was real only in your imagination, and he can remember the mental picture of the cafe he had when you first told him about your dream quite well, seeing as it was standing right in front of him. Well, besides the autumn decorations on every surface imaginable. He felt proud of you, and he would come to this cafe even if the coffee sucked.
“I know, babe, but don’t you think you deserve to at least go on a date? And before you say something,” he put a finger up, making you turn back around, “maybe you can ask a hot customer, ‘cause I know damn well you don’t go anywhere other than your flat and the cafe,” he looked at the back of your head pointedly.
You keep your eyes trained on the coffee in front of you as you think of a certain customer. Obviously, you’ve thought about asking him out, but what if he was taken? He seemed to be older than you, and honestly, it would be a crime to leave that man single. And the second problem was even worse; you couldn’t for the life of you function properly when he was just on the other side of the counter. Yes, that may be because you haven’t felt the touch of another human being in quite some time, but you told yourself that it was just because of his stunning looks to keep your sanity.
“Your coffee’s ready,” you turned around, smiling at him sarcastically.
“You really don’t wanna talk about it, huh?”
“No, not really.”
He looked at you plainly in silence before softening up. “Just hit me up once something happens, please. Or even when nothing happens. You know that our door is always open for you, y/n.”
“Of course, Hwa. We still have to plan the sleepover, anyway. Now shoo before the Sunday brunchers start coming,” you laughed, and it made him check his watch.
“Oh god, I left Wooyoung in the car alone for fifteen minutes.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
3pm on an October Sunday had never felt as good as that day. Cleaning tables after a long day of being alone at the cafe mixed with your playlist playing softly in the background sounded like music to your ears. Even though it wasn’t by far the busiest day that the cafe had lived through, it felt like it. Your Sunday part-time worker texted you yesterday evening that he got the flu and could barely even stand up, so you told him to get well soon and then cried for an hour, like the responsible boss you are.
After you finished cleaning up, you set the cleaning timer on all coffee machines to 4pm, turned off all the lights, put on your coat and grabbed your stuff. Stopping the music, you looked at your phone, only to see 3:10pm written on it. That means you can still catch the earlier bus without running to the bus stop and then start that series you’ve been itching to watch half an hour earlier. You add a little skip into your walk to the door, opening it. Just as you stepped out, a body stepped right in front of you. Yelping, you step back slightly, looking up at the stranger who wanted to come into the cafe, only to find Chan standing right in front of you, in that black sweater of his that you saw him in for the first time.
He took a step back. “I’m so sorry! Are you okay?”
You nodded at him with a laugh, “yeah, of course. I’m sorry, too. You just really scared me.”
He then looked at your hand, which was holding the keys to the cafe, and then inside the building behind you, seeing the lights off. His expression falls and a little frown makes its way onto his face instead. “You’re closing? I thought you were here ‘till 5 today.”
Your expression fell too, “oh my god. I forgot to put up the autumn schedule on Google,” he giggled a little at your expression, “in autumn and winter, we close at 3pm on Sundays. I’m so sorry, this is totally my fault. Do you still want coffee? The machines are not going to start the cleaning process until 4, anyway.”
He interrupted you with a laugh, “you really don’t have to apologise, it’s nothing. But, um,” there was some hesitation in his voice, “but would you, maybe, no pressure, really, I don’t want you to feel like you have to, um.” He looked down at his feet and then back up at you with a nervous smile. “Would you want to go somewhere? With me. If you’re not busy, obviously.”
You laughed out of shock, “Oh, um. What? I mean, really?” He smiled, his dimples on display, and nodded.
“Yeah, sure. Sure, I would love to.” Were you dreaming? “Do you want to go in, then? O-or-”
“No, no, I was thinking maybe, um, get street food and just go to the park around the corner? Because I don’t want you to spend time making something? Actually, scratch that, that’s just plain and stupid, maybe I should plan something fancier,” rambled Chan, combing his hand through his hair.
“No, I think that sounds good,” you said, maybe a little too quickly, “I mean, uh, yeah. Sure, sounds good. Perfect, even.”
“Okay!” There was that smile with the dimples.
