Tooling Innovation Provides Relief to Mask Shortages
Tooling Innovation Provides Relief to Mask Shortages
Today many manufacturers are experiencing trying times. With the coronavirus still rampant, many shops are under siege to protect workers as directed by stay-at-home government directives and others are suffering financially while employees are forced to stay home.To get more news about 2k mold, you can visit asm-mold.com official website.
An idea came to 2K Tool Engineering Manager Kevin Smith while he watched the news and heard a request for toolmakers to develop tooling for face masks. Smith immediately saw this as an opportunity for his business to help. Although sales for his business dropped due to the automotive focus of many of his customers, Smith is blessed with a variety of “essential” customers that are keeping his shop operational, while many other shops are closed due to Michigan’s “stay-at-home” executive order.
First, Smith found a basic CAD design for 3D printing a mask online from a 3D Printing Science Center in Montana. He then converted the file to a plastic injection application, took some of his available aluminum stock, and began to make the mold.
The lead time for this project was brisk. It took only one week to design, build, and then start mold trials. “Companies are already asking me about my design and materials,” Smith says.
There were, of course, obstacles during the design stage. The first version had the insert held in from the outside of the mask, but as the mask bent, the insert and filter fell out. “It takes trial and error to determine what set up works best. We were able to redesign the mold quickly, and the new design functions very well,” Smith says.
The mask material is a TPE, while the insert is a Polypropylene compressed-fit to hold in the Hepa filter. Smith initially had problems finding the Hepa filter material, but local furniture manufacturer Steelcase Inc. stepped in to help in the short term.
Cycle time on this mold is 30 seconds. The mold for the insert is around the same part-to-part production time frame. Smith can produce 2,000 to 3,000 masks per day. When asked if he would be producing these in different colors, he stated, “No. The masks will be available in natural only, in case medical personnel will need to see any contamination on the mask.”
Part of what helped Smith turn this project around so quickly was his new “2Gen” plastic injection molding shop located only a 5-minute drive away from 2K Tool. This shop started as a sampling facility. Many of the tools in the building are low-volume production runs for Magna, but there is open press time for trial runs.
It is businesses like 2K Tool that give people hope, highlighting how American businesses can easily convert a bad situation into potential profits.

In April of 1958, Bill Hines decided to move from Lincoln Park to sunny California. Out west he landed a job at Barris Kustoms, and he stayed in California for about 9 months before he decided to return to Michigan again. Back in Michigan, he opened up another shop. He stayed in Detroit all of 1959 and built several custom cars there, such as Jerry Yatch's 1959 Chevrolet Impala that he gave a Candy Apple Red paint job. According to Bill, this was one of the first cars in the Detroit area to ever be painted with that type of paint. Teddy recalls that the Impala was brand new when Jerry brought it to his uncle. "He molded the side pipes on it, did the hood, deck, door handles, and all that. Then he put the teardrop taillights in it." Bill also installed a 1960 Buick rear bumper on it before he gave it the Candy Apple Red paint job. Teddy also believes Jerry's Impala received the first Candy Apple Red paint job in Michigan. "Uncle Bill was real good friends with Mike and Larry Alexander, so he went over there and showed them all the formulas and how to paint Candy Apple Red, and all the other colors. The blue. The Candy Gold. The Candy Tangerine. He gave them all the formulas and walked them through their first paint job. I think The Mroz Brothers' 1950 Ford was their first Candy Paint Job. I’m not sure if they did that or uncle Bill. It might have been the one uncle Bill taught them on. That car never got finished. They took it back to Chicago, and God only knows what happened to that car." Thanks for another ride down memory lane Teddy! In addition to the Candy Paint, Bill is also credited for being one of the first people to do molded-in side pipes. Jerry's Impala is also known as the Xcidian. It eventually ended up in California, in the possession of Eddie Martinez, and this beautiful photo of the car was taken by non-other than George Barris. Who is Niya?
Hello everyone,
My name is Niya Townsend and I am currently a senior at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. I will be graduating in December of 2019. My major is Entrepreneurship with a minor in Youth Studies. I am the president of a registered student organization (RSO) on campus called The Organization for Black Unity. This RSO is focused on creating a community for students of color on campus to come together and talk about different issues within our community. We are an all inclusive RSO, anyone is welcome to come to our meetings. I am also the Volunteer Coordinator of another RSO called Phenomenal Brown Girls. The knowledge I have gained from my major and minor along with the skills I have learned while being involved on campus has prepared me for my chosen career path.
Career Path.
Ever since I was a child I always knew I wanted to give back to my community. I never knew how I wanted to do so, I just knew it was a passion of mine. Growing up my parents always made sure I was involved in different after school and programs. The programs that I was a part of helped to mold me into the young woman that I am today and I am forever grateful. After graduation I plan to work on opening my own community center in Detroit, Michigan. I want to provide a location where the children of Detroit can come and learn about various cultural and educational activities.
Accomplishments with my blog.
With this blog I hope to connect with my classmates and to see their opinions on different topics. Social Media is a great way to interact with others and learn a bit more about them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A company that I believe to have a great social media presence is LeeAnne’s Luxury Bridal Shop. This company has only been up and running for a little over a year and already has great reviews. Although this is a Bridal Shop, that is not all that they do. LeeAnne’s rents their space out for different small businesses to have events, helps do community service around Detroit and does collaborations with different brands around the community. Their tagline is #DetroitGirlsGetMarried and they use that to get their audience’s attention and have their customers use the hashtag whenever they post photos in a dress or outfit from the Bridal Shop. LeeAnne’s post daily, engage with their audience and post different service opportunities they have coming up. Seeing them post volunteer and community service opportunities shows a sense of community that the shop has. They’re about business but also want to serve the community in which they’re in. When looking on their instagram they have a consistency on their page. They have the store’s location, phone number and email linked on their account to help potential customers contact them and see where they are located. Their website is also linked on the account.
I enjoy following this account because they post beautiful photos and seem very personable. Not only do they post models in their gowns and bridal wear, they also post the actual brides on their special day (with their approval of course). It is a way to show that LeeAnne’s cares about the customers they service. They have created an environment that is very friendly and great to follow!
Thank you for reading!

