I think if you came out as anything to my OC Cydia Myssil, her response would be just sort of shrug, because it sure won't change how she treats you or thinks of you (like, okay, she might learn a new name/pronouns or dial back the flirting, depending, but besides that)

the problem is, this would probably come out of her mouth as a short, brisk "I don't care" the first try

which is still leaps and bounds past her friend Kyrinna, who barely understands the point of ordinary human companionship, much less romantic or sexual attraction

Kyrinna's response to coming out would probably be like "what's that even mean, nerd?" and then if you explain it, she would go "oh, okay" and just kinda leave now that her curiosity is sated

Meet Cydia Myssil, the ditzy girlboss of my upcoming novel Tenesoir Memoirs: Kyrinna! The planet of Tenesoir is a dangerous place. Not only is it forever shrouded in darkness, it’s also home to lots of strange and aggressive creatures. But somewhere out in that eternal night lurks an even more unpredictable threat, one who blurs the line of humanity...

Cydia’s earliest memories are of an orphanage, and of the man who adopted her, Don Gato. His intentions were less than noble, however; he could tell by her gray eyes that she was a wildspeaker, and he wanted that power to serve his criminal enterprise. Wildspeakers can observe monsters and learn to mimic their characteristics, such as fire breath or toxic secretions. Still, Cydia enjoyed learning how to rob people. She got to practice her unique skills all she wanted, and she was happy with her cut of the loot. That’s a better deal than the orphanage or the Church of Scintilla would have given her.

Eventually, though, Don Gato and Cydia fell out of touch. They had been communicating via dead drops for awhile, but his letters slowly dwindled away until they stopped altogether. Cydia was undeterred; she simply continued her life as a bandit, more than happy to stop paying Don Gato his cut.

Cydia Myssil is a free-spirited woman who always carries herself with a confident swagger. Sure, she may forget details here and there, like how to use healing ointment* or what wildspeaker powers she even has. Instead, she’s gotten really good at improvising. Cydia just does what comes naturally to her.

Most of the time, though, what comes naturally to Cydia is simply unchecked hedonism. To her, there is no special purpose or meaning of life. She’s got nothing better to do than whatever the hell she wants. Her three favorite things are fruit, alcohol, and fruity alcohol. She can control individual hairs on her head, and she uses this talent to double-jump and pick locks. Cydia has no regard for any law in her way, including the laws of physics.

One fateful night, Cydia meets Kyrinna, a stranger who happens to be a criminal herself. Kyrinna’s in the middle of forging a new identity, hoping to lay low among the ranks of some monster hunters for hire. At first, Cydia wants to kill Kyrinna to keep her hideout in the Marsh of Illusion a secret. When a reptilian monster emerges from the darkness, though, they quickly form a truce and square up together against this common foe.

can't stop thinking about Cydia Myssil in a zombie apocalypse...by which I mean my brain occasionally repeats the phrase "welcome...to Weedrassic Park" at me

see, she'd have terrible bronchitis or something right around the outbreak, stay home smoking all her weed, and some of the smoke particulates and THC get trapped in the mucus that's sticking to her insides

occasionally she can cough and break up the mucus and properly absorb some of the THC and get a little bit of a high, but her ultimate goal is to find her dealer (and to start her own pot farm, when she finds her dealer is now a zombie)

but she would enjoy the end! she's a hedonist and a nihilist, so the zombie outbreak doesn't bother her...in fact, now it means she can just take things from stores instead of having to afford them and buy them, so she might even prefer the world this way

I love Cydia Myssil because she’s such a good complement to the main character Kyrinna

while they may both be criminals, Kyrinna tries to lie and connive while Cydia is a straight shooter who hides nothing

Cydia’s crimes involve simply being--the Church has made it illegal to be a wildspeaker like her, but she was born that way! (there’s also the muggings, but that came much later!) Kyrinna’s crimes involve what she’s done--which, like, yeah, some of it is truly heinous, but in complete fairness, Kyrinna only got heinous after her grandma got the death penalty for making helpful potions!

they’re both very fond of Zeltencia--Kyrinna admires her sharp, analytical mind, and Cydia thinks she’s really, really hot

Kyrinna bitterly resents the Church for all they’ve done to try to enforce their dogma as law, whereas Cydia is just annoyed at them because they’re the law...but despite the motivations, the two of them would both kill a templar on sight given half a chance

also, Cydia gets laid at least twice during the events of book 1, which has nothing to do with this whole same but opposite thing, but good for her!
