Leah Williamson is not your type. This, you decide the moment you spot her from across the ballroom, swiping a glass of champagne off a passing waiter’s tray.
You’re aware she’s famous, which is typically a red flag for you. Infamous in your world, where all the proper names are whispered behind manicured hands and anything resembling normalcy is held with the same disdain as a counterfeit handbag. Leah Williamson is an athlete, which in your circles is roughly akin to being an overpaid circus act.
But what really gives you pause is her haircut.
Short, blonde, not-quite-pixie. She looks like she’s wandered in here by mistake, a traveler who’s taken the wrong exit on the motorway and ended up in a place where the speed limit is fifty miles under what she’s used to. You half-expect her to pull out a map and ask someone the quickest way back to civilisation. Instead, she tips her head back and downs the champagne like it’s water, wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, and you’re immediately in love.
Of course, you won’t admit this, even under threat of being forced to wear last season’s Chanel. Love, in your world, is about as fashionable as pleather.
Your grandmother, God rest her weary soul, once said, You’ll know it’s love when you’re willing to risk wearing nude tights for them.” Nude tights, in her book, being one of the greatest crimes against humanity. You’re not sure you’re there yet, but the idea doesn’t fill you with as much dread as it would have this morning.
But you digress. You’re here at this godforsaken gala because your father insists on parading you like a prize cow before other old-money families, hoping you’ll marry someone with a suitable lineage. You’re twenty-six and your father has begun to suspect you might have, as he put it, “alternative preferences.” This is his way of reminding you that lineage is everything, and falling for someone without a trust fund is tantamount to treason.
So here you are, in a dress that costs more than most people’s cars, standing next to the dessert table and pretending the caviar blinis don’t taste like expensive regret. Across the room, Leah is now juggling her champagne glass and a miniature beef Wellington, and she seems to be losing.
You decide to rescue her. Or rather, you decide to rescue yourself from having to listen to Lord Farnsworth’s lecture on the importance of preserving the family crest for the fifteenth time this evening.
“Having fun?” you ask when you reach her, which is a stupid question because of course she isn’t. Nobody is having fun here.
She turns to you, and for a moment, you’re convinced she’s going to hand you her beef Wellington like you’re the help. Instead, she gives you a smile so dry you could use it to exfoliate.
“Are you?” she asks, and her voice is lower than you expected, with that clipped accent that tells you she’s from somewhere north of where people have indoor pools.
You shrug, because you don’t really know how to answer that without resorting to a level of honesty that would make your therapist proud but your mother faint.
“I’ve had root canals that were more enjoyable,” you say, and she laughs, a short bark of a sound that seems to surprise even her.
“Fair,” she says, and you feel like you’ve passed some sort of test.
“So what brings you to the seventh circle of hell?” you ask, watching as she abandons her beef Wellington on a passing waiter’s tray like she’s releasing a burden into the wild.
“I was invited,” she says, as though that explains everything, and maybe it does. Maybe she’s been told, like you have, that there are some invitations you just don’t turn down. Even if they come with the risk of being cornered by Lord Farnsworth and his endless tirade about how the current generation is ruining the art of fox hunting.
“Ah,” you say, because you understand that language. “That explains the face”
“What face?”
“The one you’ve been making all night,” you say, trying to demonstrate by contorting your own face into what you hope is an accurate imitation.
She grins again, and it occurs to you that Leah Williamson might be one of those rare people who looks more attractive when they’re amused. Most people, in your experience, become grotesque when they’re laughing, all exposed gums and teeth that are never as straight as they should be. But her face lights up in a way that suggests she doesn’t find the world half as disappointing as you do.
“And what face have you been making?” she asks, leaning in a little closer, and you catch a whiff of her perfume—something that’s probably advertised with shots of people running through fields of lavender, but on her, it smells like trouble.
You gesture vaguely. “It’s somewhere between ‘bored out of my skull’ and ‘I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this’”
“I’ll have to try that one,” she says, glancing over at Lord Farnsworth, who seems to have set his sights on you again, the poor man. “But I’ll need some pointers”
“First, you need to perfect the art of the disinterested nod,” you say, demonstrating. “Like you’re listening, but you’ve also just remembered you left the oven on”
She mimics you, and it’s terrible, but you applaud her effort anyway.
“Close enough,” you say. “Next, you have to practice the well-timed yawn. Not too obvious, but just enough to suggest you’ve heard all this before”
She pretends to yawn, and it’s so exaggerated that a few people around you turn to look.
“Subtlety is key,” you remind her.
“I’ll work on it,” she says, her grin widening as though she’s actually enjoying herself now, which is against all logic.
“And finally,” you say, feeling suddenly bold, “you have to perfect the getaway”
“The getaway?”
“Yeah,” you say, glancing at Lord Farnsworth, who is now being temporarily distracted by some poor woman in pearls. “Like this”
You grab her by the arm and start walking, weaving your way through the crowd with the precision of someone who has been doing this their whole life. She doesn’t resist, though she does give you a curious look as you lead her past your father, who is deep in conversation with someone equally dull.
You find yourself in the courtyard, where the air is cooler and the moon is doing its best impression of a romantic comedy backdrop. Leah stops and looks up at the sky, as though she’s surprised to find it there.
“Nice,” she says, and you can’t tell if she’s talking about the view or the escape route.
“Much better than listening to Lord Farnsworth,” you say, and she turns to you with that smile again, the one that’s starting to feel dangerously like an invitation.
“So,” she says, as if continuing a conversation you didn’t know you were having, “what’s a girl like you doing in a place like this?”
The question is so cliché it should make you cringe, but it doesn’t. Instead, it feels like the most natural thing in the world, and you find yourself saying, “I’m here because I lost a bet with Satan”
She chuckles, a low rumble in her chest that makes you feel like you’ve won something. “And what did you bet on?”
“That I could get through this evening without wanting to jump into traffic,” you say, and she laughs again, this time a little louder.
“I think you lost that bet the moment you saw the guest list,” she says, and you nod in agreement.
“So what about you?” you ask, genuinely curious now. “Why are you here?”
“Because I was invited,” she repeats, but this time, there’s something else in her tone, something that makes you think she’s not just talking about the gala.
You want to ask her what she means, but you don’t. Instead, you reach out and take her hand, surprising both of you.
“Let’s make another bet,” you say, feeling a strange kind of thrill, like you’re standing on the edge of something.
“What kind of bet?” she asks, her eyes narrowing slightly, but there’s a glint in them that makes you think she’s game.
“That we can get through the rest of this evening without wanting to jump into traffic,” you say, squeezing her hand just a little.
She considers this for a moment, then grins. “You’re on”
And just like that, the evening shifts. The gala, the people, the expectations—they all fade into the background as you and Leah step into something that feels suspiciously like possibility.
You don’t know where this is going, but for the first time in a long time, you’re excited to find out. And maybe, just maybe, you’re willing to risk wearing nude tights for her. But only if you lose the bet.

Hair
What's so unique and good with this aesthetic is that any hair or hairstyle works. Got bangs - great! Don't have bangs - also great! It's so versatile, anything works.
Length
Although versatile, short hair is the most popular hair length. Most characters are seen having these haircuts - ranging from short bobs to slightly longer, past the chin but not quite toughing the shoulder yet, hair. Short hair gives you a youthful, maybe a little tomboyish and a kind of school girl look. It's also most practical.
Shoulder length and medium hair is basic, cute and feminine. Paired up with bangs, layers or hair accessories makes it simple but cute. It's pretty self explanatory, so let's move on.
The least seen hair length is long hair. It might not be represented as much but it works just as well as the others. Long hair is ultra feminine, working well with the other aspects of this aesthetic. It's least practical, especially when let lose, but what is practical about this aesthetic anyway. Your just here to look cute and survive while doing it.
This being just a general and basic rundown let's talk about other, more unique hairstyles or one's I didn't mention. Going back to short hair - pixie cuts or buzz cuts, though not seen in media, work just as well. They give a nice contrast to the clothes and feminine touches and paired up with cute hair accessories or headbands, distribute the femininity throughout. Hairstyles like braids or locs are super cute and can be accessorized too.
To sum this up - any hairstyle or haircut works as long as you feel good and confident enough to survive.
Color
As I mentioned above, this aesthetic works with almost anything. With hair colors it's a little more restricted. Natural hair colors work best, keeping the neutral color palate.
All three - black, brown and blonde hair can be seen in media, all represented with different shades of each color. So if your one of those basic people like me who's to scared to damage and customize their hair - your in luck!
To the people with red hair or colored/dyed I have bad news. Well ok it's not that bad, really. This aesthetic is very moody and sad, dark, so that pop of color you put in your hair kind of needs to go. Jk. Brighter hair is super cute and will add a nice twist to the otherwise boring and plain colors.
Hairstyles
Styling is pretty simple. Most of the time the hair isn't put up, maybe even a little messy to really indicate that distress. But if you have to, then some ideas would be either low ponytails, braids or pigtails. Most preferably all hairstyles should be low on the head, as it gives more calm, patient, introverted vibes instead of the sporty, extroverted and loud energy that hairstyles like high ponytails give off. You should keep in mind the hairstyles should not draw unnecessary attention as you are trying to be discrete and quiet while making your way to safety. If you want more hairstyle ideas, look up 00s hairstyles, as this aesthetic is inspired by that time.