3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 tbsp powered sugar
1 tbsp buttermilk
1/4 teas hazelnut bakery emulsion
1/2 teas cinnamon

For the Rolls
Mix the yeast in a mixing cup with the warmed buttermilk and allow to sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Meanwhile, whisk the butter, sugar, salt, and eggs in a large bowl.
In the bowl of your stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, add 2 cups of the flour and make a well in the center for the buttermilk. Pour the buttermilk-yeast mixture and the butter-egg mix and start mixing slowly adding in the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 cup at a time.
Knead on low for 5 to 10 minutes until the dough forms a ball. Add the remaining 1/2 cup if the dough is not coming together.
Transfer the dough to a grease bowl, cover and allow to rest in a warm dry area, until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
Turn the dough out onto a clean working surface sprinkled with a bit of flour. Divide in half and roll out into a large rectangle
For the Filling
Toast the pecans in a preheated oven at 400 for 5 to 7 minutes, until fragrant. Remove, allow to cool, and chop.
Spread the nutella filling evenly over the rolled out dough., leaving an inch on a long end to roll. Sprinkle with cinnamon and chopped toasted pecans.
Tightly roll towards the edge that has been left clear, and cut into equal portions.
Arrange the rolls in a grease baking dish, cut side down, and cover.
Allow to rest, 45 minutes to 1 hour, until risen again.
To Make the Chocolate chip Pecan Cinnamon Rolls
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden and cooked through.

The Glazing for the Stairs in the Refurbished Margherita Theatre in Livorno
After its final closure, almost 15 years ago, the new owners decided to refurbish the building and to convert it into a shopping center. The entire project was developed with particular attention to the conservation of the building style. I n order to join the ground level to the former gallery level a new steel staircase has been placed and three laminated glass balustrades were added. The bigger one is a big rectangular glazing 4047 long and5765 mm high consisting of 8 rectangular laminated glass panels, each composed of two 12 thick fully tempered glass sheets laminated with PVB interlayer. Read more here...
There are numerous reasons why steel is so widely used in the construction industry. One of them is the fact that it is a very strong metal. In comparison to wood and other materials, a steel staircase is usually very sturdy. This means that if you use metal steps in your structure, you can rest assured that it will be safe. In addition, the metal is highly malleable. It could be shaped and reshaped into almost any form. Steel is increasingly being utilized by architects to improve their structures for this reason. It can be manufactured as a standard staircase or molded into a spiral and other stairway shapes. You would also be able to select the stairwell pattern that you like.

What can be done to make cannabis packaging more environmentally friendly?
LSD Vials

The cannabis industry continues to expand. Between 2021 and 2027,pax era ,it is expected to rise at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.3 percent. It is owing to an increase in demand for these items for both medical and recreational purposes.
Cannabis packaging materials should be cutting-edge. Here's how this market can make packaging choices that are more environmentally friendly.
Plastics can be reused for cannabis packaging.
Plastic containers are frequently used for packaging cannabis. Many cannabis businesses would prefer to remedy this issue.
Calyx, a Boston-based business that manufactures environmentally friendly packaging, is revising its mind on plastic. "We take the concept of reducing, reuse, recycle' very seriously," says Calyx marketing manager Anneliese Brosch of the company's procedure.
They are emphasizing how businesses may repurpose plastic in product packaging. The idea is to keep it moving so that it does not end up in landfills.

