SPICE WORLD AU.
On paper, the idea sounded like a PR coup. Bringing together four guys from different backgrounds and engineering a supergroup ready to take the charts by storm. The reality, however, was far more messy. Secret relationships between band members, crazed fans, rivalries and, for Jack, the prospect of having his own father manage the band combine to form a hot mess of a band, but one that rapidly becomes something of a natural phenomenon.
This verse is primarily written with crimeblogger / valorsworn, piraticalwit & twistedwit however I am very much open to writing with others!

The Murder of Linda Ann Smith
Linda Ann Smith was a 12-year-old schoolgirl from Essex, UK. She was the oldest of six children and was known as, ‘Little Miss Friendly,’ to her neighbours.
On 16th January 1961, Linda was last seen wearing her school uniform and walking to her local newsagents to buy her great-grandmother a newspaper, she ran this errand most days and it took her around 15 minutes. She was seen looking inside the newsagents at around 5.10pm but not going inside and then crossing the road. Although the street was busy, Linda was not seen again and seemingly vanished. When Linda did not return home, the police were called and hundreds of people helped with the search.
Linda’s body was found four days later in a field 29km away. She had been strangled with her school scarf and the body had been covered with her coat. Linda’s coat still contained the money she had been going to use to buy the paper. A red substance believed to be paint, and traces of flour were found on the body. One of Linda’s shoes was missing and has never been found. A reindeer mint was also found near her body, this candy was sold at a local convenience store close to where Linda went missing. Tyre tracks were also in the field leading away to the road.
Despite widespread media interest in the case, no arrests were made and the person who murdered Linda remains uncaught. Suffolk police have stated the case is actively by cold case teams although admit the chances of bringing Linda’s killer to justice after all this time are ‘extremely remote.’

“ no, sod that. you don’t get to say it’s my fault for staying. ”
‟ Then it’s my fault for not pushing you away. For not putting an end to it. Is that what you’d rather hear? ” Where he couldn’t offer a defence for his own actions, Jack could most certainly offer venom, raising his voice to almost match the very reasonable, if heated, accusation being levelled at him from across the room.
There was no question about it: he shouldn’t have left John in the lurch. To just up and vanish from London without so much as a word – on a genuine errand, to track down one of Beckett’s allies from outside of the city, but one that had simultaneously functioned as an excuse to put some distance between the two of them – wasn’t his finest moment, but what else could he have done? The prospect of danger didn’t frighten John Watson; on the contrary, Jack had noticed that the nature of his lifestyle seemed to only attract, not repel him. And if that was the case, then confronting the ex army doctor about trying to keep him safe from manipulative, lordly bastards surely would have gone down as well as this current conversation.
He’d want to be in the bloody thick of it – quite literally. And, in this particular case, with this particular opponent, that thought scared Jack half to death.
As his gaze remained fixed, intense on the other man, Jack swallowed down a few more venomous remarks lingering on the tip of his tongue. He’d regret them all later, when his quick tongue was no longer clashing with John’s quick temper, and he once again sat down to think about just how much he enjoyed the other man’s company, just how understood he felt even without a single word exchanged between them. And now he’d gone and fucked it all up, as per usual. ‟ I wasn’t supposed to get attached, John. To anyone. Not until I’d dealt with Beckett. ”
He made a vague, waving motion at John, his voice both flippant and yet oddly resigned. ‟ But here you are. ”

𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 . he’slearned to ignore them , learned to push them far out of his mind’s reach . now , therewere a few he did keep in mind . john’s , for example . but , his own ? absolutely not . sherlock holmes despised hisbirthday . he hardly liked to think of the factthat he was getting older & older , because that was hardly befitting of a man like him . not that it reallymattered , considering he still felt like he wastwenty . certainly looked it . but , he really hadn’t celebrated a birthdaysince … since redbeard . since victor . it had been better , in a way , to ignore the day that januarysixth fell on every year , & with his flatmate unknowing , it’d been easy . but , now that john knew , it seemed he couldn’t escape it . “ oh , shutup , john . i’m not the one who looks like an old man . i think you’re shrinking a quarter of ameter every day . ” he’s only teasing , of course , but when a comment like that hadrolled out of john’s mouth , the opportunity had arose . they lay in bed together , after a deliciously goodwakeup ( and entertainedfalse hope that john had forgotten what day it was ) & an equally as delicious breakfast ( which had practically beenforcefed ) . part of him wishes to laze here forever , nothing but himself & the sheets & john , but on such a day as this ? he already knows that john won’t allow it .

"Don't know, there's just... I could swear there was something about today." Dragging this out for all it was worth, every single year since he found out? Definitely. "Hang on. That's right. It's your birthday, isn't it? Fancy that. Actually... Yeah, think I can spot a gray hair, just there, by your temple. That's not very good, is it?"
“ Yes, yes, brilliant, you may as well get it all out now. ”
Damn that woman and her inconveniently timed texts. He would have easily and quite happily kept this fact from John for as long as possible, but no. For his sins, he’s been awarded no such luxury, and is instead treated to a yearly rendition of this.
“ Are you quite finished? Most people just say Happy Birthday and are done with it. ” // @crimeblogger

[ @crimeblogger hit the ♥ for a starter ]
Fingertips settle on John’s laptop, folding it closed slowly -- until only the streetlights outside light the kitchen within. With John trapped between his arms, Francis leans in for a kiss, murmuring against lips: “ It’s two o’clock in the morning... What’s keeping you awake? ”

