Something, something ... parallels. When I was 10yo and watching DBZ for the first time, when it was first aired in Germany, this was my favourite scene in the entirety of DBZ, and it still is to this day:

When the people of Earth all give their energy for the final genkidama that's supposed to finish off Buu.

Linking the German version so you can experience the original soundtrack (I'm sorry, the US dub soundtrack (and the Kai soundtrack for the Buu Saga) can NOT measure up the glory of the original one, and I'm so grateful the German dub kept it):

I was (and am to this day) utterly in love with this particular track, so much that I simply needed to have it with me, at all times.

And here's how I got it in ye olden days before Youtube (well, before I had internet access and knew about YT to MP3 converting lmao):

I had this particular episode taped on VHS (I'm That Old)

I took my phone (Nokia that had the luxury of a COLOR display) and recorded the track. You could literally hear the people cheer on the recording

I put this recording on my phone and listened to it

Yes the quality was crappy. I didn't care

Now, I have it on my MP3 player lol. Still randomly listen to it sometimes <3

So, the things about DBZ that were the most formative to me are: this scene, and Vegeta (who started my love for reformed villains and redemption arcs).

Ok, this has nothing to do with the point I'm trying to make, I just needed to clarify just how emotionally invested I am here.

Now, two decades later, Super gives me this:

Moro Arc, DBS chapter 61

They probably thought nothing of it, but back in the Buu Saga it was Vegeta who came up with the genkidama plan: to take the energy of everyone on Earth, and other planets too, to defeat an enemy too strong for any single person to handle.

Vegeta, the guy who's perpetually allergic to ask for help.

Now, it's Vegeta who does the opposite, and yet, the same: he takes energy that was stolen, and returns it to where it belongs, literally giving people their lives back in some cases. (The symbolism of the Namekians being the ones revived by him is CRAZY.)

And the imagery is so similar? I just. ??!?!?!?! HOW AM I TO DEAL.

That's the god ki Uub sent, and Vegeta is the one to throw it to Goku to give him the power he needs to end Moro.

And that power literally comes from the reincarnation of the very being they destroyed last time? OH WOW.

(Initially I wasn't so sure what to think about this particular point but hey, the D in Dragon Ball stands for Deus Ex Machina, so ... whatever.)

I'm like. Did they do this on purpose? Is this coincidence?

Also funny how Buu Saga was the whackiest in DBZ while Moro Saga in DBS is a goddamn fucking masterpiece.

Amberprice Fanfic Compilation

To whom it may concern,

I've been felling quite shitty lately and nostalgia is the only thing keeping me breathing, therefore I'll be providing you the best Amberprice fanfic recommendation you didn't ask for.

Previous warnings before you proceed: a. Amberpricefield it's not my cup of tea, so you won't find any here; b. This was made completely based on my own literaly taste (don't come for me if you hated it all); c. Castles in the Air by Scorpion_Queen (https://archiveofourown.org/works/19161673/chapters/45544687) When I started my marathon of reading Amberprice Fanfic until my eyes stopped working, something that really pissed me of was the over-the-top romanticization of Chloe and Rachel. For me, the beauty in their characters was the visible flaws, that's what made them "touchable". No one is completely good or bad (except Mark Jefferson, fuck him), and this author understood beautifully this assignment. Definelly a must read if you like the nuances of their relationship. Chloe and Rachel are actually Chloe and Rachel in this one.

3. Slumber Party Rules by Scorpion_Queen (https://archiveofourown.org/works/28055220) At this point you must think that I'm in love with Scorpion_Queen. Well, you're completely correct! It's been a while since I loved so much an authors work that I wasted long hours reading all their pieces. I couldn't thank Scorpion enough for that. Basically, this one shot involves a game of truth or dare from Max pov. It was very interesting seeing how other characters interpret the relationship between Chloe and Rachel.

4. Coward by Mogatrat (https://archiveofourown.org/works/11067531) Smut + Angst = pain. I'm a huge simp for authors that shows the ambiguous relationship between them. It's a very quick read, ideal for poop time (that's me trying to be funny).

5. Every Move Just for Herself by Mogatrat (https://archiveofourown.org/works/15923051) Mogatrat do a FINE job when the business is Smutt + Angst. Also, the internalized homophobia is *chief kiss*. This is a very quick read, so you know...

6. Pink Bubblegum by Danganphobia (https://archiveofourown.org/works/13155687) This one just fells like home. It's the type of reading that just fells right, you know? It's easy and uncomplicated. 10. So, You're a Fatalist Then? by Dandybear (https://archiveofourown.org/works/12434655) After I read this one, it took me a while to read another Amberprice Fanfic. I have this theory that most of us reads to live a life that do not belong to us. We have the privilege to simply escape. And I loved to escape the fact that Chloe and Rachel never left Arcadia Bay. This piece reminded me what actually happened.

