#WeWearRedOnThursdays #CWARedThursdays #MOStateWorkersUnion This week was our local’s first week of bargaining after 3 years of the state intentionally ignoring our contract! We had to fight tooth and nail, shed blood, sweat and tears just to protect our 12,000+ state workers. These are workers who ensure Missouri citizens get the care they need! Children’s Division, Dept. of Health & Senior Services, Dept. of Social Services, Dept. of Youth Services, Child Support, Foster Parents & Parkway School District employees! The Supreme court had to intervene and literally MAKE the state come back to the bargaining table! But we never backed down, we continue to educate our members and communities we serve, we continue to build relationships with ally organizations and legislators and more! So if you see a state worker, essential frontline heroes and sheroes, give them a simple “Thank you”. it goes a long way after all we have to fight against and deal with on a daily basis! I’m tired! I’m tired of fighting what seems to be a never ending battle. Everyday it’s something new, a new challenge or attack just to live comfortably. I can not overstand for the life of me why the government and elected officials choose money over human lives. I can’t overstand why an employer would refuse to protect and pay their workers a livable wage. Like a livable wage to SURVIVE! I can’t overstand why elected officials would deny a human’s right and access to quality healthcare after “we the people” voted for it! I’m nobody’s leader, i’m still on the front lines in the thick of this shit like everyone else. You try to talk to people to get them to care about their OWN well-being and their families. You try to show support to those who you know damn well could care less if you breathed or not. You try to educate your elders on the need for change and inclusion of young voices, leaders of our future to only receive an “oh ok, next topic.” You try to educate your peers for them to not give a damn about nothing you’re talking about unless they FEEL it directly relates to them.
