August has mainly been consumed by moving country, moving job, and moving house so I've not really had any free time to do anything or have any thoughts other than panicked screaming.

That being said, there were plenty of dramas I was looking forward to due to air in August and, luckily for me, most of them did not disappoint! So without further ado, let's take a look at which dramas got me through the mountains of paperwork and stress (and which didn't).

The Trainee 🇹🇭 👨‍❤️‍👨👩‍❤️‍👨(👩‍❤️‍👩) [10/12]

I'm going to be so sad when this show ends.

It has met and matched all my expectations so far and in terms of its narrative arcs it's absolutely fantastic (as are the characters and their relationships).

This is a show that does have romance in it but which isn't about romance, choosing to focus instead on character development both within and outside of the characters' various relationships. It's done a great job of showcasing the complex period of transition between young adulthood and working adulthood and while I know that's not everyone's cup of tea, it's definitely mine. Slow-burn, character centred, slice-of-life.... Perfection 😘👌

I started watching these next few dramas after I started moving and so really don't have any other capacity for thoughts other than "like" and "don't like". There's not going to be much commentary, just vibes.

Love Next Door 🇰🇷👩‍❤️‍👨 [5/16]

I was looking forward to this one and it's making me very happy so far. I love the bickering, I like the hints at deeper relationship issues and I'm just plain looking forward to whenever a new episode airs.

I'd say the only thing that's giving me pause so far is the second couple, especially Mo-Eun because wtf do you mean "the 5 year old child I just met is actually my new friend"? I don't care that she meant it innocently, that's still a damn weird thing to say.

Romance in the House 🇰🇷👩‍❤️‍👨 [5/12]

Korea has been really knocking it out of the house with mother daughter dramas recently, I want to know what lit the spark now.

Again, I'm enjoying each episode as it comes and I'm looking forward to each new episode so it's a yes from me so far. It's definitely giving me Not Others vibes but given I really like that drama, that's not a criticism.

(Also the award for most complicated family tree goes to Romance in the House but it also manages to make it work?)

Cinderella at 2AM 🇰🇷👩‍❤️‍👨 [2/10]

I saw someone say that a drama where the leads are already together at the start of the drama is lazy but I'm inclined to disagree.

Pretty much every romance has the leads fall in love and get together as the show progresses, there's a tried and tested route map for that (heck there's loads of route maps for that). On the other hand, I can't think of many that start with the couple 2 years into the relationship and, as such, there's probably a lot more work involved in working out how to successfully pull the romance off.

So far I have no complaints and I'm intrigued about where it's actually going to go. It's not particularly deep but it is cute and Shin Hyun Bean is who I'm here for anyway.

My Sweet Mobster 🇰🇷👩‍❤️‍👨

This was a very cute, very funny watch that still somehow managed to tackle a serious topic with as much care as it could. Could it have delved even further into the topic of restorative criminal justice and rehabilitation? Yes, but not without completely changing the mood. Could it have subverted the "knew each other from childhood" trope and done something new? Yes, but this show wasn't going for reinventing the wheel, it was going for doing the wheel well.

The characters were very likeable, the relationships between them were beautifully written and it was a nice easy watch that I'll probably pick up again some time in the future if I need something fun.

Concrete Utopia 🇰🇷📽️

I watched this with family friends after they very kindly let me stay with them for a week and wanted to watch something with me they thought I'd enjoy. I had never heard of the film before so had no expectations whatsoever but it was a surprisingly deep and timely watch.

It spends a lot of time examining the effects of "othering" as well as asking how much people are willing to excuse, ignore or even participate in in the name of self preservation and there were definitely some scenes that felt barely exaggerated given what's been on the news in recent months.

I wouldn't call it an enjoyable watch (because the consequences of post-apocalyptic dystopias are hardly enjoyable) but it was an interesting one and I'd probably recommend it to a friend looking for a film to watch.

