Objectively speaking Boxing Day is probably the stupidest day to send off joycon controllers to Nintendo to get fixed, but that’s the day I had motivation and time for it, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#3 of my 4 joycons have an issue which is fucking unbelievable#Nintendo you used to be known for your incredibly sturdy hardware#my original SP? still going strong. my GameCube? great shape!#my 3ds? dropped it down a flight of stairs New Year’s Day years ago because I was fucking hungover and it was just fine!#this is like the 3rd time I’ve had to send a switch controller in though wtf#I am happy to report they continue to be the nicest and also most fun customer service to call into#they play the hyrule field theme as wait music#and one time my brother had to get his Wii repaired and it turned out it was because my nephew had crammed pennies into the disc slot#they repaired it for free sent back a very cute little cartoon not suggesting we don’t do that again AND included the offending pennies#in a little plastic baggie#anyway hope your Boxing Day is going well lol

I just finished a new set of earrings for my Etsy shop!
These custom video game earrings are modeled after Nintendo Switch Joycons!
They were a delight to make, and the material shrunk really well!
My second ever order from my shop, I'm really excited to have new projects to make!

I lost a thumb cover for a joycon, which if I found it in a place that I vaguely would’ve expected than it would be fine. However I didn’t, which means I either launch that tiny rubber prick or someone in my family didn’t respect my customizations.
#ok I understand that it would help to see the letters or whatever#and I understand that bit but like joycon thumb covers don’t change the controller experience#however still dick move#also I feel like we all know what a Xbox controller looks like#customization#nintendo switch

PSA: Don’t order from this Etsy shop!
Long story short, I got scammed. I’m gullible and should’ve just gotten a refund from Etsy when I first suspected there was something wrong. But this shop has so many 5 star reviews, I really believed their story.
So I never got the gift I bought for my mom, and I have no hope of getting my money back because I waited too long to get angry about it. But maybe I can save someone else from wasting their money.

So, I may have accidentally bought a bootleg pro controller...
Phone decided to not change the angle when taking a pic
I think it's bootleg cause-
Those box looks different from the actual box
The image itself is pixelated a bit
It reads like a generic pro controller 'for N-switch'
It lacks the TotK or gold Nintendo logo
There was no tape on the box lid
The paint on the actual controller has smudges
The charging light is smaller than my pro
Joycons are flatter, wider, shorter and stiffer than my regular pro. They also have lines underneath the thumb pad.
I mean, it works, and the Switch does register its colours but I have read with a bit of tech savvy, you can make the Switch register new colours. Custom joycon creators sometimes do it for their coloured stuff. I haven't tested the amiibo readability yet, but it does have motion controls, rumble and the buttons all work. Boy, does it rumble! It vibrates more than any other controller I've had, for any console. The only other controller that vibrates as much as this one does would be the PS2 controller.
I just wish I realized it wasn't legit when looking for it. But as long as it doesn't start failing and breaking I guess it's not a total loss. I do need another controller with amiibo readability, assuming this one does since I haven't tested it.

Triton approaches Dad with the biggest grin on his face, as he reveals Dad's Nintendo Switch that had 'mysteriously' gone missing. Only now it was coating in a skin decorated with ocean waves, his favourite sea creatures and his name decorating the back, with irridescent details on both joycons with seaweed and tentacles curling around the custom detachable controllers. "Happy Dad's day, Dad! Found this thing just lying around. Good thing it had your name on it." Honestly it was just too easy to steal.
"damn. i'm gonna have to tell delphin to increase security around here." poseidon fired back, raising a bushy brow at his son as he fought back the urge to laugh. only then did his eyes truly fall on the switch, taking in the new design. sea greens went wide, mouth falling open in surprise. "wait... wait, did you actually do this for me? this is the coolest fucking thing i've ever seen."
poseidon snatched it out of his son's hands, beaming ear to ear. "thanks, kid! i love it!"

