Brief Background: Rachel is the only child of Meghan Mathison; her father is unknown. She had a very close relationship with her mother, and while it had its challenges being raised by a single parent, Rachel had a good childhood. Unfortunately, her mother died from complications with pneumonia when she was twelve, and after that, she moved down to Lakeland, Florida to be raised by her Uncle Paul. It was a major adjustment for Rachel, she was angry for many years, but her Uncle Paul thankfully got her seeing a good therapist and was patient with her. Paul became the father she never had.
After graduating from high school, Rachel pursued her dreams of attending college and law school in New York, preferring the hustle and bustle of the large city over the quietness of the suburbs. Still, she would visit her beloved uncle every year for the holidays, and he would visit at least once during the summer.
However, during her early 30's, her uncle developed some health hardships due to his diabetes, so Rachel moved back down to Florida to be closer to him. Once she was settled in Florida, she gained employment at a law firm in Tampa. She typically works with civil cases, particularly going into family law cases, and due to her uncle being a Vietnam War vet, she does handle a lot of local veteran advocacy cases.
Personality: Sarcastic, dedicated, strong moral compass, stubborn, intelligent, career-driven, assertive, organized.
Likes: Horror books and movies (Not slashers, though); Classical jazz and 80's/90's pop music; Running; Freshly baked blueberry bagel with cinnamon sugar cream cheese spread; Old fashions and espresso martinis; Planning ahead so she does not need to stress at the last minute; Happy endings, even if she acts very cynical at times.
Dislikes: Overly sappy Hallmark movies; People who cannot take a hint or handle rejection well; Plagiarizers, rely on others to do the work for them then taking credit; Loud techno/dance music; Soy cheese (It is a texture thing for her); Being late or others being late; Surprises.
Random Headcanons: -She is a vegetarian. She has been since she was thirteen. She tried veganism for about three weeks, but she missed cheese too much. -Her favorite movie growing up was Aliens. Ripley was hero. -Her favorite Halloween costume was when she was 16 and went to a party as bloodied Carrie. -Although she is not a gamer or a fan of creepypastas, she watches a lot YouTube content involving the SCP, Bloodborne, and season one of Marble Hornets. -She has dinner with her Uncle Paul every week, at least once during the week, usually on Saturday's.
[Other established verses below cut]
MARVEL/MCU VERSE
Instead of moving down to Florida, Rachel stays in New York after graduating from Columbia Law School. She goes to work for the Attorney General's office to handle DFCS cases. She is known best for working with single parents so long as they are not physically abusing the child(ren). She also does veteran advocacy cases and IP law. She still visits her uncle twice a year at least, and she video chats with him at least once a week.

the beauty of ardra 💧🌑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
💧margot robbie (ardra surya): upper photo
💧emilia clarke (ardra chandra): lower photo
🌑 the nakshatras of the nodes have a very distinctive appearance. the influence of the feminine rahu bestows ardra natives with the typical feminine features, such as delicate facial features, larger eyes, and a voluptuous body. the yin features of rahu gives natives a type of otherworldly and ethereal appearance, similar to that of saturn. this is because both planets are of the air element (for a better understanding of this go to my pushya nakshatra post). these natives typically have large and rounded eyes, dainty noses, and a lighter complexion (depending on the native’s ethnicity, i.e. if a rahuvian woman is of a darker complexion, she may have a slightly lighter complexion than her other non-rahuvian family members).
⭕️ let’s look at rahu’s most evolved state: the shatabisha nakshatra. this nakshatra is symbolized by the empty, yin circle. shatabisha is ruled by varuna, god of the rains, cosmic and terrestrial waters, sky and earth. in addition to the mystical healer, maya (illusion). the nature of shatabisha is also abundant in the other rahu-ruled vimshottari nakshatras (ardra and swati). this is because rahu is the utmost manifestation of the divine feminine. maya, being the embodiment of illusion, betows rahuvian individuals with the power of being an empty vessel for the divine collective; bending reality and transforming into the desires of others the native deems worthy. however, due to rahu’s rebellious nature, we see this powerful feminine force being steadfast and not easily influenced by others.

💧emily blunt (ardra chandra): lower photo
🌧 ardra is the first rahu-ruled nakshatra. in order to better understand the nature of ardra, we need to take a step back and understand the previous nakshatra—mrigashira. mrigashira was the rejection of the garden of ignorance and the freedom to move on. in ardra, we see the process of forming the rational mind and free will. due to the intellectual nature of rudra, we see ardra natives preferring to study, understand, and learn about the physical world/plane. this often leads to a fascination with the physical plane and understanding the workings of everything that peaks their interest. with the mercurial energy of gemini (knowledge) and rahuvian influence of the vimshottari system (materialism and illusion), we can see the reasoning of ardra’s prevelance in dystopian, horror, and sci-fi films. this nakshatra’s fixation on understanding the world and finding freedom is the perfect combination for creating films with dark subject matter. rudra’s intentionally destructive nature also provides ardra natives with a niche ability to accumulate knowledge to understand the workings of the world and destroy what seems to not be fit. precisely how rudra represents the emotional release and purification that occurs after the storms of the plane or mind cease (more on this later!). this is similar to most character development in many horror/sci-fi films and the ever present devil/savior trope. if you’re interested in further looking into this dichotomy, i recommend “the exorcist” starring linda blair (ardra chandra), “bedazzled” staring elizabeth hurley (ardra lagna), and “supernatural” starring mark pellegrino (ardra lagna). this trope is also perfectly illustrated by lana del rey’s (ardra surya) music. in her earlier albums, “born to die”, “paradise”, and “ultraviolence”, the singer describes her natural love of the darker things in life (i.e. drugs, violence, guns). as her albums progress, we see her slowly become more aware of the dangers of her lifestyle and her slowly moving towards love and kindness instead—much like rudra’s symbolism of calming after the tumultuous storms of life. i highly recommend listening to her music to gain an understanding of ardra’s themes!

