In my opinion, the 4th book (Path of the Diamond) would've made for a great ending to the series. The other two books are great, but the 4th one just seemed like it was ready to wrap up most of the loose ends.

Artwork appears from the other 3 books/earlier in Path of the Diamond while Runt reminisces on how much his life has changed since the first book

Breeze accepts that Villagetown is her village too

The last page totally closes out the whole thing perfectly

Maybe yes, it was just meant to finish off that last chapter of Runt's life; I just wonder how much more different it would be if the ending was left more ambiguous/open ended. I think that it could've still worked out if the ending was ambiguous after Path of the Diamond.