The risk of a major storm or other major disaster in your area can make hurricane coverage particularly costly. Even a minor hurricane can have an impact on your homeowners policy, possibly even more. To make sure you’re getting some of the lowest homeowners insurance premiums, don’t feel confident that a high-priced insurance coverage is going to come around. Use Insurify to low-cost homeowners insurance! “My husband had a major thunderstorm that was a few years old and had just started his third year as a full time resident of New Hampshire, but was recently hit by an hurricane. Homeowners insurance and mold remediation
Homeowners insurance and mold remediation can have major impacts on your renters insurance policy. What goes into insurance for that particular product? In this situation, you’re not alone in the process. You’re still paying for insurance, but you’re not going to get it cancelled. For example, if you have an accidental damage waiver or liability agreement, and your landlord is the one who pays for the damage, it would allow the insured to recover under their policies without any fees. Furniture Upholstery Styles Definitions And Applications

Furniture Upholstery Styles Definitions And Applications
Image by/from Benjamin D. Esham (bdesham)
Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather covers. The word upholstery comes from the Middle English word upholder, which referred to an artisan who held up their goods. The term is equally applicable to domestic, automobile, airplane and boat furniture, and can be applied to mattresses, particularly the upper layers, though these often differ significantly in design. A person who works with upholstery is called an upholsterer. An apprentice upholsterer is sometimes called an outsider or trimmer. Traditional upholstery uses materials like coil springs (post-1850), animal hair (horse, hog and cow), coir, straw and hay, hessians, linen scrims, wadding, etc., and is done by hand, building each layer up. In contrast, today’s upholsterers employ synthetic materials like dacron and vinyl, serpentine springs, and so on.
Upholder is an archaic term used for “upholsterer”, but it appears to have a connotation of repairing furniture rather than creating new upholstered pieces from scratch (cobbler vs. cordwainer).
In 18th-century London, upholders frequently served as interior decorators responsible for all aspects of a room’s decor. These individuals were members of the Worshipful Company of Upholders, whose traditional role, prior to the 18th century, was to provide upholstery and textiles and the fittings for funerals. In the great London furniture-making partnerships of the 18th century, a cabinet-maker usually paired with an upholder: Vile and Cobb, Ince and Mayhew, Chippendale and Rannie or Haig.
In the US, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Hickory, North Carolina are centers for furniture manufacture along with Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire (England) and many of the best upholsterers can still be found there. Nottinghamshire is also home to Webs training Ltd, a furniture training company that specialises in training apprentices in the furniture manufacturing industry. These artisans continue to create or recreate many antique and modern pieces of furniture.
Furniture re-upholstery continues to thrive in the UK with several businesses small and large providing these services.
Traditional upholstery is a craft which evolved over centuries for padding and covering chairs, seats and sofas, before the development of sewing machines, synthetic fabrics and plastic foam. Using a solid wood or webbed platform, it can involve the use of springs, lashings, stuffings of animal hair, grasses and coir, wools, hessians, scrims, bridle ties, stuffing ties, blind stitching, top stitching, flocks and wadding all built up by hand.
In the Middle Ages, domestic interiors were becoming more comfortable and upholstery was playing an important part in interior decoration. The decorations consisted mainly of what we would now consider as “soft furnishings”, though there were simple platforms of webbing, canvas or leather for stools, chairs and elaborately decorated coverings that already demonstrated the rudimentary beginnings of upholstered furniture. By the beginning of the 17th century chair seats were being padded, but this form of upholstery was still fairly basic. All sorts of stuffings from sawdust, grass, feathers, to deer, goat or horsehair were used, although in England the Livery Company forbade the use of goat and deer hair and imposed fines for misdemeanors. The stuffing was heaped on a wooden platform and held in place with a decorative top fabric and nails. This produced a simple dome shape sloping towards the seat. Only towards the end of the 17th century did upholsterers start to develop the techniques that would distribute and shape the stuffing into more controlled shapes. Curled horsehair was being used more consistently for stuffing that was easier to hold in place with stitches in twine that were developed from saddlery techniques. Thus layers of stuffing could be distributed evenly and secured to stay in place. On a basic level, squab cushions were made more stable by using tufting ties. Stuffed edge rolls appeared on seat fronts providing support for cushions to be retained and later for deeper stuffing to be held in place under a fixed top cover.:p12
What we now think of as “classic” upholstery shapes and techniques flourished in the 18th century. Frames of elegant line and proportion were sympathetically matched by expertly executed upholstery. By now, the upholsterers’ technical knowledge meant that stuffing’s could be controlled along upright and sloping lines, giving new levels of comfort and a simply stated elegance. Later in the century, the border was replaced by a single piece of linen or scrim taken over the stuffed seat and tacked to the frame. At the same time the locked blind stitch and top-stitching combination (pulling the side and top surfaces together and bringing the stuffing up to make a firm top edge) had evolved.:p15
In the Victorian era, fashions of opulence and comfort gave rise to excesses of stuffing and padding. Mass production techniques made upholstered furniture available in large quantity to all sections of society. The availability of better-quality steel springs and the development of lashing techniques enabled upholstery to be built up on seats, backs and arms quite independently of the frame shape. Stuffings became even more complex, edges became elaborately shaped into rolls and scrolls and fabrics were folded into soft padded shapes by means of buttoning.:p12
An automotive upholsterer, also known as a trimmer, coach trimmer or motor trimmer, shares many of the skills required in upholstery, in addition to being able to work with carpet.
The term coach trimmer derives from the days when car frames were produced by manufacturers and delivered to coach builders to add a car body and interior trimmings. Trimmers would produce soft furnishings, carpets, soft tops, and roof linings often to order to customer specifications. Later, trim shops were often an in-house part of the production line as the production process was broken down into smaller parts manageable by semi-skilled labor.
Many automotive trimmers now work either in automotive design or with aftermarket trim shops carrying out repairs, restorations or conversions for customers directly. A few high-quality motor car manufacturers still employ trimmers, for example, Aston Martin.
This is the type of upholstery work offered to businesses. Examples would be restaurant seating consisting of booth seats, dining room chairs, bar stools, etc. Also churches, including but not limited to pews and chairs for the congregation, hospitals and clinics consisting of medical tables, chiropractic tables, dental chairs, etc. Also common to this type of upholstery would be lobby and waiting-area seating. Upholstered walls are found in some retail premises.
Upholsterers may be called upon to repair or replace seating, cushions, cabin furnishings, headliners and even carpeting on boats.
Marine upholstery differs in that one has to consider dampness, sunlight and hard usage. There are many sources for marine grade vinyls such as Spradling and Morbern and they come in hundreds of colors and styles now.
Each style of marine grade vinyl is rated according to cold crack, rub counts, and mold resistance. Stainless-steel hardware such as staples, screws must be used to prevent rust and early break down of hardware and fasteners. The newest products for fastening vinyl in marine applications are Tenara thread and Monel staples. Any wood used must be of marine quality.
Usually a high-resiliency, high-density plastic foam with a thin film of plastic over it is used to keep out water that might get by the seams. Closed-cell foam is used on smaller cushions which can, sometimes, double as flotation devices.