“Okay,” you smiled up at him sweetly, “oh!” Turning around, you locked the door quickly before turning around. “Shall we, then?”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
The food wasn’t necessarily good, but you would honestly eat worse if it meant you could spend more time with Chan. You were sat on a bench, a first date friendly distance between your bodies. You’ve gotten to know random things about him in the past hour and a half; he is 30, just seven years older than you. You also found out that he works in the local firm that’s ten minutes away from the cafe, which is why he comes to the cafe at the same time every day, and that he likes to make music with his friends. What mattered to you more, though, was how attentive and awfully nice he was. Paying for your food, walking on the outside of the sidewalk, and actually listening to what you had to say came to him naturally.
“I’m sorry, y/n, but I’ve gotta be somewhere at 5, so I’ll have to go,” he exclaimed after laughing at your previous statement. His words made you check the time on your phone, seeing that it was, in fact, nearing 5pm.
“Oh, wow, I didn’t even notice it was already 5. Time flies by when you’re having fun, I guess,” you giggle at the hopeful look in his eyes once you said you had fun.
“I had fun today, too, y/n. I’m glad you had time for me. I’ve been meaning to ask you out for a while now, and I’m happy I finally managed to do it. You’re a great person and even better company,” he stood up and look at his feet, red tinting his ears.
“Chan,” you started, also standing up, “could I get your number before you go?”
He looked back up at you for the second time that day. He thought you wouldn’t want anything more with him, maybe just chatting when he gets his coffee, but that’s about it. He let his insecurities cloud his judgement. He thought you were the one who saved this date from being a complete disaster, not knowing that this was the sweetest date you have ever been on.
Maybe this whole dating thing isn’t as hard as he remembered it to be. Or maybe it’s just your presence that’s making it easier for him. He doesn’t know, but he thinks exchanging numbers with you could be a good idea.
And as you part ways with him, he waves at you with a giddy smile, dialling the 3racha group chat. You wave at him with a giggle and a bright smile, calling Seonghwa quickly.
“You won’t fucking believe what just happened.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
It’s been almost a month since your first date with Chan. And to be honest, you were in deep. You have been texting him almost all the time, and every time he would come by the cafe, he would stay a little longer, just to see you smile. You’ve gone on different dates in the past month, but your favourites were probably the museum and the aquarium date.
But today marks the day of the biggest, and in your opinion the most important, date so far. You will be going to a respectable restaurant, dressed in your finest clothes. Seonghwa told you, that he thinks Chan might finally ask you to be his girlfriend, something you aren’t too sure of. Sure, you’ve fallen for him, and you would love to think he’s in the same predicament as you, but your overthinking mind cannot help but worry.
Especially since he texted you at half past ten in the morning that he can’t go on a date today, because his work will probably keep him busy until late at night. So, you texted him that you understand and that you hope he doesn’t stay in too late, and then took a break to cry in the breakroom. Your mind was screaming at you from every corner of your brain. Why are you crying over this? It’s nothing personal, you’re sure, Chan wouldn’t do that to you, but you can’t help but worry. What if you are just another girl to him, while he is the main topic of your conversations with your best friend?
Trying to push those thoughts away, you got up from the floor and cleaned up.
At least your part-time worker doesn’t have to close by herself, you tell yourself to feel better about this whole thing.
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
Chan felt like an asshole. He accidentally put his daughter’s recital on Saturday instead of Friday in his calendar, so he made plans with you. Turns out, the recital is, in fact, not on Saturday. His daughter was talking about it all the way to the kindergarten, all while he was silently cussing himself out. What is he supposed to tell you? Oh god, what if Jisung and Changbin can't come today? Nari would probably stop functioning if she saw two empty seats next to Chan. And then her teacher, who already didn’t like Nari for some reason, would be mad at her. This was bad.
Then he remembers that he’s talking about Changbin and Jisung, the two guys who were by his side every step of the way. They wouldn’t miss Nari’s recital for the world.
You, on the other hand? He was planning on telling you everything today at dinner; from his daughter to his feelings for you. And now he had to call off the date. Driving to work had never seemed this long. His mind was running through all the possibilities. He wasn’t stupid, he knew he should’ve told you sooner. Chan was just too scared to say anything. You were probably the best thing that’s happened to him ever since the death of Nari’s mum. What would he do if he fucked this up, too?