The Murder of Emma Keyse, and the Case of The Man They Couldn’t Hang
Emma Keyse was a 68-year-old woman living near Devon, UK, she had been a former lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria.
On 15th November, 1884, Emma’s cook woke up to the smell of smoke and upon investigation found that part of the house was on fire. When the alarm was raised and the house searched, Emma’s body was found in the dining room. Emma’s throat had been slit and she had been badly beaten, parts of her body were charred but it was clear she had been murdered before the house had been set on fire.
A local man, John Lee, who worked as Emma’s footman was charged with the murder. Evidence against Lee was circumstantial- no murder weapon or blood traces were found. There were no reports Lee had any problems or disagreements with Emma while working for her, and it was suggested that Lee was only suspected due to having a criminal record. Lee was, however, found guilty and sentenced to death.
On the day of Lee’s execution by hanging, the scaffold drop did not work, it had worked fine previously and appeared to work when no one was on it, but not when Lee was on it. After three attempts to carry out Lee’s death sentence the execution was postponed. Lee’s sentence was changed to life in prison and he earned the nickname ‘the man they couldn’t hang.’ He successfully applied for release from prison in 1907.
Emma Keyse’s murder remains unsolved.

“ d'you know i would seriously consider drinking the atlantic whole if only you asked me to. ”
With the noisy din of the tavern around them pleasantly muffled by the alcohol in his system, Jack’s first thought was that he had misheard John completely – but they were both in a far too secluded and quiet corner for that. It was a happy medium they had both come to enjoy; walking into any haunt in Tortuga carried with it the almost certainty that Jack would be noticed by someone or other, meaning that a certain amount of privacy not only benefitted them on a more personal level, but ensured that the trouble either one of them, but more likely Jack, could wreak was kept to a minimum. At least for a few hours.
Still, that meant that Jack had understood John perfectly, and had caught the look in his eyes as he’d leaned in and uttered the words, too. Never underestimate the honesty of a drunk man, mate. The sentiment, absurd and yet somehow endearing all at once in its execution, caught him so off guard that at first he didn’t know what to say. John’s capacity for loyalty was a trait he was familiar enough with by now, but that he was the bloody lucky sod to have earned it from him? Touched didn’t even begin to describe how such an honour felt.
In the end, Jack decided that playing along with the mood of the evening was a safer option than confronting it head on, and he let out a quiet laugh under his breath. ‟ The whole Atlantic, mm? ” His dark eyes turned from surprised to playful in an instant – though still taking a moment to glance sidelong at the other man’s drink and take a mental note of just how much of it had already been consumed. ‟ I think you’re one too many sheets to the wind, John. ” He leaned in. ‟ That’s a lot of water. ”

"Right. Can you forgive someone for being a complete and total dickhead?" It's going to take a bit more than a self-deprecating remark, a dash of boyish charm, and a bottle of wine to make this right. He knows that, and she knows he knows that. He holds up the wine even so, quirks an eyebrow at her. "From the place we met. Which probably means it's shit. Much like me. I'm sorry, Mar."
“‘Dickhead’ doesn’t begin to cover it,” Hawke snapped, anger to hide the pain, but doing a damned incomplete job of it. John would see right through it, he always had been able to read her right to the core, right from the first. It had been exciting, and then it had been terrifying, and then it had been gone. Gone, poof! Like a magic trick. Like exactly the cruel trick she always expected life to pull on her.
He’d left town without a word, vanished on her for months. He’d left her alone, like she’d always known he would. Like everyone else did. And then, insult to injury, when he did come back she’d had to hear about it secondhand, her network of informants dropping the information in among the rest of the gossip and rumor they collected, as though it was no more important than anything else. He hadn’t even come to find her. She’d had to go find him. Except she’d chickened out, hadn’t she? Hadn’t gone at all. She’d sent him a bloody postcard, hadn’t even signed it. He’d know who it was from, and he had.
And here he stood, all sheepishness and charm, brandishing a cheap bottle of wine and the promise of an explanation. When Sherlock had pulled a trick like this on John, John had punched him right in his damned aquiline face. Her fingers clenched around themselves and she wondered if John would react if she swung at him, or if he’d just let her do it. Like it was her due.
She looked at the bottle.
“From the bloody Tesco?” she asked, finally. “Or from that cafe?”

FORSCIENCE ! a common declaration in response to john’sinquiries about whatever experiments he happens to be conducting . what’reyou doing ? i’m testing the decomposition of toenailsin sulfuric acid . why ? experimentation , john , it’s for science . john’s never overly pleased , & one out of precisely seven & a half times they get into nasty fightsabout it , so sherlock’s taken the liberty of savinghis experimenting for when john’s out of the flat . john took about thirteen minutes laterthan usual to get home from work , so that meant he picked up groceries , which certainly meant his feetwere aching about three percent more . ( there’s a few pinky fingers contained in abag , sitting on the top shelf of the fridge , and john certainly won’t likethat . lovely . there’s a fight brewing already . ) today’s experiment consistsof the reaction of blood to certain chemicals , & there’s already a few marks up & down his forearm from where he’s takensamples . john’s there in thedoorway , sure enough with his arms laden withbags , looking very much like he’dlike to launch into a shouting match . a not good day at the surgery , then . ❝ considering , john , that you deal with me on a daily basis , i’d like to hope that statement is incorrect. i’ll have it cleaned upwithin five minutes . ❞