The good, the bad, and the baked goods.
I owe the world an apology. I am have taken time to become selfish. I took some much needed time to step back and sort out some things and put my feet back under me. And you know what? It felt great. And now I am back – and ready to speak with that voice I lost along the way and show you guys those crazy travels and mouth-watering recipes that keep me grounded and excited to create!
We can get into those details later, you know, a little girl talk with cocktails. But for now, let’s roll into BRUNCH WEEK! It’s an event that’s been going on a few years and I am finally saddling up and joining in. A week-long party for crazy delicious eats centered around everyone’s favorite meal.
See, there’s something about brunch that works. So now, without further ramblings….

Chocolate Chip Pecan Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients
For the Rolls
2 1/4 oz packages active dry yeast
1 cup buttermilk, warmed to 110 degrees F
1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
1/3 cup sugar
1 teas salt
2 eggs
3 1/2 - 4 cups flour
For the Filling
1/2 cup peacans
1 cup nutella, warmed but not hot
1 teas cinnamon
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I used dark chocolate chips)
For the Glaze
3 oz cream cheese, softened
1 tbsp powered sugar
1 tbsp buttermilk
1/4 teas hazelnut bakery emulsion
1/2 teas cinnamon
Preparation
Remove from oven to cool
Make the Glaze
While the chocolate chip pecan cinnamon rolls are cooling, whisk the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar, buttermilk, hazelnut bakery emulsion and cinnamon. Spread over the cooled (but still warm) rolls and sprinkle with more toasted chopped pecans for serving.

Alternatively, you can line a cast iron pan with parchment and bake the rolls in cast iron.