Brushing it away as best as he could, he texts you that he won’t be able to make it to the date due to work and that he’s sorry. Because he truly was, and all he could do was hope that you wouldn’t take anything personally.
Thankfully, his day at work went by quickly. Nothing out of the ordinary popped up, and so he could leave peacefully at 3 pm. He really wanted to see your smile and get coffee, but he knew he couldn’t, so he drove past the cafe to Jisung’s place, where he would be picking him up. Thankfully, Jisung lived quite close, so the drive didn’t take too long. Chan pulled up to his friend’s house like he had a million times before, unlocking the car as he saw Jisung standing there.
“Hey, Chan,” he greeted enthusiastically, receiving a greeting back, “you excited?”
“Hell yeah. This is Nari’s biggest recital so far. I just hope everything goes well.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
“Excuse me, sorry, excuse me, sorry,” he muttered as he passed people to get to their chairs.
Changbin looked at all the parents around them, “Gods, when did these people even get here? I thought we were gonna be the first ones here.” He received an enthusiastic nod from Jisung.
“Well, we were, but then Channie hyung just had to talk to Nari’s teacher,” Jisung rolled his eyes jokingly.
“Sorry I care about my daughter.”
A beat of silence passed through the group. Changbin and Jisung held eye contact with raised eyebrows until Jisung averted his eyes to look at Chan, “you okay?”
“Yeah, of course, why wouldn’t I be?”
All three of them knew he was fucked with that response.
“Is this about y/n?” Changbin asked, already knowing the answer.
The lights started to dim, “we’ll talk once the recital ends.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
He stood up, clapping proudly as he looked at his daughter. She waved at him with the biggest smile on her little face, and he knew he had to make things right. He turned to Jisung. “Could you go to Nari? I have to talk with Bin.”
Jisung nodded sombrely, seeing as he wanted to hear this conversation, but ran off happily to his niece.
Changbin sighed, “so, what did you do?”
And so, Chan tells him. Changbin knew that he hadn’t told you about Nari, but he didn’t know Chan wanted to tell you today. Chan tells him how he lied to you, and how it’s slowly eating away at his conscience. And mainly, he tells him, “I don’t want to love her, Bin. I don’t like what that means to me.”
“What do you think it means, Chris?”
“It means I have something to lose again, and I’m not strong enough for that anymore,” he whispers harshly.
“Well, if I can, I’ll tell you what I think it means,” Changbin started, “I think that means having someone who can help you bear all your problems. It means having someone who is here for you all the time. But mainly, it means having someone who loves you unconditionally, Chris. And from what you’ve told me, she’s great at all of these things. And she would probably be great with Nari, too. Nari would love her,” he paused, wondering if he should say it, “Nari will love her. But you gotta let her.”
“But, Bin,” Chan tried to reason.
“We both know she would want you to be happy. And if that means being with y/n, which I personally think it means, then she would want you to be with her.”
Chan finally looked back up from his shoes to his friend. Chan knew he was right. Changbin was always right. But what about you? Would you even want him?
“Stop overthinking and go tell her how you feel, please. I’ll cry if you don’t,” Changbin joked.
“But Nari-” Chan began, only to get interrupted.
“We’ll take her home. Go make things right,” he replied, pushing Chan to the entrance of the building. Chan only smiled before he took off, taking long strides to his car.
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
You sighed as you wiped down the last table. It was almost 5 pm, which meant you were closing for the day. It wasn’t your normal schedule, but it was the annual maintenance day, so your customers knew about this.
All you wanted right now was a tub of ice cream, a cheesy romance movie to make you feel even worse, and three boxes of tissues to cry into. You knew this was stupid to cry about; after all, it was just a cancelled date. But what if this was just one out of many? Maybe he just didn’t want you anymore, or he never wanted you in the first place.
And maybe you could just cry over a man on a random Friday night.
You stopped the playlist sombrely, turned off the lights, and grabbed your things, seeing it was eleven minutes past five. You were supposed to be sitting in the best restaurant in the city right now.