💧victoria beckham (adra lagna): right photo
🦮 ardra is heavily associated with animals. it is symbolized by the female dog yoni. this is indicative of ardra’s devotional, emotional, and knowledgeable nature. rudra is the ruler of this nakshatra. rudra desired to become “the lord of the animals”. this nakshatra also has the same animalistic dominion desire of uttara phalguni and revati. this is because the yonis of all three nakshatras are the female dog (ardra), female cow (uttara phalguni), and female elephant (revati). this may be indicative of the motherly, animalistic nature of all three nakshatras. this is also why all three nakshatras get along so well. the animalistic nature of ardra is why we see hundreds of ardra natives in animal prints, fur or leather, or animal symbolism via graphic tees or headbands; similar to the reoccurring cow print in uttara phalguni fashion!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
💧vienna skye (ardra surya): upper photo
💧ariana grande (ardra surya): lower photo
🍀 another reoccuring style theme for ardra was the appreciation of 60s fashion, particularly the mod era of the 60s. time and time again, when doing my research for this post, i saw a multitude of ardra natives dress up/try to emulate 60s fashion. ardra natives such as ariana grande’s (ardra surya) 60s-inspired fashion in her most recent music videos (i.e. “34+35”) and chrissy tiegan’s (ardra lagna) multiple 60s themed events. i believe this behavior is due to rahu’s extreme prevalence in old hollywood and the 1960s’ modeling industry. for example, hedy lamarr (ardra lagna) was a prominent actress and inventor, jean shrimpton (swati surya) was an icon of swinging london and very popular model in the 60s, and pat cleveland (ardra surya) was a very well-known model who was the muse of every prominent fashion house in paris. i believe ardra natives try to emulate this era of fashion because of ardra’s appreciation of all things old and vintage, which appears to the nature of many of the rahuvian and ketuvian individuals. an additional thing to note is the prevalence of the color green in the ardra nakshatra. in hindu/vedic astrology, a particular type of color is dedicated to a certain nakshatra in which is lucky for the natives of the nakshatra to wear. green, being the color that symbolizes the fresh, succulent nature of rudra, is why the ardra natives shown above, vienna skye and ariana grande, are both wearing the color green. this also correlates to how many ardra natives have dyed their hair green shades or hues, i.e. gwen stefani (ardra chandra), nicole richie (ardra chandra), and rapper saweetie (ardra surya).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
💧kaya scodelario (ardra chandra): upper photo
💧emma mackey (ardra chandra): lower photo
🎸 all nodal nakshatras tend to have a propensity for darker elements and themes in the media. this can be reflected in ardra’s love for grungy, smoky makeup; darker clothing; and vampy, vintage hair and fashion looks (much like the magha nakshatra). this darker aesthetic was also heavily popular in the 90s/2000s. most notably, lizzy caplan (ardra surya), who played janis ian in “mean girls”, her character was well known for her liking of punk subculture, heavy eye makeup, and band merchandise, a trait that was also common with the characters played by ardra natives: kaya scodelario (ardra chandra) in “skins” and emma mackey (ardra chandra) in “sex education”. this behavior is prevalent in the ketu and rahu natives because it reflects the smoky and tamasic nature of both shadow planets. by rejecting the more popular, mainstream trends for the purpose of embracing more expressive and alternative movements (such as grunge, punk, rock, alternative, etc.). this why we see the nodal nakshatras so prominent in those subculture musical genres (i.e. ardra natives kurt cobain of “nirvana” and jimmy page of “led zeppelin”).
as always, i am open to any constructive criticism! i tried to touch on both the appearance, fashion and nature of ardra and i hope i did well! this post took me forever to make and i truly tried to put so much effort into it! i just adore ardra’s emotional, purposefully destructive, raw and feminine energy its natives tend to reflect 🌩 if you are looking for more information about ardra, get to know the overrulers and supreme deities of rahu, durga (the goddess of power) and the serpent god, and mercury, vishnu (the maintainer) and narayana (the cosmic person)!! if any of my placements or information is incorrect please feel free to let me know! also, i am fully aware of the origins of vedic astrology and if i was in anyway disrespectful to hindu culture, i will take down this post immediately xx
* all of these placements were found using astrotheme/.com and/or astro-charts/.com. it is important to note that some chandra (moon) placements may be off by up to 6 degrees and lagnas (risings) as well, due to the fact that many websites do not have a 100% accurate birth time for the given celebrities.
