Crystal Burset from Orange is the New Black! She says so when her wife (Sophia Burset, played by Laverne Cox) transitions and it’s very sad actually.
Very funny phenomenon is when someone says semi-jokingly that there are almost no confirmed straight characters (as in, it's rare for a character to explicitly say they're heterosexual) and ppl who don't get what they mean will just start naming essentially random fictional characters. Many of whom are clearly gay.
#but yeah that’s all I got#also it crashed tumblr while I was looking up her name and I lost my place on my dash#so please reblog this I suffered to bring you this critical update#my addition

I also think the fandom is too damn harsh on Crystal.
I love Sophia, don’t get me wrong. And the cost to transition, is insane. Not to mention, most insurances won’t cover the procedure. So, I get it. She did what she felt she had to do.
However, that also affected Crystal. She had to pay off the debt and then became a single mom to their son, while Sophia went to jail. She’s had to deal with the drama of Sophia’s actions, the judgement, etc. She’s had to deal with an out of control son. She didn’t have to stay married to Sophia when she went to jail or when she met someone else, but she did so that way she could be her advocate and take care of her.
So, yeah. She can sometimes be short with Sophia. It doesn’t mean she’s not supportive. She knocked on Joe Caputo’s door every damn day to get Sophia out of SHU. She tried to sue the prison for what they did to her.
Crystal’s a damn good woman. Just because she calls out our favorite character from time to time, doesn’t change that.

so today's the day we release our first preview - member groups! on los ageless, our member groups are based on old hollywood films. we don't expect every character to perfectly fit into the member group and in fact yours might have characteristics of several groups. just choose the group that most meets their personality and aesthetic. we put some handy character parallels to help you make the choice and if you're still torn, feel free to contact a member of staff to help you decide! we recommend you view the groups on the blog itself instead of the dashboard since tumblr's coding isn't playing nicely with us and won't seem to show everything. ♡

OITNB Headcanons part 2
Cindy Hayes:
It didn’t take long for Cindy to figure out it was Taystee who sent that letter to Monica. Taystee is the only one who has beef with Cindy, and she was the warden’s assistant, which means she had access to her file. She was mad at first, but then she figured she deserved that, so they’re even now.
Taystee’s lawyer finally tracked Cindy down and got her to recant her statement. Cindy also remembered the names of two of the stormtroopers CERT team members who were down in the pool.
Cindy’s family was a little disappointed, but not surprised that she converted to Judaism. Lillian felt like she failed Cindy somehow. That’s why she rebelled.
Cindy made an effort to show up for Monica- attending her debate competitions, awards ceremonies, her middle school graduation...
Cindy ran into Curtis at a coffee shop. They talked and Cindy admitted she had his baby. Curtis was shocked, then angry at Cindy for keeping this from him. He and Monica finally met and hit it off right away.
Cindy and Curtis fell in love and got married. Lillian reluctantly gave the two of them custody of Monica, who was happy to have two parents again and a grandma.
It took a while for Monica to start calling Cindy “Mom”. Cindy was delighted and touched when she finally did.
Everyone eventually found out the truth, that Cindy is really Monica’s mother. Kids at school started calling Monica “Black Andi Mack” much to Monica’s annoyance.
Cindy’s lawyer offered Cindy immunity for perjury in exchange for testifying against both Hermann and Natoli. Natoli cried as he was carted off to jail, and Hermann swore revenge.
In 2019 when they finally launched orange coke, Cindy was so elated, she ran to the nearest store and bought two boxes of them.
She marathoned the Star Wars sequel trilogy and was excited that there was finally a black main character. In 2019 when the photo of Finn and Jannah were released (for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), she cheered.
Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson:
Once she was finally cleared of the murder charge and released from prison, she moved in with Tamika.
She was still involved with the Poussey Washington Fund and even got her own small office in New York City.
Poussey’s dad found out about the PWF and donated a large sum of money to the fund.
She eventually fell in love and got married and named her first born daughter Poussey. She named her second daughter Tiffany, after Pennsatucky.
She eventually forgave Cindy for testifying against her. They kept in touch with each other and with Suzanne and Janae.
Suzanne Warren
Suzanne found out that Kukudio died from an infection from the beating she gave her. She was in shock for days. Then she started wondering if Poussey’s death was her fault, too, since she freaked out and started attacking Bailey, who was on top of Poussey. Then she wondered if Dylan was really hurt or if she killed him. Taystee reassured her that she was mentally ill, so she really can’t be held accountable. Somehow, that didn’t make her feel any better.
After her release from prison, she checked herself in to a mental health facility. She was able to get the help she needed.
Sophia Burset
Her salon was a huge success.
Michael kept acting out and Sophia and Crystal made him go to therapy
She tracked down Sister Ingalls and helped take care of her.

