You had been waiting for this moment for what felt like forever. Being married to Chan was a dream, but the one thing missing was the tiny little miracle you both had been hoping for—praying for. Each month had been a mix of hope and heartbreak, but you never gave up. And neither did he.
Currently, you were visiting him on tour, hoping to make the most of your time together. You had missed him terribly, and seeing him so immersed in his passion—performing, leading his members, giving his all just reminded you just how much you adored him.
After a long day of rehearsals, you sat together in his dressing room, his hoodie draped over your shoulders as he chugged down water, wiping sweat from his forehead. He looked exhausted but still managed to send you the softest smile, one that always made your heart flutter.
"You okay, baby?" he asked, scooting closer on the couch, pulling you against his side.
You hummed, resting your head against his shoulder. "Mhm. Just... my period’s late."
The water bottle in his hand froze mid-air. You could practically hear the gears turning in his mind before he slowly turned to you, eyes wide. "Wait… what?"
You lifted your head, blinking at him. "I mean, I don’t want to get my hopes up, but it’s been a few days now."
Chan shot up from the couch so fast that you barely had time to react before he was tugging you to your feet, holding both your hands in his. His voice was urgent but still gentle, like he was afraid to break the moment.
"Baby, do you...do you have a test with you?"
You let out a small laugh, squeezing his hands. "Of course I do, you know I always carry a few just in case."
"Then let’s do it," he said, already pulling you towards the small washroom attached to the dressing room. "Right now."
"Right now?" you echoed, amused at his eagerness.
"Yes," he nodded quickly, his grip on your hand tightening just a little. "Please. I... I just need to know. And if it’s negative, it’s okay. But if it’s not—" He let out a shaky breath. "I just want to be with you when we find out."
Your heart swelled at his words.
Inside the small washroom, you did what you needed to do, and when you came out, the test was facedown on the counter. Chan was already sitting on the couch, patting his lap for you. You walked over, settling into his embrace as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close, his chin resting on your shoulder.
"It’s okay if it’s negative again," he murmured, swaying the both of you slightly. "We’ll keep trying. I know it’s been hard, but we’re in this together, baby. Always."
You closed your eyes, basking in the warmth of his presence. "I know. I just don’t want to disappoint you."
Chan immediately pulled back, cupping your face so you had no choice but to look into his deep, loving eyes. "Hey, don’t say that," he whispered. "You could never disappoint me. This isn’t your fault. We’re trying, and that’s enough. No matter what happens, I love you, okay?"
You nodded, leaning into his touch. "I love you too, Channie."
A small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he tightened his arms around you. "And, y'know, even if it’s negative…" He nuzzled his nose against your cheek, voice dipping into that familiar teasing tone. "We just try again." His fingers trailed lightly along your waist, making you shiver. "And trying is fun, isn’t it, baby?"
A laugh bubbled out of you as you lightly smacked his chest. "Chan!"
"What?" He grinned, tilting his head. "I’m just saying. No complaints so far."
You rolled your eyes, but your smile was impossible to hide. "You’re ridiculous."
"Mm, but you love me for it," he murmured, kissing your temple before swaying you both again. "And you love how much I love you."
You sighed contently, melting against him. "Yeah, I really do."
A comfortable silence filled the room as you stayed in his lap, his fingers tracing gentle patterns on your back. And then your phone alarm buzzed on the table. You both froze.
Chan swallowed thickly. "Do you want to check, or should I?"
"Together?" you suggested, voice barely above a whisper.
He nodded, and together, you both stood, walking hand in hand to the counter.
Your fingers trembled as you reached for the test, flipping it over—
Two pink lines.
Positive.
Your breath hitched. "Oh my God."
Chan didn’t say anything for a moment. He just stared. Blinked. Processing. Then, his hands covered his mouth, his eyes already glistening with unshed tears as he turned to you.
"Baby… we’re having a baby?" His voice cracked on the last word, full of disbelief and overwhelming joy.
Tears blurred your vision as you nodded, letting out a choked laugh. "We’re having a baby, Channie."
And then you were in his arms, feet barely touching the ground as he spun you around, laughing through his tears. "We’re having a baby!" he repeated, voice filled with pure wonder, pressing kisses all over your face, your forehead, your lips. "Oh my God, we did it!"
You clung to him, laughing and crying all at once. "We did it."
He set you down gently, immediately kneeling in front of you, his hands cradling your still-flat stomach as he pressed a soft kiss there. "Hi, little one," he whispered, voice thick with emotion. "I’m your daddy. I already love you so much."
Your fingers wove through his curls as he rested his forehead against your stomach, his body shaking slightly. "Thank you," he murmured, looking up at you with so much love it nearly stole your breath. "Thank you for being my everything."
You cupped his cheeks, tilting his face up to press a lingering kiss against his lips. "You’re my everything too, Bang Christopher."
And in that dressing room, wrapped in each other’s love, you knew this was just the beginning of the most beautiful chapter of your lives.

Little Bird

Pairings: Dad!Bang Chan x reader
Genre: Angst with comfort, fluff, domestic
Warnings: None
W/c: 1485
A/N: I highly recommend the song 'Little Bird' by Jonas Brothers. This story is highly inspired by that song. Hope you like it! I nearly forgot I had this in my drafts ToT
Tumblr media
It was just past 3 AM, the house wrapped in the stillness of night. You stirred in your sleep, sensing an unusual emptiness beside you. Slowly waking, you reached out, but the space where Chan usually lay was cold.
Concerned, you slipped out of bed and padded softly down the hallway. As you neared the living room, the faint sound of music reached your ears. Curious and slightly worried, you peeked around the corner.
There he was, sitting on the couch with your newborn daughter cradled gently on his chest. Chan's eyes were closed, tears streaming down his cheeks as he held her close, listening to "Little Bird" by the Jonas Brothers playing softly from his phone.
The scene before you was so tender, so beautiful, that it brought tears to your own eyes. You quietly walked over and sat beside him, resting your head on his shoulder. He opened his eyes and looked at you, a mixture of love and joy filling his gaze.
"She's perfect," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I can't believe she's ours."
You smiled, wiping a tear from his cheek. "She is," you agreed, placing a gentle kiss on your daughter's tiny head.
Chan let out a shaky breath, his tears falling freely now. "I never knew I could feel this much happiness," he said. "It's overwhelming."
You wrapped your arms around both of them, feeling the warmth and love radiating from your little family. "We're so lucky," you whispered.
As the song played on, the three of you sat there, basking in the pure, unfiltered joy of the moment. Chan's tears of happiness mingled with yours, a perfect reflection of the love and gratitude you both felt for the little life you had brought into the world.
In that quiet, intimate moment, nothing else mattered. It was just the three of you, together, bound by a love that would last a lifetime.

Just thinking about Dad Chan...
The nursery was looming with the lingering scent of baby lotion and the cute giggles of your 6 month old baby, as you got her dressed for her check up. She was looking up at you with a huge gummy smile, her little hands wiggling in the air.
"Are you excited to see the doctor?" You cooed and the baby scrunched her little nose, "Oh, you are? Aren't you a brave girl?"
As you fastened the tiny buttons on her dress, the soft sound of footsteps approached the nursery.
Chan peeked in, hair slightly tousled from the morning rush, eyes immediately finding his little girl. His lips curled into a fond smile as he bent beside you, pressing a kiss to your temple and her chubby cheek.
“Good morning, princess,” he murmured, running his fingers through her wispy baby hair. “Are you ready?”
Your baby let out a happy squeal, her hands patting Chan’s face with newfound excitement. Chan smiled as he scooped the baby in his arms and walked to the car as you grabbed your bag and the essentials you might need.
At the doctor’s office, your baby sat on Chan’s lap, clapping her hands at the colorful art and posters decorating the walls. Chan was tapping his leg on the floor making her gently bounce up and down, giggling.
When the doctor finally entered, he gave you both a warm smile. “She’s growing beautifully. Everything looks perfect,” he said, flipping through the chart.
Chan sighed in relief—until the doctor added, “Alright, we’ll go ahead with her vaccination today.”
Chan stiffened instantly, arms tightening around your daughter. “H-hold on,” he stammered, his voice nearly cracking. “Does she have to?”
You gave him a deadpan look, but the doctor gave a gentle smile. "Of course but it's just a shot. She’ll be fine, don't worry.”
But Chan wasn’t convinced. As the nurse prepped the syringe, he looked like he was physically restraining himself from grabbing his baby and bolting out of the office.
“She’s so tiny,” he whispered, eyes darting between you and the nurse. “Can’t we—I don’t know—wait until she’s, like, ten?”
Before you could answer, the nurse instructed Chan to hold your daughter still. With heartbreaking trust, she looked up at her father, smiling with pure innocence, completely unaware of what was coming.
Then the shot happened.
The moment the needle pricked her chubby thigh, your baby’s face crumpled, her joyful babbling instantly turning into a loud wail.
Chan’s entire body tensed and his heart visibly shattered. “Oh my God, baby, I’m so sorry,” he blurted, his voice cracking as if he was the one in pain.
"All done," the nurse announced, placing a cute bandaid on her leg.
He kissed her forehead and cheeks frantically, his eyes welling up. “I’m so sorry, princess. Daddy didn't want this either.”
You pinched the bridge of your nose inhaling deeply. “Chan, breathe.”
But it was useless—he was already lost to his sorrow, whispering apologies into her tiny curls while she sniffled against his chest. The doctor reassured him that she’d be fine in a few minutes, but Chan was having none of it.
While you let your husband walk around the office trying to soothe the baby, you took her report card from the doctor, bidding a warm goodbye to him and the nurse, walking towards Chan who was now outside the room.
Once you were back in the car, your baby had already calmed down, sucking on her fingers while making soft cooing noises as Chan placed her on the car seat.
Chan, on the other hand, was still distraught, climbing into the driver's side and rested his head against the steering wheel. “That was the worst experience of my life.”
You reached over, rubbing his back soothingly. “Honey, she’s literally fine.”
He lifted his head to glare at you, eyes red-rimmed and tears brimming his long lashes. “She cried. Did you not hear that? I’m traumatized.”
Suppressing a laugh, you leaned over, pressing your lips on his softly. “You’re such a good dad,” you murmured against him. “She’s very lucky to have you hubby.”
Chan sighed heavily but melted into your touch, glancing back at the rearview mirror where your daughter was already dozing off.
“Yeah,” he muttered, still pouting. “But she’s never getting another shot again.”

She wasn’t his. A constant reminder that knocked at the back of his mind.
