As someone who also comes from a culture that perpetuates some toxic familial structures I think there’s a strange urge to—because the Dellamorte family structure is rooted in a specific culture’s practices—leave it be because it’s harder to understand the roots of it if you haven’t lived it yourself. But like, I promise you there are younger generations working to break the toxic generational practices in black families because I’ve seen it, so I can only assume it’s the same for other cultures.
It’s not that you should leave it be, and it’s not that Lucanis is automatically immune to desiring certain changes because he grew up in this culture. There are just certain things that need to be written about with more care and tact than other things. Do your research like you would with anything else.
#I just think it’s a little weird that writing about the structures themselves like the actual game did is met with little resistance that#I’ve seen but once people attempt to acknowledge that it’s abusive and toxic and examine how one could possibly dismantle it#that’s when the issues arise? claiming that not wanting to be viewed as a victim is not the same as desiring change? hello?#cultural abuse is not some sacred practice that we are powerless to do anything about#like any issues of abuse and any issues of race and/or culture we should be careful about personal prejudice when addressing them#but not talking about this things at all is what allows them to continue#so the fact that there’s this idea that even in fiction it shouldn’t be addressed is not encouraging#lucanis dellamorte#dav thots