Knock Knock Boys! 🇹🇭👨‍❤️‍👨

I was late picking up Knock Knock Boys! but, once I did, I binged it without any regrets. This was another show that was just cute and fun and very, very good at handling the topics it chose to tackle.

Latte is a new favourite character and Almond, Thanwa, Peak and all the rest all have a little space in my heart now (Jane especially). If anyone wants a comedy/slice of life BL to watch then I'd definitely point them in this dramas direction and them watch them watch it 😋

(also I don't know how but I somehow managed to miss the infamous poo scene everyone was talking about... Which is probably just as well because I don't deal well with scatological humour).

Century of Love 🇹🇭👨‍❤️‍👨 [Dropped]

I'm sad about this one because I was looking forward to catching up with it after I got distracted by Knock Knock Boys but now I'm very grateful for being made to stray. This show had such a promising start but, judging by everything I saw in passing, it dropped the ball hard in the second half.

Given everything else going on right now and the fact that my drama quota is pretty much full up right now, I'm not really interested in investing time in a show that doesn't meet its own potential.

Monster Next Door 🇹🇭👨‍❤️‍👨 [Dropped]

This had the weirdest pacing of a first episode I've seen in a while and it really threw me off. I just couldn't connect with anything or anyone after the multiple false starts and I wasn't curious to keep trying.

(Also the tortoise tank made me wince every time it was on screen)

(Also yes I know I said I was hyped for this one but I think the idea appealed far more than the reality of it).

Battle of the Writers 🇹🇭👨‍❤️‍👨 [Dropped]

Just a no from me to be honest. I don't think it checked any of the boxes of things I usually enjoy and that's okay.

4Minutes 🇹🇭👨‍❤️‍👨 [On Hold] [4/8]

Don't get me wrong!!! I have loved everything I've seen so far of this drama (I'm up to episode 4). The only reason 4Minutes is here instead of in the "Currently Watching" section is because I wasn't able to keep up with it while I was travelling and I want to give it the right amount of time and attention when I catch up with it.

I'm a little sad I can't join in with the theories but I'm really looking forward to getting back to it when I'm ready!

(Also I finally own a TV after 10 years of not having one and I'm mentally preparing myself for watching it on a big screen, something the first 3 episodes have indicated is a high risk manoeuvre that may involve drawn curtains and a finger on the volume button to avoid questions from my neighbours).

Midnight Romance in Hagwon 🇰🇷👩‍❤️‍👨 [On Hold] [4/16]

Like 4Minutes, this isn't a matter of not enjoying it, this is a matter of time and focus. I couldn't watch it while I was traveling and now I am way too stressed, and thus easily distracted, to give this show the thought and attention it deserves.

It has been a fantastic watch so far though, and the level of detail in each scene was so ridiculously impressive to the point where I was frequently going back to check I hadn't missed any of the nuance 👌

I barely know what's up now, let alone next so I can't really do this section. That being said, I know I'm hyped for Love In the Big City (🇰🇷👨‍❤️‍👨) and that's airing in October so that's all the really matters at the moment. If anything else comes up that I want to watch, that's a nice little bonus.

(There are other dramas I'm looking forward to - like Kidnap (🇹🇭👨‍❤️‍👨) - but I have no clue when they're airing and I don't have the brain power to check and make a calendar so I'm just going to be pleasantly surprised when they start rather than actively anticipating their release).

