Imagine being pregnant with Joel’s baby in Jackson. You know, you know he wants a girl. Of course you also know the most important thing to him is having a healthy baby and you okay, but there’s nothing wrong with a preference, and Joel’s is a girl. It’s understandable, considering he lost a daughter. It’s not that this baby is a replacement or anything you know that. No one could replace Sarah. But between Sarah and Ellie’s he’s had girls, he’s he knows girls, he’s a girl dad. So yeah, he just has a little bit of a preference no big deal

Sometimes he slips, when talking about baby he said “she” sometimes you do too. You both tend to accidentally refer to baby as the girl option for a name you picked. You both become so comfortable and used to the idea you’re having a girl by the end of your pregnancy

And then you give birth to a boy

At first of course you don’t even think about it. Maybe there’s complications. Maybe they were born with a defect or disability. Maybe they were born healthy. No matter what, you and Joel are simply ELATED at your perfect baby boy.

Then a few days later, the high is gone, and you start over thinking.

Joel finds you one day up in the bedroom, you just get done breastfeeding and you’re holding your son crying. Naturally he’s concerned!!! Baby what’s wrong!!!

And you just break down in your post partum emotions telling him you feel like you failed him by not giving him a daughter

Naturally Joel is DISTRAUGHT at the idea you think he’s disappointed, or even mad????

And he says that no, he’s not disappointed or mad or sad he has a son. Yes, the girl was the preferred option, sure. But that’s because that’s what he knows! As soon as he saw that little boy, he knew that he was absolutely perfect as he was, the most perfect little guy he’s ever seen. How could he have ever wanted a girl when his son is so perfect as he is????

Joel loves his daughters, he loves his son and he loves YOU, and nothing will ever change that

At the same time, Desiree had sneaked into Clockwork's lair to observe his time windows (something the time master was fully aware of), and heard Jason sigh in resignation and say, "I wish I had someone to love, someone similar to me" with a sad voice; Although he was good at hiding it, Jason had always wanted a romance like the one described in his books.