Tumblr media
Being finally finished with the hair, next overview will be about clothes and might be even longer than this one... If there is anything I forgot to add or you spot any grammar/spelling mistakes be sure to let me know.

Cultural Differences Part 1
Tumblr media
You and Armin get assigned to complete a year long project for your Cultural Arts class together. You never thought it would turn into this . . .
WARNINGS: fem!reader, Mexican!reader, fluff, angst, slow burn, eventual smut, college!au, modern!au, Armin is German in this, and they were roommates, trauma revelations sprinkled throughout, slight hints of racism
DISCLAIMER: the reader in this fic is written to be Mexican, however she does not have predominantly Hispanic features described (I think). Y/n can be perceived as anyone since I don’t specify, however just know that she is written to be Latina. This story is also very personal to me, as Y/n is based very heavily off of myself

“Theoretically, if you talked to your roommates about it, could I move in with you?” you asked.
Mikasa’s eyebrows furrowed, and she quickly finished her bite of sandwich before saying, “Yeah, I think they’d be fine with it, and it’d be fun for me. Why, though? Is everything okay with your house mates?”
You continued staring down at the Tupperware container holding your food, moving around a piece of chicken with your fork. “Yeah, we’re fine. It’s just a lot. Hitch brings by a new guy every night and tries to be as loud as possible to make Marlowe jealous. They’re also the biggest group of slobs I’ve ever seen, it’s disgusting.”
Mikasa hummed, bringing her water bottle to her lips and taking a sip. “Right, I forgot they were your roommates.” She set the bottle down, tapping the pads of her fingers against it.
“It also happened again.”
The tapping stopped. “Again?”
You nodded. “Floch misplaced almost five hundred dollars.”
Mikasa rolled her eyes. “Fucking Floch,” she muttered. “And you were . . .?”
She trailed off when you nodded again. “The first one.”
She let out an exasperated sigh. “Where did it end up being?”
“In his goddamn phone case. Why would you put five hundred dollar bills in your fucking phone case?”
“Because it’s Floch. He’s an idiot.” Mikasa shrugged her leather jacket off, folding it up and placing it in her lap. “I’ll definitely ask Eren and Armin if you can move in. I’m sure they’ll agree, so start getting some stuff together. I’ll talk to them about it later and get back to you, yeah?”
“Yeah, that’s fine. It’s fine if they say no, by the way, I’ll figure something out.” You put the fork you were holding down, closing the Tupperware container and pushing it to the side.
Mikasa was silent for a moment before grabbing your hand and giving it a squeeze. “I’m sorry this has to happen to you.”
“Not your fault,” you muttered. Another few seconds of silence passed between the two of you before you said, “I kind of want to cut my hair.”
“Really? I’ve been wanting to do that too, but I don’t know. I’ve been thinking maybe a pixie cut.” Mikasa played with the ends of her hair, running her fingers over them as if to measure how much to cut off.
“That’d look cute. You’d be super pretty with that. What about me, how short should I go? Maybe here?” You held your hand up to just above your shoulder. “Or shorter?”
“Well, you’ve always looked good with shoulder length hair. Maybe a bit shorter this time, though.”
You nodded in thought. “Wanna go get haircuts right now?”
“Absolutely.”
The two of you exchanged a smile, and for just a moment while you cleaned up the table you were sitting at, everything seemed to be just fine.
You never talked much to the boy that sat next to you in your Cultural Arts class—a class you had chosen to take purely on a whim. In fact, you don’t think you’ve ever exchanged a word with the blond that sat beside you. But when you entered class the next day and took your seat beside him, he couldn’t help but double take.
“You cut your hair,” he observed.
It caught you off guard. You didn’t really talk to anyone in the class, seeing as no one you knew took it and you were too nervous to start a conversation with someone, so it shocked you that someone actually spoke to you.
“Yeah,” you said quietly. You didn’t mean to, but it was force of habit—always talk quietly when meeting new people. You looked up at him, seeing that his eyes were traveling over your profile to admire your haircut.
“You look nice,” he said simply.
Your eyes widened slightly at the sudden compliment.
You thanked him, giving him a small smile before you redirected your attention to the mechanical pencil in your hands, spinning around the eraser.
“I’m Armin.” He continued talking to you. You weren’t complaining, but it suddenly felt like every beat your heart made was amplified. It was distracting.
You looked back up at him and smiled again. “Y/n. It’s nice to meet you.”
You noticed how pretty he was—how his ocean blue eyes caught the light and the way his golden hair fell over his forehead. His glasses were cute, squareish with a dark tortoiseshell design, sitting halfway down his nose.
His lips curled into a smile, and he nodded. “Likewise.”
He looked familiar. His name sounded familiar, too, but you couldn’t quite place where you might know him from.
Since your professor had yet to enter the class, you decided to attempt a conversation with him. “So how do you like this class so far?”
You’re not sure if you imagined it, but you could have sworn his eyes brightened just a little bit hearing you continue to speak with him.
“I like it so far. I looked over the syllabus the other day and it seems like the class will be going on a couple trips later in the year,” he said. He was facing you in his chair, his hands clasped in front of him.
“Really?” He nodded. “Wow, I guess that’s what happens when you attend a really fancy private school,” you reasoned. “Fancy school trips for elective classes.”
“Yeah, I think the trips are more for the people wanting a career to do with culture, though,” Armin said. “What’s your major? You look familiar, maybe I have you in another class.”
“I doubt it,” you said, “but visual arts. Film, cinematography, video, set design, things like that.”
“What are you wanting to get into?”
“I want to be a set designer or producer. I think costume designing would be nice, too, but I know I want to help with movies. It’s always seemed fun,” you said. “It’s not really what Paradis is known for, but the program here is really good. I’ll get some experience in the field before graduating.”
“No, it’s cool. I have a friend wanting to get into the same thing, maybe you know him? His name is Jean Kirstein.”
You thought for a moment, attempting to put a face to the name. “Maybe? I’m not sure, I don’t really talk to anyone to be honest.”
Armin hummed. “That’s fine. I’ll ask him later and see if he knows you, if that’s alright with you.”
You nodded. “Yeah, perfectly fine.”
A smile painted itself onto Armin’s features, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He was about to say something else, but was interrupted by Professor Smith walking through the door.
He apologized for being late, and continued to begin the class by announcing the year long project mentioned on the syllabus.
“You will be working with your table partners,” he said. “The goal is to get to know them and understand their customs. You are meant to learn about their traditions and heritage, as well as their own personal culture and upbringing. I don’t want something that obviously came from Wikipedia, every family does things a little differently. I expect to see that in these projects. At the end of the year you will each be turning in both a written essay and a Google Slides presentation about your partner and what you learned. There will be a rubric on my desk for you to pick up at the end of class.”
Professor Smith gave his students a couple more minutes to silently converse among themselves, most likely so everyone could begin basic introductions with their partners.
You turned to Armin, finding that he already had his head turned and was looking at you.
“It looks like we’re partners,” he said. You nodded as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He unlocked it, creating a new message box for you to input your number and send something. He handed it to you. “So we can stay in touch better,” he explained.
You took his phone, the dark blue case a nice, matte feeling under your fingertips. You quickly typed in your number and sent a quick hi , feeling your phone buzz in your pocket soon afterwards. You handed his phone back, pulling yours out and changing the contact of his number.
The two of you traded small conversation while you waited for your professor to continue the class. When he started talking again, you tried your best to pay attention to what he was saying (something about Egyptian pyramids, you think), but your mind and gaze kept wandering to the boy sitting next to you.
Little did you know that Armin was in the exact same boat.
When Mikasa met up with you for lunch, she started off with saying that her roommates were fine, if not ecstatic, with you moving in. Mikasa hadn’t explained your situation, only saying that you had annoying roommates, and they both accepted almost immediately.
You were practically elated to hear the news. Despite never meeting either of her roommates, Mikasa spoke the world of them to you. You could only assume she did the same with you, speaking to no end about some little thing you did with her roommates.
After lunch she helped you gather your things from your dorm. The two of you were able to fit almost everything into two large suitcases, a smaller one and a backpack. Mikasa helped you carry them to the elevator in the building, and pulled her phone out to text her roommates as you descended.
She talked to you about your room on the way there, mentioning that it was used as a storage room but the three of them had gotten it cleaned out quickly when they came to the agreement that someone else would be staying with them. She also talked about how there was an extra room, something they had discovered behind a wall after they had purchased the house, that they used as a studio for their interests.
“You can set your instruments up in there, if you want,” she said. “They should be fine since Eren doesn’t really go in there.”
Eren, as Mikasa has told you on numerous occasions, was the one constantly up to something. He was stubborn, and only stuck to his ideas with no hope of changing his mind after he made a decision.
You couldn’t remember her second roommate’s name for the life of you, but you knew that he was nice, more reasonable than Eren.
Mikasa soon pulled up in front of a small two story house in a decent looking neighborhood. She parked, grabbing her phone to call someone.
“Get out here and help us,” she said when the receiver had answered. “Y/n’s here, by the way, so don’t be a jackass to her.”
She hung up immediately after saying that. Right as you opened the car door and stepped out, you saw someone with brown hair jogging out the front door to meet you and Mikasa at the car.