Lay- I don't know what's going on but it's like his putting in a lot of work and putting in the time but he's not really seeing a lot of money for it. Whatever he's doing these days for money seems like dead end jobs that won't really get him anywhere financially but leaves him feeling burnt out. Also, he's spending a lot of money on a romantic relationship, buying them gifts and possibly funding his lovers life style. It's like hes taking his girl on a bunch of shopping sprees that he lowkey can't afford. You hesitated "can I unclip your mic pack?" which was on his boxers. He nodded "sure want some help?" and turned to face you making you blush at how close to his bare chest he was. Given the height difference, you were inches away from his pecks too. "No it's fine!" you said and quickly, hardly touching him, unclipped it. Then you began to unwind the wire and did it so carefully not to brush him with your hands. "You don't have to be so gentle" Sehun smiled "I promise I'm not fragile, you can touch me". His words made you blush and you couldn't disguise your flustered response. "It's okay" was all you managed and finished taking the microphone wire from around Sehun's neck. Sehun smiled at you as you did it and kept eye contact. "Thanks Y/n you're amazing". "No problem" you said and went to leave when Sehun kept talking. "I have a question about this" he said pointing to the shirt you'd given him. You nodded trying to act like he wasn't almost naked. "Yeah so which order did you want the clothes in again.". You explained he should put on the vest then the shirt and finally the jacket. He nodded "a lot of layers, anyone would think you like covering me up" and he stretched his arms behind his head exposing more of his chest. You shook your head "no it's just a winter concept" "oh good so are there any hot summer ones?" he asked "maybe I can go like this, what do you think?" he asked gesturing to himself. You blushed and Sehun smiled "Y/n you're not looking". "I am" you argued very focused on his face and Sehun smirked "yeah but not at the rest of me, you need to look to work out if summer looks would work on me. It's okay, inspect me". His eyebrow rose as he said that and you got the feeling he was enjoying this. So trying to remain professional, you looked at Sehun's body from the bottom to the top and ignored the look on his face. "You look very good" you nodded and Sehun smiled "you think so?". You nodded "yes" and Sehun noticed you swallow. "You seem tense" he said laying a hand on your arm and then he moved it to your forehead brushing your cheek with his fingers "why is that?". You blushed "I'm not sure?". "Really?" he asked "I don't think you're telling the truth" and you blushed even more. You sent to speak when a voice called "Y/n where are you?". Your boss. You blushed "I have to go" and stepped out of the curtain. Sehun wished he just got 1 more minute with you then he'd have gotten you to crack and the fun stuff would've started but it was okay. He'd find another time. Now he knew you were into him, he'd stop at nothing to seduce you.

