Star Trek: Voyager Repression
Maybe it's a conspiracy. Since Voyager began sending datastreams back home, Starfleet has known that almost a quarter of the crew is Maquis.

Voyager Crew invents the internet again but only on their ship and sometimes as a deal with other species they also give them brief access to their shitty little internet messaging boards
#idk if star trek has a canonical internet equivalent and I don't care#I love the idea of them accidentally inventing internet 2: it happened again#its supposed to be used for work but the crew quickly stops being professional and it devolves into something more casual#start: 'Crewman Chell if possible would you be able to assist in engineering at 0600 hours tomorrow? thank you - Ensign x.'#end: 'Chell g2EN before breakfast - Ensign teeth'#they also come up with their own shorthand and slang#g2EN - get to Engineering#cant wait to see all of their extremely personalized pages#st voyager#the internet 2 is NOT very stable its glitchy as all hell bc its held together with digital gum and kwazy glue#goes out literally all the time#but its theirs v_v

goddd now that I've finally properly finished voyager here are my simple changes to make it less. what it is.
add Chell to the main cast to bolster the alien presence
make Tom Paris ("Toma Parys") bajoran for similar reasons
have seven and icheb arrive at the same time so they can develop together and have a sibling relationship instead of a mother-son one
Speaking of which give seven clothes. this is obvious but must be said
take on a Kazon crewman or keep Kess and make her species' whole, everything, less weird. again more aliens voyager is so human
introduce the Borg earlier or keep them around later-- either way something to tie the earlier seasons to the later ones more succinctly
let chakotay be Maya like his actor lol how did "fake generic native american tribe" fly even in 95
give neelix expanded side plots and episodes like quark had in ds9-- he gets a few but they're never very in depth nor do they have lasting consequences beyond the final one
I could go on abt specific episodic problems but that's a futile act. I love voyager btw it's just not very "good" compared to it's predecessor lol

Neelix adds Korean BBQ tables to the mess hall, but the fire suppression systems interfere. When B'Elanna scoffs at his request to turn them off, he asks Lt Carey, then Ensign Vorik, then Crewman Chell, who finally agrees. The tables are an immediate crew-favorite.
B'Elanna admits that the tables are fun, but maintains that they present a safety hazard. Neelix says she's just bitter because she can't use chopsticks as well as the rest of the crew. She gets defensive, but the reality is that she can't, so her protests fall on deaf ears.
Tom realizes the flame height and intensity can be adjusted. He holds a s'mores night with scary stories and forts. When a fort nearly catches fire, Chell regrets his role in deactivating fire suppression. B'Elanna finally learns to use chopsticks, just as the BBQs are removed.

I want a bit part in your life, a walk-on would be fine ...
You know those secondary characters who pop up once or twice, crack out a few lines and then are never heard from again?
(Lon Suder ... Marla Gilmore ... Joe Carey ... you know the drill!)
You know the ones who feature as the special guest star in one episode, only to disappear from the collective memory?
(Lyndsey Ballard, anyone? Mortimer Harren? Tal Celes?)
And the ones who rate a mention in dialogue but not a line of their own, and sometimes not even a face?
(Ensign Hickman, hey there! Susan Nicoletti, how you doing? Kurt Bendera, what do you even look like when you're not in a coffin?)
And then there are the ones who faithfully appear in the background, might occasionally utter an 'aye captain' or an 'energise', but are otherwise silently ubiquitous?
(Oh hello there, Ensign Ashmore of the gold shirt, I see you there in Engineering! Crewman Anderson, you're pretty handy with that phaser!)
What about the people who aren’t part of Voyager’s crew, but who make some kind of a lasting impression?
(That means you, Jetrel, and you, Noss. And definitely you, Jaffen.)
And you know the characters who fit into one of these categories, but feature in less than 100 fics on AO3?
Those are the ones we're talking about! Those characters who existed purely as a punchline or a plot device or a hapless redshirt. Those characters had their own stories, damn it, and we want to read all about them!
Those are the characters this collection is for. So come on and post your fic here, but remember - we're focusing on characters who appear in 100 fics or fewer.
So it's a yes to Chell (17 fics) but a no to Ayala (153), and a yes to Megan (41) and Jenny (47) Delaney but no to Seska (109) or Sam Wildman (179).
(Although the rules say Kashyk is eligible, being listed as a character in only 58 fics on AO3, he does seem to get plenty of airtime, so I offer this challenge: If you’re adding a Kashyk fic, consider also writing a Kellin fic. 😈)
The collection is open. Let's give these hard working bit players their time to shine.
-------------------------
Need help researching your characters? Visit the USS Voyager personnel manifest for the full list of players.
(This is @curator-on-ao3‘s fault idea - I’m just executing it)