He stopped next to Mikasa at the trunk, and helped her pull out your suitcases and place them on the driveway.
You joined them after looking over the house again. It was nice, a blueish-gray exterior with white trim. Nothing seemed like it was about to rot away or fall down, so that was a plus in your book.
“He’s in the shower, he’ll be out in a minute.” That was the only part of their conversation you heard before the brown-haired boy turned to you and gave you a small smile.
Mikasa ended up introducing the two of you, seeing as you didn’t want to initiate conversation and the guy in front of you gave her a side glance. “You should be able to do this yourself. Anyways, Y/n, this is Eren. Eren, meet Y/n.”
Eren gave a curt nod. “Nice to meet you. Uhm, do you have any allergies? I have dinner going in the kitchen and want to make sure you’re not allergic to anything.”
You shook your head. “No, not allergic to anything.”
You spoke quietly again, and you internally scolded yourself for doing so. But then you took his appearance into account and immediately stopped yourself. He was tall, easily one of the tallest people you’ve ever met. He also seemed to carry a lot of muscle under his white long sleeve, and his brown hair was pulled back into a bun to reveal the small tattoo of something you couldn’t figure out behind his ear. His green eyes were piercing, and you couldn’t help but feel he was staring into your soul, learning all your secrets, when he looked at you.
His presence intimidated you, and you silently thanked Mikasa when she told him to start taking things into the house. Eren jokingly rolled his eyes, grabbing one of your suitcases by the handle and wheeling it inside.
“Sorry, he can be a bit”—Mikasa made a motion with her hands, hoping the action conveyed what she was trying to say—“but I promise he’s better once you get to know him. For the most part, at least. Don’t worry, though, he knows you’re one of my best friends and wouldn’t dare pull what he pulls with other girls on you.”
She grabbed the larger suitcase and handed you the smaller one, closing the trunk and locking her car. She gently beckoned you to follow her into the house with a smile, and you followed her.
It was surprisingly put together inside. At least, for a house full of college students. There wasn’t any dirty clothing or dishes lying around, and everything seemed to have a place. It was a bit crowded, but that was likely because of the boxes sitting in the corners.
Mikasa led you to a staircase, where the two of you struggled momentarily to wheel your luggage up before realizing you could pick it up and carry it.
You walked down the hallway to the last door on the right. Mikasa opened it to reveal the sparse room, only being occupied by a bed without sheets.
“This is your room.” Mikasa stood in the center of the room and held her hands out as if what she was showing you was a grand presentation. “It’s a little dirty, but it’s mostly just dust. Eren should almost be done with dinner, so we’ll start putting everything away afterwards, yeah?”
You nodded, reaching behind you to bring in your other two suitcases. You set them in the corner, along with the backpack you had brought with you.
You could hear the shower going; it sounded like it was on the other side of the wall. Mikasa noticed you looking at one of the doors to your right and said, “Oh, that’s just Armin. He’s showering right now. There’s three bathrooms, one downstairs and two up here. The bathrooms up here are shared with the rooms on either side of them, so you’ll be sharing one with him, if that’s alright.”
The name she had said went unheard as you nodded, opening the other door to reveal a small closet with a dresser already inside.
You followed Mikasa out of your room when you closed the closet door for a quick tour of the house.
All the bedrooms were upstairs, you didn’t pay much attention to who they belonged to, but you could tell which one was Mikasa’s—the one across from you, decorated with a Twilight poster and some bookshelves, different knickknacks and book collections on each one. One of her walls was painted black, and had different pieces of paper taped and tacked to it. You spotted a picture of the two of you on her desk, and smiled at the memory associated with it.
She didn’t show you the inside of the other two rooms, saying that her roommates could decide if they wanted you to see them or not.
Downstairs, the dining room and living room were combined, two couches sitting crammed together to make space for the unusually large dining table—rectangular with six seats at it. Half of the table was occupied with unopened mail and other papers, possibly forgotten projects from earlier years, and the other was was completely clean.
It was a rather open house plan. You were able to see into the kitchen from the living room, and saw Eren moving a pot around and grabbing bowls from a cupboard. You followed Mikasa again, and opened the door in the kitchen she stopped in front of to see what was inside.
“This is the pantry. The washer and dryer are also in there, along with, like, other cleaning supplies and things we don’t really use. And then the other bathroom is in the living room,” Mikasa explained.
“Mika,” Eren started, sprinkling some kind of seasoning over the food he had made, “dinner’s almost ready. Go tell Armin.”
Mikasa gave him a thumbs up, telling you something you didn’t quite hear before going upstairs as Eren pulled out a spoon and started scooping dinner into bowls.
You had heard the name, and were trying to figure out where else you knew it from. Obviously Mikasa had mentioned this Armin multiple times in the past, but you swear you knew it from somewhere else . . .
Eren put the big plastic spoon he had been using back into the pot. He lifted a bowl and offered it to you. “It’s fideo. Mikasa said you liked it, so I figured I’d find a recipe and make it for dinner.”
He had pronounced it wrong, but knowing that he had tried to do something to welcome you left a feeling in you that you hadn’t felt in a long time.
You took the bowl, bowing your head slightly to thank him and set it at the table.
You turned back towards him. “Do you need help with anything?”
Eren shrugged. “Not really. I mean, if you want to grab drinks you can, but we usually just grab our own.”
You needed something to do—you would feel awkward if you were the only one at the table—so you walked into the pantry and looked around for a moment. You saw a few packs of soda on the floor—all packages of store brand root beer—and bent down to pick up four cans from the only open box.
You walked out and set them down at the table, seeing that Eren had already set the rest of the bowls in their places and was sitting down.
You sat as well, soon being joined by Mikasa. “He’ll be down in a minute. He’s doing his hair.”
You saw Eren jokingly roll his eyes and mumble something that made Mikasa laugh from next to you. You let out a quiet, nervous breath of air in a sad attempt to laugh at whatever joke they shared.
Soon after the three of you started eating, you were joined by a fourth person that sat across from you. You glanced up when you noticed him, noting the familiar blond hair and glasses.
“Armin.” You’re not sure why you’re surprised, you really should have put together that the blond boy in your Cultural Arts class was the same blond boy Mikasa spoke about. Despite that, you didn’t put together until that moment that they were the same person.
Armin glanced up from his phone, which he immediately turned off and put the the side face down. He took the sight of you in with intent, looking over your gestures as if he was trying to commit them to memory.
His blond hair was still damp, sitting on his head flatter than it had been earlier. His skin seemed to be glowing, and the white T-shirt he was wearing hugged his torso and arms in all the right places.
“Y/n.” He said your name in the same tone you had said his, with genuine surprise and wonder. It might have been your imagination, but you think you saw him sit just a little straighter. “So you’re our new roommate?”
You nodded. “Yeah. I guess this’ll make our project super easy.” You smiled at him, and he immediately returned it with his own, one so bright it would have lit up the world if everything went out.
“Oh, so you two already know each other?” Mikasa asked. She wasn’t oblivious to the way Armin straightened his posture after seeing you, the way your eyes unknowingly lit up after realizing he was your third roommate.
She suddenly felt an abrupt protectiveness over you. Mikasa has only ever seen you seem so interested in someone from the very start once, and that didn’t end well. Despite knowing that Armin was a nice guy, that if you two theoretically entered a relationship he wouldn’t hurt you on purpose (even if he ever did hurt you Mikasa knows he would apologize as soon as possible with the most personal apology you would ever see), the thought still made her uneasy.
She trusted your judgment, of course, and in that hypothetical situation where you and him were dating she trusted that Armin would be the best boyfriend you could have, but she knew your past. She knew your habits and little quirks. She knew how you acted and was worried that if anything grew between the two of you, you would just run from your feelings.
She just didn’t want you to get hurt again.
“Yeah,” you said. “We have the same Cultural Arts class. We’re partners for our project.”
“What’s the project?” Eren asked. He was usually unknowing to emotions the people around him felt, but any idiot could see the spark between you and his best friend. He didn’t know you as well as he knew Armin, but you shared the tell-tale signs of interest through the way you were sitting.
He, for one, was rather excited for what might conspire between you and Armin. Since his best friend’s previous girlfriend broke off the relationship, Armin hadn’t searched for anything romantic, saying things like, No one likes me anyways, why would I look for someone that’ll half-ass our relationship?
“Just to learn about each other, really,” Armin said. “We’re supposed to learn about our partners customs and traditions.”
Mikasa hummed, half-way through chewing a spoonful of soup. When she swallowed, she motioned to you and said, “You should tell him about your Quinceañera.”
“What’s a Quinceañera?” Eren asked.
“It’s kind of like a sweet sixteen,” you said. “Kind of. More like a wedding, really, at least that’s what a lot of people describe it as. It’s just a birthday party Hispanic girls celebrate when they turn fifteen to commemorate becoming a woman.”
“There’s so much symbolism behind everything,” Mikasa said, knowing you wouldn’t elaborate further unless asked the right questions. She knew for a fact that Armin and Eren didn’t know the right questions, so she ended it by telling Armin, “Her sister’s having one later this year, so be sure to ask her about it after she comes back from the trip.”
Armin nodded toward Mikasa, silently thanking her for the continuation of conversation. “Definitely. You have a sister?” he asked you.
