Thank you everyone for sharing this journey with us and giving feedback shaping this deck! Designing a deck of playing cards is a once in a life time project so we are going all out to make this the most beautiful and meaningful deck in existence!

My grandparents still play with cards they got when they were young(!), so it is crazy to realize that soon people will actually be holding these cards in their hands and play with them for years to come!

The cards will be printed on premium stock with a linen finish and the design elements and text on the tuck box will be cold stamped with silver foil. There will be a rainbow version as well! I might be biased, but it is very pretty.

Even though we use special printing techniques, I will try my best to make this custom deck affordable to as many people as possible!

Goldilocks: can we talk?

Lewis has been waiting for this text since he went jogging in the morning. His new friends would clown on him for going back, they don't get it, why Lewis goes back every time. Lewis just mumbles, 'That's my best friend, man.'

Lewis waits outside Nico's apartment complex, the guards all know him -- let him in easily, and the concierge rings up the elevator for him.

"Lewis," Nico breathes, opening the door. His hair is artfully tousled, and his white linen shirt is unbuttoned obscenely low, barefeet on his marble floors. "I didn't think you'd come."

When have I ever not? Lewis thinks, sullenly. Nico calls, and Lewis comes -- that's how they work.

"Man, you can't pull that shit that you did--" Lewis brings up the previous night but is interrupted by Nico.

"I went too far, I agree." Nico makes an approximation of looking contrite, failing. He curls up like a cat on the leather sofa, giving Lewis no choice but to sit beside him.

Nico had called, distraught, voice high pitched and whining -- a million miles an hour, and no substance abuse that caused it. How much he hates his university, he hates his professors, something about a grading dispute that Lewis couldn't be arsed to follow, then begging him to come over.

Lewis, who'd been out drinking with his friends, a free week between races, was jostled by them asking who called, if it was his ~girlfriend~ they'd hollered.

"It's just --" Lewis paused, "A buddy of mine. Fuck off." He'd shoved them off, all of them on whiskey and rum on Lewis' card.

"A buddy." Nico's voice had turned ice cold, and even tipsy Lewis knew this would blow up in his face, way bigger than it needs to be.

Sure enough, Nico had hissed, "No one cares if you're gay in Monaco, Lewis. Those friends of yours only care you're a bigshot racing driver paying for their crap."

The Nico in front of him has none of that nasty snarl to his voice, he's looking at Lewis through those disarming blue-green eyes all sincere. It must be the weekend, Lewis realises in a stray thought that isn't admiring how beautiful Nico is. Nico's too busy with classes to meet otherwise. Lewis' life is split into race weekends and not. Days of the week all blur together when it's not a Thursday - Sunday.

"I have a present for you." Nico produces a thin box from behind him, tied in a silk bow.

Lewis raises his eyebrow at him, skeptic. "You have a complete freak out on me and now you've got a present?"

Nico's mouth twists in displeasure, those catlike eyes narrowing. "I did not have a mental breakdown. I was just testing you. And I went too far. It wasn't productive of me."

Sure, whatever you say. Lewis refuses the urge to roll his eyes.

Nico holds the gift box out insistently. "Just open it. I promise you'll like it."

Lewis gives in, curiosity getting the better of him. Nico watches him open with some distant satisfaction as Lewis stops when he recognises it.

It's a box of chocolates, a box of chocolates from his hometown shop -- the smell immediately brings him back to walking down to school with dad. It had been a special confectionary shop, the most decadent chocolate Lewis has had in his life back then. And they'd shut down their store years ago.

"How did you--" Lewis asks in awe, biting into one and it tastes exactly like how he remembers it. Like biting into a memory. Rich, delicious, sweet.

"It wasn't hard," Nico says casually in a tone that implies it was hard, "I found the son on LinkedIn, got a good enough deal for ol' dad's recipe. Easy, really. Mostly customs was a bitch, you'd think I was buying a bomb."