* i take no credit for the invention of vedic astrology-based appearance profiles. please watch claire nakti on youtube or look into @/cn0bles, @/lovejustlied, @/dh4nishta, and @/vanillemercure on twitter for more in-depth analysis on vedic astrology xx

Newsletter #55: The importance of James Kaliardos - more than a makeup artist
This week’s podcast was all about beauty news, and included a special section on the brilliance of makeup artist James Kaliardos. It all started with Lori Harvey getting ready for Vogue World on YouTube…
When IT Girl Lori looks over at her makeup artist, James Kaliardos, she simply introduces him as ‘James, my makeup artist.’ Which makes sense; Lori can afford the absolute best when it comes to her glam squad, and she does not owe anyone any credit, but I decided to use my podcast to create an extra episode, just so I could share a little information on James’ career, which began back in the 1990s.
I also created a TikTok on James and it’s received such good feedback from people who had either never heard of him before, or were glad to be reminded of his influence. Of course, there were a couple of comments saying that I’m unfairly ‘coming for Lori’ or ‘feigning annoyance’ and it’s not true at all. I was kind of annoyed, not at Lori - just at the missed opportunity.
It feels like, in 2022, information (often incorrect information at that) is shared without even a second being spent on adding a little context. When you’re in a position of influence, you have the ability to really celebrate someone’s work. In this instance, a high profile client is paying someone for a service and they don’t owe any public reviews or endorsements, but for me, James Kaliardos is highly influential, and not just in beauty. Here are just some of the reasons why…
New York-based James studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design, where he focused on art history, photography, theatre and film, a decision which absolutely would have inspired him to go on to be one of the founders of the legendary Visionaire, a fashion-forward so-called experiential agency that produces films, events and publications. Launched in 1991 alongside Cecelia Dean and Stephen Gan, Visionaire has earned itself a reputation for highlighting the most interesting moments and people in fashion, art and film. They’ll often create these stunning themed issues with some costing as much as $1,000 and there was one special Louis Vuitton issue that went for $5,000.
Visionaire also launched one of my favourites, the highly influential V magazine in 1999, VMan in 2003 and former editor in chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book in 2012. In 2014 the initial trio split, so today Cecelia and James run the company and the title Visionaire, while Stephen retained V and VMan.
James is also highly respected in the beauty world, and is often the artist that brands either want to collaborate with on a new range, or have backstage creating catwalk looks. We’re talking MAC, Nars, Tom Ford, Fenty Beauty, Makeup Forever – the list goes on it comes to makeup launches that have changed the face of beauty.
He’s worked on movies, music videos and his work has been seen in publications from Vogue to Allure and his celebrity clientele has taken him from working with Madonna in the ‘90s to Miley Cyrus, and of course, Lori Harvey. I think it’s all down to James’ highly attuned editorial eye; he simply knows what works and he creates looks that are super impactful but never fussy or overly-done.
One thing I personally love about James’ style, is that he’s never been a fan of a prescribed idea of prettiness; as he said in a 2016 interview for thekit.ca, he’s always been more into the girls who look even better than pretty – it’s about looking interesting and that looks different on everyone. So that’s that on James; I just wanted to share a little bit about who he is, just in case you happened to see his work with Lori Harvey. Lori might be an It girl but James is IT when it comes to beauty and innovation.

Movies I watched this week - 39
I spent over 50 (!) hours on the sofa this week, (enjoying myself 85% of the time)...
Sløborn, an ominous Danish-German TV pandemic series, very much like Soderbergh’s ‘Contagion’ and in ‘Black Mirror’ style. Normal life of a small island community between Denmark and Germany breaks down and completely collapses when it is hit by a lethal bird flue like virus.
It was extremely prescient, as it was shot in 2019, before Covid! Conceived as Si-fi, it looks today like TV, because the series was able to capture everything that happened around the world after January 2020 in accurate details.
With Roland Møller (of ‘Riders of Justice’). 7+/10
✴️
My introduction to “The grandmother of The French New Wave”, Agnès Varda (Hard to believe that I never saw her films before!):
✳️✳️✳️ “Inspiration, Creation and Sharing...” Varda by Agnès, my first Varda is her last 2019 auto-biography, in which, at 90, she shared footage and stories from her life and work. The first sample clip (of meeting her Uncle Yanco in Sausalito) won me over, and the rest convinced me to catch up on everything I’ve missed through the years. What a wonderful artist!
✳️✳️✳️ Cléo from 5 to 7. A feminine film about female identity - a new favorite! A beautiful singer must wait 2 hours for the results of her cancer tests. With a magnifique mid-film scene (at 0;38) of the heartbreaking chanson 'Sans Toi', marking the beginning of her quiet transformation.
✳️✳️✳️ Vagabond, a story of a lonely, young woman, an unapologetic drifter, unglamorous, aimless, independent, desperately lost. Dark and nonjudgmental exploration of the refusal to conform to anything. 8+/10.
✳️✳️✳️ (For Sammy - Per our conversation). The Gleaners and I, "The eighth best documentary film of all time”, per ‘Sight & Sound poll. Derived from the famous painting by Millet. Simply wonderful!