Chris wasn’t the kind of man to complain over every small detail. Life had handed him its fair share of punches, and he’d taken his fair share without even flinching or losing the warmth in his heart. Anyone who saw him on the outside would think of him as the one that had everything good happening to him. But on the inside, the scars remained- ugly and tender. Before it all turned grey, he was actually living the life. A newlywed with a beautiful baby three months in the making. Victoria, his now ex-wife was an extravagant person and Chris knew that but she still had other loveable qualities which he doted on. Come five years down the line, and the secrets began to come to light.
Victoria had always wanted more. More money, more status, more luxury. She knew Chris had all of that so she just decided to play along with his domestic loveable fantasies. And Chris had known this about her from the start, but he had convinced himself that love would be enough. That their little circle-just him, Victoria, and their now four-year-old daughter, Mia-would be enough.
He was wrong.
It started with the late nights out, business dinners and events with people whose names Chris never recognized. Which Chris saw as karma for constantly keeping his late nights at work too but she always came back with excuses that didn’t really add up but then again, he pushed it aside, to exhausted from his own work and raising Mia to argue. Then it was her appearance. Disheveled hair, messed up make up, hickeys? Sure, he’s been lacking in being the romantic husband but he didn’t remember giving her any of those.
“Can we talk, baby?” he had tried to ask her one evening, when he put Mia to bed. They were in their shared bedroom which was beginning to feel lonelier by the week. Victoria sat at her vanity, in pristine white doing her night routine. “About?” she responded flatly.
“U-us,” he takes off his shirt and folds it neatly. “Am I not making you feel good anymore?” she paused, looked at him through the mirror and chuckled “What’s making you say that, Chris?”
“You’ve got marks. And I haven’t given you any…”
She applied cream under her eyes. “isn’t that supposed to make you feel bad?” he gave a tight-lipped expression “Baby,” he walked over to her. “I-I know I haven’t been as romantic as I was before and that’s on me. But it’s making me feel uncomfortable that I’m seeing this and that it wasn’t me who- “
Victoria sighed, setting down the jar of cream with an exasperated clink. She turned in her chair, crossing her legs as she reagree Chris with an almost amused expression.
“You’re being dramatic,” she said cooly. “It’s just a few marks. Why does it matter where they came from?” Chris felt his stomach twist. “Because I love you. because I-”
“Love isn’t enough, Chris,” she interrupted, her tone sharp. “You think just because you get to come home every night and kiss Mia goodnight it’ll make me so obsessed with you that I’d forget my own needs?” his brows furrowed as he plopped himself on the edge of the bed. “I-I don’t understand…” Victoria rolled her eyes. “It’s not just about her, Chris. I have needs too. I need just as much excitement and love as Mia gets. I need passion, I need to be with someone who treats me like I deserve to be loved not like another chore at the end of the day.” Chris felt something crack inside his chest. “A chore?” He echoed, voice above a whisper. Isn’t that what she made him feel like? Barely giving him any breathing space with all the ‘don’t forget to pick these up at the store’, or ‘I can’t make it blah blah blah I have an appointment’ and all the other useless excuses he carried on his shoulder.
“And Mia? What does she need. What does she deserve?”
“Don’t start that. She deserves stability. You work all the time too and I’ve told you timelessly that you can’t be keeping your late schedule when we have her to think about. Look, the difference between us is just that I’ve found a way to make it work for me. To balance you and my…real needs.”
Realization dawned like a cold slap to the face. “There’s someone else.” She didn’t deny it. Didn’t. Even. Flinch. Victora turned back to the mirror, picking up her cream again as if the conversation had already ended in her mind. “You don’t have to worry about me, baby. I can take care of myself and leave. We’ll file for divorce. And I’ll take Mia.” He couldn’t even understand her anymore. She just wants to leave? She’s not going to hear his side of the story? Taking his baby girl?! His eyes shot up. “Like hell you will.” Chris rarely raised his voice at her before, but that night, the betrayal shattered something inside him. “So that’s it? You’re walking away from your family for a supposedly bigger paycheck?”
Her eyes still focused on her reflection she spoke, “This is a blessing in disguise, Chris. Take it or leave it.”
And that was when the real war began.
The woman had connections, the bitch. Lawyers who knew how to twist the narrative. Chris worked long hours making him ‘too busy’ to be a full-time parent. He didn’t come from money making him ‘unstable’ compared to Victoria’s new fiancé- a wealthy, well-respected businessman. The court never even asked who Mia wanted to stay with. Despite everything Chris fought. Hard. But the corrupt system wasn’t built to favor fathers like him. In the saddening end, Victoria was granted full custody. He was left with weekends and whatever stolen moments he could manage. Innocent Mia had sobbed in his arms the first time she had to leave. Chris had nearly broken down right there with her. She couldn’t understand it all but what she did know was that being with her father was never enough. He was so close yet so far away.
At the time Chris didn’t have a lot of people to lean on, but if there were two people who saw everything from the beginning, it was Changbin and Jisung. They saw it all. They were the ones who stayed- when everyone whispered about how he should’ve seen it coming or how maybe he just wasn’t enough. Changbin was the first to throw a punch when some asshole had the nerve to call Chris pathetic for loving someone who was visibly used him. Jisung had been the one to show up at his doorstep at 3 A.M., with food, refusing to leave until Chris had at least eaten something. Now, they were the ones who made sure Mia had people who truly adored her and treated her like family, even when her mother made her feel like a second thought.
-
The school bell echoed through the courtyard, signaling freedom for dozens of gleeful kids. Chris leaned against his car, scanning the crowd until his eyes landed on her- Mia, sprinting towards him with wild abandon, her backpack bouncing on her shoulders.
“Daddy!” She screamed, her face lighting like the sun. Chris opened his arms just in time for her to crash into him. He lifted her off the ground spinning her around as pure joy surged through him.
Mia’s eyes sparkled as she hugged him tight. “Can we get ice cream before dinner tonight?” he chuckled. “Ice cream before dinner? That sounds like trouble, baby.” “Please?” she begged, tilting her head in that way that always melted him. He sighed dramatically. “Anything for my babygirl.”
Chris’ apartment wasn’t grand. Well not as grand as the one he used to have with his ex-wife. But it was warm. Lived-in. The type of place where every corner held memories- some old some new, most centered around Mia, of course. Mia’s drawings were taped to the fridge, stick figures holding hands with big smiles and a sun in the constant corner that shone too brightly. Tiny pink socks and stuffed animals littered the couch, evidence of the weekend play sessions that always ended with Mia curled up against his side, fighting sleep just to stay up a little longer with him.
When she was with him, Chris was dad in every sense of the word. He cooked her meals even when they turned out slightly burnt, he helped her with homework (which explaining to her sometimes confused him in the process). When it came to bedtime stories, he helped her pick them out and carried her to the bed when she fell asleep mid-play. Some Saturdays he would take her to the studio and sometimes it was unavoidable. Mia was always curious about her dad’s job. Plus, she vaguely remembers that she used to see him working with different genres of people when she was younger, back when she had more than weekends with him.
So, after stopping for her favorite snack on a Saturday morning, they arrived at the studio. When they walked in, Mia’s eyes widened as she took everything in. tiny sparks of color filled the faint memories of this place in her mind. The soundproof walls, the scattered yet arranged equipment, the glowing computer screens displaying colorful waveforms. “Woah…” She bounced forward, her tiny hands gripping her bunny in its ears. Chris smiled watching her.
“Cool, yeah?” Chris ruffled before guiding her to the main recording room. “Come on, I’ll show you where the chaos happens.” Before they could go any further, a familiar voice called out.
“Yaa! Is that my favorite troublemaker?!” Mia’s face lit up instantly as Changbin appeared from one of the side rooms, arms spread wide. “Uncle Binnie!” she squealed, running to him without hesitation. Chris barely had time before she leapt into Changbin’s arms, giggling as he spun her around. “Look at you, getting so big! What happened to tiny Mia I used to know?”
“I’m still tiny,” she giggled. “I dunno…you’re almost as big as your dad now,” He teased, shooting the other man a smirk. Chris rolled his eyes. “Funny.” They got in to the studio together. Chris dropped Mia’s backpack on the couch at the end of the room, as Changbin sat her on his lap.
“Where’s J. One?” he asked. As if on cue the door opened with Jisung walking in, coffee in hand. His eyes darted straight to the tiny person on Changbin’s lap, playfully blinking in disbelief. “No way. Is that my Mia?”
Mia gasped. “Uncle ‘Sung!” she wriggled out of the other’s arms and ran straight for Jisung who caught her one-handed with ease, throwing her into his arms. “Daang, I haven’t seen you in forever!” he said dramatically, pretending to stagger under her weight. “You sure you’re not twenty now?” she squeaked, hitting his shoulder “I’m six!”
“Six? No way. You’re lying,” he teased dropping her.
Chris shook his head, watching as they fell into playful banter. Mia looked genuinely happy, completely forgetting about everything else. And it made Chris forget about everything to for a while. At least on most Saturdays.
-
Sundays were the worst. For both of them. Sunday nights felt like losing her all over again. Chris never liked to bring up Victoria unless Mia did first. He knew better than to talk shit about her mother in front of her, no matter how much resentment he held. She was too young to understand the full extent of what happened, and he didn’t want her carrying the weight of their broken marriage. But sometimes, she asked questions. And those were the hard moments.
After dinner one Sunday, with Mia’s bags packed and toys arranged, Chris was brushing her hair. She sat on the couch, the bunny clutched to her chest. She had been quiet. They were always strangely quiet on Sunday nights. He didn’t push, but Mia always spoke when she was ready. Mr. Bean played softly on the TV in the background when she finally spoke.
“Do you like Mr. Dlyan?”. He froze, his hands pausing mid-stroke. That was the name of Victoria’s new husband. The one that seemed to have wider pockets according to her. He forced himself to keep his voice light. “Why do you ask, baby?”
Mia shrugged, kicking her feet. “Mommy says he’s nice. And that he takes good care of us.” “He’s mommy’s new husband, but you know that already.” He said carefully. “Do you like him?” she hesitated, her tiny fingers fiddling with the edge of her animal’s ear. “He buys me lots of toys,” she admitted. “And he says I can call him Dad if I want to.” His grip on the brush tightened. He took a slow breath, forcing down the lump in his throat.
“And do you want to?”
She looked up at him then, big, honest eyes searching his face. “No.”
Relief washed over him so quickly it made him feel guilty. He cleared his throat and set the brush down, gently pulling her into his lap. “Mia, listen to me,” he said softly. “You can call him whatever makes you comfortable. But just because mommy married someone else doesn’t make me any less of a father. Especially your father. That will never change. Okay?”
Mia nodded, gripping his shirt. “I don’t want him to be my dad. I already have one.” He smiled pressing a kiss to her head. “That’s right, baby. You do.” She snuggled closer. “But mommy says I should be happy with him. That its better this way.”
