#cursed version of this: Eddie gets a furby

(This can be modern au or 90s teens also I am projecting my desire for a tamagotchi here a little ok)

For Eddie’s birthday, Richie buys her a tamagotchi, joking that Eddie can now fuss over something else instead of mother hen-ing the Losers all the time. Eddie gets addicted to the thing though, she just really likes the idea of a virtual pet because her mom would never let her have a real one.

Richie gets jealous over the piece of plastic (its obvious to everyone but Eddie) and one day Eddie asks her to take care of it when she has a track meet. Richie considers breaking it because she wants Eddie back but stops herself... until the toy itself stops working. She panics and calls Bill and Bev because she can’t let Eddie know she broke it and they run all over town trying to find a replacement, but they can’t find one. Stan is leaving chess club or something when she finds the three on the the stairs, wallowing, and is like “did you replace the battery?” And of course none of them thought of that so Stan sacrifices her watch battery and they never tell Eddie what happened.

(The tamagotchi pet itself dies of old age like, two days later, and Eddie is so upset she and Richie have a mini funeral before Stan reads the manual and tells them them that if she resets it she can get a new pet)

this is gonna sound off topic but I know a lot of people consider Richie and Eddie, both male and female, to be the types to Not Want Children and I agree BUT it's kinda cute to imagine Richie not killing the thing bc she realized like

"ahah wow it's like me and Eddie r moms together thats sooo funny ahahah its like we r married and this is our lil family ahahah" bc shes lame