He told his members as much on their way home and some were shocked having not heard this before. "You like your stylist?" Suho asked and Sehun nodded "she's really attractive and totally had a thing for me". "How do you know?" Xiumin asked and Baekhyun smiled "because her eyes nearly popped out of her head seeing Sehun topless". Sehun smiled "and I did more tonight and she was like putty in my hands". "What do you mean you did more tonight?" Chen asked and Sehun grinned "I got her to come help take my mic pack off, in just my boxers". "You did what!" Suho cried and the guys were a mix of mortified and amused at Sehun's nerve. "In the room full of people?" Lay asked and Sehun nodded "yep and she was so close to cracking too. I got her to inspect me and tell me what she thought. The look on her face was so hot! We were inches apart and she wanted me so bad". Lay shook his head "you are brave, anyone could've walked in and caught you". "I know that's what made it so hot" he laughed but Xiumin shook his head "not really, you know Y/n would've been fired if you'd been caught right?". "What? No, I've got naked in front of plenty of stylists" Sehun said. "Wait what?" Kai asked but Suho sighed "Xiumin's right, any compromising position you two find yourself in Y/n will be blamed. You could cost her a job if you're not careful". "I'll be careful" Sehun said "but there's no way I'm giving up". Kai nodded "great now want to explain that whole naked with stylists thing?". Sehun shrugged "it's easier than getting changed behind a screen so if there's only a few of us I'll change in front of them". Baekhyun shook his head "you are a leaked photo waiting to happen" and Sehun shrugged "everyone's already seen that" making the guys laugh. "That might be true but save it for Y/n ey?" Baekhyun asked and Sehun nodded "good idea". So Sehun figured he couldn't get naked at work again. He didn't want the managers to think something was going on and fire you before he got to go out with you so he was more subtle. He flirted with you at work, made lots of eye contact and just tried to do everything to increase the budding sexual chemistry between you...then one day he was rewarded for all his hard work.  Through some asking around Sehun knew you lived near him but he had no idea how close until he turned down a side street to fix his sunglasses and saw you there. You were fiddling with a car he assumed to be yours and looked anxious. Sehun hopped out of his car and tried not to smile too much as he came over. "Everything okay?" he called and you looked over. You saw him and did a double take "Sehun...what are you doing here?". "I was on my way to work and spotted you. Turns out we're neighbours". You paused "oh really?". Sehun nodded "do you need a lift?". "It's okay I'm sure it will start soon" you said. "Are you sure?" he asked "I can take you it's no bother and you can call breakdown in the car. That way you won't be late". You paused looking at your watch and then at him "you don't mind?". He shook his head "not at all" and you nodded "okay yes please". Sehun practically beamed and led you to his car happily. A huge smile on his face as he opened his door for you. Sehun set off driving very excited to have you beside him in the car and was doing some chatting and flirting when you happened to mention the event where Sehun got you to help untangle him from his mic pack. It was too good an opportunity to pass so Sehun smiled. “Yeah it was a good event but I was annoyed when we got interrupted in the dressing room". He glanced over and saw you pause "you were? Why?".  "I felt like you were going to tell me something important". You were obviously less susceptible when Sehun was fully clothed because you laughed. "Was there something you wanted me to say?". Sehun loved your flirty tone and smiled looking at you "many many things Y/n but all in good time". You chuckled and Sehun looked over at you "I'm really glad you got transferred to me, gave me a reason to look forward to work". "What doing your passion for a wealthy living while wearing nice clothes and being surrounded by talented good looking idols wasn't enough?". Sehun shrugged "you're an added bonus but going back to that comment. You think my members are handsome?". You shrugged "yeah they all are". "But who do you think is the hottest?" Sehun asked. "I'm guessing there's only one right answer?" you asked and Sehun laughed "no answer honestly. I want to know who you're attracted to, if there are any guys that are your type". You'd done well to dodge his questions this far but realised now you were parked and Sehun with Sehun's gaze directly on you, there was truly only one name coming to mind.