Chris shut his eyes for a moment, trying to gather his emotions before they could break through. He hated the idea of Mia feeling pressured, of her thinking she had to accept this new man as a father figure just to keep the peace. “You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, Mia,” he murmured. “You’re allowed to feel how you feel.”
She turned back to the tv. “But I want to be with you.” Chris held her a little tighter, kissing her forehead like he always did when the words I love you weren’t enough.
“Me too, baby. Me too.”
The sky was painted in muted hues of blue and orange, the sun seemed reluctant to set as Chris’s car idled in front of his ex-wife’s pristine suburban house. Mia sat in the backseat, silent, her small fingers anxiously twisting the strap of her backpack. Chris stole a glance at her through the rearview mirror, his chest tightening at the sight of her downcast face.
“We’re here, sweetheart,” he said softly, hating the weight of those words. Mia didn’t move. Her lips wobbled, and tears threatened to spill over her long lashes. Chris unbuckled his seatbelt and turned in his seat, reaching for her hand. “Hey,” he whispered, “It’s okay.” “It’s not okay,” she sniffled, her voice breaking. “I hate going back. Mommy doesn’t even talk to me ask, Daddy. She’s always busy with her friends and her phone! Its better being with you daddy! I don’t wanna go back!”
“I know it’s hard,” he murmured, cupping her cheek. “But you’ll be back with me on Friday. We'll do anything you want, yeah? Just you and me.” She tried to smile, but crumbled into tears. He couldn’t take it anymore. He unbuckled her seatbelt and pulled her into his arms, letting her cry against his shoulder. “It’s okay to cry, baby,” he whispered, his own voice thick. “But I promise- Daddy always comes back for you.” her fingers clutched his jacket like a lifeline. “I love you, Daddy.” She choked out.
“I love you too, Mia. So much.”
That was the loop. The constant loop that went on and on. Chris was so tired of it all.
Till you came in.

The soft hum of the baby monitor on the nightstand was the only sound breaking the stillness of the room. I sat on the edge of our bed, staring at the digital clock glowing 2:37 AM. My chest tightened as I fought the urge to cry.
Bang Chan wasn’t here again.
It had been weeks since he’d had a proper day off, weeks since we’d spent more than a fleeting moment together as a family. He was always working—writing, producing, rehearsing. And while I knew his role as the leader of Stray Kids demanded so much of him, it felt like his role as a father and partner had taken a backseat.
A soft cry crackled through the baby monitor, jolting me out of my thoughts.
“Shh, I’m coming,” I whispered to no one, pulling myself together and heading into the nursery.
Our daughter, Luna, lay in her crib, her tiny face scrunched up as she whimpered. I reached in, scooping her up gently, and began rocking her in my arms.
“It’s okay, sweet girl,” I cooed. “Mommy’s here.”
Her cries subsided into soft sniffles, and I kissed her forehead, inhaling the faint scent of baby powder.
I felt a pang of sadness as I looked down at her. She deserved more than this. More than just me. She deserved her dad too.
The front door creaked open just after 4 AM. I was sitting on the couch, Luna finally asleep in her bassinet beside me.
Chan stepped inside, his shoulders slumped and his hoodie pulled low over his face. He looked exhausted, but when he saw me sitting there, his eyes widened in surprise.
“(Y/N), you’re still awake?”
I nodded, crossing my arms over my chest. “How could I sleep when I don’t even know if you’re coming home anymore?”
He winced, shutting the door quietly behind him. “I’m sorry. Practice ran late, and then I had some things to finish in the studio—”
“It’s always practice or the studio or something else,” I interrupted, my voice trembling with frustration. “Do you even realize how long it’s been since you spent time with us? With her?” I motioned toward the bassinet.
His gaze flickered to Luna, and guilt flashed across his face. “I know. I know I’ve been… absent. But you know how important this is. I’m doing this for us. For her future.”
I let out a bitter laugh. “Her future? Chan, she doesn’t need all the money or fame in the world. She needs her dad. I need you.”
“I’m trying,” he said, his voice cracking. “I’m doing the best I can.”
“Are you?” I asked, standing up. “Because it feels like your best is reserved for everyone else but us.”
His shoulders sagged, and he ran a hand through his hair. “What do you want me to do, (Y/N)? Quit? Walk away from everything I’ve worked for?”
“I’m not asking you to quit,” I said, my voice softening. “I’m asking you to find a balance. To make time for the family you chose to have.”
He looked at me, and for a moment, I thought he might argue. But then he nodded, his expression weary. “You’re right. I’ve been… I’ve been failing you. Both of you. I’ll try harder, I promise.”
I wanted to believe him. I really did.
Days turned into weeks, and while Chan did make more of an effort to be present, it still felt like his heart was elsewhere. He’d hold Luna and play with her, but his phone was always nearby, his mind half in another world.
One evening, after putting Luna to bed, I found him in the living room with his laptop open. He was reviewing tracks, his headphones on, completely absorbed.
“Chan,” I said, standing in the doorway.
He didn’t respond.
“Chan,” I said again, louder this time.
He finally looked up, pulling his headphones off. “What’s up?”
I stared at him, my chest tightening. “Is this what it’s always going to be like? You here, but not really here?”
He frowned, closing his laptop. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about us,” I said, stepping closer. “I’m talking about how I feel like I’m raising Luna on my own while you chase this dream that seems more important than we are.”
“That’s not fair,” he said, his voice rising slightly. “You knew what you were signing up for when we started this. You knew my career would demand a lot of me.”
“I didn’t know it would mean losing you,” I shot back, tears spilling over.
His face softened, and he stood, reaching for me. “(Y/N), don’t say that. You haven’t lost me.”
“Haven’t I?” I whispered, pulling away. “Because it feels like I’m standing here begging for scraps of your time, your attention. And I shouldn’t have to beg, Chan. We shouldn’t have to beg.”
He looked at me, pain etched across his face, but he didn’t say anything. And in that silence, I felt my heart break a little more.
That night, I packed a bag for Luna and me.
I didn’t want to leave. I loved Chan more than anything, but I couldn’t keep living like this. I couldn’t keep feeling like we were an afterthought in his life.
When he found me in the nursery, his eyes widened in alarm. “What are you doing?”
“I need some space,” I said, my voice trembling. “I need to figure out what’s best for Luna and me.”
“(Y/N), please,” he said, his voice desperate. “Don’t do this. Don’t leave.”
“I don’t want to,” I admitted, tears streaming down my face. “But I can’t keep waiting for you to choose us.”
He reached for me, his hands trembling. “You don’t have to wait. I’ll do better, I swear. Just don’t go.”
I looked at him, my heart breaking at the sight of his tears. “I love you, Chan. But love isn’t enough if we’re the only ones fighting for this.”
With that, I picked up Luna and walked out the door, leaving behind the man I loved and the life we had built together.
The days that followed were some of the hardest of my life. I stayed with my sister, trying to find clarity amidst the chaos of my emotions.
Chan called and texted every day, apologizing, begging for another chance. I wanted to forgive him, to run back into his arms and pretend everything was okay. But I knew we needed more than just promises.
One evening, about two weeks after I left, there was a knock at the door.
I opened it to find Chan standing there, holding a small bouquet of flowers and a stuffed bunny for Luna. He looked exhausted, but there was a determination in his eyes that hadn’t been there before.
“Can we talk?” he asked.
I nodded, stepping aside to let him in.
He sat down on the couch, his hands trembling as he set the flowers and toy on the table. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking,” he began. “About us. About everything.”
I sat across from him, waiting.
“You were right,” he said, his voice breaking. “I’ve been so focused on my career that I’ve been neglecting the most important people in my life. And I hate myself for it.”
Tears filled my eyes, but I didn’t say anything.
“I don’t want to lose you,” he continued. “I don’t want to lose our family. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to fix this. To be the husband and father you both deserve.”
“Chan,” I said softly, my voice trembling. “I don’t need perfection. I just need you to try. To really try.”
He reached across the table, taking my hands in his. “I will. I swear, (Y/N). You and Luna are my everything. And I’m going to prove it to you every day.”
Looking into his eyes, I saw the sincerity there. The love. The man I had fallen in love with.
Maybe it wouldn’t be easy. Maybe we had a long road ahead of us. But for the first time in weeks, I felt hope.
And that was enough to take the first step toward healing together.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing -> Dad!Bang Chan x fem!reader WC -> ~3,300 words Includes -> lots of fluff, so domestic, dad!Chan with twin girls, Christmas activities, implied female reader, brief mentions of pregnancy, baking fights Summary -> Now that your twins are 4 years old, it's time to pull out all the tricks for Christmas morning. The memory making for Chan and you starts when the kids go to bed, the two of you preparing for the morning to come. Author's Note -> I couldn't help but write a Christmas Chan fic. He was the perfect one for it. I'm a big softie for dad Chan. He would be so sweet. So, I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did! I spent all Christmas morning writing it! Happy Holidays! ♡ Masterlist ♡
You close the pink painted door softly behind you and immediately smile at your husband. He's standing beside you, hand covering his mouth, trying his best to hold in his giggle. His eyes sparkle with excitement. You guys have had this night planned for weeks, wanting to get it right. Your twin girls are turning 4 this year, and that means it's time to step it up. You guys want the Christmas magic to stay alive for as long as possible, so you need to start strong. There has obviously been lots of presents from Santa during previous years, but you both decided that it's time to really go all out now that they are starting to become more aware of the festivities of the Christmas season.
The whole thing had been Chan's idea, of course. The poor guy had been absolutely smitten with his daughters since they were born, and now they truly had him wrapped around their fingers. In fact, you guys have just managed to put them to sleep after reading not 1, not 2, but 4 stories to them, Chan eventually helping them beg you for the fourth one; it was his favorite, too, after all. He loves to read it to the girls, making them laugh at all the silly voices he creates for the different characters. He even softly sings some of the lines to them, which always results in your babies falling right asleep. They try to deny it, but their dad's voice always manages to put them right to sleep, their eyes falling closed and soft snores leaving their mouths. At that point, you practically have to drag Chan out due to him always wanting to curl up right next to them and make sure they are safe while they sleep. It's one of the things you adore most about your husband. He would do anything for your girls.
The two of you tiptoe away from the door, in hopes not to wake them up for it takes an awful long time to put them back to sleep. Chan reaches down and grabs your hand, pulling you to the living room even faster, unable to wait any longer to start on the Christmas fun.