✳️✳️✳️ One Hundred And One Nights, 100 year old Michel Piccoli “Monsieur Simon Cinema”, hires a young girl to reminisce with about the history of cinema. An unsuccessful Meta-film that nevertheless is a love letter for cinephiles. Populated by 3 dozens of Who’s Who of French (and World) stars, playacting in this symbolic, Fellinisque fable that draws upon the classics. Mastroianni, Depardieu, Belmondo, Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve, Jeanne Moreau, Anouk Aimée, Fanny Ardant, Gina Lollobrigida, Jane Birkin, etc, etc..
(Photo Above).
✳️✳️✳️ The Young Girls of Rochefort, the wonderful, colorful, sentimental musical by Varda’s husband Jacques Demy, with the most beautiful woman in the world and her sister. Romantic eye candy set to music by Michel Legrand. A year later Deneuve would do Belle de Jour, and Françoise Dorléac would die in a car accident, 8+/10
✳️✳️✳️ Even better, The Young Girls Turn 25, Varda’s 1993 behind the scenes documentary and return to small town Rocheford, to show how it changed the town and left an impression. 9/10
“...The memory of happiness is perhaps also happiness...”
✴️
The other Jacques Demy modern opera The Umbrellas of Cherbourg knocked me over all over again. Catherine Deneuve’s angelic beauty in this film made me cry for the duration like a baby. And not only at the train station when they say goodbye forever.
10/10
✴️
Night moves, a tense thriller by Kelly Reichardt, about three radical environmentalists who blow up an Oregon dam. Slow and tense, and like her ‘First Cow’, watching it filled me with constant, low-level anxiety. The off-screen sabotage is placed at the exact mid-point of the movie: The first half is the preparation for it, and the second half shows the aftermath of the act. 7+/10
✴️
2 unexpected Small Town gems by Miguel Arteta:
✳️✳️✳️ The good Girl, an odd and surprising mismatched romance between 30 year old Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal (22) as employees of a Texas big-box store that is always empty. Her voice-over reminded me of True Romance’s Alabama Whitman. 7/10
✳️✳️✳️ Ed Helms, a sheltered insurance salesman from the backwaters of Wisconsin, goes to an convention in the big city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The nearly conventional story arc has some genuinely heartfelt funny moments. With Maeby Fünke, as Bree the prostitute and Sigourney Weaver as the ex-teacher he balls. Also a surprising drug party, where he smoke crack cocaine and loves it. 5+/10
✴️
Same theme of people prostituting their own ‘morals’, the notoriously-prudish 1993 Indecent Proposal didn’t age too well. “Billionaire”-porn that asks the question ‘How much would you pay for one night with Robert Redford?’ Gratuitous semi-naked Demi Moore included.
Related: “Stop hitting the button!”
✴️
Wildland (Kød & blod = Flesh and blood), an uncomfortable and claustrophobic Danish gangster thriller about a 17 year old girl who moves in with the criminal family of Sidse Babett Knudsen, her estranged aunt. 6+/10
“For some people, things go wrong before they even begin”
✴️
Jim Jarmusch‘s Broken Flowers, a touching road film with Bill Murray, as an old ‘Don Juan’ who receive a pink, unsigned letter from an old lover, letting him know that he has a 20 year old son he never knew about.
Loveliest film of the week.
✴️
The 2 films directed by Tom Ford:
✳️✳️✳️ A single Man, a sad and lonely gay professor, closeted in 1962 Los Angeles, is preparing to kill himself with a gun, after his boyfriend / love of his life had died in a car accident. Mute and haunting aesthetics in the fashion designer’s debut film, based on a Christopher Isherwood novel.
The ‘Stormy Weather’ dance scene between Charley and George. 8/10
✳️✳️✳️ Nocturnal Animals: Amy Adams is an unhappy owner of a fancy art gallery who receives a disturbing book manuscript written by her ex-husband, which symbolizes their relationship 20 years prior. Rarefied visuals and distinctive style.
Starts with an astonishing scene of obese old ladies dancing naked at Amy’s gala event. Michael Shannon rules as a dying Texas detective! 6+/10.
✴️
Jean Vigo’s 1933 classic Zero for Conduct was so blatantly anarchistic, it was immediately banned in France until after WW2. In silent film style, it tells about a group of mischievous kids who rebel against the authorities of their old-fashioned boarding school. Part-inspiration for Truffaut's 400 Blows.
✴️
Anatomy of a murder, Otto Preminger’s 1960 courtroom drama, with opening credits by Saul Bass. Crisp black & white cinematography, and with rape victim Lee Remick playing it as an outgoing loose girl of ambiguous morals, a modern floozy. 7/10.
✴️
Blush, a wondrous, spectacularly-animated, wordless short by Joe Mateo. What starts as a riff on ‘The Little Prince’, ends up like the opening montage from ‘Up’. The obvious realization that this is a personal metaphor makes the story even deeper.
I watched it twice back to back. 10/10
✴️
If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast - 95 year old Carl Reiner asks a bunch of charming nonagenarian friends how they manage to live so well for so long. Their answers may (not) shock you...
Spry Dick Van Dyke (92) and half-his-age wife end the film with a lovely rendition of “Young at heart”
✴️
Hi-school-level adaptation of Thomas Piketty's book Capital in the 21st Century. A breezy discussion of how slave economy and colonialist military repression 300 years ago turn into extreme capitalism of inequality & tax-avoidance today. America is now similar economically to what England was in the early 1800s. A tiny percentage of society controls almost all its wealth. (Full text of the book here).