Can't Complain About Much These Days by breezered (https://archiveofourown.org/works/13267965) Do you remember the cutscene in the end of Before The Storm where Chloe paints her hair completely blue? Well, I hope you do, because Rachel helps her out in this one. Believe me when I tell you that you need a little bit of fluffy after the last one.

I've been staring at my computer screen for a embarassing amount of time trying to describe how this made me fell so I can indoctrinate you to also read it, but I'm failing horribly. Do you know that book that list 1001 things you have to do before dying? Well, if I've written that book, reading this fanfic would be one of those things. These are just in order of what I remember 

1) The Little Mermaid

I loved this movie so much that I basically broke our vhs tape of it. I don’t remember exactly what caught my eye but it was probably mermaids bc I thought they were so cool. Also singing because I love musicals.

2) George of the Jungle

I thought this movie was the peak of comedy. I watched it recently and wasn’t as enamored (not a fan of fake gorilla) but it holds a place in my heart. And the phrase “watch out for that tree” plays in my head to this day

3) The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride

HE IS NOT ONE OF US, HE WILL NEVER BE ONE OF US. I watched this whenever I was sick. I also have seen it more than I have seen the first one. I liked having a female main character and also loved the music. Yes, I also liked Kovu, shut up.

4) Shaolin Soccer

This scene right here where you see his butt was literally the funniest thing in the world to me as a kid. I still love the movie, its funny and crazy. This and Kung Fu Hustle hold dear places in my heart (though I didn't get to see Kung Fu Hustle till I was a bit older)

5) Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Still love this movie, Monty Python shaped so much of what my sense of humor is today. I will still quote it often.

6) Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Without fail, the shire song makes me feel like crying, it feels like home. I watched the movies with my family a lot as a kid and still love them to this day. Who doesn't want to go on a harrowing magical adventure.

7) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

I’m pretty sure this was the first ghibli movie I ever saw. When I was little I loved Totoro as well (and later once I wasn't scared of it, Spirited Away) but I would watch this when my parents were having an adult get together and I was bored. I love the scene with the golden field of Oms.

8) Muppet Treasure Island

This movie is a masterpiece, and my housemates can attest to how many times I mention this movie. Family friends really love it so I saw it first (and often) through them. Its just a lot of fun, gotta love Muppets

9) Barbie as Rapunzel

A dragon and cool dresses what’s not to love? I played the dvd game extensively (she painted dresses??? I wanted to paint dresses and make them real!). Loved basically all Barbie movies at the time as well, Swan Lake and Pegasus were other favorites

10) Digimon: The Movie

Y'all this movie slaps, the ska soundtrack, the ridiculous dub its got everything. I love digimon so fucking much oh my god. All My Best Friend Are Metalheads playing as Diaboromon takes over all electronics, poetic cinema. Also Gatomon’s mega evolution is so fucking cool.

Well, I'd talked to... mostly everyone. A few among us still hid their secrets in the shadows, but we had a day before MONO-9000 would air our dirty laundry to the world. Maybe the stragglers would come to terms with things before then. Whether they did or not, one thing was for sure-- nobody was going to die over any of this gossip. What kind of people did that robot think we were? Honestly.

It was about lunchtime, so I headed over to the kitchen and made myself a sandwich. On my way out, though, I heard chatter coming from the rec room... I decided to peek in and see what was going on.

Several people were crowded around the shelf of movies against the far wall. Honoka looked to be in charge, as usual.

"Is there really nothing any good here?"

"Not that I can see..."

"Someone went out of their way to pick the most childish, pointless movies possible for this room. I don't know why I even bother."

"Are you trying to tell me Kool Kat Saves The Kids isn't a masterpiece of modern cinema?"

Salvatore grinned his shark-tooth grin up at Siegfried, who frowned back at him as he tried to decide if that was a threat or a pick-up line.

"Alright! Let's break out the popcorn! Yeehaw!" Jurou whooped and hopped up from his chair.

"Oh, right! Jurou, I was gonna talk to you about the snack situation..."

He bobbed his head excitedly. "'Course I'll help! I can throw y'all together some--"

"Okay, this is just getting ridiculous! I'm not gonna sit back and watch this any longer!"

"AAAH! Where’d ya come from?!"

Alas, we would never find out Jurou's favorite movie snack, as our conversation was interrupted by the worst possible intruder.

"HEY! Fuck off!" Ishi bellowed as soon as she sighted MONO-9000’s glaring eye.

"What the hell are you doing here?!"

"B-b-but we haven't d-done anything wrong..."

"That's right! We haven't broken any of your rules!"

"Well not technically I guess... But you're totally missing the spirit of the game!"