Your house is decked out in decor from floor to ceiling, both of you in love with the festivities of the holiday season. It had been another night a few weeks before when the two of you had stayed up until the early hours of the morning, decorating the entire house for your kids to wake up to in the morning. Chan had been so excited when hearing their little feet pitter patter on the hallway outside their rooms that he had immediately sprung up to see their reactions. Just like you had expected, their little eyes lit up and they were amazed by all the lights and tinsel strewn around the house. Chan had made nearly the same face the night before after everything had been set up. You adore seeing all the little characteristics they inherited from their dad. Even though it was quite annoying hearing people mention how much they look like him after you carried them for 9 months, but Chan was never too cocky about it.
When you get to the living room, you pull away from Chan, plopping down on the tan couch covered in fuzzy Christmas blankets and throw pillows. You let out a large content sigh after a long day of seeing different family and friends for the holiday. Christmas day is reserved for your small family and grandparents. You had managed to come home by 7, but there were still many things to do; this included having to bake cookies, which lead to an unfortunate flour fight and the kids staying up way past their bedtime. Now, it's 9:30 pm, and all you wanna do is cuddle up with Chan and put on a silly Hallmark Christmas movie. He complains every year, but you know he secretly loves them.
Feeling you let go of his hand, Chan looks at you and gives you sad puppy dog eyes and pouty lips.
"But we need to set up all the stuff for the morning," he reminds you, eager to get started.
"I know honey, but it's not even 10 yet, we have tons of time. Plus we still need to clean up the kitchen from your little baking fight."
Chan laughs at the memory of your two children, absolutely covered head to toe in flour. They sneak chocolate chips from the bag as the two of you finish up, sticking the cookies in the oven. Bath time was a whole event today.
"I know, I'm just excited," he tells you as he approaches the couch. He lays his hand on your cheek, tilting your head up. He leans down, placing a kiss on your forehead.
You blush slightly, as he whispers, "I love you," his words still having the same affect even after all these years.
"i love you too."
He pulls away and turns around, heading into the kitchen.
"Wait, where are you going?" you ask him, confused. All you wanted was to rest a minute and maybe have a cuddle or two.
"I'll clean up the kitchen, you just close your eyes for little while. It's been a long day. I'll wake you up when it's time to start getting everything ready for the morning," he explains, sending a wink your way. You laugh at his antics and let him go clean up the kitchen.
You start to get comfy on the couch, excited to take a few minutes to yourself during the busy holiday season. You hear muffled music start to come from the kitchen. You smile upon hearing the familiar tunes of traditional Christmas music. Chan can never work or clean without music playing, but you guess the love for music aligns well with his career. You've never been one to say no to music, although it did take a while for your love for Christmas music to grow. You have Chan to thank for that one. Your eyes fall shut, the soft sounds lulling you to sleep.
~~~
You start to stir due to fingers lightly threading through your hair. You open your eyes to see the same excited, brown eyes you wake up to every morning. He smiles when he notices you're awake. You can tell he has something to tell you simply from his body language. You have gotten to know everything about each other and there's little you don't notice. He shifts slightly as he kneels next to you, anxious to get the information out.
"I cleaned up the kitchen, but I've got a great idea," he says. You roll your eyes in fondness, as you sit up to make room for him on the couch. He sits down next to you, pulling your legs into his lap. He can't keep things from you for long. You're his favorite confidant. He often comes home from work and spills everything that happened. You're always the first one to hear new songs, your kids always the next in line to hear their dad sing with his band.
"It'll be messy, but I promise it'll be worth it. The girls are gonna be so amazed," he says, trying to convince you. It doesn't take much for you to agree with him, since your kids are easily impressed.
"Okay, I think it's been long enough, I doubt they're gonna wake up any time soon. Show me what you got Christopher," you say, sparking an instant reaction in the man. He shoots up from the couch, rushing to your shared bedroom. You laugh as you notice him slow down to tiptoe past the kids room before going back to his mission. He comes back, just a couple minutes later with a large pair of boots he must have dug through your closet to find. They are probably from a concert he had years prior. Chan had probably liked the boots a little too much and begged the stylists to keep them.
"What in the world are you gonna do with those?" you ask him, genuinely curious. This was one of the few times where you had no idea where this conversation was heading. That wasn't too surprising though, considering how creative the man is. He sets the boots gently on the floor, careful not too make too much noise in fear of waking the girls up. They aren't necessarily light sleepers, but a chunky pair of boots hitting the wood floors would definitely make them rouse from their beds. He heads back into the kitchen to retrieve God knows what.
He comes back out with a giddy smile on his face, and the culprit for the earlier mess in his hand. Flour. You chuckle, immediately realizing what his idea entails.
"You're a genius," you say, shaking your head with affection.
You stand up, taking the flour out of his hand and placing it on the coffee table.
"This is gonna have to happen last though. We don't wanna mess it up before morning hits." He nods his head in agreement.
"Let's get the presents out and then let's worry about the cookies," Chan suggests. You head into your bedroom together, heading to your secret hiding spot for the presents. You open your closet up, a place your kids don't normally get into. You immediately take notice of how some of the presents have been shuffled onto the one side of the closet. You hold in a laugh upon realizing Chan had to shove the presents aside in order to grab his black boots. You carefully grab a few of the presents and Chan grabs a few more, always eager to show off the muscles he works hard for in the gym.
You head back into the living room, placing the presents under the tree. You had made sure to wrap each of the girls' presents in different wrapping paper so it would be easier for the four year olds to tell which present was theirs.
Eventually, the both of you have stacked up the presents under the tree, resulting in an impressive sight of gifts. Your little girls will be unable to contain their excitement at all the wrapped toys. A lot of them had to be similar due to their tendency to fight over toys. You are still trying to teach them sharing, but they tend to struggle with it a little bit. Chan has gotten good at sorting out the fights, being able to pick out the right words to say in order to stop the arguing. Unsurprisingly, he just has that leader quality about him that makes people listen to what he has to say, especially his two kids.
As your admiring the plenty of presents, you spent more money than you'd like to admit on, you barely notice as Chan leaves the room. He comes back with something behind his back and it quickly draws your attention. You notice the small wrapped gifts behind his back and smile. There had been a year where you guys had decided not to get each other anything, but you have been unable to ever go through with it. Chan tends to go all out for Christmas gifts and so do you, so there was no shot at trying to hold back. He simply goes to the side of the tree, pretending like he doesn't know you had seen him. He sets the three variously sized boxes down behind the gifts for the children. You decide to grab the gifts you had gotten for Chan in the morning, knowing there is bound to be a time when the girls will be distracting him enough for you to sneak them under the tree. He had been complaining about his computer lately, groaning in frustration when it would glitch or run out of battery too quickly. So, you had gotten him a nicer one for Christmas, especially since he uses the thing so much. You know he'll love it and you're excited to see his reaction. He'll thank you for days, even weeks, after.
Since the presents are all settled under the tree, you head into the kitchen, grabbing the plate of still warm chocolate chip cookies the kids left out. They were getting overtired, so you had promised them you would place the cookies where Santa could see so he could have a treat on his journey across the globe.
You make your way back into the living room to see your husband swaying gently to the Christmas music, still playing from when he had been cleaning up the kitchen. He's texting on his phone; you assume it's one of the boys considering he always seems to be texting them about one thing or another. You set the cookies down on the coffee table and walk behind him. You wrap your arms gently around his waist and go onto your tiptoes, hooking your chin over his shoulder.
"Who are you texting?" You ask with no malice in your tone, just simple curiosity. He smiles, leaning back gently into your touch.
"Felix was asking about what our plans were for tomorrow. He wanted to come over to see the girls and give them their gifts," he says. You're sure that by the end of the night tomorrow, a few of the boys from his group will have stopped by. The girls love them, especially Felix and, surprisingly enough, Seungmin. He entertains them little, but the man has somehow caught the kids' hearts.
You nod against his back as he turns his phone off and places it back in his pocket, giving you his full attention. He places his hands over yours, and you hum in content, completely and fully happy with the life you're living. One of Chan's hands grips your wrist and he spins out of your hold. His grinning face now looking back at yours. He pulls you in gently by the waist, his body still swaying to the beat of the music. You wrap your arms around his neck, quickly catching onto his aim here. In the background, "White Christmas" plays, one of your favorite Christmas songs, a fact Chan is all too aware of.
He starts to gently lead you in a slow dance, a tradition the two of you have followed since the first year you were married. You had still been in your honeymoon stage when it had started, getting married just a month before. It was your first Christmas Eve together as husband and wife, and in the middle of baking cookies for a family gathering the next day, Chan had asked you to dance with him. Since then, you have slow danced every year on Christmas Eve to various Christmas songs. It has slowly but surely become one of the main things you look forward to within the holiday season. He dances with you on other occasions, but for some reason, it feels so much more special when the only light comes from the soft glow of the Christmas tree, muffled Christmas music fills the room, and the smell of cookies wafts throughout the house.
You spin slowly around the room, ensuring not to step on Chan's feet. Your fingers gently play with the hair on the nape of his neck as your head lays on his chest. His fingers have found their way to your slightly raised shirt, softly rubbing the exposed skin along your waist, causing goosebumps to erupt on your skin. He never fails to have the same effect on you even after 6 years of marriage and two children.
You hear Chan start to softly sing the tune, and you get lost in the sound of his voice. Your eyes closed, appreciating the delicate moment between the two of you.
However, as the song nears it's end, you are quickly thrown out of the calmness. Chan runs his hand up to the dip of your back, holding you gently there, as he attempts to lean you back in what he hopes to be a romantic dip. It turns out to be a dramatic fail, as you lose your footing due to the surprise and he tumbles to the ground with you. You both land on the soft rug which blankets both of your falls, keeping either of you from getting hurt. Chan immediately panics, terrified he hurt you. You quickly reassure him, knowing how worked up he could get over this.
Before long you're both in a heap on the floor, unable to control your laughter. You giggle softly in his neck as he hugs you, still trying to keep relatively quiet, not wanting to wake up the girls who are sleeping in just a room over.
"Alright we have to get started on everything else. It's getting late," you whisper in his ear, aware that Chan would lay here with you forever if he could.
He slowly gets up before grabbing your hand, helping you to your feet. You make your way back over to the cookies.
"Alright, do you want a bite of the cookie, or do you want me to?" Chan questions.
"You can take the bite," you say, remembering how excited he had been for this whole thing. Not to mention you had snuck a cookie when Chan had tried to gather the girls up for bedtime.
He takes a bite, humming at the taste. He sets the cookie back down on the plate after making sure the perfect amount had been bitten off. It has to look like Santa had taken a bite of it the night before. Next, your eyes land on the glass of milk next to the plate. He nods to you, and you drink half of it so that it is noticeable that someone drank some.
Once you set the glass down, Chan excitedly hands you the flour and grabs his boots from where had set them down earlier. He only puts one on at first, but you remind him that Santa would make footprints with both feet and he rushes to put the other one on.