✴️
Ride the eagle, a flat new indie about a guy whose estranged hippy mother leaves him her cabin at the lake when she dies, but only if he complete a certain list of tasks. Could be so much better, but the actor playing the guy was just so terrible. Unlike JK Simmons who had a small role. Best detail, when he discovers that all the cabinets in the house are full with pot.
✴️
Old, my first, (and possibly last), M. Night Shyamalan. The seductive premise of a secluded beach at a fancy tropical resort that ages everybody who comes there, turns into an unconvincing Twilight Zone bore.
...”(Gurgling sounds)”...
✴️
First watch: I never saw (any) Planet of the apes before, and in spite of my misgivings, gave it a go. 100% anthropomorphic, it couldn’t visualize a universe different from the American mindset of that period. Preachy and very Rod Sterling-like. "It's a madhouse in here”. Pass!
✴️
The latest Veritasium YouTube video about bowling current technology. Always interesting.

Throw-back to the art project:

October 22nd is Minako Aino/Sailor Venus’s birthday!
Tumblr media
So how can you celebrate?
♀ Rewatch or reread your favourite Venus-centric chapter, episode, or musical! She might’ve been the last of the Sailor Team to be introduced, but she was actually the first Sailor Soldier ever - Sailor V. Prominent 90s anime episodes include episode 036, one of the earliest Venus-centric episodes, where she take Usagi out for a haircut to cheer her up; episode 042, where we finally learn of Minako’s (anime-canon) past working in London as Sailor V with her mentor, Katarina; episode 078, where the rest of the Sailor Team falls ill with a mysterious flu and it’s up to Minako to “help” nurse them to health; episode 100, where an old unrequited flame gets Minako rethinking her life goals and considers quitting her duty as a Sailor Soldier; episode 114, where Minako gets a shot at becoming a real idol, but has to compete with the villain Mimete; episode 141, where Minako goes on two dates at the same time and reaps the reward of her own hubris; and episodes 175 and 192, where Minako gets even closer to realising her idol dreams with some industry experience.
Did you know Minako has her very own manga series? In fact, it was written before the Sailor Moon manga even existed! Codename: Sailor V is much shorter, more comedic, and action-oriented than PGSM, and elaborates not only on Minako’s character and role before meeting the other Guardians but also the history of the Silver Millennium and the Dark Kingdom. If you were disappointed with Minako’s under-utilised role in the 90s anime, now is the perfect time to give the 2003 live-action a shot, where she has a much more prominent and plot-heavy role.
♀ Sailor Venus has several official image songs across different canons you can play for her big day, particularly in the live action, where she is a professional idol:
90s anime: Anata no Yume wo Mita Wa [“I’ve Seen Your Dream”]; Setsunakute Ii [“It’s Fine Even if it Pains Me”]; ROUTE VENUS; Ai no Megami no HOW TO LOVE [”How To Love per the Goddess of Love”] Live Action: C'EST LA VIE ~ Watashi no Naka no Koi Suru Bubun [“C’est la Vie ~ The Loving Side Within Me”]; Katagoshi ni Kinsei [“Venus Over My Shoulder”]; ROMANCE; Kiss!² Bang!² [“Kiss! Kiss! Bang! Bang!”]; Sayonara ~ SWEET DAYS [“Farewell ~ Sweet Days”]; HAPPY TIME, HAPPY LIFE; I’M HERE Crystal: HEART ga Tonjau Sora Dakara [“As It’s the Sky My Heart Soared Through”] Musicals: TRADITIONAL THE GRACE ~Ai no Arashi~ [“Traditional the Grace ~Storm of Love~”] Her voice actress Rika Fukami also recorded a cover of Shocking Blue’s hit song, Venus, inspired by the Bananarama cover that popularized the song in Japan. The opening bars of their version were also referenced in many of Minako’s official video game themes.
Here’s a playlist of all these songs and other Sailor Venus BGM cues!
♀ Indulge in some of Minako’s favourite foods! Minako is living that carb life, as her faves are ramen, gyoza (potsticker dumplings), and curry rice. Order out or challenge yourself to cooking them from scratch - just don’t include any mushrooms, which are Minako’s least favourite food.
♀ Minako is a very goal-oriented person, even if she’s not always the most focused, and many of her hobbies revolve around her dream of becoming an idol. Topmost, of course, is singing! She’s loved to sing and dance ever since she was a child. Learn a new dance routine - YouTube is a great start - or go clubbing with some friends. Minako is also particularly relevant to karaoke in the live action; why not gather a group and hit a karaoke bar?
Tumblr media
Minako’s pride and joy is her long, silky hair, which she takes great care of. If yours is in need of some TLC, treat it to a fancy hair mask, or make your own from simple ingredients. Alternatively, if you’ve been looking for a sign to make a drastic hairstyle change, chop, or colour, this might be that sign, as Minako is a huge advocate for how changing your hairstyle can change your outlook.
Tumblr media
She might not seem the type, but Minako has also been shown to enjoy knitting. Maybe she uses these skills to contribute to her massive collection of stuffed toys? Pick up those needles and finish that project you’ve been putting off or learn how to start from some videos or a local meet-up. If you’re an expert, you could even try a Sailor Moon pattern.
Tumblr media
Minako is a video game junkie, which makes sense, considering her alter-ego stars in one. She seems particularly fond of racing games, but also side-scrollers and fighting games; why not give a new indie title a try, or play as Minako herself in one of the many retro Sailor Moon games for the Super Nintendo and other systems? (Personally, my favourite is this arcade brawler.)
Tumblr media
After being an idol, and (maybe) her duty as a Guardian, Minako’s highest priority is volleyball. She had an incredible talent for the game even before discovering her super-human abilities as Sailor V. Why not hire some equipment for a casual game with some friends on the beach? (Though Minako wouldn’t judge you if you just played virtual volleyball instead.)
Tumblr media
♀ Dress like Minako for a day! She had the widest variation in fashion styles amongst the show’s characters, ranging from sporty, to preppy, to “cool”, to girlish, to eccentric high fashion. In colder weather she loved scarves and oversized jackets, but in warmer weather she opted for simple, breezy, minimalist looks. She favoured vests, and shorts/flowy, non-restrictive skirts so she was always ready to leap into action. The consistent element linking her different styles is her tendency to layer, layering jackets over vests over turtlenecks, layering necklaces over sun-dresses over summery blouses, etc.
Tumblr media
Her one mainstay accessory was her iconic red hair-bow, though she actually did swap it out to coordinate it with her outfit at times, and it was a pale yellow when she was a Princess. She started wearing the ribbon to impress a boy, but after he turned out to be a monster - uh, literally - she decided to keep wearing it because she liked it; so if something you used to love wearing has been tainted by a toxic relationship, you can Love and Beauty Shock it into something you wear for yourself. (By the way, before she wore the bow, she used a simple red scrunchie.)
Tumblr media
(Manga scan credits: sailormusic.net, MissDream.org)
As Sailor Venus, she started with simple yellow/orange studs that later became red and wore orange flats (often styled as d’orsays) with ankle-straps. Her nail polish was a fresh tangerine, and in her attack Love and Beauty Shock we can see she wears a pale orange/coral/peach lipgloss. Her image colours are orange, yellow, and a navy blue accent.
Tumblr media
... And of course, Minako never missed an opportunity to go big or go home; so if you have an over-the-top campy stage costume just lying around...
Tumblr media
♀ Match with your BFF twin for the day!
♀ Take up the sword!
♀ Line up a date. Or two. On the same day. (But don’t complain if you get caught!)
♀ Fav and read some Sailor Venus fanart and fanfic on sites like Pixiv, Twitter, and AO3 - or contribute your own new content! Don’t forget to tag!
Feel free to reply and reblog with your own ideas of how you’re going to celebrate Mina’s day!
Happy Birthday, Minako!

Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Tumblr media
It’s always fun jumping into a movie I know next to nothing about, and this requested review for Wes will be no exception. All I know is that Girls Just Want to Have Fun is an 80s teen romp with the worst photoshopped cover photo I’ve ever seen. It looks like Michael Scott put it together. I know it stars girls, AND I know what those girls want. That’s half your narrative battle right there. So do they achieve the fun they seek? Well...
They do! A lot of weird shit happens along the way, but yeah, fun is had and that’s all that really matters. God, 1985 was a simpler time. I mean, I know everyone was living in constant fear that the Russians were going to invade Kansas and we’d be faced with a neverending nuclear winter, but in the face of all that existential terror you also get movies where the entire pitch is “So there’s this girl (Sarah Jessica Parker) who wants to be a dancer on tv, but her parents don’t want to let her. But she does it anyway! And her partner is chosen for her and, boy, they do not see eye to eye. But then they do! And they have to practice a lot. And then they win the dance contest!”
You know some studio exec heard that and screamed at his secretary to hold his calls for the day so he could sign the contracts and then do a mountain of blow off them.
Some thoughts:
It’s so weird to see Sarah Jessica Parker without curly hair! I was never a Sex and the City fan, so my exposure to SJP is purely Hocus Pocus based.
This dance sequence over the credits is incredible. Why do we not have shows anymore that are just a large group of young attractive people dancing in sync? No host, no dialogue, just the power of dance. I was born in the wrong decade. I would have appreciated the shit out of the 80s when I was alive.
Poor Helen Hunt - she must be one of those people who always looked like she was 35, even in high school. Granted, she was 22 when this was filmed and she’s playing a teenager, but still.
Helen Hunt is wearing dinosaurs in her hair. 80s fashion was on a wavelength that I don’t think any of us living will ever see again.
Omg this rich bitch (Natalie, I guess? She’s not named for at least the first 30 min of the movie) had Claire’s closet from Clueless 10 years before the movie existed! This is already groundbreaking.
NOW SHE HAS A BUG ON HER HAT. A big plastic green grasshopper. This review is mainly going to be about the insane things Lynne (Helen Hunt) wears.
Speaking of - I’m getting big lesbian vibes from Lynne Stone and I am so here for it. The homoerotic tension when she acts like she’s gonna fight the rich bitch? Delicious. The immediate intimate connection she makes with SJP? Practically U-Hauling.
I love an 80s dance montage, and this movie promises to contain basically nothing but that tied loosely together with some nonsensical dialogue in between. This is gonna be my new favorite movie.
Ooh Nestle Quik syrup! I forgot about Nestle Quik.
Favorite line: “There is a time and a place for calypso music, young lady.”
Ohhh I see what this is gonna be - Janey (SJP) is a classically trained dancer and gymnast, and Jeff (Lee Montgomery) is more of a rough and tumble music video kinda guy from the streets. You can tell cause he’s got a motorcycle and a leather jacket. And he wears cutoff sleeves! He’s a white guy in Chicago, who could be more street than that? And they’re butting heads! How will they ever be able to make it work for the big dance contest??
How did Natalie know Janey’s phone number? She specifically said it was unlisted. Unless she remembers it from overhearing it offhand after the dance tryouts...? That’s insane, I can’t even remember what I wore yesterday let alone a 7-digit number someone shouted in a crowd.
Lynne Fashion Alert: Is she wearing a belt made out of bullets? And a Davy Crocket hat. This is galaxy brain lesbian fashion. If the costume designer for this movie didn’t win 10 Oscars...
The music director on the other hand...not sure what is up with all these weird KidzBop covers of excellent songs like “Dancing in the Street” or the titular “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” but if you’re gonna include them, you gotta spring for the originals. This is just sad.
I’ve never been at a party with an ice sculpture. I think that’s how you know you’re among the rich.
Whatever happened to Jonathan Silverman? I miss when he was the nebbishy sidekick in every 80s movie.
Who enters a party by catapulting through the damn window?? Punk does not mean that you no longer know how to use doors, sir!
Who serves a full roasted turkey at a party? Is this how rich people live? This feels like the equivalent of using Google translate to identify rich people food in another language, then translating it back to English.
Lynne Fashion Alert: Now I think she has space shuttles in her hair.
Wow we got a real 1-2 punch of sexual harassment in this club. Who wrote this Tune in Tokyo gag and was like “You know what would be hilarious? If this shitty little nerd convinced this girl to raise her arms so he can just grab her boobs full on, front and center. And then she gets upset and runs away. God I’m good at this *snorts another line*”
Lynne Fashion Alert: Now it’s two globes (like, two Earths) with crab claws on them? This is a choice that I don’t understand, but I think I may just not be seeing what it is clearly. I am digging her mirror sunglasses though.
I know Janey is smart but when did she learn how to hotwire a security system? It’s not like Google or Youtube existed, and I doubt there was a library book about how to dismantle that specific system. MYTH BUSTED.
Oh god oh no I’m so gay for these Dixon sisters from Kansas City, these two gorgeous black women in tuxes and spandex leotards. They 100% should have won this dance contest.
Why did guys stop wearing crop tops? Can we bring back slutty quarterback as a fashion trend for dudes? Seriously, the costume design here is everything.
I really love Jeff and his little family - his sister and his dad are so proud of him and supportive. You never see that in dance narratives featuring guys. I like the reversal here of gendered expectations.
Did I Cry? No, but my heart was warmed at various moments.
Honestly, why can’t more narrative arcs in movies be solved via dance battle?
Lynne Fashion Alert: She’s now dressed as...Cleopatra? Wait why the fuck is there a horse here?
Oh that’s it that’s the end! Man, you can’t be mad at a tight 90 min film like this - it gets in, it gets out, bing bang boom you’re done with enough time to read before bed.
Is this a cinematic masterpiece? No. But is it good clean fun? Absolutely. Barring the brief [obligatory 80s] sexual harassment scene, there’s very little to be upset with here. Kids wanna dance, they’re told they can’t dance, they dance anyway! It’s the power of dance! You’re either into it or you’re not, but if you’re not, I ask that you search your heart and try to find one teeny tiny sliver of joy inside it. You’re gonna need to feed that joy if you wanna make it through 2021, and watching this movie is a darn good place to start.

By Guy Kelly 17 JANUARY 2020 • 8:00PM
He became a bona-fide teen pop superstar as part of One Direction, then suffered unthinkable personal loss. Louis Tomlinson talks to Guy Kelly about fame, family and what comes next.
Louis Tomlinson took part in an online video recently, in which he was tasked with answering the internet’s most-searched questions about him. It was fairly tame, as you might expect of a pop quiz thrown at a pop star. ‘How do you pronounce Louis Tomlinson?’ the first read. There’s an interesting answer to that, actually, but we’ll come to it. ‘How old is Louis Tomlinson?’ was the second. He’s 28. And then came the third. ‘How is Louis Tomlinson?’
In the video, the man himself looks a little bewildered, dismissing the query as ‘random’ before moving on. But underneath, in the YouTube comments – one of the few nooks of the internet where love and goodwill still thrives – a fan repeated it. ‘“How is Louis Tomlinson,”’ they wrote, ‘the only question that matters.’ More than 7,000 people ‘liked’ it.
Given all Tomlinson’s been through in the past four years, it seems reasonable to ask. In 2016, the band he’d been in man and boy, One Direction, went on an indefinite hiatus after six years. Since being welded together by Simon Cowell on The X Factor in 2010, ‘1D’ had enjoyed perhaps the most stratospheric rise in music (five platinum albums, four world tours) since The Beatles. It hadn’t been Tomlinson’s decision to break up the band, and he wasn’t – still isn’t – particularly happy about it.
