The online Christmas sales extravaganza is an advertising articulation for the Monday subsequent to Thanksgiving. Falling between November 26th and December second every year, it happens four days after US Thanksgiving. Made by retailers to help online deals, Cyber Monday was first authored by the National Retail Federation in a public statement back in November 2005. From that point forward, the articulation has been utilized by online venders all throughout the planet.

my brain is mush
Starting Sunday night, I hit as many Cyber Monday sales as I could for shop stuff and family stuff. This is always scary because this is a time of year that’s REALLY bad/slow for tattoo shops. We’re not even bringing in enough to pay the rent and utilities during this time of year, and yet EVERYTHING IS ON SALE.
So I do this every year, and every year it’s scary. So far it’s worked out every year though. I stock up and usually make it back within the first two months of the new year.
Then yesterday afternoon I realized the cell phone company we all use was having a big sale, and my uncle REALLY needed a new phone. For some reason his has always gotten screen burn. Dunno why, but the cell phone place swore it was his fault, so they wouldn’t replace it. It’s been almost unusable the last few months.
So I got him a new phone on a BOGO sale, Carol (my aunt) got the free one, and they had another offer for a free iPhone. My dad is the only one in the family who uses iPhones, and his was about 5 years old. If you know Apple products (and plenty of other companies), you know anything over 2 years has awful performance because of what they do to tech.
BUT the cell phone place wanted us to get two new phone numbers to get those two deals. I don’t know how this makes sense to them -- they’re not getting new customers or anything -- but Carol and I decided we didn’t care if our numbers were changed.
It required 4 hours at the cell phone store and another two hours on the phone to get all the devices sorted out (we have 16 devices on our shared family plan because my family is rather large and we share everything in a totally not cult-ish way).
The iPhone being free saved us $800. And when we first set it up, it was my dad who had to change his number, and so he was like “okay if you’ve saved that much then I should get $800.” I laughed, but he’s weird with money stuff, so I said okay I’ll give you the money (as if we’re not all using the same bank accounts). So he was all happy and agreed to the whole thing.
Well after he thought about it he was like wait no I do business with my cell phone number and I’m scared I’m going to lose customers.
After two more hours on the phone with the cell company, I got him his old number, switched the new number to my phone, cancelled my old number, and as he was gloating about yay I have my old number, I said “so I get the $800 now.”
He huffed and said, “AWW MAN! I was hoping you’d forgotten about that!”
And no, money never changed hands, we share bank accounts and finances, and none of it meant anything, but we still fought over it and I got the “money” :D