A ring of the bell above the cafe’s door interrupted our train of thought. “Sorry, we’re closed for the day,” you turned around, only to see him standing there, dressed in that damned black sweater of his.
“Chan,” you breathed out, “what are you doing here?”
Chan froze for a second. He was finally here, after sitting in the traffic for ten minutes. He had plenty of time to think about what he was going to say and do. Problem was that he forgot all of it the moment he saw you. And so, his heart took over. He took quick steps towards you. He stopped just short of you.
“I’m so sorry, y/n. I need to tell you so much, but first I want to apologise. I haven’t been truthful with you in every aspect and,” he took a breath,” I’m just so sorry. Could we sit down?”
And as he told you about his late wife and his daughter Nari in one of the cafe’s booths, you felt like a complete asshole for overthinking this. Of course he didn’t tell you, dumbass. You wouldn’t tell yourself either. A few minutes of silence were all it took for you to realise what Chan had just said.
“Chan,” you started, trying to find the right words as you stood up, “be honest with me right now, please. Do you see this thing between us going somewhere serious? I get that you lost your wife a few years ago, and I’m really sorry to hear that. And I get that you have a daughter, so you probably won’t want her to meet me this soon or anything, but-”
He kissed you.
He kissed you, and it felt like all the tension from your shoulders fell right between the two of you and then dissipated into thin air. His kiss felt like a breath of fresh air although you were losing your breath slowly, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Your hands found their way around his neck as his hands traced your waist, bringing you even closer.
You then parted; you were both breathing heavily, but Chan’s face had that dimpled smile you’d fallen for.
“I’m sorry, I just had to shut you up, y/n,” he giggled, “I do see this going somewhere and I do want you to meet Nari as soon as possible, because I don’t think I can handle another day without letting you know I love you. I love you, y/n.”
The smile you had on your face could probably brighten any of Chan’s dark days, and he just wanted to kiss you again.
“I love you, too, Chan.”
“quick” drabble about dad!Chan
Fluff | Masterlist
you get home, exhausted and pissed at everything and everyone. But the moment you see the light in your daughter, Cory and your loving husband, Chris' eyes, when they’re shouting happy birthday to you, the second you walk in, the weight lifts off your shoulders. you're home, home to them, the two people you love the most in the whole world. Chris bends down to pick Cory up and lifts her up on his shoulders. He groans, "ah, you're starting to get too big for this, C" he chuckles slighty and greets you with a kiss on the lips. "happy birthday, my love. we baked and ordered your favorite!" you chuckle, "yeah, I can see that," you look over his shoulder, into the kitchen, dirty with flour everywhere. "sorry about that, we uh- couldn't decide which cake to bake and this little devil," he tickles Cory's feet "decided that the flour looked way better in my hair than in the bowl." "it's not my fault you couldn't remember mom's favorite cake." Cory pouts "It's alright," you chuckle, "I'll clean it, just start eating, I'll join you in a bit" you take off your jacket and head towards the kitchen, but Chris grabs your wrist. "you, are not lifting a finger on your birthday, especially not after a nine hour work day"
You pause for a moment and just look into his eyes, and then sigh, "you're right, work was horrible. but I forgot all about it, the second i walked in and saw those beautiful eyes of yours." you smile
"are you talking about these gorgeous eyes, or dad's?" Cory asks, and you chuckle, "I think both of your eyes are absolutley beautiful. you know, your eyes actually remind me alot of your dad when he was younger"
"enough chatting, let's go eat"
-
“And now Cory is asleep,” you say to Chris, standing and washing dishes. He dries his hands and gently grabs your waist, “did it end up being an okay day, even after work?” He looks at you with wonder and worry, “yeah, it was absolutely great,” kiss “Thank you, baby.”
Chris smiles and kisses the top of your head, “I’m glad. You always tell me how terrible Friday shifts are, and I was worried it was gonna be too much.” You nuzzle against his chest, nothing to hear but his calming heartbeat and his arms sneak around your waist.
“Cory is getting so big already. I feel like we got home from the hospital yesterday” he sighs and buries his face in the crook of your neck, his breath tickling you slightly. “You miss having a baby in the house?”