You nodded. “Rosalina,” you said. “She gathered her court of honor earlier this year and asked her boyfriend to be her main chambelan.”
Armin had not a clue what any of the words you were saying meant, but he knew that he would love learning about the traditions you celebrated.
He was suddenly more excited for this project than he had been.

Note
What’s your favorite haircut/style you’ve ever had? And have you ever dyed your hair? :0
Right now, my hair is long, but I've cut it short to almost a pixie cut in the past and it always looks so cute! I almost cut it short again during the summer, but then we decided to go to FanX in September and I was cosplaying Merida, so I kept it long. I might cut it again in a few months, but I'm not sure yet. I do like having it long too.
As for dying it, I've been dying it for 12 years now, ever since I graduated high school 😊 my natural hair color is dirty blonde and I've been dying it red. I love the color and I feel it suits me and my personality better!

Poetry & Blood Chapter 1: The Initiate
By Trixie Adara
Tumblr media
Laura held the advertisement in her shaking hand.
“You have to be kidding me.”
This was the address the secretary had sent her to. It was a massive estate, at least four stories tall and almost as large as a city block. In the middle of downtown Memphis? That didn’t make any freaking sense.
Laura checked the ad again:
WANTED: English major. Experience with editing and copy editing. Female. Experience with romantic fiction, reading or writing. Must be able to read poetry with emphasis, clarity, skill, and accuracy.
She found it on her old college campus on a bulletin board. It was dark purple with a picture of “The Purpose and the Passion,” by Camille K, a successful romance writer. She wrote mostly fluff, stories of overly buff and wealthy men pursuing strong and independent women. It made money, but it wasn’t the Next Great American Novel.
Laura had assumed she’d be working for Camille, though the ad wasn’t clear. What she hadn’t assumed was that Camille K lived in a giant estate in the middle of downtown. It looked like a library or a cathedral. It was oddly Victorian, standing out against the modern and concrete aesthetic around. Not many buildings from that time period were downtown, and even fewer had survived a giant fire from the early 1900’s.
Laura shivered. The building wasn’t just impressive. Impressive was a word you used for skyscrapers and giant arches. This was intimidating. Camille K, her new boss, had somehow managed not only to live here, but to afford living here all while writing dressed-up smut. It was entirely possible Laura was way, way over her head.
Laura approached the door and looked for a doorbell. It didn’t have one. All it had was a giant knocker attached to a lion’s face like a nose ring through the lion’s nostril. It was heavy, dark black iron. The circle itself must have weighed ten pounds. Laura pounded away with it and waited.
Eventually, a tiny blonde woman, she looked to be no more than thirty, with a cute pixie haircut appeared. She wasn’t in a maid’s uniform, though Laura must admit she expected a maid from the 1800’s to appear. The woman was in a simple sleeveless white blouse and a black pencil skirt. There was nothing eye-catching or extraordinary about her, really.
“Can I help you?” she asked.
“Uh, hi. My name is Laura Delazier. I got hired for the copy editing job?”
Laura had assumed it was a copy editing job. She’d be plundering Camille K’s predictable plots and painful dialogue for typos. But she needed a job. The world wasn’t desperate for English majors unless you wanted to be a teacher. Laura wanted to be a writer, but first she needed to find a story worth telling. She was still looking for it.
Unfortunately, her landlord wouldn’t take that reason for rent. Neither would her grocery store, her student loans, her phone bill, her insurance, nor gas for her car. No one wanted aspirational stories. They wanted money. Camille K had enough money for a mansion, and apparently, enough money to help out lowly English majors only a few months out of school.
“Copy editing job?” asked the woman.
Laura held up the ad. The woman scrunched her nose to try and read the ad, then took it from Laura. As she read, her face relaxed.
“Ooooo, the assistant job.”
“Assistant?”
“Oh, yes. Come right this way Miss Delazier.” The woman disappeared into the estate, and Laura followed. She turned around to make sure the door was closed behind them, then scampered after the short blonde.
As soon as she stepped inside, she wanted to pause and gawk. There was a grand staircase that wound all the way up to the fourth floor, and maybe even the roof. There were three different hallways to choose from. The building was rich with dark wood and pale marble that made Laura feel dirty, clumsy, and poor all at once.
But Laura didn’t have time to investigate closely. The blonde was fast, and Laura had no idea where she was taking her. She lost track of all the turns they take. They seemed to go up a side flight of stairs, and then down another flight of stairs. One floor had a garden in the middle of it, and another floor had a grand dining room.
“Am I getting the tour?” asked Laura.
“Sort of,” said the blonde without turning around. “Miss K is in a meeting. It’s a moving meeting, and I’m to make sure they don’t see you or me. Hence, the roundabout course.
“I’m not going to Miss K?”
“You’ll meet with her shortly. For now, I’m taking you to her primary assistant.”
“She has multiple assistants?”
The blonde stopped abruptly, and Laura almost slammed into her. She turned and gave Laura a look of disappointment and amusement. “Miss K employs a research assistant, a personal assistant, a primary assistant, and now you, an editing assistant. Not to mention: me, two other housekeepers, a personal cook, several lawyers, an accountant, and a personal trainer. Her primary assistant oversees all of us.”
“And she’s the one who  -”
“Hired you. Will pay you. And will direct you. You’ll spend most of your time with her.”
The blonde turned back around and led on. They went up to the fourth floor - Laura’s calves were killing her - and came to a glass door. Behind that glass door was a beautiful office that had giant windows overlooking the waterfront of the Mississippi River.
Sitting at the desk, was an elegant Asian woman. She wore a flowing pantsuit that looked like it came off the runway in Paris. The legs flared a little below the knee, but were tight at the thigh. The neckline of the jacket was plunging, but the woman wore a simple white blouse underneath. She had long and straight black hair, going to her lower back. She looked to be only a little older than the blonde, in her mid or late thirties. She stood as she saw them round the corner and opened the door for them.
“Hello,” she said. “You must be Miss Delazier.”
“Please, call me Laura.” Laura extended her hand and shook Miss Lancaster’s.
“I’m Lucy Lancaster, I’m Miss K’s primary assistant. We spoke on the phone.”
“Yes,” said Laura.
Everyone stood awkwardly outside Miss Lancaster’s office. Miss Lancaster and the blonde had some type of conversation with their eyes, and Laura tried to avoid eye-contact entirely.
“Is Miss K still with the -”
“Yes,” said the blonde quickly.
“Good.” Miss Lancaster turned to Laura. “Come on in, Laura. Let me tell you more about the position.” Miss Lancaster turned to enter her office, but Laura turned to the blonde.
“What was your name? I’m sorry, but I never got it.”
The blonde blushed and smiled. “I’m Angelica.”
“Thank you for showing me around, Angelica. I appreciate it.” Laura held out her hand to shake the blonde’s, but Angelic curtsied instead, and walked away. Laura turned and entered Miss Lancaster’s office.
Miss Lancaster was in the wrong job. The woman belonged on Wall Street or in Washington. Her talent, intelligence, and composure were wasted working as the staff manager for a romance writer. Laura respected her immediately, but was too intimidated to like her. She wanted to like her. Laura wanted to like everyone. But Miss Lancaster made her feel stupid and foolish for being an English major. She disapproved of Laura’s tiny writing credentials. She kept saying “we can make that work,” and everytime she said it, Laura died a little inside.
Laura’s job was to be feedback and copy editing for Miss K. Apparently, Miss K often gets stuck on story ideas. She needs help finding inspiration. She needs someone to bounce ideas off of. And yes, Laura will need to go over Miss K’s writing at the end of each day, line by line, to check for grammar, spelling, and inconsistencies in the text.
“What about the poetry reading part?” asked Laura.
“Miss K likes to have poetry read to her. It moves and inspires her.”
“Sure,” shrugged Laura. Whatever Miss K wanted, Miss K was going to get.
Miss Lancaster sighed and pushed back her chair. “Now comes the unpleasantness of this meeting.” She opened a drawer a pulled out a one-inch-thick stack of paper. She dropped it onto the table in front of Laura.
“Unpleasantness?” squeaked Laura.
“Unfortunately.”
“What’s this?” asked Laura.
“This is a Non-Disclosure Agreement, or NDA. It is a legal document binding you to privacy, secrecy, and confidentiality while under the employ of Miss Camille Kontalban.”
“Kontalban?”
“Doesn’t roll off the tongue, does it?” said Miss Lancaster with a smile.
“Not quite.”
“Hence, Miss K.”
“Right.”
Miss Lancaster flipped through the pages and explained them as best she could to Laura. Laura couldn’t tell people things that were happening in Miss K’s books. She couldn’t talk about Miss K’s process or methods. She couldn’t reveal Miss K’s creative or inspirational process. She couldn’t reveal Miss K’s lifestyle or homelife. In short, she couldn’t talk about Miss K in anyway to anybody outside Miss K’s employ unless she wanted an avalanche of legal troubles.
“Should I have a lawyer read over this?” asked Laura when Miss Lancaster was finished.
“You can if you want to. It’s pretty straightforward, though.”
“It’s a lot. And it’s … scary.”
“We’re not trying to scare you. We’re trying to protect Miss K.”
Laura sighed. “Where do I sign?”
“That-a-girl.” Miss Lancaster flipped to several spots, and Laura signed at each of them.