"Probably you" you admitted and Sehun smiled "are you just saying that to please me?". You shook your head "no I think you're the hottest" and Sehun smiled "what a coincidence, I feel the same way about you". You blushed as he moved closer. "You know if your manager hadn't appeared I would've loved to kiss you that day" Sehun said. You blushed and he smiled "but maybe I can make up for it now...if you want me to?". You stared at him conflicted before nodding and Sehun moved in. Sehun moved quickly like someone who knew what he wanted and he set the pace from the start. He was very good and you quickly realised this was the smartest dumb decision you'd ever made. When Sehun's neck started hurting from bending over he asked if he could move you onto his lap and you agreed coming to straddle him. That drove Sehun crazy and he ran his hands up and down your waist and thighs while kissing you anywhere he could. You sighed when he got a sensitive part of your neck and Sehun paused. "The way you say my name is so hot" Sehun said and you blushed "it's just how I say your name" but he shook his head "no it isn't...you do a little moan when you say it and god I want to hear you do it more". You paused feeling very warm and were aware if Sehun kept talking like this you'd become very acquainted with one another very quickly. "Sehun I...maybe we should pause" you said and Sehun looked at you "you want to stop?". You shook your head "I don't want to but we're in the company car park anyone could walk past". Sehun paused before nodding "you're right, I can't get good movement in here and I want nothing stopping me with you". You blushed at how casually he said that and he smiled "so what are you doing after work?". You could see the want in his eyes and a thought occurred to you. He knew you were into him and purposefully stripped off to tease you, so some payback was due. "Hmmm I'll have to see, I might be busy tonight" you said and Sehun paused "busy?". You nodded "yeah I'm a popular girl Sehun but thanks for the lift" and with a kiss to his lips, you climbed off him and got out of the car. Sehun lay back in his seat very frustrated and confused but more convinced than ever that he wanted you...and that he'd get you.   Sehun came in a little later and his members all gave him grief for being late and got on with rehearsal. "Why were you late?" Chanyeol asked and Sehun smiled "Y/n's car broke down so I bought her into work and we got distracted". The guys all looked at him and D.O. paused "you didn't". "We made out" Sehun smiled "and man she was so good!". The guys all laughed and Kai shook his head "I'm surprised you made it in at all". Sehun shrugged "well I nearly didn't but Y/n stopped me and erm kinda left me in the middle of it". The guys laughed "ahhh so that's why you look so moody!" Chen said and Sehun frowned "I asked her if we could finish it after work and she said she might be busy with this beautiful smirk. She's teasing me now!". "Well you can't say it isn't deserved" Lay said and the others all agreed, making Sehun pout until Baekhyun suggested "if she's teasing you why don't you just do the same thing?". "What?" Sehun asked and Baekhyun smiled "you know she likes you and she works here so go find her and tease her back. It's a game of chicken and I don't think you can outlast her but go remind her what she liked about you in the first place". "But what if someone catches them?" Suho asked and Baekhyun shook his head "I'm not telling him to go sleep with her! Just flirt and drive her a little crazy". Sehun loved that idea and was out of the door before Suho could even remind him he'd done zero rehearsing. Sehun headed downstairs to the costume department and knocked before entering. "Hey" he said waving to your boss who was standing in the middle of the room. You were in the back behind her and the look on your face when you spotted him was beautiful. "I had some free time and thought I'd hang out up here if that's okay?". Your boss paused before nodding "of course Sehun but isn't there anywhere else you'd rather be?". He made eye contact with you behind her and shook his head "no, I've always been interested in this and thought I might learn a thing or two from Y/n. If she doesn't mind me watching". "No of course not, do you?" your boss asked and you shook your head "not at all" and turned back to what you were doing. Sehun came to stand behind you. Close enough that you could feel his presence but not so close that it would look odd to anyone. Sehun stayed close behind you in silence for a few seconds before speaking. "Who are you styling this outfit for?" Sehun asked and you paused "a member of NCT". "Cool... which one?" he asked. "Yuta" you said and Sehun paused looking at it "that's a lot of exposed skin...are you into Yuta too?". "Too?" you whispered, "who said I'm into anyone?". "Your panting in my car when I ran my hands up and down you" Sehun said making your stomach clench "but you didn't answer my question". "Yuta is very fashionable and easy to style" you said "but no I'm not into him". Sehun smiled "why do you never put me in stuff like this?" leaning over you to touch the material "I know you'd love it". You swallowed "I don't know..." and Sehun smiled "or maybe you want the first time you see me like this to be where we're alone? Then again you have already seen me naked". "I haven't seen you naked you had underwear on" you said and Sehun smiled "yeah but they didn't leave much to the imagination and I saw you looking...you don't have to imagine you know. I can show you very easily". You stepped away and moved to the accessories and Sehun followed. "So that's why you followed me? To get me to sleep with you?". Sehun shook his head "I merely came here to show you I want you and can play seductress too. I know you want me and wondered if you wanted to call a truce yet?". "Hmm not quite yet" you said and turned back to the mannequin. "Fine by me" Sehun said "but you'll be seeing a lot more of me...unless you want me to leave and never bother you again?”. You paused as Sehun stared at you and couldn't bring yourself to say some witty remark. So you just looked down, shaking your head and Sehun smiled "see you very soon beautiful" and he walked out of the room. Even after he'd left your heart was still hammering and your hands were shaking...but you also felt so excited and turned on. You had no idea what you'd gotten yourself into but couldn't wait to find out.

Okay but I genuinely think Sehun is one of the hottest idols in the industry, he’s just so naturally beautiful it’s no wonder he got discovered!