you are so right!!
honestly i was not expecting people outside of our immediate customer base to see this post, but i can see a bunch of you are sharing it and i really appreciate it.
for those of you who don't already know us, we are a small business run by me (maya) and my wife devin. we design and sell ethically made, size inclusive clothing that is made to last.
our staple are fun, illustrated skirts that fit sizes XS-8X and have pockets deep enough to fit an entire nintendo switch, joycons and all.
we also have some cute shirts and sweaters that fit sizes S-6X, which are super duper on sale right now!
plus our new loungewear set and a couple dresses as well!
Things are bad right now.
As many of you know, way back in 2020 we weren’t sure if our business was gonna make it. Our factory was already on break for Lunar New Year–a month-long holiday for many businesses in the area–and with the announcement of COVID19, everything shut down indefinitely. We knew immediately we were in for a bad time. Despite our fears, our sales grew so far beyond anything we ever expected, to the point where we had to hire two employees just to keep up with demand!
Unfortunately, even after our factory reopened, our problems were not over. Their quality drastically declined almost immediately, to the point that a significant amount of our fabric would literally fall apart in transit between the factory and our office. Because of this, we discovered that our sales rep had no idea what she was doing and knew nothing about the factory she was representing, so when we told her the fabric was garbage her response was “👍 factory said it’s good!” At the beginning, only roughly 10% of our new product was defective and we were able to sell the affected items with a reasonable discount. By the end of our relationship with that factory, 40% of our midi skirts and 70% of our miniskirts were defective, some affected so severely that they practically fell apart when touched. And still, our rep said everything was fine and there were no problems and the fabric composition had not changed.
So in 2022 we changed factories. We hired Ash to handle this since I was way too busy managing fulfillment to do the amount of research and communication necessary to find us a factory that met our criteria. Finding clothing factories that can make clothing over a size 2-3X is significantly more difficult than one that can’t because it often requires larger and more expensive machinery. But Ash did it: she got us set up with a new factory that has excellent certifications for both their labor practices and their methods for textile production, that delivers consistent, high quality sewing on well made fabric that can be printed without suffering loss in detail–and she was armored with the knowledge for what makes a quality garment so she could check them if they tried to screw us on quality. Their minimum orders were way higher than our previous factory’s, so we decided to focus on ordering more units of fewer designs. We ordered way too much our first round–some of those designs were in stock until the 2024 blowout sale! But it worked out, and slowly we had a warehouse full of stuff to sell.
Fast forward to 2024, business is slowing down between the economy being bad and what seemed to be a general skirt fatigue amongst our customers. We tried expanding into shirts, which would’ve been successful if our minimums were lower. In the late spring we realized we were in trouble if we didn’t make drastic changes and we ultimately decided to end in-house fulfillment and transfer to a third party fulfillment center that would support domestic shipping in Canada and eventually the UK, EU, and Australia. In order to make that transition affordable we drastically discounted everything and that sale was super successful! We were able to begin shipping from the fulfillment center with an almost clean slate, even if it did mean having to close the store for almost two months and thereby missing out on two very important months of sales.
Unfortunately, we were stupid. We continued to order new designs on an every other month schedule instead of switching to an every month schedule, forgetting that having a backstock in a variety of designs is what previously helped us float between orders and now we quite literally didn’t have enough inventory to match the sales we made for last year’s holiday sale.
That brings us to now.
We’re a little stuck. We have a round of skirts in production (yay!) but they won’t get here until February (boo!). To get back on that monthly cycle we would need to order the next round of skirts right now, but we can’t pay for production until that next round of skirts gets here; if the current sale goes well, it’s paying payroll, not production. We are currently in the very difficult, horrible situation of not having enough money for next month’s payroll unless we are somehow able to make significant sales with our very sparse inventory.
We’re scrappy and we do our best to adapt to disasters and I’m sure we’ll find a way to adapt to this one as well, it’ll just take us some time to get there. Basically we’re going to be okay eventually–hopefully later this year–but in the meantime if we seem frantic, now you know why.
If you’re been considering trying out our viscose shirts but haven’t been able to justify paying full price, they’re on clearance PLUS half off right now! That’s $9-$15 for the viscose tops, and other tops on clearance are $20-$45. Some of the shirts we’re having a LOT of trouble selling are now priced below cost to help us recoup some of the money we spent making them.
Any amount of support helps right now. Sharing posts, telling your friends, buying a $9 shirt–all of it helps. If our clothing isn’t your thing, we also have a Patreon you can support for as little as $1 a month. https://www.patreon.com/mayakern
Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you have a great rest of your day and that 2025 is a brighter, kinder year for us all.