"Listen, it was bad enough that you people had such boring-ass backstories to work with in the first place! Then half of you just straight up told everyone your darkest secrets with your lives on the line and now you're planning a MOVIE NIGHT?! That's just disrespectful!"

He waved his claws at us as if all this was somehow our fault.

"S-so what? You're the one that kidnapped us!"

"YEAH!! You fuckin' drag him, Tim!"

"Heaven forbid we communicate like reasonable human beings, right?"

“I can do some cartwheels for you if we’re not entertaining enough!”

"Man, if I'd know you people were gonna be such frakking goody-two-shoes... I guess I'm just gonna have to resort to boring old Plan B!"

A microphone popped out of a hatch in MONO-9000's chassis, and suddenly his voice boomed from every speaker in the room-- and presumably, every speaker on the station.

"The kitchen, pantry, and all other sources of food will be locked away until SOMEONE gets off their ass and kills somebody! Rationally discuss your way out of THAT one, meatbags!"

“W-w-what?!”

"What the FUCK?!"

“Holy shit?”

"Y-you can't just do that--"

Honoka's outburst was interrupted by the SLAM of a sturdy metal grate over the entrance to the kitchen. Apparently, he could just do that. Rather than respond to the sudden chaos, MONO-9000 simply whined to himelf as he bobbed away from the cafeteria.

"Weh... I thought my motive was cool..."

It wasn't long before the rest of the students stampeded into the room, having just heard the announcement themselves.

"What the hell is going on?!"

"God, I knew someone was gonna fuck this up..."

“Everybody stay calm, we can--”

"What are we gonna do what are we gonna do--"

"I told you this was a terrible idea! And now we all suffer for it!"

"I-I'm sorry I'm sorry--"

"EVERYBODY SHUT UUUUUUUP!!!"

Gugalanna's roar silenced (and deafened) the room as she stood on one of the tables and glared around at the crowd.

"YOU PENDEJOS FACE DEATH LIKE COWARDS!! IS THIS HOW YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED? GIVING UP AT THE SLIGHTEST DANGER AND SQUEALING LIKE PIGS?! I REFUSE TO MEET MY MAKER SURROUNDED BY BICKERING CHANCHITOS!!"

I wasn't sure what a pendejo or a chanchito was, but neither sounded terribly flattering. Salvatore took advantage of the silence to try and calm things down.

“MONO-9000 wasn’t going to just let us be, no matter what we did..."

"B-but if I hadn't said anything..." Honoka started to stammer out, but Salvatore cut her off.

"Don't blame yourself for what was a logical idea at the time, dear. In fact, I think we should go through with it! What's the movie?"

"Oh? We were trying to decide between the first Star Trek movie or Wrath of Khan, but..." 

"You can’t be serious!" Siegfried growled.

“I-I don’t really feel like watching anything now...”

"Ah... but it’s like Sal was saying earlier! It's safest for us to stick together."

“I think I’d rather just hole up in my room and fucking starve to death, if that’s chill.”

“No one’s stopping you, dear. But I think it’s too soon to give up on escaping--”

This time, Salvatore was interrupted by a much higher-pitched voice.

“Y-y-you really still think we can just-- up and leave this place?! We’re in space! MONO could kill us any moment now! He knows everything little thing about us! A-and now there’s no food and we’re fifty bajillion miles from home and we--”

“N-Nik! Nik are you-- listen, we’re gonna figure something out j-just take a deep breath...”

“Jesus, this is a mess.”

“If we can just get a distress signal out, maybe someone will find us and--”

“But there’s no way we could get to the communication systems from where we are--”

“There’s gotta be something we can do, right? But right now we need to--”

“Tomorrow we should regroup, and if no one’s had any ideas overnight we can search the station one more time. Until then...”

“...I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Star Trek movie!”

“Yeah! S-sorry there won’t be any snacks, though...”

“Yeah I’m not going. Have fun with your nerd movies or whatever. Don’t knock unless you find some food, bye.” With that pleasant parting remark, Tiffani staggered off back to the dorms, prompting the rest of the crowd to begin to disperse.

I’d gotten so lost trying to keep up with the pandemonium that I hadn’t really thought about how I felt about the situation. This punishment from MONO-9000 really did sound like a death sentence... but was there still a chance, like Yusra had said, of setting off a distress signal? Would someone come to help us?

There was one thing I did know for sure, though-- nothing like that would get resolved tonight. Tomorrow, maybe, we could find answers... We just needed to get through tonight. I did wonder if it would be safer to just stay locked up, but...

“I’m gonna go to the movie night. Better to mope around with some friends and a movie than mope around by myself, right?”

“You just wanna see Chris Pine one more time, don’t cha?”