“One last thing,” said Miss Lancaster when they were finished. “And unfortunately, this was not in the add.” Laura went cold. “We insist that while you are in Miss K’s employ, since you will be working so intimately with her, that you should live in the manor.”
Laura’s mouth dropped. “In the manor?”
“Yes,” said Miss Lancaster. She chewed on her pen, nervously. “Is that alright?”
“You mean, I have to move out of my crappy apartment to live in a mansion with a greenhouse, a ballroom, a grand staircase, and and and …”
“A swimming pool?” suggest Miss Lancaster.
“This place has a pool?!” squealed Laura.
Miss Lancaster grinned and nodded. “And a gym. And a hot tub. And a spa.”
“Holy shit,” whispered Laura. Then she gasped and covered her mouth. She blushed with embarrassment.
Miss Lancaster laughed. “Holy shit, indeed.” She seemed to relax and sat back down at her desk across from Laura. “I take it you’re not upset by this?”
“Am I allowed to leave when I want?” asked Laura.
“Of course. It’s just easier for everyone if you’re nearby in case Miss K writes in a fevered passion at five in the morning.”
Laura shrugged. “Fair enough.” It certainly beat paying rent. She’d also get to cancel her membership to the gym? What might have been the sketchiest ad for an English major in history, may have turned out to be her luckiest break.
“I’ll have a full write up on the routines for the house: when meals are served, laundry, guests, etc.”
“Great,” said Laura.
Miss Lancaster stood and extended her hand. Laura stood and shook it. “Graumann will show you to your room.” Miss Lancaster pointed behind Laura. There, on the other side of the glass door, was a man in a white button-down shirt, a black tie, and black pants.
“Um …” started Laura.
“Yes?”
“When will I meet Miss K?”
“Ah, yes,” said Miss Lancaster. “Each night, Miss K has what she calls a Muse Session. You will meet her there tonight to start. It will be after dinner.”
“Not until then?”
“No. And let me make this clear,” Miss Lancaster’s smile faded, “you are not to harass or bother Miss K. You should not go near her office, her study, or her quarters. She will ask for you when she wants you. Is that understood?”
“Yes, Ma’am,” said Laura.
“Good,” said Miss Lancaster. “Grauman?” she asked to the man behind Laura. He opened the door for Laura and gestured for her to exit. She followed him.
“What kind of name is Grauman?” asked Laura as they climbed down the stairs to the second floor, the one floor Angelica had made her skip.
“My name,” he said in a thick European accent. German maybe?
“Right, but where is it from?”
“My mother gave it to me.”
Right, thought Laura. Angelica nice. Lancaster scary. Grauman might be crazy or stupid. Got it.
Grauman was surprisingly young for a butler, or whatever the hell he was. He seemed to be in his late twenties, the closest to Laura’s age of anyone she’s seen so far. He had thick hair that was parted to one side and slicked with something. It was a dark brown to match his dark eyes. Laura didn’t ask him anymore questions.
When they arrived at her room, Grauman held out his hand. Laura stared at it.
“Oh, um,” she reached into her pocket. “Am I supposed to give you a tip?”
“No,” snorted Grauman. “Your key.”
“My key?” asked Laura.
“To go and get your things. Yes, your key.”
“Oooo,” said Laura. “The key to my apartment. Right. Sure. Here.” She took the key off the keyring and handed it to him. In turn, he handed her a key.
“This will open your room, your bathroom, and the front door of the house. After midnight, the house has an alarm. You do not get to know the code.”
“Okay, but -”
Grauman turned around and stomped off.
“Guess I’ll figure that out later,” muttered Laura. She turned around to inspect her room.
It was gorgeous. And spacious. Room isn’t the right word. It was a suite. Laura had a small kitchen, a seating area for guests, and large four-poster bed. She’d seen rooms like this in movies or on television, but she never thought she’d get to sleep in one, let alone live in one.
She squealed when she found her bathroom. It was huge. It had two full length mirrors, a shower, and a bathtub large enough for her to lay down, sprawl out, and share.
Not that she’d shared a bath with anyone ever, but she now she could if she wanted to. Well, she wanted to, but if someone else wanted to, now they could.
After completely freaking out about how incredible her amenities were, Laura went to explore the house. No one had told her she couldn’t, but she felt nervous that she might accidentally bump into Miss K or go into some forbidden section of the house.
Luckily, she wasn’t ten feet out of her room before Angelica found her.
“Lost?’ chirped the blonde from behind her.
Laura turned around and smiled. “Unfortunately.”
“It takes time to get used to.”
“I mostly don’t want to accidentally bump into Miss K. Miss Lancaster made it sound like she’d bite my head off.”
Angelica giggled. “Oh, I certainly don’t think she’d do that. Miss Lancaster is overprotective of Miss K. She wants to make sure nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, interferes with Miss K’s creative process. None of us get paid if Miss K can’t write.”
“Makes sense,” said Laura.
“Anyways, I can explain the house to you like this: fourth quarter is entirely business related. There are offices, like Miss Lancasters’, meeting rooms, etc. Your office will be up there.”
Laura nodded, but inwardly she jumped up and down, screamed, fist pumped, and danced. Her own office? She had her own office and her own apartment and a swimming pool and a gym and a personal chef and …. Her own office?! She needed to get into romance novels ASAP. Apparently the pay is to die for.
“The third floor is for used for a variety of things. I showed you the gardens. That’s also where you can find the gym. There’s also the movie theater. It’s recreational, I guess.”
A movie theater?!
“The first floor is for entertainment. That is where the primary dining rooms, ballrooms, and guest rooms are. If we host as a party, which we don’t do too much anymore, it will stay on the first floor. The second floor is the residence. The east wing is for staff, like us, and the west wing is entirely for Miss K. Her office and suite all occupy that space. Once you come to the double burgundy doors, you’re entering into her space. Stay away from the doors, and Miss K will be left in peace. If she finds you in the garden, you’ll have nothing to fear from her.”
Laura nodded. Double Burgundy Doors are the point of no return. Got it.
“I’ll go through those doors tonight, though, right?”
“Hmmm?” asked Angelica, turning around. “Oh, yes. For the Muse Session. Yes, those will happen in her suite tonight. Yes.”
“Where are we heading now?”
“I want to make sure you meet all the staff.”
Angelica took Laura all around the house (there were so many stairs! Her thighs burned!). She met the personal chef, a man named Jacques. Angelica said he only spoke French. The other housekeeper was a curvy redhead named Nikki. She had an adorable Southern accent. Miss K’s personal assistant was a mousy girl with thick and large glasses named Erika. She wore a thick sweater and scarf even in the depth of a Memphis summer. Those were the only staff that lived in the house. Miss K kept the “non-essential” assistants worked “off site,” normally from their homes.
Laura had dinner with Erika. Nikki waited on them. Erika said nothing, but Nikki talked her ear off. Apparently, she had only been working here a week or two. Miss K felt things were being missed and wanted an additional maid at all times to help out Angelica.
Nikki was sweet. She reminded Laura of her roommate, Claire. Both girls were extremely extroverted and had no issues sharing any bit of personal information. Laura learned that Nikki didn’t have a boyfriend, but she went out several times a week to find “a nice gentleman to ride.”
Laura blushed like she used to do with Claire. Where Laura grew up, people didn’t talk that way. They pretended they never had sex at all. Sex was what whores and prostitutes had. Respectable people made love, at best.
But Claire helped Laura mellow out. Claire liked to tell Laura who she had recently hooked up with and gave her explicit details about it. Laura learned that Claire went to clubs to explore her kinks and fetishes. Laura followed Claire two or three times on these expeditions, out of curiosity. The clubs were strange and hot. People were pushy or needy. It was too intense for her. It was no different than going to a wild pride parade. Yes, people were celebrating their sexuality. No, Laura didn’t want to participate. Yes, she could be around them and not freak out.
That was precisely what was on Laura’s mind as she pushed through the Double Burgundy Doors to Miss K’s side of the second floor. Laura noticed immediately that the air was staler here, stuffier, almost thicker. It felt like Angelica and Nikki had not dusted here in years. Which is strange considering the fact that if Laura was a housekeeper, she’d make sure the area around her boss’ room was the cleanest of all.
Nevertheless, Laura wandered through the hallways, looking for Miss K’s suite. Luckily, Miss Lancaster found her and led her to the right door. Laura hesitated before entering. She’d barely heard of Camille Kontalban a day ago. She hadn’t read a single book by the woman, nor would she read her books if they were given to her. But now she’d seen the house and the staff. The woman must be made of money. And ambition. What kind of woman was she?
Miss Lancaster pushed open the door and revealed an empty suite. “She’ll be in her bedroom,” said the tall asian woman as she stepped past Laura.
“Her bedroom?” asked Laura.
“Yes.”
“What are we going to do in her bedroom?” Laura raised an eyebrow at Miss Lancaster. The woman smiled and waved off Laura.
“I’ll admit, this will be the strange part. But she writes in a highly sexualized genre for women who want steamy sex scenes with gorgeous men.”
Laura blushed and looked down at her shoes.
“But you won’t be doing anything sexual,” said Miss Lancaster, raising her voice as she caught how her words sounded. “I promise.”
Laura looked up. “Oh,” she whispered.
