Yo! Waddup. Your blog seems totally cool. I need killer advice on a birthday gift for my boyfriend. He and I are OBSESSED with Cyndaquil, and I was thinking of giving him one for his birthday! However... I know Typhlosions and Quilavas can be a little rough and very tempered. Neither of us are very active people, so I'm scared I might be hurting a poor pokemon in the long run. Any advice? I really do want a tiny maus, it would make him very happy 💗💗💗
quilava and typhlosion are not pokemon that i would recommend keeping in a house. they are active, fairly aggressive pokemon, and the heat that a typhlosion lets out when annoyed is so intense that it can actually be dangerous to be in a small, enclosed space with them. they're pokemon that need a lot of enrichment, and if they don't get proper training, they can be dangerous to their trainer.
the good news is cyndaquil, on the other hand, is fairly docile! these little guys actually prefer to take life slow. they're small and generally timid by nature, and an overly active life can overwhelm them. the biggest concern to worry about is building your cyndaquil's confidence so that it doesn't curl up into a ball and set its back aflame when it gets frightened. a well-trained, well-socialized cyndaquil can actually make a great pet! most of the time, cyndaquil can remain unevolved without health complications, so you can have them hold an everstone. if you've been doing your research and have the proper setup in place, and he also knows that you're getting him a cyndaquil, you can raise a perfectly happy and healthy little guy together!

Hellow!
I just saw you have a Typhlosion in your team! Can you tell me a bit about how a Typhlosion can act? My official starter's Nino, a Cyndaquil, and even if I love him a lot, my family pushed me into having a "real" starter even if I already have another partner before him!
@lud-and-griz
Hello there !! Omg my first ask..
First off, I think its quite interesting how your parents pushed you for a "real" starter.. I'm going to ramble a bit, but the starter pokemon of each region are a bit overhyped in my opinion. This can cause unethical breeding of them or mistreatment by non professionals for a quick buck. Plus, any starter can be "real!" Starters are honestly just a social construct and it puts weird standards on pokemon and trainers to go down their path a specific way...
BUT!! My pokemon ethics input isnt what you asked for!! Of course, every pokemon has their own personality and tendencies in respect to the individual, so I can't say for sure how your cyndaquil will be like when evolved– but luckily for you the cyndaquil line is one of my favorites! So i can give you a general rundown on what to expect.
Cynaquil and Quilava are similar in the sense that both are generally pretty cautious pokemon in the wild, prefering to not pick fights unless necessary. They are lower on the food chain, and thus rely on their flame for defense usually, not offense. Typhlosion on the other hand however, burst with a hotter flame and become very territorial and independent in the wild.
With that in mind, Typhlosion after evolving tend to be more confident and a bit more mature than they were as a quilava, adjusting to a bigger body with bigger flames through this process. Their personality will pretty much stay the same, but slightly different as well. Think of it as growing up from a teen into an adult! (Keep in mind though that evolution stage does NOT equal age!) Typhlosion tend to be extremely protective of their trainer upon evolution, as well as become a tad bit more stoic than before, probably stemming from their territorial tendencies in the wild. Its also been shown within a vast majority of domesticated Typhlosion that they tend to have a short temper when on the battlefield--regardless of their personality. This is probably a genetic feature that helps fuel a Typhlosions back flame during fights, which can be quite devastating if your pokemon does not know how to control it. In addition, typhlosion has a feature none of its pre-evolutions have. Not simply flame-retardant fur, but a second layer of fur with a chemical compound that is capable of combusting under extreme heat. Just a little heads up if you ever see your Typhlosions entire body burst into fire!
Having cyndaquil evolve into a typhlosion is no easy feat and a great achievement for these pokemon! it may take them some time to adjust to the new body though, as Typhlosion typically prefer to stand on their hind legs–whereas quilava usually stay quadrapedal unless searching for danger, so be prepared for lots of bumping heads on sheves or tables. It might have been a while since your partner was a cyndaquil! Your typhlosion may also have an increased interest in sweets, even if they never liked sweet stuff before. This is because with a stronger flame, your typhlosion will need more fuel. Sucrose is known for being extremely flammable, and is often desired amongst fire types. Consuming sugars will help the gas sacs along its neck produce a strong flame! Your typhlosion might be more interested in consuming meat over bugs like its pre-evolutions. Be prepared to either adjust their diet or expect a potential gift at your doorstep sometimes! Typhlosion might also develop a habit of burrowing upon evolution. This is a nesting behavior that the other two evolutions don’t usually exhibit to the extent of a Typhlosions. Your Typhlosion may enjoy creating a burrow a few feet deep into the ground to rest in at night, the bottom of it lined with ash and sticks to keep it warm– kind of like its own mini campfire!
Whew that was a lot. Sorry to ramble! I just love sharing information about pokemon I love <3 I would talk about Jasper, my own Typhlosion on here, but this post is already getting pretty long. I’ll be keeping an eye on your cyndaquil! If they want to evolve, then I’d love to see it!

Shadow the Cyndaquil is keeping Sonic the Sandshrew Egg warm, not realizing it’s an alolan sandshrew that needs to be kept at room temperature
At least I know it’s going to be doing its best to take good care of its brother.

@heropartnerweek Day 2 - Flowers
And OH BOY I had the exact moment in mind from the second I saw that prompt. Same duo as yesterday, but now they also have their new companion (hero), Sorrel the Flabebe. Their first intentional mission as a team is to find Sorrel a flower because she's pretty much helpless without one. (And whatever sent her to this world and turned her into a Flabebe didn't see fit to materialize one for her.) But the only Fairy Flowers (AKA Flabebe flowers) in the area are protected by a territorial guardian...

