🌌 MILKY WAY - what was the inspiration behind your oc? what was the first thing you decided about them?

Josiah: My inspiration for Josiah was my ideal type at the time, mostly basing it on otome and anime characters that I'm usually drawn to. Blond and Black hair, green eyes, and a gentle and soft disposition. Cottage-core aesthetic with androgenous features - long hair, long eyelashes, soft facial features. Josiah's story is always evolving, so inspiration comes and goes randomly.

Orion: I chose to base him off Orion from the otome game, Amnesia. Orion was a cute, little spirit that would guide the MC through different routes and experiences. Essentially being her only trusted friend. I didn't want to fully copy him, so I thought of things that I liked and put a twist to it. Orion is an "alien" from the planet Katentea, in the constellation of Bellatrix. His real name is Atlas. Again, for his physical appearance, I just chose what I liked on anime characters - white and black hair, red and purple eyes. The gemstones on his head was a spur-of-the-moment decision.

Sage: I don't even remember how I found inspiration for him. Maybe I just wanted a circus-type character after watching/reading Black Butler. A British, dark academia aesthetic was something I really liked back then.

Hikage & Alani: I remember seeing a Crobidoll Zion with white hair (sort of like a wolf-cut style), and instantly thought of a Prince. Since I loved both Crobidoll Zion and Zia, I figured I could just make them twins, and make them royalty. I remember being intimidated at first because there's a lot that goes into royalty aesthetics and politics. For Alani's character, I wanted someone who would make a prefect queen. Someone girly, bubbly, and outgoing. Yet someone who was strong-willed, stubborn, and decisive. For Hikage, I wanted the opposite. I love twins who look the same, yet feel like two complete strangers. Someone who was introverted, yet strong, brave and confident. Someone who could blend into the shadows and collect intel to his sister. I also love siblings who get along well, especially when the brother is the protector, whether or not the sister needs the protection. He'll always be on his sister's team. Later on, I wanted to incorporate ninja somewhere in my story, and I thought the easiest would be for Hikage. As time went on, Alani's side was pretty straight forward with her girly and queenly aesthetics, but Hikage's character became darker and darker. I originally wanted him to be this, happy-go-lucky character with great humor and loved teasing his sister. Now he's all serious about work lol.

Constance: His character was just based off brainstorming. I want to make a ton of more characters, and on the list was a fairy or pixie. And I chose that for him. I also wanted to make a poor character and an orphan, so I put those on him too. I guess I thought I was being too light and bright on my other OC's.

So I ordered a Crobidoll Zion in February, and he arrived today (29 April)! HE IS SO CUTE 💖💖. I made up a t-shirt for him pretty quickly as the one I had on hand didn’t look right for him at all.

Now I have to redo Risa’s faceup to look more like him too...and get him his own pair of jointed hands and a laptop and better eyes and a million other things...

That’s because he’s a friend’s RP character who gets cute boyfriends in TWO universes. Lucky bastard.

3. What do you do when you get hooked on a particular sculpt and want it home right here, right now but can’t as you have to save or some other reason?

I…deal with it, I guess. Luts Kid Delf Corni and Crobidoll Zion are two dolls I have wanted from the moment I saw them 2 years or so back, and the reason I can’t get them is because they’re not limited dolls, so they don’t get prioritised. Most of my current dolls are limited in some way, and if I’d bought a non-limited doll I can buy any time, I wouldn’t have been able to afford one of the limited ones at the right time. It’s very frustrating, but that’s just what this hobby is like. Originally I was planning to buy Corni for my birthday last year, and then this year, but Apollo/Bri/Renee threw a spanner in that. At the moment I’m thinking maybe next year, but that’s gonna be tricky too if both 9S and Luka are coming out, plus I’ll likely be apartment hunting again and can’t just spend all the time. Zion was also going to be my 30th birthday present for myself, but now that’s next year, so it’s not likely. But I’ll have them one day. I’m really glad neither of them are limited. (If they ever do become limited for whatever reason, like Crobi/Luts announce they’re discontinuing them, I’d snap them up immediately though)

17. In the past year have you had to find homes for some of your resin buddies?  

I haven’t sold any resins (I only have 3 anyway) and currently can’t imagine it. I also can’t imagine selling any of my DDs. The only doll I’ve sold is my smartdoll Eiji - he just wasn’t really working out for what I wanted (Kaito), and when I first bought him he was the only male vinyl option around (besides a DD/obitsu hybrid, which in all honesty, I probably should have gone for, but I’m not a huge fan of how the obitsu body looks). Now there’s other options, and there’s also the fact that with all these male DDs coming out, there’s the sudden and very real possibility that an official Kaito DD may actually happen. I’m happy to wait a few years though) It was also to get money to put towards Renee’s release. Eiji was kinda fun when he was my only big doll and I had nothing to compare him to, but after I got into DDs I realized smartdoll just wasn’t for me. (the difference in proportion was also bugging me a lot because it made them look like they were from separate universes, when Kaito should be the same universe as the other vocaloids.) His new owner seems really happy with him so he went to a good home at least.

42. What are the longest time you’ve had a layaway running? If you’ve never done one, why are you refraining from making use of this service?

I haven’t done a layaway before because I’ve never needed to. Volks don’t do layaways anyway, and my only non-Volks ‘bjds’ (if we’re counting DDs as BJDs) are Apollo and Felix. Since I only had to buy Felix’s body (as his head was a raffle prize), and the body wasn’t going anywhere, I didn’t see the point in using a layaway and just saved up for it. Apollo I would have used a layaway for under normal circumstances, but I’d put a whole load of money aside for Dolpa that year (I wildly overestimaed how much I’d spend, which was good - not to imply there was nothing worth buying though, I did buy a lot of stuff, it just wasnt that pricey) and then didn’t end up spending most of it, so I just used it to pay for him. (I found out about the teenie gem event literally the day after Dolpa, so that was handy) At the time I think I was also reluctant to use a layaway because I assumed it would mean that i wouldn’t get him for much longer than people who paid upfront. What actually happened was that people who paid via lawayay actually started getting their teenie gems -before- me, even though I paid in full upfront, so that was annoying lol. It didn’t occur to me that they have to make all the event dolls as a batch, so they’d still be sent out at roughly the same time as long as the payment was completed. Next time there is an event doll I want I will probably use layaway.It would be nice if Volks offered it but I understand why they don’t - they have enough people flaking on lotteries and preorders as it is.