"Nico, this is crazy, man." Lewis is oddly touched. It is very much like Nico to throw money at a problem until it goes away, but it's more that Nico remembered and in his own way, this was him trying. Lewis is so taken aback by the gesture, he doesn't consider this probably took Nico months to arrange, and not the previous night's outburst.

But Lewis goes a little stupid when Nico climbs on his lap, legs on either side, taking his fingers and making a show of licking them clean, sucking down on them. He sets the box aside, before fixing his attention on Lewis, the pale expanse of his bare chest and collarbone begging to be bitten and marked into.

"Let me make it up to you, Mr. Race Winner." Nico smiles, grinding down on him, and this is the part Lewis can't explain to his friends -- why he always goes back. No one else is as terrible and demanding and drives Lewis absolutely mad. There is no one else who compares.

Lewis does note that Nico does not apologize once. He can't really bring himself to care.

I’m trying out a new review process. I tend to hand-write all notes I take about the decks I work with. However, I have switched to a voice-to-text system, and today’s post is the first result of it. The Midnight City Tarot, by Jackie Franco, is the Fool's journey through the city that never sleeps, a New York inspired tarot deck for those seeking dreamy cityscapes.

This deck is Jackie’s love note to New York, and the cards are constant and dependable friends, and they are created with the intention of being a bridge connecting you to your own intuition. It features a limited colour palette, which is very prominent even at first sight, creating a very cohesive visual experience no matter how big the spread. At the same time, manages to be colourful, in what I can only describe as neon pastel. There’s a huge presence of purple, but also pink, blue, teal, black, white and yellow. I think the combination has a cheeky feeling, something that really awakens my inner child! This is also highlighted by the apparent simplicity of the art style (though there is no forgetting details, no matter how small). One particular feature I would like to pinpoint is how the characters are presented: they are silhouettes reflecting the city sky at midnight. (and the court cards glow the colour of their suit!). You can see yourself and others in them as if they were mirrors. However, I would not say that this is a character-based deck, but rather a spatial, atmospheric work.

The cards really showcase those aspects of our life that are often taken for granted. In them, you can find a lot of architectural elements, exteriors, interiors, concrete, stone, and steel. Each card is considered a subway stop on your journey, with the titles along the bottom mirroring the MTA signage. The illustrations have a double border (thin yellow and broader purple), but they often extend beyond them, creating an invitation to step into the cards, and imbuing life and movement into them. The cards have a delicious linen finish as well as fully-reversible backs; and they come in a sturdy, completely illustrated two-piece box with a small information leaflet.

The companion book (can be bought separately) is an 82 page guide which mainly focuses on the cards themselves after a brief welcome plus a section about the art. Each card is given one page of information, including its vibe, art, advice (upright and reversed), and something that I found incredibly interesting, which is the location of the card. By doing this, Jackie really adds realism and pragmatism into the cards, while at the same time manifesting that inspiration and signs can be found anywhere. It is in this book where we find that the cards are designed to evoke the synchronistic times when you look up and realize the scene in front of you is a symbol conveying the precise information that you need at the exact moment. The guidebook is as wide as and a bit taller than a postcard, which I know because the bundle comes with a couple custom postcards!

The Midnight City Tarot is an example of how a lot small details really make a deck powerful, personal, and evocative. Every design element, from the cards to the book, to the box, have been intentionally created to hold meaning. Its dreamy vibe, pleasing colours, and the magic it evokes for the mundane make this deck a super immersive experience. Even if I have never been to New York, I have come to love the image of it that Jackie offers. Some of the “Chance/Community Chest” cards don’t make sense (You’ve hired some Unsullied soldiers.

The fonts on properties around the board and on property cards is VERY difficult to read.

There were a couple of things that could be improved, though:

The rules come in a SCROLL with a ribbon (no wax seal, sorry).

The game plays EXACTLY the same as Monopoly so there’s no learning curve.

All of the locations feel “right” and as book readers, we didn’t notice any mistakes as far as lore goes.

In fact ALL of the pieces are of decent quality.

The metal pieces are very nice, heavy and interesting.

We had a chance to play the game ourselves and there are a few things that are great:
