In this article, we'll delve into the significance of this pivotal examination and explore how being well-prepared can unlock doors to a brighter academic future.
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) has become a significant gateway for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions to various universities across India. Introduced in 2022, this centralized exam aims to streamline the admission process and offer a level playing field for students from diverse backgrounds.
Whether you're a student aspiring to enter your dream university or a professional guiding others through the admission process, understanding the CUET is crucial. In this article, we'll delve into the key aspects of the exam, providing you with a comprehensive overview. Modulation Institute helps you to deal with it.
Understanding the Common University Entrance Test:
The Common University Entrance Test, or CUET, is a critical evaluation that many aspiring students face as they embark on their higher education journey. Serving as a standard benchmark in numerous countries, this test plays a pivotal role in determining admission to various undergraduate programs.
The CUET is a computer-based entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in participating universities across India. It replaces the multitude of university-specific entrance exams, offering a single-window opportunity for students to apply to multiple universities.
Key Features of CUET:
Multiple Levels: CUET is Conducted for both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs.
Standardized Assessment: Ensures a fair and consistent evaluation process across different universities.
Wide Range of Subjects: Covers divers subjects, including languages, humanities, sciences, and professional disciplines.
Flexible Choice: CUET Allows students to opt for subjects relevant to their chosen program.
Reduced Burden: Eliminates the need to appear for multiple entrance exams, saving time and resources.
Subject Coverage: The test usually covers a range of subjects, including but not limited to mathematics, science, language proficiency, and critical thinking skills. The specific subjects may vary based on the educational system and the type of programs for which the test is conducted.
Aptitude and Skills Assessment: CUET often assesses not only knowledge in specific subjects but also aptitude and skills necessary for success in higher education. This can include analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Time Constraints: Typically, CUET is a timed test, requiring candidates to manage their time effectively to complete all sections within the allocated time frame. This element is designed to assess not only knowledge but also the ability to work under pressure.
Computer-Based or Paper-Based Format: Depending on the testing organization, CUET may be administered in either a computer-based format or a traditional paper-based format. The transition to computer-based testing is becoming more common due to its efficiency and ease of administration.
Scoring System: CUET is scored, and the results are used by universities or colleges to make admissions decisions. The scoring system may vary, with some tests using a percentile ranking, while others use a numerical or letter grade system.
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and/or Descriptive Questions: The test may include a combination of multiple-choice questions and/or open-ended, descriptive questions. This mix allows for the assessment of both factual knowledge and the ability to articulate ideas.
Frequency of Administration: CUET is typically conducted on a scheduled basis, often annually or semi-annually, depending on the policies of the educational institutions or the overseeing authority.
Validity Period: The results of CUET are generally valid for a specific period, and candidates must apply for admission within that timeframe.
Admission Criteria: The scores obtained in CUET are a crucial factor in determining eligibility for admission to various undergraduate programs. However, universities may also consider other factors such as high school grades, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation.
Benefits of Appearing for CUET:
Wider Scope: Apply to a larger pool of universities with a single exam.
Standardized Evaluation: Compete on a level playing field with students from different regions.
Reduced Stress: Avoid the pressure of preparing for multiple entrance exams.
Transparency: Clear and well-defined selection process based on merit.
Life-time access to LMS (UG only): Gain access to learning materials even after completing your undergraduate program, enhancing knowledge retention.
Exposure to diverse subjects: Explore various subject areas through Section II, potentially sparking new interests and academic pursuits.
Preparation benefits: Hone your problem-solving, time management, and test-taking skills, valuable for future academic endeavors.

Consider CUET Scores For Admission to UG Courses: UGC to Universities, HEIs
The University Grants Commission (UGC), in its letter to vice-chancellors of all universities, and principals of all colleges of the country, has invited and encouraged using the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2023 scores for admission into their UG programmes.
“To save students from appearing in multiple entrance examinations conducted on different dates, sometimes coinciding with each other, and also provide equal opportunity to all students from different boards, the UGC invites and encourages all state universities, deemed to be universities, private universities and Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to adopt and use CUET score for admission in their UG programmes,” reads the official letter.