“I promise. We’d have mentioned that in the ad or in a contract or something. There may be sexual things going on around you, but you will not be asked to do anything you’re uncomfortable with and nothing sexual.”
“What kind of sexual things?” asked Laura. Were they going to watch porn together?
“That’s hard to explain,” said Miss Lancaster. “It will be easier to show you.”
Miss Lancaster reached for Laura’s hand, but Laura pulled back. “Wait. Before we go in there, tell me what I’ll be doing. Exactly.”
Miss Lancaster sighed and looked at her watch. “You will be asked to read a poem for Miss Lancaster while she is … serviced.”
“Serviced?” asked Laura.
“Yes.”
“And by serviced you mean …” led Laura.
“Yes,” nodded Miss Lancaster. “Exactly what you think I’m hinting at.”
“She wants me to read poetry while this happens?”
“Exactly.”
“That’s why the ad wanted me to be able to read poetry well?”
“Exactly,” sighed Miss Lancaster. She looked at her watch again. “Are you ready? We really can’t be late.”
“Wait,” said Laura, lifting her hand to Miss Lancaster. “I’m trying to figure out how I feel about this.”
Miss Lancaster stepped forward. Laura almost jumped back, but held her own. “Miss Delazier,” she said with iron in her voice. “You will be paid handsomely. You will edit her work, while having little editing experience yourself. You will copy edit her work while having literally no experience doing copy editing. You will give her feedback on a genre you know little of. You will have access to this home and all its amenities. And you get all this, despite your low qualifications, precisely because Miss K likes the way you read poetry. It is for that you were hired. If you won’t do this, we will be forced to dismiss you. Is that clear?”
Laura thought about all the magical perks of this job. This is the catch. Of course, there’s a catch. It was too good to be true. In order to keep the job, she’d have to participate in Miss K’s bizarre inspirational sex acts.
Well, not really participate. It was just reading poetry, right? She’d recorded poems and read them publicly hundreds of times. Sure, it was weird. But it was just reading. What bad could come from reading a poem?
Laura nodded. “That’s clear.”
“You’ll do as your told?” snapped Miss Lancaster.
“I’ll read the poem,” said Laura. “But that’s all I’ll do.”
“Good.” Miss Lancaster gave a sigh of relief. “Thank you.” She smiled at Laura, and Laura smiled back, though she didn’t know why. But Miss Lancaster didn’t linger. She stepped ahead of Laura and opened the door to Miss K’s bedroom.
Inside, candles were lit all around. There was no lamp of any kind. In fact, Laura didn’t think she saw a single electronic thing. No alarm clock. No television. No stereo. No phone charger. Nothing. There weren’t even outlets for electricity to get into the room. There were no windows, but there were two doors to the far corner. One was to a bathroom, where Laura could see shadows moving inside. The other was closed.
In the room were Grauman and Jacques. They both had unbuttoned their shirts considerable and taken off their ties. Laura admired their physique. Before, they looked like simple servants or businessmen. Now, she could see that their muscles were taut. Their shirts were constricting. They were strong and young. Laura could imagine their abs beneath their shirts. She wondered if they ever modelled for the covers of Miss K’s books. She felt herself flush with desire or embarrassment, she wasn’t sure which.
Neither Grauman or Jacques said anything to her. They barely noticed her. It gave Laura the chance to balance herself and adjust to her surroundings. The room was filled with the scent of candle smoke. Things felt surreal and thick. Laura wandered forward and caught herself on a stool near the door. On it, was a book. It was titled Poems by Marcilla. The book had a brown cover. It was old. The pages were thick and yellowing. Laura opened it and flipped through it. It looked as though the words were transcribed by hand in old ink. The script was flowing in beautiful calligraphy. How old was it? Laura felt she was holding a piece of history, but she’d never heard of Marcilla.
Laura looked up when she heard ruffling in the bathroom. A woman Laura had never seen, in similar clothes to Nikki and Angelica, scampered out of the bathroom and past Laura, almost knocking her over. Laura looked behind her to watch the woman go, but there was a sound from the bathroom. Laura turned to see the light come off and a woman who could be none other than Miss K stepped out.
Laura didn’t know what she imagined Miss K would look like. Perhaps she imagined some mousy bookworm that spent all day writing fantasies with men she would never have. Perhaps Miss K was an elderly woman: wiry, twiggy, and fragile. Silvered and ancient. But Laura never expected Miss K to look younger than her. It couldn’t be possible. Miss K had been publishing for ten years or so, but the woman that stepped out of the bathroom looked like she stepped off of a college campus.
Miss K was pale. Paler than pale. Pale women were cream. Miss K was snow. Her skin almost glowed in the dark room. Her hair was dark and curly, falling over her shoulders in waves. She was neither tall nor short. She wore a thin gold robe parted down the middle. Laura’s eyes were drawn to Miss K’s plump breasts and her ghostly nipples beneath. Laura’s eyes went to the floor, following the length of Miss K’s body. Miss K’s bush was absent, and two smooth and bare lips teased and embarrassed Laura.
But despite her impressive body, it was Miss K’s stride that struck Laura. She took small steps, carefully swinging each foot in front of the other before lifting a leg. Her hips swayed from the effort, but her feet moved in a perfect line. One foot swung out in front of another. There was a breath. Then the other foot swung out in front of the first. And decorating Miss K’s feet were a pair of bright blue heels. At the sound of their click on the wooden floor, Grauman and Jacques stood at attention for Miss K. Laura forgot about the missing maid, the ancient book, the hairless pussy, and everything else.
Miss K commanded the room.
“Laura,” she said with a smile. She reached out both hands for Laura to take, as though they were old friends about to embrace. Laura hesitated, but stepped forward and took both of Miss K’s hands in each of hers.
“I’m so happy you could join us here,” said Miss K. Her voice was heavy and thick, as though it were coming from underground, or through a veil. But it was pleasant and inviting. Laura liked her instantly and smiled despite the situation.
“I’m honored to be here, Miss K.”
Miss K laughed and threw her arms wide, releasing Laura’s hands. Her robe billowed and Laura saw more of her naked body, her glowing skin, her rolling flesh.
“Please,” she laughed. “You’ve seen me naked. The least you can do is call me Camille.”
Laura smiled. “Of course, Camille. Thank you for inviting me into your … process.” Laura tried not to sound judgemental with the last word, but she knew Grauman and Jacques weren’t here for moral support.
“It is a strange one,” admitted Camille with a shrug. “But it’s worked so far,” she spread her arms again and gestured to the entire estate, her entire writing career. “After this, my mind will be brimming with stories and words and sensations to put into my characters.” She stepped towards Laura and whispered, “and thus my readers.” She winked, and Laura found herself smiling again.
“But, let’s get to it.” Camille stepped away and clapped her hands. “Laura, darling, all you have to do is sit on that stool and read those poems. The words and the boys will do the rest.” Camille gestured to the poems Laura had found already. “Start at the beginning. There is a bit of a narrative to it all.”
Laura was about to ask about the author and the book, but Camille shrugged out of her robe. Grauman picked it up and carried it into the bathroom. Camille sat on the edge of the bed, turned, and faced Laura. Jacques went around the bed and sat next to Camille, facing away from Laura. He held a silver bowl, and in it was a flash of black and red. He extended his hand, and Laura saw a chocolate-covered strawberry. He lowered it, and Camille bit into it. Rivulets of red juice dribbled down her lips and her neck. Laura blushed and looked away.
Grauman came back from the bathroom without the robe. He stood in front of the bed, between Laura and Camille, and sank to his knees. Laura finally figured out that he was going to eat out Camille while Jacques fed her strawberries.
All while Laura read her poetry.
Grauman lowered himself to Camille’s flawless pussy. He began with long licks. Camille shivered, but she didn’t pay him any more attention than that. Instead, she caught the dripping strawberry juice as it slipped between her breasts. She licked her fingers and motioned for Jacques to feed her another bite.
She went back to college, back to Claire and the orgies and the kink clubs. She’d seen someone eaten out before. It was strange, asking her to participate with poetry, but no stranger than people dressing up like animals to have sex.
All she had to do was focus on the poems, the words.
She could do that. She could do words for days.
She opened the book. There was no table of contents. No publishing or copyright information. The first page began with a poem, like someone’s personal journal. Laura read:
The Yawn
Across the hall gather the women,
Each watching their husband,
Each daring him to dance with
Each strategic tittle of breast.
But Miss Laura Karnstein
Turns her head and yawns.
Her unadorned neck grows tight,
Then sags with parted lips,
Her mouth wide with boredom.
Laura looked up at Camille. Her mind ran over the name. Laura? The poem is about a Laura? Coincidence? It must be a coincidence. Laura is a popular enough name. But odder than that was the poem itself. This is what she wanted to read? And a poem about a yawn? Again, Laura wondered at the age of the text. Tittle? That’s an old word. This is what Miss K wanted to listen to while she was serviced by her two strapping employees? Laura watched Grauman as he went deeper into Camille’s pussy. His tongue gave long and deep strokes. Camille’s lips were bright red from strawberries. Her chin, neck, and the top of her breasts were also faintly pink.
Laura shrugged and continued:
But her porcelain skin catches me.
The length of her thin neck,
The pale skin masking
So much red life, so much
Thrumming potential,
But she passes it on
As yet another yawn.
