Head North!
By Cris Evert Tolentino January 9, 2017
Dancing grass, fresh rural air, and up-close experience with farm animals like cows, carabaos, horses, and even wild boars – these are just some of life’s simplest pleasures that can be found not too far from the urban city. Entering the gateway to the North, Caloocan City, Bulacan welcomes us with a warm smile of its rich heritage.
Few years ago, we decided to leave the busy streets of the metro and transferred to a quiet living in the North. From Caloocan City, we settled in Marilao, Bulacan. Just an hour drive or two from Caloocan City via North Luzon Expressway exiting at Meycauayan Toll or Marilao Toll. Going through MacArthur Highway is also possible to reach Marilao, Bulacan. However, passing through first in Valenzuela City.
We live in one of Marilao’s subdivision, Metrogate II. It’s a quiet place and is usually described by first-timers as a place far from civilization because of the travel time. But, for someone who is used to it already, an hour or two of travel time is something that is already part of his day to day life. Marilao, Bulacan is a simple place. It has an SM branch along the stretch of MacArthur Highway and a lot of different food places that cook and sell Bulacan delicacies and sweets!
Among the well-known manufactured sweet goods in the province are suman and cassava. During parties and anniversaries around the province, suman and cassava are usually given away as “take homes” or “pasalubongs” together with bananas and other fruits.
Another favorite is empanada. A deep-fried bread stuffed with meat like tuna, chicken, pork, or beef. This treat can be found in shopping malls and is best enjoyed while it’s hot!
Bulacan is also a home for fun and exciting resorts. Some of them are Hidden Sanctuary Resort in Marilao, Bulacan; Jed’s Island Resort in Calumpit, Bulacan; Grotto Vista Resort in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan; Villa Concepcion Wet & Wild Waves and Amana Waterpark Philippines in Pandi, Bulacan; 8 Waves Waterpark in San Rafael, Bulacan and; DJ Paradise Resort in Malolos City, Bulacan.
If you’re planning for a break not far from the city and would love to enjoy the simple rural life for a while, Bulacan is definitely the place to be! With its resorts and delicacies, surely it will be a time well spent with the whole family and friends without sacrificing the quality of vacation and, of course, time and budget.