You bring the flour over to the fireplace and dump a tiny bit on the brick that extends a little out from it. You spread it gently with your hand, rubbing the excess on your pants. Chan steps straight onto the flooring, pushing down, to ensure a footprint will appear. He steps away and just like you had expected, a pair of big boot footprints show in the flour, facing away from the fireplace. The two of you make a path of footprints leading to the cookies, then to the tree. The flour looks as if it were snow brought in from outside. Chan's boots made nearly the perfect replica of Santa's footprints.
You stand back, admiring your work, knowing the girls are going to freak in the morning.
"You're definitely cleaning that up in the morning," you tease him with a laugh despite knowing he would do it without you even having to ask.
You work quickly as a team, putting all of the evidence away, before getting ready for bed. You were both already in your matching Christmas pajamas, you had bought for your family this year. The girls were just as eager to wear them as you were. Chan had pretended to hate it at first, but you knew he was just messing around. He secretly adored doing all the silly, cringy family things you asked him to.
After brushing your teeth and washing your face, you crawled into bed with him. You lay your head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat rhythmically in your ear, lulling you into a deep sleep.
Before you slip into unconsciousness, you whisper out, hoping your husband is still awake, "Merry Christmas, Channie."
"Merry Christmas, Darling."
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 :: chan enjoys some time with his family
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 :: none besides very cute chan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chan was walking up and down the practice room with his son in his arms who was sobbing his little heart out. Jun was 8 months old and such a sweet boy but sometimes he got a little bit fussy when his mother wasn’t there. Chan bounced the little boy slightly while kissing his son’s head whispering sweet nothings in his ear. You asked chan to take care of Jun for today so you could go out with your daughter and chan obviously agreed. He knew how hard it was for you to mostly take care of your son and Daughter and chan. He appreciated how you would make him dinner when he worked longer and always put a cute note beside the dish.
Chan heard the door open and Felix walks in holding some strawberries in a tiny bowl. Jun turns his head to Felix looking at the bowl with his big brown eyes. Jun was basically a copy of his father from the tiny curls on his head to the soft freckles on his cheeks he even has a similar lip shape, Although chan insisted that Jun has your nose. “Thank you Felix” chan said softly sitting down on the sofa with Jun in his lap his tiny body resting against his chest. Jun recently found his new love for strawberries so as soon as he saw the red fruit in the bowl his tears stop and he makes grabby hands to his uncle.
Felix smiled down at the tiny boy. While Chan holds his son to make sure he doesn’t accidentally hurt himself, Felix held out a tiny peace of strawberry. Jun stared at it before slowly grabbing the fruit in his little fist, he opened his tiny mouth and shoves the fruit in giggling when he tasted the sweet flavour. Chan smiles down at his son as Jun moves his arms around wildly. “Is it tasty baby?” Chan ask in a high pitched voice making Jun squeal his tears now long forgotten. Felix hands Jun another strawberry but instead of eating it himself like the last one Jun holds up the fruit to chan looking at his father with wide eyes. Chan’s heart melted “is that for me junieee” he said in a shocked voice. Jun shoves the peace of strawberry against his father’s mouth to signal him to eat it. Chan smiles and takes the peace of fruit nibbling on his son’s fingers to tease him.
Jun whines at his father’s teasing and makes grabby hands to his uncle, Felix waisted no time and took the little boy in his arms and hands him the bowl with strawberries. Chan smiles at the cute interaction between his best friend and son, he thinks it’s cute the way his son holds Felix finger in his tiny fist while shovelling tiny cut strawberry in his mouth. The door opens and chan watches as you and your daughter walk in the room his daughter quickly making her way over and cuddling in his chest “Daddy we went shopping and mommy got me new hair clips look” Mira points at the butterfly hair clips that sit in her braids. Chan smiles and kisses her cheek “you look beautiful Mimi” he tucks a curl behind her ear and kisses her forehead.
Jun had lost interest in his half empty bowl and was now completely engrossed in the sight of his Mother as he stares at you. You lean down and take Jun in your arms pressing kisses all over his cheeks. Jun was giggling loudly his tiny hands on your cheeks. Chan was staring at you in complete awe as Mira sat beside Felix and telling him about her new hair butterfly clips. Felix praising her and telling her how pretty she looks. Chan stands up and walks to you putting his arms around you and your son. You could see that Jun was getting sleepy so you patted his tiny back while humming lowly. Chan presses a loving kiss on your lips.
You let yourself get distracted by your husband’s lips until you heard your daughter scream “ewww daddy and mommy are kissing…no kissing you’re only allowed to kiss me” she said proudly pointing at herself. You and chan laughed. Chan kneels down and opens his arms for his daughter who didn’t waist a second to rub in her father arms snuggling into his comforting warmth she knew so well. “Let’s get home baby I think someone is tired” you said kissing Jun’s cheek. Jun nuzzles is head further in the comfort of his mother. Chan agrees and after saying good bye to Felix you both went home.
When chan opens the door to your home carefully pushing it open with his foot his sleeping daughter in his arms while you carried Jun. While you went to change your son into his clothes being careful to not wake him up chan did the same to mira carefully putting her in her bear pj’s, before putting her in her bed making sure to cover her in her favourite blanket. Chan turns on her night light that was shaped like a moon before slowly leaving her room. He doesn’t fully close the door in case she has a nightmare. When Chan walks into the kitchen he sees you standing in front of the Stove cooking dinner for you and him, he couldn’t help but smile even if you weren’t wearing any makeup and your hair tied in a messy bun wearing only his oversized sweater you where still the most beautiful woman in the world to him. So he slowly moves towards you and puts his strong arms around your waist nuzzling his face in your neck enjoying your natural scent. You hum and turn your face to press a kiss on his nose making him laugh shyly. Chan loves your affection because you don’t need to talk much and understand each other without much words. “Go sit down Darling dinner is almost done you need to eat” you said softly nudging him towards the table.
Chan complies easily and sits down his eyes following your every move in case you needed his help. You walk over to the large table and put down a bowl noodles in front of him and some chopsticks beside it. Chan smiles at you and leans over to press a sweet kiss on your lips as a thank you. Suddenly chan hears his son’s soft whines for attention so he quickly gets up and walks over to where Jun had previously been sleeping, he carefully picks him up and holds him secure to his chest before making his way back to you. You’re looking at Chan with so much admiration while holding your arms out to take your son from him “give him to me Darling you should eat” you said while taking your son carefully from him. Jun quickly calming down when he notices his mother holding him, you take the pacifier from the table and offer it to your son. Jun quickly starts to slowly suck on the pacifier while his tiny hands are busy playing with the material of the sweater you’re wearing.
Chan watches as you entertain your son while eating his dinner with a smile on his pretty lips.
STORY UNDER THE CUT
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
Chan was a regular at your cafe. And by regular you mean he comes by every day, 3:12 pm sharp. You would be stupid not to notice him; he’s too beautiful for his own good. His dark brown curls rested peacefully on his forehead, blissfully unaware of the effect they had on you, and his chiselled jaw looked like it could cut through diamonds. It didn’t matter if he was wearing a T-shirt or a coat, you could see his well-built body even through his clothes. He just looked so dreamy to you, and maybe that’s why you were thinking about him on your Sunday shift. One of the two days that he doesn’t come by the cafe. It was hard to wake up at the ass crack of dawn at the weekends long before Chan started going to your cafe. But ever since he first showed up in a black sweater and his hair unruly, asking for an iced americano to-go, waking up for your weekend shifts was even harder.
“You need a coffee.”
Snapping your head up quickly, you smiled at your friend tiredly, “Thanks, Hwa. Just what a girl needs at 9 am on a Sunday.” You quickly started making his drink to wake up at least just a little bit.
“I’m just saying,” he shrugged, “you probably haven’t gotten many customers anyway. Had a long night?”
You turned around with a fake scandalised look on your face, making him laugh. “You make me laugh, Park Seonghwa. I have a child to take care of!” you cried out jokingly, flailing your hands around. It made him look around the cafe and ponder on how far you’ve come. He had known you for quite some time now, meeting you at one of the many college parties his friends dragged him to. Back then this cafe was real only in your imagination, and he can remember the mental picture of the cafe he had when you first told him about your dream quite well, seeing as it was standing right in front of him. Well, besides the autumn decorations on every surface imaginable. He felt proud of you, and he would come to this cafe even if the coffee sucked.
“I know, babe, but don’t you think you deserve to at least go on a date? And before you say something,” he put a finger up, making you turn back around, “maybe you can ask a hot customer, ‘cause I know damn well you don’t go anywhere other than your flat and the cafe,” he looked at the back of your head pointedly.
You keep your eyes trained on the coffee in front of you as you think of a certain customer. Obviously, you’ve thought about asking him out, but what if he was taken? He seemed to be older than you, and honestly, it would be a crime to leave that man single. And the second problem was even worse; you couldn’t for the life of you function properly when he was just on the other side of the counter. Yes, that may be because you haven’t felt the touch of another human being in quite some time, but you told yourself that it was just because of his stunning looks to keep your sanity.
“Your coffee’s ready,” you turned around, smiling at him sarcastically.
“You really don’t wanna talk about it, huh?”
“No, not really.”
He looked at you plainly in silence before softening up. “Just hit me up once something happens, please. Or even when nothing happens. You know that our door is always open for you, y/n.”
“Of course, Hwa. We still have to plan the sleepover, anyway. Now shoo before the Sunday brunchers start coming,” you laughed, and it made him check his watch.
“Oh god, I left Wooyoung in the car alone for fifteen minutes.”
3pm on an October Sunday had never felt as good as that day. Cleaning tables after a long day of being alone at the cafe mixed with your playlist playing softly in the background sounded like music to your ears. Even though it wasn’t by far the busiest day that the cafe had lived through, it felt like it. Your Sunday part-time worker texted you yesterday evening that he got the flu and could barely even stand up, so you told him to get well soon and then cried for an hour, like the responsible boss you are.
After you finished cleaning up, you set the cleaning timer on all coffee machines to 4pm, turned off all the lights, put on your coat and grabbed your stuff. Stopping the music, you looked at your phone, only to see 3:10pm written on it. That means you can still catch the earlier bus without running to the bus stop and then start that series you’ve been itching to watch half an hour earlier. You add a little skip into your walk to the door, opening it. Just as you stepped out, a body stepped right in front of you. Yelping, you step back slightly, looking up at the stranger who wanted to come into the cafe, only to find Chan standing right in front of you, in that black sweater of his that you saw him in for the first time.
He took a step back. “I’m so sorry! Are you okay?”