The Catch. This is a piece I finished in March, which took me a month and a half, on and off, to finish. It sparked some minor controversy on reddit when it was removed from r/drawing for "not being a drawing", so I also have a traditional version made with colored pencil on gouache, as well as a time lapse of the process. Maybe I'll post it tomorrow? ;)

Clover's Pokédex: #004, #005 and #006: Cyndaquil, Quilava and Typhlosion
Bonus Entry: The Infernal Parade
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By Clover of the Survey Corps
Here's the link to the master post!
CYNDAQUIL
Category: The Fire Mouse Pokémon Average Height/Weight: 50cm, 7.9kg Conservation Status: Cyndaquil is surprisingly thriving in certain secluded areas in Johto. Type: Fire Evolution: Cyndaquil may evolve into Quilava through aging or training.
Cyndaquil is quite timid, but will not hesitate to light the flammable spots on its back as a last resort. These flames burn hottest when the Pokémon is angry, and have been used for generations in cooking in the absence of another heat source. When tired, Cyndaquil will flee or curl up into a ball rather than strike back, as its flames would otherwise not burn completely.
QUILAVA
Category: The Volcano Pokémon Average Height/Weight: 90cm, 19kg Conservation Status: Quilava is rare in the wild, but can occasionally be seen roaming grasslands. Type: Fire Evolution: Quilava evolves from Cyndaquil through aging or training, it also evolves into Typhlosion through the same methods.
Quilava is completely immune to any form of damaged caused by fire. Its fur and skin have ridiculously high burning temperatures, estimated to be around 900°C. I doesn't ususally attack with the flames on its head and rear, using them more for intimidation and attracting mates. Unless their mouth is somehow obstructed, it will always prefer to burn opponents by biting them and igniting its own teeth.
TYPHLOSION
Hisuian Form
Category: The Ghost Flame Pokémon Average Height/Weight: 1.60m, 69.8kg Conservation Status: Hisuian Typhlosion went extinct in the wild shortly before the foundation of Jubilife, as the last pack of Typhlosion living near the border with Johto migrated to escape predators. Type: Fire/Ghost Evolution: Typhlosion evolves from Quilava through aging or training.
In Hisui, Typhlosion seems to have a link to the fallen. It eats the souls of the lost, in order to purify and release them into the afterlife. There are rumors that the power of a Hisuian Typhlosion is the only thing capable of purifying a Spiritomb's 108 souls.
BONUS: THE INFERNAL PARADE
1- The Parade begins
Occasionally, in the Crimson Mirelands, an odd phenomenon occurs during full moon nights, which I have dubbed the Infernal Parade. A pack of Quilava migrates from the southern lands and gathers up in the ruins near Brava Arena, where they spontaneously evolve into Hisuian Typhlosion as soon as the moon rises.
2- The dance and the Spirit Feast
Upon evolving, they sing and dance, summoning strange fiery wisps that follow them around. This strange parade tends to last about an hour, before the Pokémon sit in a circle and absorb those wisps thrhough eating or the openings on their necks while meditating. This strange feast tends to last until exactly midnight.
3- Fireworks in the night sky
As the feast ends, the pack stands up in unison and unleashes a massive burst of purple fire into the center of the circle. The resulting fireball shoots up in the sky and silently explodes, scattering strange light particles through the air, which can be seen all the way from the Icelands. After that, the Pokémon leave, probably on their way back to Johto.
4- My conclusions and theories
The Infernal Parade is a truly beautiful event, and possibly the inspiration for modern fireworks, but there is more to it than just bright lights and eating flames. Here are some notes I took while watching a recent Infernal Parade:
The Typhlosion allow other Pokémon to participate, but few accept their invitations. I'm still unsure if they're as welcoming to all humans as well, or if they let me join them just because I was accompanied by my own Quilava, which I brought in an attempt to evolve.
The strange wisps are most probably the souls of other Pokémon, as they have a similar shape to the wisps released as a byproduct of Typhlosion purifying forsaken spirits, and the large explosion in the end must be the result of releasing multiple souls into the afterlife at once.
My theory is that the Infernal Parade is a way for Typhlosion to keep the balance between the realms of the living and the dead, making sure the lost souls scattered across Hisui find the way to a peaceful afterlife. The singing and dancing is a way to call for the spirits, and the meditation is there so each Typhlosion can concentrate enough energy to purify multiple souls at once.

Name: Amber
Species Cyndaquil
Sex: f
Notes
- Amber has some Hisuian genes. Her flames are wispier as opposed to the blaze of a standard Cyndaquil.
- Amber's nose is very stuffy. She sniffles and sneezes quite a bit. Medical professionals have examined her, they are not too concerned for her health in regards to this, and the cause is unknown.
- She has a poor sense of smell resulting from aforementioned conditioned.
- Due to poor smell, she will get very close to your face to smell you.
- Amber's sneezes ignite the flame on her rear. This may last a few seconds.
- She is somewhat lethargic compared to a normal Cyndaquil.
- She really likes to be held, and will stare at you until you pick her up.
- Her flames are not particularly hot, and will not leave burns. However, this is still fire, and due caution should be taken regarding Amber's flames.
Looking for someone
- With a fireproofed living space for Amber.
- That can handle her sneezing and nasal congestion issues.
- That is aware and prepared to have an open flame Pokemon.
- That will meet Amber's daily snuggle quota.

yo i accidentally spilled some chocolate chips while i was baking and my cyndaquil ate some should i take him to a pokemon center
Okay, I don't want to scare you, but this can actually be serious. Chocolate is poisonus to Cyndaquil, and can seriously harm or kill them if not handled quickly. Please take him to a pokemon center, and they can get it out of him (this happens more than you think)
