that point in prayer where you have to ask "are you there, god?" i think is what gets a lot of people to start losing their faith
#that tiktok audio thats like 'are you there god? its me fiona'#and 'are you there god? its me margaret'#asking and asking and asking over and over again and unable to feel or hear or see a response from the being thats supposed to love you mos#idk it just made me start thinking more about the faith i had been raised in and why- despite everything i had learned and been told-#i never felt like i was loved by god- it just felt soundless and honestly pretty lonely#i think i still love god in the grand sense- not necessarily any one god or any particular faith#but the idea is something i can at least cherish- like some kind of perfect place that only exists in the mind#curse you dualist theory...

[SPOILERS] Theory on Bran
Okay, bear with me, I'm going to combine a few details.
George R.R. Martin once said in an interview he didn't even know for sure whether the gods in game of thrones were real. He is also very clear he likes to keep the fantasy as 'magic free' as possible, that is, use as little types of magic and magical entities as possible. He could be throwing us off with that comment, but I have a theory that I believe will make a writer genuinely say they don't know.
So we know that Bran have certain powers as he is the three eyed raven. He can alternative the past (talking to his father) although the 'ink is dry' so game of thrones uses closed loop time travel (the best kind of time travel, thank you George!). And see everything that happend everywhere at any time past, present and future. We can easily say Bran has much much bigger powers than other magicians like the Warlocks from Qarth or Melisandre.
Now we also know that the night king and Bran have some kind of connection. As he could detect and touch Bran as he was spied upon, and could find either Brans true location or end some protection curse by set touch. There are already theories that the powers of the night king mirror those of the three eyed raven. So besides raising wights, he is also able to see visions and interact with the past.
Then we have this theory that the Night King is actually the 13th Lord Commander. His name may no longer be spoken. And he is written out of the history of Winterfell.
Now lets take a look at the faith or R'hllor:
The religion is based on a dualistic, manichean view of the world: R'hllor, the god of light, heat, and life, and R'hllor's antithesis the Great Other, the god of ice and death.
...
R’hllor is also called the Lord of Light, the Heart of Fire, the God of Flame and Shadow. His nemesis, the Great Other, whose name may not be spoken, is known as the Lord of Darkness, the Soul of Ice, the God of Night and Terror.
Does the Great Other's description sounds familiar? The Soul of Ice, God of Night and Terror both very suitable names the Night King. They also have in common that their names could not be spoken.
So I start to wonder; what if the Night King is the Great Other? This would imply that the Three Eyed Raven (and in effect Bran) is R'hllor. But how does that work? How are Gods among man? The answer is: they aren't. Gods as in the religion are tales, told time and time again from person to person. Real people become legends, and magical events become God like. Let's remember Westeros is a land where people are raised from the dead, and some dude build an island wide 700 feet tall wall of ice.
In GOT, magic is subtle but real. Some are stronger than others. But maybe the Gods are not real, there are just two dudes fighting over control over the earth. The stronger growing Night King (in tales became the Great Other) and the Three Eyed Raven (in tales became R'hllor)
And how about the powers of R'hllor and all the magic he does? I think, just like in real life, people are just wrong about religion a lot. The God of Light doesn't raise people from the dead, Thoros and Melisandre do. It's a type of magic some 'normal' people posses in GOT. But maybe it's random, or not very reliable, and it is contributed wrongly towards some God. A God that, over the years, grew bigger and more influential in the tales, but in reality, it's all just people.
P.S. Martin said about the Night King the following:
As for the Night's King (the form I prefer), in the books he is a legendary figure, akin to Lann the Clever and Brandon the Builder, and no more likely to have survived to the present day than they have.
The Three Eyed Raven is passing his powers on every time they die, maybe the Night's King does so too. So the original Night's King was the first one created by the Children of the Forest. Then he passed his role on and on for generations. And one time it was passed on to the 13th lord commander, and thats just the only time we know about on the southern side of the wall. Therefore, the 13th lord commander become the nights king at some point, but died and is succeeded years ago.
