“... right.” 

   well, that’s a lie if you’ve ever heard one. it’s evident in the way karina’s shoulders are slumped and she can’t quite make eye contact, gaze darting around her ( far too cramped, far too stuffy ) study. there’s books, paperwork, written requests for leave and weapon refines and who knows what else strewn all over her desk, even taking up chairs. you raise an eye ridge as you take it all in. seems the poor summoner’s fallen behind on desk work while bouncing from crisis to crisis.

   has... no one offered to help out? you get everyone’s got their own role to play in this weird... mercenary guild? thing? you were summoned into, but leaving one person to manage this much paperwork on their own just feels cruel. you’re reminded of the mountains of paper in the restoration’s main office after both the war and the metal virus incident, and how no amount of hard work on amy’s part seemed to make them go away until jewel took the reins. your heart twinges painfully at the thought, and you decide that this can’t stand.

   karina needs a break. now. she’s not in the right head space to deal with all this and while you’d love to give that alfonse guy an earful about treating people under his employ fairly, it can wait. lifting your friend’s spirits comes first. 

“well,” you say with a shrug and a smile as an idea crosses your mind, “in that case, you wouldn’t object to a little joyride, now, would you?”

   before the woman can protest, you pick her up in a princess carry, tell her to hold on tight, and you’re off. you can hear the mess of papers scattering in the wind and make a mental note to help clean up the mess later, once karina is smiling and relaxed and looks like she won’t burst into tears at the mere sight of paper. in the blink of an eye you’re out of the castle and sprawling the rolling green hills of the kingdom of askr, darting through forests, villages, and valleys until you come across a spot from one of your recent runs. a sea of delicate, lovely white flowers stretches out as far as the eye can see, and you set karina down once you spot a patch of green among the petals.

“man, what a view! since nothing’s wrong n’ all, you wouldn’t say no to enjoying it for a while, right?”

   whether karina confides in you or not is up to her, but the offer is there, unspoken.