Tumblr media
This step has been contemplated a lot by authorities over a few years now. In order to avoid multiple entrance exams and more importantly to provide equal opportunity to all students from different boards, the statutory body came up with this idea for Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). As of now, many colleges around the country either conduct a separate entrance test for admission into undergraduate courses or make the class 12th board mark the criteria to admit students in various streams.
Earlier in December 2022, UGC, in a letter to all universities, highlighted some salient features of CUET — UG/PG 2023. The same letter acted as a reference point for the education body while calling upon all heads of HEIs.
In the letter, it was written that the number of subjects a student can appear in and the pattern of question paper will remain the same. In addition, a candidate can take as many as six domain subjects in addition to one/two languages and the general test.
The exam is held in 13 languages including Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The examination will be conducted on multiple days in three shifts, depending on the number of candidates and subject choices. The results of CUET-UG will be announced in the third week of June 2023 and for results of CUET-PG will be declared in the first week of July 2023.
This year, the number of subjects that candidates can apply for has increased. Last time, when the CUET UG exam made its debut, the NTA had allowed candidates to choose nine subjects but this year applicants can choose a maximum of 10 subjects from all three sections. The exam will be held between May 21 to 31.

Cutting the Cut-offs with CUET – A new approach
Before focusing on “Why CUET is important?’’ it is essential to know “What is CUET?”. With all the hype and news around by far, we know that the acronym CUET stands for Central Universities Entrance Test. The National Testing Agency, NTA is the body that conducts CUET for all the students of UG (Under Graduate) and PG (Post Graduate) courses. The CUET 2022 is all set to be tentatively in the 2nd week of June. It has been a few weeks since we were introduced to the CUET or Central Universities Entrance Test. However, there are still queries and or confusions revolving around it. And, as the NTA has started the registration process for CUET 2022, it is important to get a clear picture. What is it? How will it affect you? Who can register for CUET? What is the paper pattern? How can one register for CUET 2022 and so on?
WHY CUET?
Every student desires to get admission into their dream college or desired University after completing 12th standards or their UG Courses. However, earlier all the focus on getting admission was on the skyrocketing cut-offs that tend to increase each year, and surprisingly enough in the last few years, it turned to 100% in many universities. That makes it a problem for the students with good merit (e.g someone with 90%-98%) to get the preferred admission.
Now, with the introduction of CUET, every student gets a fair chance to perform their best in the entrance exam and get admission to their desired college or university.
ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES FOR CUET.
As per the National Testing Agency and UGC for now they have notified that they will be conducting the CUET for the UG courses in the month of June. However, they will be later on conducting the CUET for PG (Post Graduate) and Ph.D. levels as well. The following table will help us get some idea about the eligibility criteria-
SYLLABUS FOR CUET
The syllabus is an important factor for any student to crack any examination and come out with flying colours. Like all other exams, CUET too has got a certain syllabus to be followed in order to pass the entrance exam. Now that we have had a basic idea and cleared some doubts about the CUET, let us get to know about what is the syllabus needed for CUET.
On March 29, the chairman of the University Grant Commission, UGC, M Jagadesh Kumar, said that the syllabus of the upcoming Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022, will be completely based on the syllabus of Class 12.
A simple break-up of the syllabus is given below-
There will be 3 sections namely Section A which will be a language proficiency test where the students need to select and compulsorily appear for 1 language among the 13 offered languages. Section B will consist of domain-specific subjects and the students need to pick 6 subjects out of 27 offered subjects. This section will basically test the candidate’s aptitude. The third section namely Section C will consist of general awareness.
Also, the basic criteria for applying for CUET for the UG level is a minimum of 50% marks in class 12th (General Category) and a relaxation of 5% which is 45% for ST/SC students.
And for the PG level, a minimum of 55% (General Category) and 50% (ST/SC/OBC/Others) is required in the UG courses.
Most probably CUET UG 2022 is going to be held in June or July 2022 tentatively and the CUET PG Exams date to be announced shortly, therefore the aspirants must buckle up and start their preparation for the exam to have a good hold on the syllabus.
CUET EXAM PATTERN
We are now familiar with the syllabus of the exam. Now let us move toward the pattern of the exam. By pattern what we mean is how the overall system of the question is. Those are-
The question paper of CUET PG 2022 consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions.
Candidates will get 2 hours (120 minutes) to solve the CUET 2022 question paper.
The candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each right answer and 1 will be deducted for the wrong answer.
No marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered/blank questions.
The pattern for CUET UG is-
Section 1: Languages (40 Questions to be attempted out of 50 Questions)
Section 2: Domain-Specific (40 Questions to be attempted out of 50 Questions)
Section 3: General Test (60 Questions to be attempted out of 75 Questions)
As per the official CUET notification, for every correct attempt, 5 marks will be awarded. For every incorrect attempt, 1 mark will be deducted. There will be no penalty for unattempted questions.
CUET | Advantages
By now, we have had almost the idea about the common FAQs of the CUET. The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a praiseworthy decision in multiple
aspects. It has the potential to streamline admission processes by avoiding the overstressing of multiple entrance tests and thus reducing the financial burden.
Also most importantly, the burden and the stress on the back of the students of cutting through the cut-offs have been prevented by the introduction of CUET. Now they can fairly perform well in the entrance exam and move into their desired colleges, thus having mental satisfaction both in the minds of parents and students as well.
Education with proper guidance plays a vital role in shaping one’s career. That is why
We at SFS Narengi, Guwahati, one of the best and top schools in the North East, has very well realized the importance of preparing our students for CUET, and to fulfill the goal the school has already prepared separate curriculums to ensure a maximum of our students crack CUET. The students are made aware and taught about different and efficient study techniques that would help them to crack the CUET with less difficulty.
Our school is always ready to serve the best interest of the students and thereby they have been providing and conducting special classes training for students of class 11–12 to ensure they get admission to the best colleges in India portraying sheer academic excellence.
About SFS School, Guwahati
SFS Guwahati is one of the best Private CBSE School in Guwahati with Integrated Coaching, awarded with the “Certificate of Excellence” by Bharat Shiksha Puraskar and Ranked №24 across India for “Mental Health” Ranking 2021.

Study Abroad
The number of Indian students going to US and UK has surpassed the number of Chinese. Some experts believe that the reason for this could be because of COVID-19 among others. “When compared to pre-pandemic levels, the number of student visas granted to Chinese citizens in the first half of 2022 decreased by more than 50 per cent. Many aspiring Chinese students have had to reevaluate their plans to pursue higher education in the US and UK due to pandemic-related visa,”said Piyush Kumar, Regional Director (South Asia and Mauritius), IDP Education.

Delhi University top body gives nod to CUET for PG admissions
The executive council of Delhi University, which is the highest decision-making body, gave its approval to a number of reforms, including the adoption of CUET (Common University Entrance Test) for conducting postgraduate admissions and changes to the student-teacher ratio (classroom size) for lectures and tutorials for both undergraduate and PG courses
The executive council of Delhi University, which is the highest decision-making body, gave its approval to a number of reforms, including the adoption of CUET (Common University Entrance Test) for conducting postgraduate admissions and changes to the student-teacher ratio (classroom size) for lectures and tutorials for both undergraduate and PG courses.
The council also approved the syllabi for second semester undergraduate courses.
The coursework and syllabi for the second semester along with other proposals such as an increase in PhD submission fees were ratified by the executive council after it was passed by the academic council last month.
“The executive council also agreed that teachers will get 12 earned leaves per year to make up for the lost leaves during the 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic sessions due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said DU registrar Vikas Gupta.
EC members Seema Das and Rajpal Singh Pawar registered their dissent against the decision to conduct PG admissions through CUET and the hike in PhD submission fee. “A hike of around ₹2,500 for PhD students will be a heavy burden for most of them. We opposed the move and registered our dissent,” said Pawar.
Das also raised objections to the new classroom size proposed by the university. In November, Delhi University issued a notification outlining the size of undergraduate classrooms in its colleges as 60 students for lectures, 30 for tutorials and 25 for practicals.
“The change in classroom size will adversely impact classroom learning. Tutorials are required for small group teaching and give students the chance to discuss topics that they may not otherwise be able to in a regular class. A size of 30 students for a tutorial is a lot and defeats the purpose of a tutorial,” said Das.
Tumblr media
A number of issues pertaining to ad hoc teachers’ appointments and workload were raised during the ‘zero hour’ by executive council members. “We raised the issue of appointments on the basis of compassionate grounds. There were issues with the proposed workload for teachers. We suggested amendments and the matter will once again go to the academic council,” said VS Negi, executive council member.