You nodded at him with a laugh, “yeah, of course. I’m sorry, too. You just really scared me.”
He then looked at your hand, which was holding the keys to the cafe, and then inside the building behind you, seeing the lights off. His expression falls and a little frown makes its way onto his face instead. “You’re closing? I thought you were here ‘till 5 today.”
Your expression fell too, “oh my god. I forgot to put up the autumn schedule on Google,” he giggled a little at your expression, “in autumn and winter, we close at 3pm on Sundays. I’m so sorry, this is totally my fault. Do you still want coffee? The machines are not going to start the cleaning process until 4, anyway.”
He interrupted you with a laugh, “you really don’t have to apologise, it’s nothing. But, um,” there was some hesitation in his voice, “but would you, maybe, no pressure, really, I don’t want you to feel like you have to, um.” He looked down at his feet and then back up at you with a nervous smile. “Would you want to go somewhere? With me. If you’re not busy, obviously.”
You laughed out of shock, “Oh, um. What? I mean, really?” He smiled, his dimples on display, and nodded.
“Yeah, sure. Sure, I would love to.” Were you dreaming? “Do you want to go in, then? O-or-”
“No, no, I was thinking maybe, um, get street food and just go to the park around the corner? Because I don’t want you to spend time making something? Actually, scratch that, that’s just plain and stupid, maybe I should plan something fancier,” rambled Chan, combing his hand through his hair.
“No, I think that sounds good,” you said, maybe a little too quickly, “I mean, uh, yeah. Sure, sounds good. Perfect, even.”
“Okay!” There was that smile with the dimples.
“Okay,” you smiled up at him sweetly, “oh!” Turning around, you locked the door quickly before turning around. “Shall we, then?”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
The food wasn’t necessarily good, but you would honestly eat worse if it meant you could spend more time with Chan. You were sat on a bench, a first date friendly distance between your bodies. You’ve gotten to know random things about him in the past hour and a half; he is 30, just seven years older than you. You also found out that he works in the local firm that’s ten minutes away from the cafe, which is why he comes to the cafe at the same time every day, and that he likes to make music with his friends. What mattered to you more, though, was how attentive and awfully nice he was. Paying for your food, walking on the outside of the sidewalk, and actually listening to what you had to say came to him naturally.
“I’m sorry, y/n, but I’ve gotta be somewhere at 5, so I’ll have to go,” he exclaimed after laughing at your previous statement. His words made you check the time on your phone, seeing that it was, in fact, nearing 5pm.
“Oh, wow, I didn’t even notice it was already 5. Time flies by when you’re having fun, I guess,” you giggle at the hopeful look in his eyes once you said you had fun.
“I had fun today, too, y/n. I’m glad you had time for me. I’ve been meaning to ask you out for a while now, and I’m happy I finally managed to do it. You’re a great person and even better company,” he stood up and look at his feet, red tinting his ears.
“Chan,” you started, also standing up, “could I get your number before you go?”
He looked back up at you for the second time that day. He thought you wouldn’t want anything more with him, maybe just chatting when he gets his coffee, but that’s about it. He let his insecurities cloud his judgement. He thought you were the one who saved this date from being a complete disaster, not knowing that this was the sweetest date you have ever been on.
Maybe this whole dating thing isn’t as hard as he remembered it to be. Or maybe it’s just your presence that’s making it easier for him. He doesn’t know, but he thinks exchanging numbers with you could be a good idea.
And as you part ways with him, he waves at you with a giddy smile, dialling the 3racha group chat. You wave at him with a giggle and a bright smile, calling Seonghwa quickly.
“You won’t fucking believe what just happened.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
It’s been almost a month since your first date with Chan. And to be honest, you were in deep. You have been texting him almost all the time, and every time he would come by the cafe, he would stay a little longer, just to see you smile. You’ve gone on different dates in the past month, but your favourites were probably the museum and the aquarium date.
But today marks the day of the biggest, and in your opinion the most important, date so far. You will be going to a respectable restaurant, dressed in your finest clothes. Seonghwa told you, that he thinks Chan might finally ask you to be his girlfriend, something you aren’t too sure of. Sure, you’ve fallen for him, and you would love to think he’s in the same predicament as you, but your overthinking mind cannot help but worry.
Especially since he texted you at half past ten in the morning that he can’t go on a date today, because his work will probably keep him busy until late at night. So, you texted him that you understand and that you hope he doesn’t stay in too late, and then took a break to cry in the breakroom. Your mind was screaming at you from every corner of your brain. Why are you crying over this? It’s nothing personal, you’re sure, Chan wouldn’t do that to you, but you can’t help but worry. What if you are just another girl to him, while he is the main topic of your conversations with your best friend?
Trying to push those thoughts away, you got up from the floor and cleaned up.
At least your part-time worker doesn’t have to close by herself, you tell yourself to feel better about this whole thing.
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
Chan felt like an asshole. He accidentally put his daughter’s recital on Saturday instead of Friday in his calendar, so he made plans with you. Turns out, the recital is, in fact, not on Saturday. His daughter was talking about it all the way to the kindergarten, all while he was silently cussing himself out. What is he supposed to tell you? Oh god, what if Jisung and Changbin can't come today? Nari would probably stop functioning if she saw two empty seats next to Chan. And then her teacher, who already didn’t like Nari for some reason, would be mad at her. This was bad.
Then he remembers that he’s talking about Changbin and Jisung, the two guys who were by his side every step of the way. They wouldn’t miss Nari’s recital for the world.
You, on the other hand? He was planning on telling you everything today at dinner; from his daughter to his feelings for you. And now he had to call off the date. Driving to work had never seemed this long. His mind was running through all the possibilities. He wasn’t stupid, he knew he should’ve told you sooner. Chan was just too scared to say anything. You were probably the best thing that’s happened to him ever since the death of Nari’s mum. What would he do if he fucked this up, too?
Brushing it away as best as he could, he texts you that he won’t be able to make it to the date due to work and that he’s sorry. Because he truly was, and all he could do was hope that you wouldn’t take anything personally.
Thankfully, his day at work went by quickly. Nothing out of the ordinary popped up, and so he could leave peacefully at 3 pm. He really wanted to see your smile and get coffee, but he knew he couldn’t, so he drove past the cafe to Jisung’s place, where he would be picking him up. Thankfully, Jisung lived quite close, so the drive didn’t take too long. Chan pulled up to his friend’s house like he had a million times before, unlocking the car as he saw Jisung standing there.
“Hey, Chan,” he greeted enthusiastically, receiving a greeting back, “you excited?”
“Hell yeah. This is Nari’s biggest recital so far. I just hope everything goes well.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
“Excuse me, sorry, excuse me, sorry,” he muttered as he passed people to get to their chairs.
Changbin looked at all the parents around them, “Gods, when did these people even get here? I thought we were gonna be the first ones here.” He received an enthusiastic nod from Jisung.
“Well, we were, but then Channie hyung just had to talk to Nari’s teacher,” Jisung rolled his eyes jokingly.
“Sorry I care about my daughter.”
A beat of silence passed through the group. Changbin and Jisung held eye contact with raised eyebrows until Jisung averted his eyes to look at Chan, “you okay?”
“Yeah, of course, why wouldn’t I be?”
All three of them knew he was fucked with that response.
“Is this about y/n?” Changbin asked, already knowing the answer.
The lights started to dim, “we’ll talk once the recital ends.”
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
He stood up, clapping proudly as he looked at his daughter. She waved at him with the biggest smile on her little face, and he knew he had to make things right. He turned to Jisung. “Could you go to Nari? I have to talk with Bin.”
Jisung nodded sombrely, seeing as he wanted to hear this conversation, but ran off happily to his niece.
Changbin sighed, “so, what did you do?”
And so, Chan tells him. Changbin knew that he hadn’t told you about Nari, but he didn’t know Chan wanted to tell you today. Chan tells him how he lied to you, and how it’s slowly eating away at his conscience. And mainly, he tells him, “I don’t want to love her, Bin. I don’t like what that means to me.”
“What do you think it means, Chris?”
“It means I have something to lose again, and I’m not strong enough for that anymore,” he whispers harshly.
“Well, if I can, I’ll tell you what I think it means,” Changbin started, “I think that means having someone who can help you bear all your problems. It means having someone who is here for you all the time. But mainly, it means having someone who loves you unconditionally, Chris. And from what you’ve told me, she’s great at all of these things. And she would probably be great with Nari, too. Nari would love her,” he paused, wondering if he should say it, “Nari will love her. But you gotta let her.”
“But, Bin,” Chan tried to reason.
“We both know she would want you to be happy. And if that means being with y/n, which I personally think it means, then she would want you to be with her.”
Chan finally looked back up from his shoes to his friend. Chan knew he was right. Changbin was always right. But what about you? Would you even want him?
“Stop overthinking and go tell her how you feel, please. I’ll cry if you don’t,” Changbin joked.
“But Nari-” Chan began, only to get interrupted.
“We’ll take her home. Go make things right,” he replied, pushing Chan to the entrance of the building. Chan only smiled before he took off, taking long strides to his car.
:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
You sighed as you wiped down the last table. It was almost 5 pm, which meant you were closing for the day. It wasn’t your normal schedule, but it was the annual maintenance day, so your customers knew about this.
All you wanted right now was a tub of ice cream, a cheesy romance movie to make you feel even worse, and three boxes of tissues to cry into. You knew this was stupid to cry about; after all, it was just a cancelled date. But what if this was just one out of many? Maybe he just didn’t want you anymore, or he never wanted you in the first place.
And maybe you could just cry over a man on a random Friday night.
You stopped the playlist sombrely, turned off the lights, and grabbed your things, seeing it was eleven minutes past five. You were supposed to be sitting in the best restaurant in the city right now.
A ring of the bell above the cafe’s door interrupted our train of thought. “Sorry, we’re closed for the day,” you turned around, only to see him standing there, dressed in that damned black sweater of his.
“Chan,” you breathed out, “what are you doing here?”
Chan froze for a second. He was finally here, after sitting in the traffic for ten minutes. He had plenty of time to think about what he was going to say and do. Problem was that he forgot all of it the moment he saw you. And so, his heart took over. He took quick steps towards you. He stopped just short of you.
“I’m so sorry, y/n. I need to tell you so much, but first I want to apologise. I haven’t been truthful with you in every aspect and,” he took a breath,” I’m just so sorry. Could we sit down?”
And as he told you about his late wife and his daughter Nari in one of the cafe’s booths, you felt like a complete asshole for overthinking this. Of course he didn’t tell you, dumbass. You wouldn’t tell yourself either. A few minutes of silence were all it took for you to realise what Chan had just said.
