you right he’s a VIP (very important progger). here are the Top 5 Things you may not know about crazy proggy guitar legend Allan Holdsworth

1. allan formed a “band” with cryptid legend Jamie Muir

sunship was a very short-lived “band” that apparently only held a few rehearsals together because they wouldn’t stop goofing off (jamie’s words, not mine). there are no pics or recorded material from them. allan also completely forgot the band even existed at one point

2. allan’s been in like�� 20 bands

(here’s allan with Gong. he’s the one sitting very awkwardly on the fence with his knees jabbing that random dude.)

let’s try to name them all! ‘igginbottom, nucleus, sunship, tempest, soft machine, the new tony williams lifetime, pierre moerlen’s gong, u.k., bruford, false alarm/i.o.u./the many bands he had for his “solo” albums, level 42, gongzilla, soft works, k^2, planet x……………… probably more i glossed over. he also had a solo career while all of this was going on. why did he do this? idk but he did get sick of a lot of the bands he was in lmao. like gong. and also…. u.k….

3. allan really hated being in u.k. (the band)

the only reason allan was in u.k. is cause bill bruford played with allan previously and broof loved him, so broof probably brought him along. allan is more of a jazzy improv guy so he thought the music was boring. while playing on stage all he’d think about was beer

4. he’s got some big ass hands

what the fuck is this i hate this. also he did a lot of shit like this which is why eddie van halen loves him so much

5. he made a video which hurts my head every time i see it

the average human knows quite a lot about guitars. however this data is skewed because it doesn’t count allan holdsworth as an outlier. he has infinite guitar knowledge. if you ever have the misfortune of watching an allan holdsworth guitar tutorial video you’ll hear him say “let’s start with something real simple” and then you’ll see nightmarish things such as these:

thats how he views the guitar. IN HIS MIND. also he literally figured all this shit on his own cause that’s how godly he is. because of this, after finishing the video most guitarists end up knowing less than before.