Private Message to Seven of Nine
@sevenofninetertiaryadjunctofunim
Seven, it is obvious to me from the comments you’ve made on Tumblr that you still feel no remorse for having read the confidential medical files of Lieutenants Paris and Torres. I don’t trust you not to do it again and I can’t in good conscience allow you to have continued access to the ship’s classified data.
As a result, I am reassigning you to Maintenance under the direction of Crewman Chell, effective immediately. He has quite a backlog of work orders to complete and will no doubt welcome the assistance of an efficient and thorough helper. Your expertise in Astrometrics will be greatly missed, but you have left me with no other option. This reassignment will continue until I am satisfied that you are trustworthy.
I can imagine that the concept of privacy is very difficult for a former Borg drone to grasp, but you need to try. Lieutenants Torres and Paris are aware of your actions and I fear that you have severely damaged your relationship with them. It will be up to you to find a way to repair it and it isn’t going to be easy.
Seven, I hope you will learn from this experience. Everyone makes mistakes, but you can always try to make things right with those you’ve hurt and resolve to do better. I am always available if you need to talk and I know that Chakotay would also be willing to listen.

Chell: (to Garret, who has stopped) Thank you. You can stay there as long as you like as far as I'm concerned. This pack feels like it's filled with platinum bricks.
Tuvok: Crewman Garret. What is the problem up there? Keep going.
Chell: ...Maybe he'll slip and plunge to his death.

Captain’s Personal Log
I’ve reassigned Seven to Maintenance under the direction of Crewman Chell until I feel she can be trusted with the main computer again. I hope it will be soon because I miss Seven’s thorough Astrometrics reports and her unique perspective during our senior staff meetings.
I don’t think that Seven meant to cause any deliberate harm to anyone when she decided to read the medical files. She doesn’t truly understand what privacy means and how her actions have hurt and angered her friends. How could she when even her very thoughts were completely controlled by the Borg Collective? And once she left the Collective, did we ever try to explicitly teach her about privacy? It makes me cringe to think about all of the years she lived in the cargo bay where any crew member could wander in at any moment. I assigned Seven quarters when she finally requested them, but she should have had a space of her own from the very beginning.
Nevertheless, the fact remains that Seven has committed a serious offense and hurt her friends. I hope she will realize that everyone makes mistakes and that she can steps to begin to rebuild the trust she has damaged. Remorse and genuine efforts to learn and grow can work wonders.
It occurs to me that this whole situation arose because Seven is upset that Chakotay has moved in with me. I never addressed her concerns because I needed to deal with her infraction, but I’ll make sure to talk to her soon. She needs to know how much I value her friendship and company. I would never allow my relationship with Chakotay to affect our own friendship and I will still make time for her, just as I’ve always done in the past. I was specifically thinking of Seven when Chakotay and I decided not to reassign his quarters. Sometimes Seven needs to talk to me privately and Chakotay is a very understanding man. He won’t mind going to his quarters so we can talk undisturbed.
I suppose there’s nothing much to do now but wait and see what happens. And hope that if she reads this log, she takes it to heart and does some deep thinking. I don’t want her to feel as if we’ve rejected her. I want her to be a part of our community again. Nothing is the same without her.