“Chan,” you started, trying to find the right words as you stood up, “be honest with me right now, please. Do you see this thing between us going somewhere serious? I get that you lost your wife a few years ago, and I’m really sorry to hear that. And I get that you have a daughter, so you probably won’t want her to meet me this soon or anything, but-”
He kissed you.
He kissed you, and it felt like all the tension from your shoulders fell right between the two of you and then dissipated into thin air. His kiss felt like a breath of fresh air although you were losing your breath slowly, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Your hands found their way around his neck as his hands traced your waist, bringing you even closer.
You then parted; you were both breathing heavily, but Chan’s face had that dimpled smile you’d fallen for.
“I’m sorry, I just had to shut you up, y/n,” he giggled, “I do see this going somewhere and I do want you to meet Nari as soon as possible, because I don’t think I can handle another day without letting you know I love you. I love you, y/n.”
The smile you had on your face could probably brighten any of Chan’s dark days, and he just wanted to kiss you again.
“I love you, too, Chan.”
The Kids: Eldest Daughter (Juliana - 7 years old) and Youngest Daughter (Aera - 4 years old)
~°~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were exhausted. No, exhaustion wasn’t a strong enough word—you were completely drained, body and soul.
Between caring for Juliana, your seven-year-old, and Aera, your four-year-old, while being heavily pregnant, you could barely function. The constant need to be everything—mother, caretaker, wife—while Chan was away on tour was wearing you thin.
You missed him desperately. The weight of his absence was suffocating, even though you knew he was doing what he loved. Every night, the ache of missing him settled in your chest, only dulled slightly when you saw his face on FaceTime.
His mother noticed your fatigue immediately. She always did. You were visiting your in-laws' place for dinner when she brought it up.
“Sweetheart,” she said gently after dinner, “why don’t I take the kids for the night? You look like you need some rest.”
You hesitated, glancing at your daughters. Juliana was animatedly telling her grandfather a story, and Aera was already curling up against her auntie Hannah’s side, half-asleep.
A night alone. A full night of sleep. The thought was almost too tempting.
“…Are you sure?” you asked, voice filled with guilt.
His mother smiled warmly, touching your hand. “You need to take care of yourself too, honey. The baby needs you strong.”
Your resolve crumbled. You kissed your daughters goodnight, whispering reassurances that you’d be back in the morning. Then you set off for home. It was only a short drive. You didn’t even think about it—just another routine part of life.
Then, everything shattered.
Headlights. A sharp turn. Tires screeching. A deafening impact.
Pain exploded in your body. A scream made it past your lips before darkness swallowed you whole.
*********
On the other side of the world your husband, Chan, was grinning as he wiped sweat from his forehead, heart still racing from the concert. The stadium had been packed, the energy electric. Fans screamed his name, sang every word of every song, and for two and a half hours, he had been on top of the world.
But now, all he wanted was to see his girls.
His adrenaline hadn’t settled, but there was only one thing on his mind—his nightly FaceTime with you and the kids. This was his favorite part of the night—seeing his daughters’ sleepy faces, hearing you whisper, I miss you before falling asleep with your phone still connected.
Pulling out his phone, he checked the time. Time zones were tricky. He knew you would fall asleep by the time he got back at his hotel, so immediately after the concert, he waited for your call.
But the call didn’t come. He frowned, glancing at the time. Maybe you were tired. Maybe you had put the girls to bed early.
Still, something gnawed at his chest.
He was about to text you when the dressing room door opened and Changbin and Felix entered.
Chan barely looked up. “One sec, just waiting for Y/N and the girls.”
Neither of them said anything.
The silence made Chan glance up.
Changbin looked pale. Felix’s lips were pressed together tightly, like he was holding back something.
Chan’s stomach dropped.
“What?”
Neither of them spoke. The room felt colder.
“Guys?” His voice wavered slightly. “What is it?”
Felix swallowed. Changbin shifted uncomfortably.
Chan laughed, though it was shaky. “What’s going on?”
Changbin and Felix looked at each other nervously. Changbin took a step closer, “Chan, sit down.”
Chan became worried, “Is something wrong with my parents? My siblings?” He didn’t even take your name or his daughters' names because his mind refuses to go there, there cannot be anything wrong with you or the kids, nope. He scoffed lightly. “Come on, why do you guys look like that?”
Nobody laughed. His heart dropped.
Changbin took a deep breath. “Chan, it’s Y/N.”
The world tilted. Chan sat frozen, breath caught in his throat.
“There was an accident.”
His stomach churned, nausea rising to his throat. “No.” His voice cracked.
Felix reached for him, but Chan jerked back.
“No.” Chan shook his head violently. “No, she—she was just with the kids. She was on her way home—”
Felix squeezed his shoulder. “Hyung—”
No, that wasn’t right. You had just texted him hours ago. You had dinner at his parents’ house. You were fine.
“Where are the kids?” Chan demanded, voice rising. “Were they—were they with her?”
“No. They’re with your parents.”
Chan exhaled sharply, his body sagging for a moment.
Then, his expression turned ice-cold, “Where is she now?”
A suffocating silence.
“Changbin.” His voice trembled.
Changbin looked down. “She’s in surgery.”
Chan’s hands curled into fists and his breathing was ragged now, his chest rising and falling unevenly, “Book me a flight. Now.”
Chan barely heard anything else. He was already moving.
*********
The flight felt endless. Chan sat in his seat, fists clenched, his foot bouncing violently against the floor. His mind refused to shut off.
You. The baby.
You. The baby.
His brain kept repeating the same words, the same images. You, lying in a hospital bed. You, unconscious. You, hurt. He should’ve been there. He should’ve been driving you home. He should’ve told you to wait until morning. He was supposed to protect you. He wasn’t supposed to be thousands of miles away while you were fighting for your life.
Tears burned at his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. Not here. Not yet.
He was praying silently. Please. Let them be okay. Please, God.
*********
The hospital was eerily quiet at this hour. Chan ran through the corridors, barely stopping to listen to the nurses directing him. His parents were standing near your room, eyes red and swollen.
His mother turned first. When she saw him, her face crumbled, and she reached for him, “Chris—”
“Where is she?” His voice barely worked, throat dry from the flight, from the panic that had been clawing at him for hours.
His father placed a steady hand on his shoulder. “She’s inside.” His voice cracked.
Chan didn’t wait. He pushed the door open. Then he saw you and the sight nearly broke him.
You were lying on the hospital bed, wires and tubes surrounding you, your face unnaturally pale against the stark white sheets. The rhythmic beep of the monitors was the only indication that you were still there.
His stomach twisted violently.
“Baby?” His voice cracked as he took a shaky step forward.
You didn’t move. The hospital room felt suffocating.
“No,” he whispered, rushing to your bedside. “No, baby, please don’t do this.”
His hands shook as he reached for yours, wrapping his fingers around your smaller, colder ones.
“Wake up,” he pleaded, his breath hitching. “Please, baby. Please. You’re my world, you hear me? I don’t know how to be me without you.”
His vision blurred, hot tears slipping down his cheeks.
“It’s us against the world, right?” His voice cracked as he cupped your face with one hand while his other was intertwined with yours. “Juliana and Aera need you… I need you.”
Silence. His shoulders trembled as he pressed his forehead against your hand, his body shaking with the force of his grief.
“Please. Please, wake up. Please, come back to me,” he sobbed.
Minutes turned into hours then he heard a soft sound. A quiet inhale.
“…Chan?”
His head snapped up so fast his neck ached. His breath caught in his throat as he watched your eyes flutter open, unfocused and heavy with exhaustion.
“Sweetheart?” His voice was hoarse, broken.
You blinked slowly, dazed, confused. Your lips parted, dry and cracked.
“The baby?” you whispered.
The world stopped. Chan felt his chest tighten painfully, his heart screaming at him, warning him. He already heard the bad news that shattered his world, hours ago from your doctor. The words slammed into Chan’s chest like a freight train.
Before he could answer, the door opened.
Your doctor entered, clipboard in hand.
Chan’s stomach plummeted.
The doctor’s expression was calm, but his eyes held sympathy. “Mrs. Bang, how are you feeling?”
You swallowed, glancing down at your hand still held tightly in Chan’s. “Weak,” you admitted, voice barely above a whisper. “But… my baby?”
The doctor sighed softly, stepping closer.
Chan’s grip on your hand tightened.
“I’m so sorry,” the doctor said gently. “Due to the severity of the accident, you suffered a placental abruption. The trauma was too much for the baby to survive.”
Your breath hitched. Your lips parted, but no sound came out.
The doctor continued, his voice soft. “We did everything we could.”
Chan felt your entire body begin to tremble.
“No,” you whispered, your free hand pressing against your stomach as if you could somehow feel what had been lost.
“I’m so sorry,” the doctor repeated, his voice laced with sorrow.
Your breath hitched. A choked, heartbroken sob ripped from your throat, and Chan broke. Tears blurred his vision as he pulled you into his arms, holding you as tightly as he could. You sobbed against his chest, your fingers clutching at his shirt, your body wracked with grief.
“I’m sorry,” you choked out between sobs. “I’m so sorry—”
Chan cupped the back of your head, pressing his lips against your temple. His own tears fell freely, his body shaking as he held onto you.
“Don’t,” he whispered, his voice shattered. “Don’t do that. This isn’t your fault.”
You let out another sob, curling into him. “I should’ve been more careful—”
“No,” he said firmly, pulling back just enough to look into your tear-streaked face. His hands framed your cheeks, thumbs brushing away the tears that kept falling. “No, baby. This wasn’t your fault. Don’t carry this.”
Your lip trembled. “Chan—”
He shook his head, his own voice breaking. “We lost our baby. Together. You didn’t fail. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
You pressed your forehead against his, sobs still wracking your body. His hands shook as he held you tighter, as if he could somehow shield you from this pain.
“I should’ve been there,” he whispered.
You pulled back, eyes red, swollen.
“Chan—” your voice cracked. “It wasn’t your fault.”
He let out a choked sound. “It wasn’t yours either.”
You broke again, burying your face in his chest. He held you as you sobbed, as your grief tore through you both.
“We were supposed to meet them,” you whispered, voice raw. “We were supposed to hold them.”
Chan let out a choked sound, his hands tightening around you,“I know,” he whispered. “I know, baby.”
Your arms wrapped around his neck, clinging to him like he was the only thing keeping you grounded. He pressed desperate kisses against your forehead, your hair, anywhere he could reach.
“I love you,” he whispered. “We’ll get through this.”
Your breath was shaky. “How?”
He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. “I don’t know yet, but we would.”
Because he would never let go. Because you needed each other. Because even though the weight of grief was suffocating, crushing, unbearable—
You had to be brave. For Juliana. For Aera. For the family that still needed you. Chan held you even tighter, pressing his lips to your forehead, his tears mixing with yours.