“You know, even through the sleepless nights, tons of dirty laundry and your weird cravings, I do, yeah.” He pulls away from you neck and looks deeply into your eyes, “I really miss it,” his eyes flicks between yours, “I… I wanna have another baby with you, love.”
You blush at the confession. To be honest, you missed it too. And you read on some website for new parents, that kids grow up better with a sibling, and not to mention how great a sister Cory would be.
Chris blushes and blinks a few times “Not that it has to be right now-“ but you simply answer him with a kiss “I would love to have another baby with you, Chris. Now or later, whenever you’re ready”
Chris’ cheeks heat up and he hides his shy smile. “I… I would love to have a second kid with you, as soon as possible. But it’s your choice”
You chuckle, even after 9 years of being together you still have your shy moments. “Cory is sleeping over at a friend’s tomorrow, so we have the house all to ourselves.”
Chris chuckles, “mm, gonna make a baby with you tomorrow”
“How romantic.”
-
Hands locked together as you both stare at the test. The two minutes seems like two hours. The suspense between the two of you, the way Chris holds your hand tightly and the comfortable silence reminds you of 5 years earlier, when you where in the same situation. You had talked about kids and before you knew it, Cory was born, and now you’re sitting here, waiting for the test result, five years later.
“How long?” Chris asks and you reach for your phone, “30 seconds” he brings your hands up to his mouth and gives yours a kiss. “If it isn’t positive, we’ll just try again. I can get my parents or one of the guys to take care of Cory.” He’s right. It wasn’t that big of a deal, why be so nervous? You could always try again. “Yeah,” you sigh “you’re right. I don’t know why I’m so nervous” you chuckle. “It’s alright. I’m nervous too.”
The timer goes off and you take a quick look at each other. Chris’ eyes are filled with love, and the second your eyes meet you can almost see the weight lift off his shoulders. Sometimes you wonder how you got so lucky.
You reach for the test, flipping it over. There it was. A clearly positive pregnancy test. You both stare at it for a few seconds, blinking before looking back at each other and bursting out in smiles. “I’m pregnant, Chris” you chuckle. He pulls you into a hug and kisses the top of your head, “I know, baby, I know.” His voice breaks and you sit there, crying out of joy.
“I love you so fucking much”
“I love you more”
Life-line.
It was silent, except for the
Beep. Beep. Beep.
The sounds of the machine that was keeping her alive. He sat by her side, holding her hands that were once warm.
Anyone could tell that he had been crying. His swollen eyes, his tired expression, his long heavy breaths - he was alone. He miss her and the sound of her voice.
-------
“Chan, do you believe in astrology? ”, she asked , waving his hands about, as they both walked back from the store.
“Eh? I guess not.. Do you ? ”, he was amused at her question, out-of-the-blue.
She hummed in response as they reached their favourite spot — somewhere up the path to their farm house, which gave a perfect view of the sun, slowly descending behind the hills. They were just in time to experience the golden rays.
“you know, one shaman said that your wife will have a short life”. She turned towards him, leaning on the railing.
“Oh, really? ” Chan was amused at her interest. He was never a big believer. Yet whatever his wife loved, he enjoyed.
“Umm and my shaman said that my husband will have a short life when he read my birth chart”, she let out a soft laugh. Probably because of the contrast between their charts.
“Ohh that means that both of our charts negate each other, right? ", he said, grabbing her hand and turning her in for a back hug.
As he hugged her, they overlook the beautiful sight.
“well, if it doesn't negate one another, if there is really a Creator who listens, I wish my long life goes to you and may you live long long looooong”, she quipped, moving her hands in a big circle.
---------
The Creator really listened.
Tears started to fall , as if any were left.
At the way he had been crying, it was a wonder how he was still conscious.
The main door slides open to reveal a worried Minho, a bento box in hand.
“Hyung.. Let's eat something, please. I made you your favorite meal", he said.
His brother had been in the room, for weeks now. Everyone had been mourning her failing health and they had been preparing their hearts and minds for the final day - the day she gets off of life support - well, everyone except for Chan.