My top 5 overall were probably roughly
Elizabeth Jennings
Stoic but with a beating heart, vicious, competent as shit, loving in her own manner, deeply gray and amoral, Complicated “Emotionless” Bitch™️ in a way women on TV aren’t often allowed. And hot as shit.
Lena Greco and Lila Cerullo
Let me tell you, if you want some complicated fucking female friendships (slash borderline more if you squint), these two, from Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan quartet, are Good Shit. Two girls growing up in a whirlwind of poverty, misogyny, unequal educational opportunities, and crime in Naples, from the 1950s to the present day: the ways in which society fucks them over, they fuck themselves over, they fuck each other over (intentionally and unintentionally), they scheme to make their positions better, they love each other, and they hate each other are breath-taking, and the world they inhabit is insanely rich and atmospheric and wonderful. Probably the best books I read this year.
Abigail Griffin
Tenacious, hopeful, loving, gritty at times, competent as hell, a leader amongst all men and women. A Mother Character™️ who’s allowed to be a lot more, and 10/10 would bang, to boot.
Elise Wassermann
Competent, bad at reading and interacting with most people but good-hearted and in search of justice nonetheless, awkward and endearing without being made overly precious or having her competencies and intelligence downplayed.
Siobhan Sadler
Competent, another Mother Character™️ allowed to be more, scary at times and loving, violent and scheme-y at times, can be amoral, but gorgeously so.
(I...might have an Older Woman Competence Kink, love Italian fuckery/stories about girls fighting for education, and love awkward smart women...)
Anyway, here’s to more excellent women in media in 2017, may I find and love you.

Tanya Wright (Crystal Burset) Reflects on Working with Laverne Cox and Her Journey to Greater Understanding
Tanya Wright has never portrayed a character like Crystal Burset ever before. When she first learned about the role, she was just excited that she would have the opportunity to play such a unique character on a television show, and she also remembers hoping that people would watch the show.
She certainly got her wish. As it turns out, Wright learned a whole lot about herself and life from…

I don’t think that Crystal and Sophia would’ve worked out, even if she hadn’t gone to prison. She would never be able to truly stay married to a woman with a vagina.

I don't think we'll see Sophia at all next season--I think her release was meant to serve as her exit? Unless Laverne has said differently, Sophia was released and signed that agreement that said she wouldn't testify against MCC and it seems like Laverne is busier than ever. The only person she really knows/cares about who's still in prison is Gloria, and even that's iffy? It's too bad because I'd love to see Sophia and the nun reunite (literally THE most underrated friendship on OITNB).
I think that next season will split between showing the inmates in Max along with showing those that got out. That includes Piper writing her novel and adjusting, Blanca possibly about to be deported and if Laverne comes back, I can see them tackling Sophia’s life on the outside. I didn’t think she’d testify against MCC, but she does have a story left to tell.
She used to be a firefighter, but I doubt she’ll be able to return to the profession. She is a trans woman of color and an ex-con. This money may do wonders for her life, but she’ll still have challenges. And like I said, I think it’ll tackle her impending divorce. All this time, I think that Crystal stayed married to her so she can be advocate and handle things for Sophia when she couldn’t. But now Sophia is released and Crystal has been dating the pastor. The look on her face also showed she felt conflicted about all of this. Plus, there’s Michael. His relationship with Sophia has been strained…they need to work it out.
Yeah, Sophia’s story is not over yet. Even if it’s just an episode, if Laverne has time, we’ll see Sophia again.
