Looking back on April Fools 2017
The day of fools is over now, and... surprisingly there were a lot of good jokes this year. DeviantART decided to resurrect an old meme from the dead with the "LOLwut" pear, which is actually a DA native meme even in comparison to when they did Trollface years back, which is also a meme of DA origin (though most think Trollface came from 4chan, it's actually from DeviantART, 4chan simply made it popular), and people would get badges for doing art related to the pear, myself included. I think this is a MUCH better joke than what we had the past two years, especially last year's practically non-existent joke, which was an advertisement for an art pen that didn't exist. Tumblr, in the meantime, had a little virtual pet in which you were given a horse with a randomized name like "Dowager Queen of Kalliopolis" or "Mumbe" and you had to play it like a Tamagotchi, though it constantly left droppings and you had to clean them up or else the horse wouldn't live. It was rather clever, though a lot of people didn't seem to notice it, and personally I don't think it was elaborate as the lizard election from 2016, or the business planner from 2015, but still better than DA's joke last year. Minecraft, sadly, didn't really have an April Fools joke, but the owners of Minecraft came up with a commercial for a Game-And-Watch type port of Minecraft. Bulbagarden Forums did a Team Skull takeover this year. One of my favorites was from James Rolfe in which we have a "Lost episode" of a TV show involving cryptids, and Phelous remade the movie "Cabin Fever" with Dingo Pictures characters. The best one, though, was that of Adult Swim, which rather than pranking people or coming up with some weird joke like others do, they decided to give viewers a gift in the form of the premiere of Rick and Morty Season 3... without warning, on repeat until Midnight that night. Totally worth it since AS was very stingy on news for Rick and Morty Season 3, so... they surprised us, and did good with it. Compare this to what the daytime portion of CN had, which was... putting googly eyes on characters for no apparent reason. LAME! At least Adult Swim actually CARES about it's viewers and programming, unlike CN which would rather shove Teen Titans Go down everyone's throat's. Although this did receive some flack from those who wanted to watch Samurai Jack and Dragon Ball Super (like me), though at least I'm a Rick and Morty fan so I accepted the gift while it lasted. Hope next year has some good jokes as well.
