Farewell Message
This exhibition was born from a desire to cut through the noise and fear surrounding AI. I aimed to dispel common misconceptions and present a more nuanced and balanced perspective, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
I explored how AI is revolutionizing fields like medicine, education, and the workforce, offering solutions to pressing challenges and enhancing human capabilities. I also acknowledged the legitimate concerns surrounding AI, recognizing the need for responsible development and ethical implementation.
While the exhibition may have come to an end, the exploration of AI continues. I urge you to carry the knowledge and insights gained from this exhibition into your everyday lives. Continue to engage with AI, learn from it, and challenge yourself to think creatively about how it can be used to create a brighter, more equitable future for all.

The company Dove started a campaign called the Dove Self-Esteem Project with the main focus of delivering self-esteem education. They talk about how having positive body confidence is important, but can be greatly effected by social media. They discuss how teaching young adults media literacy is important and that teaching them that a majority of what you see is a false version of reality. Understanding that can really help you avoid some of those negative impacts.

That corresponds to the kind of tweets that have been posted by this 13 years old French on the gouvernement twitter account over night. It is written in French, it is really vulgar so I prefer not translating but for the one’s that are willing to know what he is saying I could answer to you via private message. Thanks for your understanding

This article talks about the reasons that social media can negatively affect estranged family relationships. It says how seeing constant updates and pictures of family or friends that have been cut off can be a negative reminder of what they have lost.

Hello!
My Name is Johnathan Knoke and this is my blog about Online Coursework the changing landscape of the higher education experience.  This introduction is a bit late in the semester as I thought we were required to submit them all at once later on, but now I don’t think that makes much sense so I am posting everything I have currently to catch up!  I am 26, I work Full-Time at a Water Park in the finance position and take most of my classes online.  I don’t have time to drive to a school, much less sit in class for 3 hours at a time, three days a week.  Online coursework plays a huge role in how I learn and achieve my degree and I plan to use it to further my education when necessary.  I do feel that people tend to abuse online coursework, but that it is the way of the future.  Hopefully by following this blog you will get the same sense.

Computed CurationProject by Philipp Schmitt creates a book of...
Computed Curation
Project by Philipp Schmitt creates a book of photography curated and annotated using Machine Learning:
vimeo
Computed Curation is a photobook created by a computer. Taking the human editor out of the loop, it uses machine learning and computer vision tools to curate a series of photos from an archive of pictures.
Considering both image content and composition — but through the sober eyes of neural networks, vectors and pixels — the algorithms uncover unexpected connections and interpretations that a human editor might have missed.
Machine learning based image recognition tools are already adept at recognizing training images (umbrella, dog on a beach, car), but quickly expose their flaws and biases when challenged with more complex input. In Computed Curation, these flaws surface in often bizarre and sometimes poetic captions, tags and connections. Moreover, by urging the viewer to constantly speculate on the logic behind its arrangement, the book teaches how to see the world through the eyes of an algorithm.

WEEK 7 (5/8/16)
(Picture of me goofing around with some goggles in the archives)
This week, I re-focused my energies on the curation project, which was comprised of doing research on similar institutions who had websites that featured certain collections within their archives. Laurel and I discussed that the current format of the UW Ethnomusicology Archives website is counter-intuitive and bunches together a number of links that don’t make semantic sense. She asked that I compile my research and then present a formal written recommendation for improving the current appearance and verbiage of our website. The final document can be found here.

How artists are using new media to bypass traditional distribution channels and forming new artist-fan relationships
Living in the age of social media and technology, it’s really hard for an artist to stand out and make themselves heard in an endless sea called the internet. With companies like YouTube, Facebook and Tumblr, it is possible for anyone to upload a video or clip of anyone and anything. So without the help of a financial backer, record label or personal manager; how can one relay their material and performances to the masses? I have discovered many musical outlets and processes that allow you to let yourself be heard for basically free. Sites like Soundcloud and YouTube let your record and share your music for absolutely free!
Many artist today are bypassing the mainstream recording studios and record deals to self-promote and record their own music. Take Jason Isbell for example. He has recorded, produced, and marketed a majority of his own music. This allowed him the creative direction that he wanted and was able to create a product to look and sound the exact way that he wanted. Not only did he create the records that he wanted to create, he also won a couple Grammy’s while in the process.
I will try and convey the possibilities of self-marketing and artist-fan relationships through my blog with posts pertaining to the subject. The World Wide Web is at your hands and can be your biggest backer and supporter if you know what you’re doing.

I loved this article. CNN talks about how social media has cause to an increase in self-doubt in many females, but it also goes on to talk about the possible solutions to this issue. It’s important that not only females, but males too become a little more critical of what they see on the internet. A lot of the people and images you see are unrealistic and edited.

Growing up, the need to feel popular amongst certain groups in school is common for many young adults before the social media era. But the pressure created today as a result of social media is an entirely different beast in itself. I can imagine that social media adds unnecessary stress to teens that once did not exist in my school aged days. With that being said, maybe it should be addressed in school to help young adults deal with the issues accordingly. The issues surrounding social media have become so problematic that a preventive approach should be taken in school systems as with most issues they address especially with the growing number of teens that possess and use cell phones in school. The concerns with being liked or accepted among young adults leads to deeper issues surrounding emotional health that should be addressed to raise awareness and provide a basis for guidance and how to seek help.

In France, 18 to 24 years old people are consulting their phones at least 50 times a day. That is worrying when we know the consequences of this permanent phone consultation. As I said in an earlier post, this addiction leads to depression and anxiety. As they say in the article, “This too intense use of new technology would, in fact, cause a chemical imbalance in the brain”. In order to get such an accurate conclusion, a doctor introduced a new type of MRI showing the chemical composition of the brain. The doctor decided to try this MRI on 38 random French volunteers, they had an average age of 15 years old. The results are enlightening because it showed that 50% of the volunteers were addicted to their smartphone or social network while the rest of the volunteers did not show any signs of particular problems. Some behavioral therapy have been proposed in order to limit the effects. The doctor wants to understand the reasons for this chemical that overexposes these adolescents to psychological disorder. Social network and new technology are becoming a real threat for development of young French people, some kids are losing control of their lives and it directly impacts the society because the youth is supposed to be the future of France.