I look for Mr. Karnstein,
But he is neither in Miss Karnstein’s eye
Nor among the men.
He must be a yawn,
Missing the twitch in her
Pulsing throat,
The brazen sign of desire
For more than this,
Camille moaned. Laura looked up again. Camille’s eyes were open. She was staring at Laura. Jacques offered her another strawberry, but she shook her head. She ran her hand through Grauman’s hair. Camille kept her eyes locked on Laura and moaned again, tilting her head back, but never looking away. Laura blushed and kept reading:
More than traditional dances.
She pulls away, and I follow.
I see the vein of her neck shiver,
And I join it. The first twitch
Of game before it runs; she rises
To excuse herself,
As though it possible,
As though a resting note,
A caesura,
May be
pardoned
or ignored.
Laura paused again. A line break like that wasn’t conventional for the time period. That’s a visual element of a poem, saved mostly for the early 1900s. She felt tempted to skim through the book, to find more evidence of who Marcilla was and when this poem was written.
Camille moaned again. Laura felt heat rush to her thighs. She blushed at being turned on and the impossibility of the scenario. Heat spread through her cheeks and down her neck.
Her neck. Laura’s neck.
She saw it clearly, Laura Karnstein bored at a party. Laura Karnstein’s neck stretching and yawning. Her neck taught. Her neck bare. Her neck pulsing. Laura’s hand brushes her neck, self-consciously trying to hide it from Camille’s gaze. She dare not look up, dare not see Camille staring into her, moaning at her. She read the last couplet:
But I rise and follow.
She retreats, and I give chase.
Camille let out a shrill moan. Laura looked up and sees Camille’s back arch, her head flung back, as she humped Grauman’s face. Jacques abandoned feeding her strawberries, and licked one of Camille’s nipples. Camille spasmed and let out another moan.
Laura found herself hoping Camille would cum and be satiated. She didn’t want to endure another poem. She wanted to take the book away and pour through it. She wanted to find out how it was made and who wrote it. Who was Marcilla? Was this autobiographical? Was Laura Karnstein real? Her warm, throbbing neck?
But Camille’s moans rolled on. She almost fucked Grauman’s face with her fevered thrusting. Jacques used a free hand to administer to Camille’s other breast, but she stopped him. She paused, hesitating. She went rigid, and then sighed.
Laura couldn’t help but notice Camille’s thighs quiver as Grauman moved away.
Both men went the bathroom. Laura heard the sink turn on, and then both men walked past her and left the room. Could Laura join them? Did she need permission to go? Would Camille dismiss her? Or would she read more? Would she give chase to Laura Karnstein as Marcilla did?
Camille lay on the bed for a minute. Her chest heaved as she caught her breath. Another finger absentmindedly swirled over her clit. Laura’s thighs were warm from watching such a beautiful woman glow in the dark and openly touch herself without shame. What a power, to be so shameless.
No. Shameless implies she ought to be ashamed. Camille was free of shame, and that stirred Laura again.
Camille sat up and smiled at Laura. “Thank you, Laura. That was a beautiful reading.”
“Really?” asked Laura, flustered from the compliment.
“Yes.” Camille came to sit at the edge of the bed, but one hand never left her smooth mound, keeping soft circles rolling over Camille’s clit. “You have a beautiful voice. It fills the room, like your words roll over my body.”
Laura blushed and hid her face.
“But don’t pause next time. Read it all in one rush of emotion. Poetry is a storm, not a story. Okay?”
Laura nodded, embarrassed at the gentle reprimand.
“May I go?” asked Laura.
“Soon, darling.” Camille fell back into the bed and kept touching herself. Laura looked away, wanting to give Camille privacy, though Camille clearly didn’t need it. She flipped through the pages of the strange tome in her hand. She turned to the next poem, something about a peach. She tried to read, but the light was dimming in the room. Laura looked up to see the candles low, and Camille sitting up, her robe back on. Her lips were still bright red. They glowed on her pale skin in the fading light.
Then everything went dark.

those freckles hcs were cute!! if possible, can you think up of hcs where reader has a pixie haircut (more specifically that looks like a kpop idol's)? any bnha character can be included, platonically or romantically! :)
aw thanks anon :)) glad you enjoyed the freckle headcanons. for this one, i did bakugou, tamaki, and hawks.
you have a pixie haircut
fic type : headcanons [fluff]
legend : [Y/N = your name] reader uses they/them pronouns
≿————- ❈ ————-≾
Tumblr media
bakugou katsuki
okay so.. for bakugou— you kinda have oikawa’s haircut (but don’t worry anon, for tamaki and hawks, i did the actual kpop pixie)
anyway, he actually digs the haircut
i mean.. what is he to say about apperance anyway? he literally has spikey blonde hair and red eyes
before getting together, he’d admire the floof from afar.
he’d never admit this! but he kinda wants to touch it.
if you guys get together, your haircut is a plus when it comes to kissing
he doesn’t like it when hair gets in the way of things, so he finds your haircut practical.
plus, he knows long hair will not end well if you’re in the hero course (if not tied)
he WILL steal your shampoo and conditioner, and he WILL touch your hair
be honored, because bakugou never wants to touch someone’s hair— except for yours of course.
Tumblr media
amajiki tamaki
he finds you adorable
he doesn’t care if you have long hair that reaches to the floor, or a short pixie cut
he thinks it makes you look badass ngl
before getting together, he’d try to help you fix your hair if your hair style isn’t just.. doing its job.
it’s a friend thing he says
and he will stare at you when you’re not looking (but obviously, you can tell. his stare is.. intense.)
but after getting together—
if you’ll allow him, he’ll find himself touching your hair a lot.
hair sniffing (lmao it sounds weird) he just likes the smell of your hair in general
but, he’ll have to be careful about kissing you because he just doesn’t realize it when he leaves tiny bite marks onto your skin
so yeah, make sure to remind him whenever that’s about to happen! he’s cautious when aware.
he loves your hair, and if you suddenly decide to grow it out— he’ll be supportive ofc. (he will help you if your hair suddenly grows into an awkward stage.)
Tumblr media
hawks | keigo takami
he’s curious for sure
NOT THAT HE HASN’T SEEN A PIXIE HAIRCUT BEFORE
but.. he never thought he’d find someone with a pixie cut attractive
let me speak, it’s because he knows that most karens have that exact haircut not really sorry
but you !! you look good.
how can someone look that fine? he doesn’t know.
“hey birdie, did you change your hair routine again? your hair looks fine as always!”
like tamaki, he likes burying his head in your hair a lot
is it a bird thing?? you both don’t know
also, when he just suddenly picks you up and starts flying away
he loves that your hair doesn’t get all up in your faces
because, it’s short.
so like bakugou— he can say he thinks it’s convenient
if you decide to grow it long, he will help you do that! (like tamaki)
but if your hair grows a little awkwardly, he’ll tease you a little bit
it’s out of love! it’s because you’re so adorable.
≿————- ❈ ————-≾
likes and reblogs are appreciated! thanks for reading (ty for requesting anon:))
i do not own bnha/mha and it’s characters. boku no hero academia/my hero academia belongs to horikoshi kohei. i only own the writing.
do not plagiarize my work :))

N7 Challenge - 5 (Cruelty)
Summary: It was cruel fate that stuck Garrus in that cafe, waiting for his fake date so they could get that mission going. He would’ve been so much better as the tech oversight guy... damn the fact Shepard’s too gay to pretend to be into a woman realistically.
(Aka, Chris plays fast and loose with the rules.)
ME1
---
It was a lovely day on the Citadel... and Garrus was in hell.
'Relax, you're as stiff as a board. Nobody's going to believe you're on a date like that.'
His mandibles twitched as he listened to Tali through his hidden transmitter. Normally, this was where his visor would come in handy... except he wasn't allowed to wear it. No, apparently that was against the first date dress code and he'd been made to leave it on the Normandy along with his armor and weapons.
Well, he had a pistol stowed away... but that wasn't the same as his rifle, damn it.
“I still don't get why I'm the one who had to do it.”
'We needed a tech expert, and Shepard says... Shepard, what did he say again?'
'He's too fucking gay to fake being into a woman, so Tali was out. You were the only one left, Mandibles.'
The other Shepard's deep voice disrupted the quarian's electronic tones. Garrus hadn't been expecting it – the sudden change made him wince a little. Luckily, nobody at the cafe noticed. They were too busy eye-fucking their dates.
He knew this place, had walked past it when he had still been in C-Sec. It was a popular spot for couples to have their first date thanks to the fact it was public, fairly reasonable, and offered booze if things started to go south. Had he not been on a mission, the turian definitely would've been ordering a drink or two to survive this.
After all... he had to fake being on a date with Commander Shepard.
There was a point to all this, of course. According to Alliance intel, there was something strange about this cafe and the fact a lot of well-armed people tended to stop by after hours. He hadn't heard whispers of it being a front for something, but it had been sometime since he had walked a beat. For all he knew, someone could have moved in while he was gone.
That... or he just hadn't really cared. Scoping out hot date spots had never been high on his priority list.
“Where is my date anyway? He didn't run away at the thought of being in public, did he?”
