Timeline (1978 - 1986): Sue comes from a family of ranchers of mixed background. Through both her parents, she's told me she is of English, Dutch, Shoshone and Comanche ancestry. After a while, Mary had the idea to put Sue's high energy and need to please into something more productive (As well as something that would earn the family an extra income, ahem). Thus, she used her connections to land Sue a spot on "The Wolfe Pack," later renamed "Patsy's Playhouse" and "It's Patsy!", a children's variety show produced by the Timely Company. As the renaming of the show suggested, Sue didn't become the rising star of the "Wolfe Cubs," as they were called, but she did become close friends with the titular Patsy Walker. Sue took to child acting quite well, preferring to put on an act and be among the other Cubs, especially as things continued to deteriorate back at home.

Timeline (1986 - 1998): The Storm's marriage wouldn't survive the decade, even after the birth of Johnny. A visitation arrangement made around Franklin's new position as an on-site staffer for the Tomorrow Academy in New York led to Sue and her brother hopping across coasts every few months. Sue did not start out as an enrolled student in the program, but Franklin and the other staffers made accomodations for her after she displayed a remarkable aptitude in the curriculum, particularly in the fields of biology. Eventually, Sue's show would enter its "It's Patsy!" era, effectively dissolving its original variety show format and no longer holding the rest of the Cubs under contract. With that, Sue leapt at the chance to move to New York and become a full-time student.

Sue's time within the Academy wasn't long, barely getting a year in before Howard Stark's sudden death closed it down in 1991, but it was enough to affirm to Sue that becoming a doctor is what she wanted to do with her life. Unfortunately, that goal was upended when her father was convicted of perjury and her mother coerced her to return to acting to keep the family afloat. Begrudgingly, Sue paused on her college courses and reunited with her former Wolfe Cubs to star in the hit teen drama "Young Romance," where Sue played the bookish Nancy Thompson. For the next five years, Sue bit her lip, did all the public appearances her agents and mother asked of her, and carefully invested her money. By the end of her three-season contract, Sue passed off all her residuals to her mother, washing her hands of her control over her life, and moved back to the East Coast.

Timeline (1998 - 2002): Sue didn't have many friends while at ESU, working for her doctorate. All the other Wolfe Cubs—especially Patsy, once her solo career reached its peak—didn't keep in touch, and in spite of Sue's best efforts, Johnny took all the wrong lessons from the Southern California lifestyle. All of that was to say nothing of the small but persistent paparazzi, as well as all the people in her daily life who couldn't see past the character she played. That wasn't much of an obstacle for me, which is probably why Sue and I hit it off like we did.

Big shocker, I'm not that much into television, nor into tabloids. But even outside of my disability, I've always done by best to see the good in people, and as guarded as she was back then, Sue's character shone through even to me. It didn't hurt that, as a starving artist, I'll take whatever patronage I can get, and something about my sculptures really resonated with Sue. Despite how in-sync we were, it completely went over my head that around the same time, Sue became the apprentice of one of Phillip's colleagues. I would have warned Sue if I knew, but he must have made sure he and I would have never met in-person, nor could Sue ever casually relay things to me to tip him off.

Still, it really speaks to how smart Sue is that she not only was considered a worthy apprentice, but didn't fall for what this "mad thinker" was trying in the first place. Thankfully, Sue didn't budge on his covert AIM recruitment, opting to stay on school and complete her doctorate. The Thinker recommended Sue take up a consultancy job at a certain lab called Fantastic Solutions. This was probably yet another strategem, trying to get an inside person into Reed's own operation. In the end, I guess a whole lot of good came out of that one moment of deceit.

Sue knew Reed before, at the Tomorrow Academy. She had a schoolgirl crush, but she swears she didn't keep that crush going years later when they began working together. How she told it to me, what made her fall in love with Reed as adults was the utter sincerity by which he applied himself. After spending her whole life contending with fakers and manipulators, the transparency by which Reed sought to make the world better, even to the point of naiveté, was immensely endearing to Sue. She spent a great deal of time struggling with whether to make her feelings clear, whether it would be worth risking per professionalism with a fellow colleague.

Thanks to some encouragement from my own future beau, Sue threw caution to the wind, and to her relief Reed was very much receptive. The two kept steady for about a year after that, following which Johnny fell into some legal troubles. Without Sue even needing to ask, Reed readily volunteered to put Johnny up in the Baxter Building. She would tell me that that was the moment she knew she wanted to spend her life with this man.

Rescue Story: TCWR rescued six tigers from a closed-down Oklahoma facility in January of 2019. The owner was facing eviction and had reached out to Turpentine Creek to take over the care of his six tigers. The man claimed to have saved the tigers from being destroyed at three months of age after they could no longer be used to generate cub petting profits for their prior owner, who allegedly had ties to Joe Exotic. When the TCWR team arrived on site, all six, who ranged from 16 months to four years of age, were in a state of filth and extreme obesity.

It took nearly six hours to load up the six cats; Tommie, Frankie, Floyd, Tigger, Robbie, and Diesel. Diesel was the most lethargic at the time of rescue, and just a few days after getting the animals safely on the property, we unfortunately lost him. With a healthy diet, veterinary care, and cognitive enrichment, the other 5 cats quickly transformed into lively tigers.

This Makes A Long Drive Worth It - Kelowna & Lake Country, BC, CAN

We spent August 26th through the end of the month, enjoying the wonderful hospitality of our friends here in BC. After settling into our site at Holiday Park RV Resort on the 26th, we met up with Karen and Laurence for dinner and adult beverages at Turtle Bay Pub. (I forgot to take a picture, so you will just have to take my word that we had a great time.) Perfect start to our time in the area.

