When Willie was transferred to a new base, he wasn't upset. Hell, he was relieved. He would have taken a job cleaning toilets with his toothbrush if it meant getting away from the pitying glances of Dante and Fuego and all the other pilots, from the awkward silences when he walked into a room, from Caleb pushing and pushing and pushing him to find a new partner, someone new to pilot with, why aren't you trying, William?

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't find anyone who he was remotely drift-compatible with. Eventually, Caleb got sick of it, calling him a waste, and sent him off to another bass.

He did odd jobs at first. Nobody really knew what to do with him. A pilot without a partner, an empty Jaeger sitting in the hull... He spent a lot of time with her, slowly fixing the dents, polishing the hull. Sometimes he went into the cockpit just to scream.

The two mechanics, Reggie and Flynn, they let him be, offering help when they thought he needed it, backing off when he said no, but putting their all into it whenever he said yes.

There were no awkward silences with Flynn and Reggie. Even on days when he didn't feel like talking, their conversation flowed over him like waves, like rain.

They introduced him to a lot of people on bass. They showed him where Victoria hid the Good Snacks. They were the ones who suggested he go to one of the try-outs, just to see, no pressure.

He was a little surprised to see Alex there. He hadn't known Alex had trained to be a pilot. Honestly, he hadn't really asked what Alex really did. Reggie and Flynn knew a lot of different kinds of people, and Willie had been too busy flirting to ask.

They're both nervous when they step on the mat, but once they get started... it's like dancing. They move together so fluently that it's like they've been practicing all their life, like they've done this before, and when they stumble and stop - Willie stumbles, Willie stumbles because he looks into Alex' eyes and realises two things.

One: he's in love.

And two: they're drift compatible.

at the halloween store i saw a very huge devil decoration that lunged forward and upwards in a way that scared the shit out of me. i triggered it twice because it was so scary and huge and made me scramble backwards like a little ant even though i knew what would happen

I keep seeing other Aros say things like "Having a crush sounds like an anxiety attack" and while I get the misunderstanding I need y'all to realize that it's literally just the vagueness of the wording that's making you think this.

Crushes often get described as causing a "racing heart" you know what also is described that way? someone being excited. Someone being overjoyed. and yes, someone feeling anxious.

And the thing is, it's not wrong to assume anxiety because yes - Crushes can cause a bit of anxiety but the reason for the anxiety is different. Someone may be anxious around a crush because they want their crush to like them and don't want to embarrass themselves. It's just the generic anxiety of wanting to be likable to people but instead just being geared towards a specific person.

There's also the fact that a crush, like anxiety, does trigger adrenaline. but so do many things, such as going on a roller coaster. People enjoy roller coasters just fine because of the adrenaline rush and everyone agrees that going on roller coasters aren't anxiety attacks.

Basically what I'm trying to get at here is "this sounds like an anxiety attack" shows a misunderstanding of symptoms and in some cases is willfully ignorant as it shows that you don't wish to learn beyond your own understanding. And this misunderstanding is due to how vague the wording used to describe crushes usually is. It's using words and symptoms that depending on the context can mean different things.

TL;DR Crushes are no more like "anxiety attacks" then getting an adrenaline rush on a roller coaster. It's okay to not understand something but maybe don't call what you don't understand an "anxiety attack"

Tomorrow marks mine and Adachi's One Year Anniversary.

Things happened during 2022, really hard things, I didn't think I would be around to see the new year but here we are. He's helped me get through so much. I pushed through a lot just to see our year together through and I'm glad I did. I love Adachi so much!

He means so much to me. I think this is the first time I've kept up with anniversary dates? And his birthday, though it would be hard to forget since we share a birthday. Even if I don't have anything planned for tomorrow, it'll still be a special day. Maybe I'll get to work on my plushie of him :3

its hard to think that there was at least a week of my life where I balanced marching band, my rock band program, writing, drawing, and theater on top of high school. I talked to people, both friends and unfamiliar with no issue. And i never thought anything of it.

5 years later and I can barely function doing even 3 of those things. i miss being an artist.