Everybody 1-2-Switch! Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)
For this Everybody 1-2-Switch! Review, where Whatever the occasion, we can get the gang together and compete in a host of weird and wonderful minigames. Making friends with aliens perhaps? Maybe fill giant balloons with just the right amount of air, or step behind the counter of a manic ice cream parlor – all sorts of fun events await!
Everybody 1-2-Switch! Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 3.3GB download size. - Mini-game compilation gameplay. - Two ways to play - Joycon (supports up to 8 players) and smart device (supports up to 100 players). - Each player enters a name and picks a random icon. - Three team contest choices - 20 min, 40 min, and 60 min length games. - At the quiz party, everyone plays alone in a set of questions. - Bingo party everyone plays alone and uses their smart device as a bingo card. - Game options - level (normal/pro), footsteps and other noises (ok/not OK), changing places during play (ok/not OK), and extra points for smaller teams (enable/disable). - Horace the horse is your guide and host of the game. - Fully voiced voiceovers. - Each mini-game gets a video tutorial and a practice turn. - Games played are determined by spinning the roulette. - Your previous names are saved for easy access. - Simple controls require just movement and some are button presses along with movement. - Feels like a sneaky fitness game. - You choose the teams by having everyone go left or right. - Once you play a game, it becomes available to play from the previously played games list and it shows it supports smart devices and/or joycon. - The Quiz party has three ways to play - combo, custom, and spontaneous. - Great collection of games from things like squats to balloon pumping and alien invasions. - Goes for a game show-style presentation and atmosphere. Everybody 1-2-Switch! Review Cons: - A lot of the acting feels cheese and over the top. - No touchscreen support. - You have to play the games first to unlock them in the play a particular game list. - As game choices are random it can take a while to unlock them all. - If you can't be bothered or something then you don't get all the games to play as they require a smart device. - No online multiplayer or leaderboards. - Offers no single-player games. - Feels like a game that should be bundled in with the console. arsiotenars I completely forgot about the drift, I never use the tiny sticks they're too small oops. Okay, Joycons are out and the logitech F310 (wired) is back. Honestly, I think a hardwire is probably a good safety feature. You don't want the plug popping out during a maneuver.
Actually, since I have infinite money in this scenario, I'm changing my mind again. I'll just call logitech like "listen I want the F310 but I want wireless added as a secondary connection, so I can use it wired but in the event of cable damage it switches to the failsafe wireless connection. How much for you to make that happen? You can keep the patent and shit and resell it, I'll pay the dev costs and sticker price per finished unit, so hit me with that big ole number."
It can't possibly be that much more than just buying a custom controller from one of those specialist companies.
Well the point is to make it easy to replace and cheap, so I think the best bet in my opinion is actually the switch pro controller, or if you want to get fancy, an 8-biddo controller, they make great controllers, my friend who's a Nintendo fan won't shut up about them. And they come with both wired and Bluetooth.
#that being said a custom cotroller with some extra redundency added could be a good idea#it's just that the guy was allergic to safet apparently; if I remember correctly/ didn't get disinformed#but at the end of the day it probably doesn't matter what specific controller you use if your ship turns to jelly anyway

Custom SNES shell this time, same manufacturer eXtremeRate. I’m gonna put a Game Boy shell on my real Switch and keep the SNES shell on this hacked one since I mainly use an SNES shell Pro Controller with that.
Pros:
Slick as fuck boiiiiii
"Soft-touch" plastic feels good, a different kind of premium to the slicker plastic Nintendo uses as OEM
Power and Reset buttons on the pattern feel molded into the back shell, it's slight but it's there
Cons:
The only replacement hardware that comes in the box are the fan grilles and some sponge material for pressure-relief on inside brackets. You have to port over the Game Card flap and the kickstand's internal mechanism from your old Switch, so good luck if they're broken and you bought this shell to replace those
The grilles and sponges are DIY, you affix them to the back plate yourself
This one is on Nintendo, but the back shell is partially held in via the middle joycon rails, the middlemost screw has an anchor behind it. I understand why Nintendo did this, but I want the designer responsible to die for reasons of deception
Overall rating SNES/10, I would much rather replace Switch backplates all day than replace joycon shells.