Garrus hadn't meant to use that much scorn, but it leaked out anyway. It wasn't as if he disliked the man, per se … just found him incredibly odd and more than a little off-putting. He had a way of catching you off guard and hammering home that made the turian uneasy, not to mention his strange hamster tending habits. Add in the fact they had met by colliding into each other and... well, maybe he was a little salty.
So, he didn't dislike the Commander... but maybe they weren't quite to like just yet.
'You're not that ugly, Mandibles.' The Normandy's XO sounded bored on the other end. 'I think he's scoping the area out. Make sure to appreciate the view when you see him, I worked my ass off getting him ready.'
'She really did a good job, I'll be amazed if you recognize him at all.'
Well, that was perfect. Guess they were going for the blind date angle and taking it to the extreme.
“Thanks.” Now he really meant the sarcasm as he sipped at his water. If he was on a date, he should probably wait before he ordered anything. That was polite, right? “I swear, you two are enjoying watching me suffer.”
He could expect that from the human, but Tali's cruelty really caught him off guard. Who would have known the quarian had it in her?
The line went quiet not long after that – no doubt they'd gotten their fill of his misery. Garrus was left to glance around in the hopes he might spot Shepard. He had already checked all the obvious spots, but nobody quite fit the profile of short and kind of awkward looking.
Ok.. maybe that was mean. But the guy was awkward. Even he said so.
“Where are you...” Garrus' mandibles twitched as he kept looking. Really, it was couples as far as the eye could see. Apart from a couple school-age looking girls gossiping, everyone else looked to be on a date. There was nobody who stood out as being on their own, especially not someone who looked to be casing the joint. “Shit, he better not be the girls.”
Before he could worry if he was going to have to ask one of the teenagers if they were actually a fully grown man in disguise, a shadow fell across the table. He looked up, expecting to have to apologize to the waitress for taking so long to order. The excuse was already on his tongue – his date wasn't there yet. But then it died on his tongue.
There was a man standing there, human and wearing the tightest jeans Garrus had ever seen. He gave a little wave as he smiled, eyes sparkling. Well, eye – the other one was covered by his blue-streaked blonde hair.
“Hey there, been waiting long?”
Garrus' brain had short-circuited long ago. It didn't help that his tongue had somehow glued itself to the roof of his mouth of the sight of the man and his incredibly tight pants. Really... he must have had to paint those damn things on. Weren't humans concerned with ball space or something? Their genitals were on the outside...
Also wasn't he supposed to be straight? Why was he checking some dude's ass out?
Right, words. “Uh... what?”
The man chuckled as he sat down. “Sorry I was late, I know we said we'd meet at 2 but I got held up at work. You didn't wait long, did you?”
By now, the turian's brain was thoroughly fried. Somehow, someone had mistaken him for their date. Scenarios to get him out ran by quickly – the most obvious being to tell him that he wasn't there on a date at all. But that would probably break his cover...
And more importantly, Shepard and Tali would enjoy it way too much. They were evil.
“I...”
“Anyway, thanks for waiting for me. I hear this place has great tea. Not sure what you can get, though. Are you allergic to levo?” The man's voice lowered as he leaned forward to whisper to Garrus. “Perimeter's clear, though the back door has some pretty serious locks for a simple business. I think we're onto something.”
His brain turned back on. “Wait... Shepard?”
The man's cheeks turned pink as he sat back down, playing with the ends of what Garrus realized now was most definitely a wig. “I told her it was too much, but she said otherwise I would've been too easy to spot.”
In theory, that made sense – Shepard was the first human Spectre. Pretty much everyone had seen the video of him accepting the position at least once. To say a small human with a bight red military haircut and a missing eye would've stuck out in a popular cafe was putting it mildly. Honestly if any of this was actually true, it might have gotten guns pulled on them had they tried it.
Which, probably would've made things easier but they were trying to be subtle.
“Well... she's right. Those two are probably enjoying this.” He moved in closer as well, if only to prolong the image. That close, he could definitely smell Shepard had been sprayed with something that wasn't sweat. It wasn't bad just... odd. “So... see anything else?”
Shepard pulled the menu so he could flip his wrist over to expose his omni-tool. Specs popped up, showing the blueprint of the building. Garrus' facial plates twitched as he gave it a brief once over, stopping at the basement level.
It was pretty damn big... maybe too big for a restaurant.
“I think it's shared with a building halfway down the block that has connections to the Blue Suns.” Another spec, for a place Garrus definitely remembered as being a suspected front for something. They had still been working on it when he left C-SEC. Maybe they'd wind up wrapping two cases. “It'd probably be easier to get into this one once it closes up...”
That would be in a couple hours... so they were probably doing dinner then.
“Hi there, are you two ready to order?”
Both men sprung back up as they realized they had company. A cheery looking waitress had appeared, smiling at them like she knew what was going on. At the same time, the pocket of her uniform was sitting a little weird. Maybe it was a datapad... but maybe she was packing heat. The Blue Suns were getting creative with their recruiting.
“Uh, yeah. I'd like a strawberry soda for now.” Shepard had dropped his voice way below where Garrus thought he could, and his accent was different. He grinned as he turned to the turian. “How about you, big guy? Pretty sure I picked somewhere you could eat.”
It was hard to keep his mandibles from twitching. This was going to be a long night. Luckily, there were no turians around to pick up his subvocals as he shot murder over at the human. Instead, he checked the menu fast – honestly, he had forgotten it was there.
“Coffee is fine by me.” And then he remembered he had to pretend to be into Shepard. The pants helped. “Wouldn't want to be bouncing off the walls and kill the chance of a second date.”
The waitress giggled – maybe that was a datapad. That, or she was one hell of an actress. “That's one strawberry soda and a coffee for the cute couple at table 5 then. Be right back!”
And then she was gone. Both breathed a sigh of relief as they relaxed – it was a little harder for Shepard for obvious reasons. But at least they had managed to pass the first round of this fake dating nightmare.
“You didn't seem like the coffee kind of guy, Garrus.” His fake date sounded a little too honest as he leaned back. The turian would have thought him using the position to look around under the wig, but he knew better – that eye was dead. “Let me guess, you take it black as night and bitter as hell?”
Garrus' mandibles twitched a little. “Not big on sugar. Clearly that's not the case with you. You planning to bounce around all date?”
“Some of us need the energy. Besides, if you think this is bad you should see me slam pixie sticks sometime.”
Just the thought of it made Garrus twitch. Biotics and their energy requirements...
“Right, well, we should start to figure out where we're going next.” His eyes wandered back to the storefront. “Maybe a walk around? There's a park nearby that's beautiful at night.”
Shepard smiled at him, and his stomach flopped. Maybe it was the fact he hadn't eaten anything. “Sounds good to me. Now, why don't you tell me a little about yourself so if you try to murder me and shove me in a trash can, I can text my sister beforehand so she knows who to tell C-SEC about when you go to the bathroom.”
Despite everything, Garrus found himself laughing. The human chuckled as well, maybe in spite of himself. Honestly, the whole thing was just utterly ridiculous and the plot of some cruel spirit that enjoyed jerking them around. Somewhere, they were enjoying this.
Fucking spirits...
“You two are doing great. Shepard's scan gave me a weak point you can access once the building is shut down.'
Tali was back in his earpiece. From the sound of things, she wasn't in engineering anymore. Wherever she was heading this mission's tech corner was somewhere much quieter, and with a little less foot traffic. Maybe they wanted to enjoy this in private.
'Tell Al to fix his shirt, unless he wants to show his new underwear off when you two go to take your walk.'
The other Shepard sounded almost amused by this. Garrus felt his mandibles twitch as he glanced over at the human sitting across from him. Shepard had taken to folding a napkin again and again, turning it into a rather lopsided bird. If it were real, it probably would've been spawned near a toxic waste dump and probably glowed under black light.
But at least he was doing something with his hands that wasn't too suspicious.
“Hey, I know this is awkward because I shouldn't be staring at your ass yet-” At least Shepard had the sense to chuckle at that. “But... might want to pull your shirt down.”

Cute Short Pixie Haircuts
Cute Short Pixie Haircuts Styled Two Different Ways.  Either way you style this cute pixie haircut it’s edgy and cute all in one!  This pixie is cut very short on the sides and back, but a fringe is left on the sides and back to add some style and “edge” to this pixie haircut.  The top length of this pixie  is left longer than the average pixie haircut.  The front and crown are cut just a little shorter than the middle, this adds a little extra dimension to the top length, and gives this pixie a fantastic faux-hawk shape when styled.  The top is also texturized to give it a “piecey” look.  This can be a “cute” stylish pixie hairstyle or a stylish “edgy” pixie haircut depending on how you choose to style that day.
TO STYLE:  To get the Faux-Hawk Pixie Hairstyle..Apply a volumizing serum prior to blow-drying.  Blow-dry the back fringe right against your neck and the side fringe towards your face.  Using a medium barrel round brush, blow-dry the front up and back.  Blow-dry the crown towards the front.  Blow-dry the middle up, towards the opposite side.  Use a wax or texture paste to “piece” out the top and add shine.  To get the Cute Pixie Hairstyle…Apply smoothing serum prior to blow-drying.  Blow dry hair forward and to the side.  Put a small amount of wax or pomade in your hands…rub your hands together (this warms the wax up so it’s easier to use)….then run your hands through your hair and “piece” out the hair with the wax or pomade.  With a cute short pixie styling time is quick!