So because I couldn’t cope with Sehun’s hotness this will be a longer series with four parts and they will be released weekly.

christmas open mic kou performing ... d.o that's okay

it hadn't been something he'd planned. though again, kou was never someone who meshed well with the idea of planning – for some reason, his life had always felt like a pile of things accidentally falling into place.

it comes in hushed whispers from the trainees at the building. an open mic night – a somewhat good way to try and get some exposure and experience. probably not the most effective, but the trainees there seemed desperate enough to grab onto anything. and most of them genuinely seemed as though they liked the idea of performing for a crowd.

"you should do it too kou," a trainee says, nudging kou's shoulder.

"huh? me?"

"why not? you've been here for a month already. don't you wanna see how much you've improved?"

kou blinks. "i don't think i've improved that much though..."

it's his turn to step on stage. the idea of performing in front of a crowd isn't foreign to him, he's done it enough in japan, and more often than one would think in korea ( next gen and dead calm ), but it's a little different now, standing on stage alone with nothing but his guitar and just a month's worth of training on his back.

"uhm, hello. i'm sato kou," he bows, and his head accidentally hits the mic, causing it to make a high pitched noise. "oh sorry," he says, blinking. "i'll be performing a song, that i've been really into lately. it's called that's okay."

he wants to say something else, wants to say that this song is dedicated to a special person, someone he holds close to his heart and can't seem to stop thinking about. that the lyrics have somehow perfectly expressed his own emotions. but he doesn't, because he's both short on time and isn't sure if a trainee publicly professing their love for someone else is the best thing to do.

"so for y...ou... all out there, that's okay." close enough.

he strums his guitar and a soft melody begins to play, no longer is he the boy that had accidentally hit his head on the microphone.

i feel like i'm losing myself in the many emotions that have gone by from a certain point, i became used to the rules i follow to hide my heart, oh, uh, oh

he begins to sing, and quite honestly he feels as though there's been some sort of improvement with his pronunciation. he continues to sing, voice floating through the crowd.

like time passing all the happy days and all the heart-breaking days i’m naturally letting them go like the sun and moon that rises and sets

he's a lot more comfortable now, singing. though as he's singing, a face appears in the back of his head. singing is the closest thing to pouring his heart out, and he feels as though he's doing so in front of a crowd. an unspoken public confession.

it's then when he tears his eyes away from his guitar and looks up at the audience. yuwol is there, yuwol is there and he's looking at him and kou wants to rip out his soul and give it to yuwol right there and then. he wants to place it on a silver platter, he wants the words – his voice – to be the only thing that yuwol can focus on.

his heart tightens and there's a sort of fluttering in his chest that seems to have been bottled up from his stomach. butterflies, is what they call it. he can't seem to tear his eyes away from yuwol. so pretty, so so pretty. in a sea of people, his eyes can only spot yuwol.

like the countless stars always in the same place i'll shine as much as i can so don’t hide yourself but show me you, just as you are, it’s alright, it’s alright

he smiles, and it's bright. kou's never been a big smiler, his own mother had pointed it out to him years ago ( you can't keep that blank expression forever! ) but when he's with yuwol – when he sees yuwol, he's so overwhelmed with happiness that smiling only feels natural.

it's alright, it's alright.

today, for the first time i faced my honest heart i even hesitate to stand in front of the mirror why is my face so awkward?

he likes yuwol. kou likes yuwol, he really likes yuwol. that is his honest heart. he wonders momentarily if yuwol can understand the depth of his feelings? if the song is reaching him? and then, he wonders if he'll ever reach yuwol.

all the unspoken worries all the deeply paved scars time always passes at the same speed tt will wash it all away just like always so you can just go with the flow, it’s alright, it’s alright

he ends off the song with the chorus, his fingers against the guitar strings slowly fading away. "thank you," he says into the mic, before bowing. once more, the top of his head hits the mic and a loud echo spreads across the bar. "oh, sorry."

I was reading your reading about D.O leaving SM and focus on acting is will be a similar situation like Suzy (Miss A) since she is more focus in acting and is only singing some OST?

Yes but I think DO prefers more movies than dramas if he could choose. He may have the occasional OST, single, or album but I don't think he'd be releasing tons of music like 1 album or more per year sort of thing.

