Gods become mortals. And their followers? Well, they become what’s basically a fan club. And what does that make the gods? Why, Exandria’s first influencers, of course.

i’ve been loving watching critical role recently if for no other reason than because i get to watch a decent portion of viewers actively falling for cult tactics lmao
a forbes article describes cult tactics as when cult leaders “censor dissenting viewpoints, promote a distorted narrative and use relentless repetition and peer pressure”
ludinus needing to monologue at everyone he meets. cherry picking what information to let people know (ie the orb). showing popular world leaders (gods?) at their absolute worst as a means to win over the vulnerable. creating dissent between cult prospects and the people who they’re close to outside the cult. doesn’t take no for an answer. repeating his points over and over, in whatever context he thinks will be most persuasive. targeting people who’ve lost everything. convincing people that they’re special
matt is a genius.

I don’t think this is the general mood but is anyone else excited for Matt and CR to explore stories and worlds beyond Exandria? Obviously I’ve greatly enjoyed that world and the stories they told there but I’m always excited for new things.
I think there’s often a trend in fandoms of wanting any new content to be “the same, but more” so I’d like to instead express how excited I am to explore new and different. I want to be surprised! I’d love to fall in love with something completely surprising.

One thing I find very funny about the entire resurrection situation is that it is not clear to me why Caleb's Raise Dead alone didn't work. It is even less clear to me how the fuck Essek, a wizard whose double major specializations do not involve any potential for healing whatsoever, made a difference in that matter, except within the premise that the only force in Exandria that was capable of resurrection in that moment was dunamis. It's not even clear that he is using some potion he pulled from somewhere, or if he's literally just funneling raw dunamis out of thin air, which is how the description ultimately sounds.
This is yet another tally mark in the box of "Evidence that Essek Thelyss is the Luxon's Specialest Guy".

Taliesin's neat swimsuit here is from Beefcake Swimwear of Portland, Oregon. They're based on androgenous 1920s bathing costumes, and were designed by a lesbian to be affirming to gender-nonconforming friends. They're also size inclusive from XS to 5XL with the full range of models.
Tumblr media
ID: Taliesin Jaffe sitting with his hands in his lap looking looking off to the side. He's sitting ion the bench of a dunk tank surrounded by a cage with a large rope woven between the bars. He's wearing a teal and purple scarf tired around his head, several necklaces, and a one-piece swim suit with a sleeveless black and white horizontal stripe top and black shorts. End ID.
They're a bit pricey at $99, but it's because they aim for ethical labor at all stages of production and durable more sustainable materials. They have a pretty low markup (she's been very transparent about how they're made and costs). Slow fashion horrified by industry norms.
I just think they're a very interesting company. I bought one of their swimsuits early in my trans journey & it definitely unlocked gender euphoria. I like seeing how companies run when they're founded on the principal that industry norms are terrible & they can do better.
(In addition to recognizing the distinctive design on sight, I also know it's not a knockoff because the CR guys filmed an All Work No Play episode in a hot tub before the pandemic, bought these to comply with Twitch/YouTube rules, and mentioned the company by name.)

The funniest thing about this Let’s Play so far is that everyone’s deck has betrayed them—except Liam, who has no idea what he’s doing, is dressed as Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park, and keeps playing dinosaurs.
