NDIS Therapeutic Support Services:

The therapeutic support is provided by individuals or groups of individuals to the ones that are in need of support due to certain conditions. The therapeutic interventions, however, are applied for the individuals who specifically need help but refuse to get it. These are two separate terms that involve different treatments but people tend to confuse them.

Moreover, respect for the patient has to be maintained in the forefront by the professionals in such therapies. Thereby, whenever providing support or implementing interventions, the patient’s beliefs, and values should be respected and supported without any exception. The patient should be kept at the center of attention despite the change in values, opinions, and biases. 

Therapeutic Support for Adults:

The therapeutic support can be accessed for the NDIS participant that is 18 or above. They are assessed and provided with tailored treatments by the specialists to ensure they reach their goals. The therapeutic supports they can access are:

Psychology:

The NDIS participants can get help from psychology professionals for their mental health. These psychology professionals offer individual as well as supportive therapies to the adult participants. These therapies typically include assessments, report writing, and recommendations.   

These services assist the individuals to get a better comprehension of diagnosis and thereby develop greater insight. These therapies provide psychoeducation, support with enhanced communication, emotional regulation, and also self-esteem enhancement.

Mental Health Occupational Therapy:

These are for people struggling with diverse life circumstances. The “Mental Health Occupational therapy” services typically involve functional assessments as well as sensory profiling. The NDIS registered occupational therapist and NDIS nurses help the individuals by assisting them in daily living skills, social skills, interpersonal relations, and mental capacity development.

The individual gains enhanced social skills which are specifically crucial to love a better life. The support provided by these individuals helps the individuals to perform activities like exploring their interests, setting goals, and gaining motivation to achieve these goals. This all happens while they develop and maintain their weekly activities stream.

Physical Occupational Therapy:

The basic difference that can be found between physical and occupational therapies is that physical therapists mainly focus on enhancing the individual’s ability to move their body. On the contrary, the occupational therapist mainly focuses on enhancing the individual ability to perform ADL (activities of daily life)

The occupational and physical therapy services typically include functional assessments, and also home and environmental assessments. The NDIS therapy professionals and NDIS nurses support the individuals to develop their abilities and skills so that they can live life their way, the way they want it to be.

The occupational therapy professionals specifically utilize different strategies to assist the individuals to be more independent. They not only offer recommendations but also provide access to assistive technology to support their independent lifestyle.

Physiotherapy:

Another term utilized for Physiotherapy is Physical Therapy and as the name shows, this therapy attempts to treat the aspects that limit individual abilities to move or perform ADL. This is the type of therapy that treats the diseases, deformities, disabilities, or injuries of individuals to enhance their quality of life.

The registered physiotherapist supports the individuals by accessing or treating any muscle or joint injuries, helping them with balance and mobility. They assist with suitable exercises and offer treatment and advice to enhance wellbeing and health. They also help with the complex and chronic concerns from aspects like pain management for improving fitness and strength

Individual Counseling:

Individual counseling is also typically known as psychotherapy. This treatment assists the individuals to work with professional mental health clinicians. These therapies are focused more on the immediate or near future individual concerns.

This type of therapeutic support also typically involves social work along with counseling. These supports typically include psychosocial assessments, development of disability and limitation comprehension, problem-solving, individual counseling, ad capacity/skills development.