On the 27th, we started the day off with a bike ride with Ray and Cheri along the Okanagan Rail Trail. We had a nice cool day, saw lots of bear scat on the trail (luckily, no bears) on our ride up to Wood Lake. Ray ate enough chokecherries that we were a little worried that he might get sick!

After our ride, we met up with Karen and Laurence at Britannia Brewing. Awesome day!

The next day, August 28th, we played 9 holes of golf at Spallumcheen with Andy and Cheri. It was around $25 to walk 9 holes. The course is very lush, the greens were in good shape - we give the course a solid 8 stars out of 10. We had to skip a hole and a tee box due to bear activity on the course....a mama bear with twin cubs, one of the cubs wouldn't come down from the tree when mama left with the other cub. There was a lot of crying going on from the one stuck up in the tree and a very vigilant mama bear on the ground - didn't want to get between her and that cub!

It was awesome to see Andy again and to meet his new partner, Heather, later that evening. Thanks for hosting us, we look forward to seeing you in Tucson this fall.

After golf, we went to the country fair in Armstrong. It was quite the Canadian small-town experience. Goats, cows, pigs, lumberjack shows, and too many other exhibits to even mention, We had a fun time taking it all in:

On the 29th, we went for a lovely hike in Scenic Canyon Regional Park with Ray, Cheri, and Karen. Beautiful area, lots of shade and cool things to see.

Great day in Scenic Canyon Regional Park - we were told that there was a mama bear with cubs on one of the trails in the park, but we didn't run into any wild animals on our hike!

On the 30th, we moved from Holiday Park to Ray and Cheri's driveway for the remainder of our stay in Kelowna.

After our move, we went and played a little golf with Cheri at a unique little 9-hole golf course in an apple orchard, Orchard Greens. It cost $29 to walk 9 holes - the fairway and greens were pretty rough, lots of trees (hey, it was in an apple orchard!) and narrow fairways. We would give this course 4 stars out of 10, but we think you should go play it, if you are visiting Kelowna. You can play night golf on the course, which would be a fun/unique experience!

The next day, August 31st, we drove to Kaleden, BC and played St. Andrews By The Lake with Laurence and Cheri. This pretty and challenging course cost us $30 to walk 9 holes. The layout was fun, making for some uniquely challenging holes - one par 3 was a huge carry over the water - not reachable for 3 of us! We gave this course 6 stars out of 10, we liked the layout on some of the holes, but not so much on some of the other holes. The location was awesome and we can now say that we played at "St. Andrews"! We ended the day with dinner with the gang at Al and Cindi's place - good times! Thank you guys for hosting a fun evening at your beautiful place (photo at the beginning of this post).

BUUUUUUT I took priority over it from the US ones that were going to be DP later this week. I could have finished it earlier, sure... but since I started reading it after my burn out of those that were ALSO being DP in the LatAm site in May (and while I didn't read 37 series... South Korea to conduct launch of its first commercial-grade satellite

SEOUL: South Korea plans to conduct its first launch of a commercial-grade satellite aboard a domestically built rocket next month as part of its space development program, officials said Tuesday.

South Korea's officials say its homegrown Nuri space launch vehicle has no military purposes. But some experts say the development of such rockets would eventually help the country acquire technologies needed to build bigger missiles and launch reconnaissance satellites amid animosities with rival North Korea.

In June last year, South Korea conducted its first satellite launch using the Nuri rocket. That launch involved what South Korean officials called a “performance verification” satellite mainly designed to examine the capacity of the rocket while next month’s event is meant to put a commercial-grade satellite into orbit for the first time.

The Science Ministry said the rocket will blast off from the country’s space launch center on a southern island on May 24. A ministry statement said it had set a backup launch date from May 25-31, in case of possible schedule changes due to weather.

The rocket will carry one main satellite called “Next Generation Small Satellite 2” and seven other smaller cub-shaped satellites. The main satellite is tasked with verifying imaging radar technology and observing cosmic radiation in near-Earth orbit, the statement said.

Authorities have completed the assembly of the rocket’s first and second stages and are conducting final environmental tests of the eight satellites that are to be placed on the rocket’s third stage.

Last year’s launch was the Nuri rocket’s second liftoff. In its first launch in 2021, the rocket’s dummy payload reached the desired altitude but failed to enter orbit. After next month’s launch, South Korea plans three more Nuri rocket launches, officials said.

“The third launch of Nuri is of great significance as it is the first attempt to launch a commercial-grade satellite and the first time a private company will jointly manufacture the homegrown Nuri rocket,” Oh Tae-seok, the first vice science minister, was quoted as saying in the ministry statement.

South Korea, the world’s 10th largest economy, is a major producer of semiconductors, automobiles and smartphones. But its space development program lags behind that of its neighbors China, India and Japan. Since the early 1990s, South Korea has sent a series of satellites into space, but all of them involved foreign rocket technology or launch sites.

North Korea placed Earth observation satellites into orbit in 2012 and 2016, but there is no proof that either satellite has been functioning. North Korea was slapped with international sanctions because of the two launches because the U.N. views them as disguised tests of the North’s banned long-range missile technology.

Huggy lives in a state-of-the-art, all-natural black bear habitat with some other bears. Since black bears are native to Arkansas, the concept was to completely fence in a large acreage area of forest so that the bears could behave like wild bears!

They are still fed, have their pools cleaned, and are looked after by Animal Care Staff, however, they can be found climbing trees, foraging for their own food, building dens, and doing other natural bear behaviors.