Last Song: About Time by D.O. I've been listening to his albums a lot recently and every time I still feel my breath catch a little at his voice.

Favourite Colour: I keep saying it's blue (and it is) but I somehow keep ending up buying things that are either pink or yellow so.....

Currently Watching:

- My Sweet Mobster (when a rom-com advocates for réhabilitation rather than punishment... it works surprisingly well)

- The Trainee (in love with the series and the characters, a potential new favourite)

- Century of Love (really enjoying it but I need to catch up to it because I got distracted by:)

- Knock Knock Boys (the GIFs worked, I couldn't not check this out and I binged it in 2 days, I would fight for Latte's happiness).

- Shogun (Henry Blackthorn annoys me so much BUT at least it's as a person rather than as a character so the writing is solid)

- Spy X Family (pure joy in 25 minute blocks)

I tried out Serendipity's Embrace yesterday but it didn't feel like something I'd enjoy so that's moving to my "not interested" pile.

I also have planned binges for Bangkok Blossom, The Glory (S1 and 2) and The Crowned Clown to try and clear some of my To Watch list.

Last Movie: I don't watch many movies at all BUT I did recently watch Moonlit Winter and all I can say is watch it watch it watch it. I actually cried, not sad tears, but happy cathartic tears because of how beautifully the movie portrayed the relationship between the mother and daughter.

Otherwise it would have been Inside Out 2, which I can now recommend as an excellent educational tool to use for kids just about to experience puberty and all the new emotions that come with it.

Currently Reading:

Ancestors: A Prehistory of Britain in 7 Burials by Professor Alice Roberts. And look, I know it sounds dry but it's really well written, covers eras of history there is still very little known about, and has an excellent chapter in which the author dismantles TERF and gender essentialist talking points using archaeology.

I've also just finished Spy X Family vol. 11 (now waiting for vol. 12) and I'm about to start Twilight Out of Focus (I can't watch the anime until I've read the manga) and read Red Thread vol. 2 (the manga based on UWMA).

Just my opinion but all the talk of dy not pushing himself enough to sing better makes me think that he should put his singing passion filled career aside and focus on being a world wide celebrity (acting/brand ambassadorship/showing up to red carpets). Because being an idol makes you famous to a certain group of people and from what I’ve observed in the past he’s looking to have a huge following and influence and although they’re really successful, nct is just known to kpop fans, and mostly those who started with 3rd gen

Doyoung wants to sing for a lot of people, perform on huge stadiums, not just be known and recognised as a person. He still has the mentality of a commoner (the way he was flustered when random people started to sing Happy Birthday for Taeyong during their dinner at a restaurant). He talks about his ambition to be a famous singer, for 127 to stay in history, for newer idols to look up to them. It's different from wanting to be famous for the sake of fame and people praising you (like a lot of pop-stars who can't really sing do).

Doyoung is pushing himself to sing better, to develop his vocal techniques and widen his range. As was mentioned before, he is one of the few idols who do that. The readers before were talking about Doyoung staying in the comfort genre zone, not venturing for a different sound/way of singing.

The things you listed won't make him more famous anyway. Nobody knows D.O. as a Korean actor aside from EXO-Ls, brand deals come with Do gaining fame as an idol (even for G-Dragon, the fashionista and trend-setter, it is the same).

"Being famous to a certain group of people" goes for everyone in our age, the Internet and socmed create infobubbles for people, there are fewer and fewer globally known stars. Unless you are a fan of football you don't know the famous sportsmen. For the rest of people outside of UK Beckham is Posh Spice's husband. I'd never heard about this Haaland guy before.

What Doyoung and neos should do to break out of the confines of the k-pop world is to collab with other artists, sing OSTs for popular non-Korean tv-series, appear on famous shows.

OSTs and variety shows give Doyoung recognition outside of k-pop in SK. His voice was recognised right away by some of the viewers of the tv-series his last OST is for.