“Hyung”
“ she said she wanted to give me her long years so that I could live for a long time.. ”, he gulped down tears. “she threw herself in front of me,Minho..she did that to save me... ”, he looked up to face Minho. Minho was taken aback for a moment at the sight of his hyung. Red , swollen eyes, pale skin, his dimple was nowhere to be seen. He looked weak. He was weak without her. His heart broke when Chan clung on to him and sobbed , painfully so.
-------
“Is this Lee Min Ho? ”, the unfamiliar voice said frm the other end.
“Yes, it is. Who is this? "
“ Minho-ssi, i found your number in the emergency contact. Please head over to the hospital. The owner of this phone had been in a car accident. ”
Minho froze.
They were pregnant.
She was 8 months pregnant and they were coming over to Gimpo , to make him their unborn child's Godfather.
He grabbed his keys frantically and ran out the door.
Upon arrival, the doctors had said that Chan was alive because she took the whole impact with her body, because of which she had fractured her spinal cord and her lungs were punctured. When the paramedics came to the scene, she was found on top of him ; his head pressed against her chest,thus cushioning his impact. She had threw herself in front of him. She took the whole blow to save her love.
“it is difficult rn. She is technically brain dead because of the shock received on her head”, the doctor said.
“Hyung!! Are they okay?", Changbin rushed in with his loud voice , full of fear and concern. The rest of the kids followed him. They had ran all the way.
“She saved our hyung”, Minho looked down as his eyes started to well up.
The kids understood.
------------
There was not much the kids can do, except take turns to try and feed their hyung.
Her parents had come down to see their beloved daughter for the last time. They had been in a state of mourning - more so, for the state of their son-in-law .
“The dead will be gone, but the living has to live, son”, they said when he begged them to forgive him for not saving their daughter, for not being able to taking care of her.
----------
“Chan..”
The voice startled him. Her voice. He could recognise it anywhere. He turned around to see the love of his life, standing at their favourite spot and she was smiling. But it was a sad smile. She was sad.
“Babe.. You have to let me go”
Her voice echoed but he did not heed. He tried to touch her hand, eyes blurry from the tears welling up.
“No.. ” he shook his head.
He could not hold her. But she felt cold.
“Let me go, baby. It's cold out here”, the voice continued.
“Take me with you”. His words, a mere whisper.
“You have to live.. for Isa ”.
Isa.
It felt like he was snapped out of a trance with that name. He looked up to meet her eyes. But she was gone. She had done her part. Reminded him of a reason to live.
Their daughter.
His eyes opened to the sound of the flat line, as the nurse switched off the life support.
All of her beloved stood around her bed, mourning her demise. There, Minho came in the door, this time he did not have a bento box.
He had a beautiful baby, bundled up in his arms.
Chan got up from where he was laid down - he had lost consciousness for a while when he tried to stop the doctors from cutting off his lifeline, his wife. But that part of unconsciousness made him realise the gift she left for him.
As he took the baby in his own arms, the little 3 week old stirred in her sleep.
“Isa”, he whispered.
And the beautiful new life gave a small smile.
“Just like her mother”, the grandma said.
“Yeah, just like her”, he mouthed, smiling at his daughter.
craving dad! channie who wakes up on those nights you’re too exhausted with the baby, slipping into the nursery and cradling your little one in his arms, humming a soft tune.
it’s been a grueling three days since you’ve been discharged from the hospital, especially once the baby officially entered your house, leaving sleepless nights and nonstop crying in tow.
although, your husband was always by your side, constantly taking off work to ensure both you and the baby were okay.
enough to where occasionally you’d have to remind him that you did in fact live with this bundle of joy in your stomach for nine months, and that two hours in the studio wasn’t a death sentence.
of course chan never listened, treating you oh so gentle along with your baby and catering to your every need—whether it’s massages or snuggling up beside you in bed to binge your favorite show.
oftentimes he calls you in the studio, replaying a current track and claiming he needs “my second producer’s opinion” (a.k.a. your baby’s) which, upon hearing a tiny giggle on your side of the line puts the biggest grin on chan’s face.
so as you lean against the doorway, fondly watching your husband rock back and forth despite the visible bags underneath his eyes, you can’t help but wonder what you did to deserve somebody like him.
can you tell the recent video ruined me..? is it that apparent…?