“We have to be strong,” he whispered. “For them.”
Your breath hitched, your body trembling against him.
“They don’t know yet,” you whispered, voice raw.
Chan closed his eyes. The thought of his children, so innocent, so full of love and joy—waiting for you both. Not knowing the storm that had just shattered your world. His heart ached.
“We’ll tell them together,” he murmured. “When you’re ready.”
You let out a small, broken sob, gripping his shirt like a lifeline. “I don’t know how to do this, Chan.”
His hands ran up and down your back, soothing, steady, even when he felt anything but steady.
“We’ll figure it out,” he promised. “One day at a time.”
You nodded against his chest, but he could still feel the way your body trembled, the way grief clung to every breath. He exhaled shakily, pressing another kiss to your forehead. “You’re not alone in this, baby. You’ll never be alone.”
Your arms tightened around him, your fingers digging into his back. “I love you,” you whispered, voice so fragile it nearly broke him all over again.
“I love you more,” he choked out.
For a while, you just held each other.
The hospital room was quiet except for the sound of your breathing, the occasional sniffle, the weight of everything you had lost.
But outside, beyond these walls—two little children were waiting.
And no matter how shattered you both felt, no matter how much the loss threatened to pull you under, you had to keep going. For them. For your family. For the love that still remained.
It's no surprise that baby Bang is the most spoiled, protected child. The moment she came into this world, the moment Chan held her in his arms, he vowed that she'll be the most cherished in his life. (With you as well, of course).
From branded baby clothes to lavish toys in her giant playroom to literally renting a palace for her first birthday, this man has never gone by without making you worry that he might go bankrupt because of your little human.
Daddy Bang spoils his kid rotten and that's one thing. But what about uncle Hyunjin? Oh he's your biggest nightmare.
Because did you want to just see your three-year-old on top of a beautiful white horse that's ten times her size? No, you really didn't. But do you even have a saying in it? Absolutely not.
"Hyunjin, why did you even get this?" You question him, who as well was on the horse, holding your daughter protectively but the motherly instincts wouldn't let you calm down.
"She likes horses." He said nonchalantly, without sparing a glance at you, watching your baby giggle and play with the shiny mane.
"IT'S A CARTOON HYUNJIN FOR GOD SAKE AND THEY ARE PONIES!"
Chan walked into the enormous field just in time to hear your frustrated yell echo through the open space. He blinked at the sight before him—Hyunjin with his tiny, giggling niece perched in front of him, sitting on the horse.
Chan let out a slow exhale, hands on his hips. "Hyunjin," he started, voice calm but holding that distinct Dad tone. "Did you actually put my three-year-old on a horse?"
Hyunjin finally turned his head to face you both, looking far too pleased with himself. "Correction, I put our three-year-old on a majestic steed."
You groaned, rubbing your temples. "I swear, I’m this close to banning you from babysitting."
"Mommy, look!" your daughter beamed, completely oblivious to your distress, as she gently patted the horse’s mane. "Uncle Jinnie says I’m a pwincess, and pwincesses ride horses!"
You shot a glare at Hyunjin, who only smirked in response.
Chan, despite his protective dad instincts screaming at him, leaned slightly to get a better look at his daughter’s delighted face. "You like it, baby?" he asked, clearly torn between panic and pride.
"Uh-huh!" she nodded excitedly. "Horsey is so biiig, daddy!"
Chan’s lips twitched, fighting a grin. "Yeah, she is, huh?"
"Come on princess, let's go on a ride."
The second the words left Hyunjin's mouth, both you and Chan said no in unison except for your daughter on the contrary screamed, "YEAAAHH!"
"Chillax you both I've got her."
Chan exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Hyunjin, I swear—"
"Hyung, have some faith in me," Hyunjin said, already adjusting his grip on the reins. "I wouldn’t let anything happen to our little princess."
You crossed your arms, unimpressed. "Oh yeah? Just like that time you said you had ‘faith’ in your own balance and ended up falling into a fountain?"
"That was one time," Hyunjin shot back, before flashing your daughter an over-the-top grin. "Right, princess? Uncle Jinnie’s so cool, huh?"
Your daughter, in the most adorable act of betrayal, nodded enthusiastically. "Uncle Jinnie’s so cool!"
"You better hold her like your life depends on it." Chan muttered, his voice low and rough.
"Chan, please," Hyunjin scoffed, flicking his hair dramatically.
Before you could protest further, Hyunjin gave the horse a gentle nudge, and they began to move forward at a slow, steady pace.
You tensed immediately. "Oh my God—"
You both watched, frozen in place, as Hyunjin expertly guided the horse into the open field. Your daughter squealed in excitement, her tiny hands flailing in the air, and Chan instinctively reached out as if he could catch her from several feet away.
"Hyunjin, two hands on her!" you yelled.
"Relax!" Hyunjin called back, his voice light with laughter. "I have her!"
"If he drops her, I’m killing him." You muttered under your breath as you looked at Chan taking in a deep breath and then at the horse who was now gone even further into the field.
Chan's arm scooped around your waist and pressed a gentle kiss onto your temple. "He's got her sweetheart, don't worry." He said smiling.
You sighed, leaning into Chan’s warmth despite the nerves still buzzing in your chest. His steady presence was enough to ground you, even as your daughter’s delighted laughter echoed across the field.
The way her face was absolutely glowing with happiness made your heart swell, easing away your earlier worries. After a few laps, Hyunjin carefully slowed the horse and rode back toward you both, his expression smug.
"Mommy! Daddy!" she called out, practically bouncing in Hyunjin’s hold. "Did you see? I’m a real pwincess!"
Chan laughed, the sound full of love. "We saw, baby. You were amazing."
Hyunjin pulled the horse to a stop, looking far too pleased with himself. "Told you she’d love it.”
Chan cradled his daughter in his arms, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "You had fun, baby?"
"Yeaahh!" she nodded enthusiastically. "I love Uncle Jinnie!"
Hyunjin gasped, clasping his chest. "I love you too, princess.” Then, with a smirk, he sent a pointed look at Chan. "She loves me."
Chan scowled. "Oh, shut up."
Hyunjin groaned playfully, you sighed, wrapping an arm around Chan’s waist and your daughter giggled again, making all of you laugh as the sun dipped lower in the sky.
“quick” drabble about dad!Chan
Fluff | Masterlist
you get home, exhausted and pissed at everything and everyone. But the moment you see the light in your daughter, Cory and your loving husband, Chris' eyes, when they’re shouting happy birthday to you, the second you walk in, the weight lifts off your shoulders. you're home, home to them, the two people you love the most in the whole world. Chris bends down to pick Cory up and lifts her up on his shoulders. He groans, "ah, you're starting to get too big for this, C" he chuckles slighty and greets you with a kiss on the lips. "happy birthday, my love. we baked and ordered your favorite!" you chuckle, "yeah, I can see that," you look over his shoulder, into the kitchen, dirty with flour everywhere. "sorry about that, we uh- couldn't decide which cake to bake and this little devil," he tickles Cory's feet "decided that the flour looked way better in my hair than in the bowl." "it's not my fault you couldn't remember mom's favorite cake." Cory pouts "It's alright," you chuckle, "I'll clean it, just start eating, I'll join you in a bit" you take off your jacket and head towards the kitchen, but Chris grabs your wrist. "you, are not lifting a finger on your birthday, especially not after a nine hour work day"
You pause for a moment and just look into his eyes, and then sigh, "you're right, work was horrible. but I forgot all about it, the second i walked in and saw those beautiful eyes of yours." you smile
"are you talking about these gorgeous eyes, or dad's?" Cory asks, and you chuckle, "I think both of your eyes are absolutley beautiful. you know, your eyes actually remind me alot of your dad when he was younger"
"enough chatting, let's go eat"
-
“And now Cory is asleep,” you say to Chris, standing and washing dishes. He dries his hands and gently grabs your waist, “did it end up being an okay day, even after work?” He looks at you with wonder and worry, “yeah, it was absolutely great,” kiss “Thank you, baby.”
Chris smiles and kisses the top of your head, “I’m glad. You always tell me how terrible Friday shifts are, and I was worried it was gonna be too much.” You nuzzle against his chest, nothing to hear but his calming heartbeat and his arms sneak around your waist.
“Cory is getting so big already. I feel like we got home from the hospital yesterday” he sighs and buries his face in the crook of your neck, his breath tickling you slightly. “You miss having a baby in the house?”
“You know, even through the sleepless nights, tons of dirty laundry and your weird cravings, I do, yeah.” He pulls away from you neck and looks deeply into your eyes, “I really miss it,” his eyes flicks between yours, “I… I wanna have another baby with you, love.”
You blush at the confession. To be honest, you missed it too. And you read on some website for new parents, that kids grow up better with a sibling, and not to mention how great a sister Cory would be.
Chris blushes and blinks a few times “Not that it has to be right now-“ but you simply answer him with a kiss “I would love to have another baby with you, Chris. Now or later, whenever you’re ready”
Chris’ cheeks heat up and he hides his shy smile. “I… I would love to have a second kid with you, as soon as possible. But it’s your choice”
You chuckle, even after 9 years of being together you still have your shy moments. “Cory is sleeping over at a friend’s tomorrow, so we have the house all to ourselves.”
Chris chuckles, “mm, gonna make a baby with you tomorrow”
“How romantic.”
-
Hands locked together as you both stare at the test. The two minutes seems like two hours. The suspense between the two of you, the way Chris holds your hand tightly and the comfortable silence reminds you of 5 years earlier, when you where in the same situation. You had talked about kids and before you knew it, Cory was born, and now you’re sitting here, waiting for the test result, five years later.
“How long?” Chris asks and you reach for your phone, “30 seconds” he brings your hands up to his mouth and gives yours a kiss. “If it isn’t positive, we’ll just try again. I can get my parents or one of the guys to take care of Cory.” He’s right. It wasn’t that big of a deal, why be so nervous? You could always try again. “Yeah,” you sigh “you’re right. I don’t know why I’m so nervous” you chuckle. “It’s alright. I’m nervous too.”
The timer goes off and you take a quick look at each other. Chris’ eyes are filled with love, and the second your eyes meet you can almost see the weight lift off his shoulders. Sometimes you wonder how you got so lucky.
You reach for the test, flipping it over. There it was. A clearly positive pregnancy test. You both stare at it for a few seconds, blinking before looking back at each other and bursting out in smiles. “I’m pregnant, Chris” you chuckle. He pulls you into a hug and kisses the top of your head, “I know, baby, I know.” His voice breaks and you sit there, crying out of joy.
“I love you so fucking much”
“I love you more”