[complete article below the cut]
In December of that year, his beloved mother, Johannah Deakin, died a few months after being diagnosed with leukaemia. She was 43. Tomlinson pressed on with his nascent solo career, but unimaginable tragedy struck again. In March 2019, his 18-year-old half-sister, Félicité, was found unconscious at her flat in London and couldn’t be revived. An inquest later found she had died of an accidental drug overdose. Again, he buckled down, looked after his remaining siblings, and committed himself to finishing his debut album.
Settling down with Tomlinson in the corner of a west London photo studio, then, it seems as good a place as any to start: how is he?
‘I’m good, mate, I’m feeling good,’ he says, spreading his arms across a sofa. After wearing a series of high-end outfits for our photo shoot (‘I never feel super-comfortable on shoots; I’ve got one f—king pose – moody’), he’s in a black ’90s-inspired collared jumper, black trousers and black trainers.
He pushes his fringe to one side. The Doncaster accent, which softened in his 1D days, is back to pure, unfettered South Yorks. It’s all ‘in t’band’, ‘I didn’t know owt’, and swearing like a navvy. He’s honest, funny, and if his feet were planted any more firmly on the ground he’d be unable to walk.
I tell him about the YouTube comment, which seems to reflect the genuine care his fans have for him.
‘Ah, yeah I know, they’re considerate, they are. We’ve got a special, interesting bond. They’ve grown up with me – and I’ve been through some personal stuff and they’ve always been there for me.’
Tomlinson’s album, Walls, has been a long time coming. Immediately after One Direction split, he released a couple of singles – dance-y pop collaborations – which were fine, but not what he wanted to make. Halfway through writing Walls he realised, ‘If I’m chasing radio with every song I write, I’m not going to be doing this job for very long.’
So he relaxed, and the result is a mix of strong, melody-driven pop of the kind One Direction mastered, and what Tomlinson is really into, namely guitar-driven indie and Britpop. Some songs for the fans; some nodding to the future.
‘It’s a five-album plan. There’s bits where I’ve been almost selfish, and bits where I’ve been respectful to the fan base and what they love listening to,’ he says. ‘Then the next will be a step closer to the stuff I want to make. But I’ve got to earn my stripes.’
The dominant theme, I say, appears to be resilience. On the single Don’t Let It Break Your Heart, he advises, ‘Even when it hurts like hell / Oh, whatever tears you apart / Don’t let it break your heart.’ On the rousing title track (which features a writing credit for Noel Gallagher, who gave his blessing for a chorus strikingly similar to an Oasis tune), he sings, ‘These high walls that broke my soul / I watched all come falling down.’
It could be to do with grief, professional struggles, or his relationship – he’s happily with his girlfriend, 27-year-old fashion blogger Eleanor Calder, but they’ve been on and off over the years. He nods.
‘Yeah, I write very autobiographically and had so much going on in my head, but in the struggle I’m trying to paint the message that you’re always left with a choice: to see the glass half-full or half-empty. It’s showing there’s hope.’
Some songwriters have found grief productive, others paralysing. Tomlinson was the former. One track on Walls is the previously released Two of Us, a beautiful, simple song written about his mum (‘You’ll never know how much I miss you / The day that they took you, I wish it was me instead’).
‘What’s amazing about this job is that regardless of the situation, you get something positive at the end of it. That’s obviously an emotionally heavy song for me, but fans have come up to me in floods of tears and talked about how it’s helped in their own tragedy. It’s incredible. From the dark, you can give hope.’
For the first three years of his life, Tomlinson was raised alone by Johannah, who split from his father, Troy Austin, when he was a baby. They lived above a launderette in Doncaster, where his mother worked multiple jobs, principally as a midwife, before she married Mark Tomlinson, a van salesman who became Louis’s stepfather. The three moved into a two-up, two-down, which was soon filled with half-sisters: Lottie, now 21, Félicité, then twins Daisy and Phoebe, now 16.
‘It was mad. They’re manic, young girls…’ he says. ‘Mum and Mark had a decent income but they couldn’t spread it around [a family of] seven. At times things were really good, you’d get 20 quid in a birthday card, but others were really difficult. I remember the electricity meter – you’d get five quid on the house as an emergency when you couldn’t top it up. Sometimes it’d be a gamble when it’d run out…’
Tomlinson wasn’t particularly academic – ‘though I’m not daft or owt’ – but loved school. There, he joined a band at 16 and found he was OK at singing, so he applied to audition for The X Factor. He failed, twice, but succeeded on the third try, in 2010, performing a fairly terrible (he admits it) version of Plain White T’s Hey There Delilah.
A few months later, at the ‘bootcamp’ stage, Cowell had the idea of creating a band comprised of Tomlinson and four other solo boys: Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne. They were to be called One Direction. Tomlinson, who’d been intimidated by the standard of other vocalists in the competition, ‘bit their hand off’ at the offer. ‘I was like, “This is my ticket.”’
The show came just after his second run at the first year of his A levels. He’d failed the first time, with UUE in psychology, PE and English, which his mum had ‘absolutely ripped [his] head off’ for. The second time he’d gone one better, UEE. So he lied, telling her he got a smattering of Ds, and came up with a plan.
‘I waited until after the X Factor final, when we were all sat around drinking champagne, and told her, “By the way, I bulls—tted you on those results. I failed again, but hopefully we’ll be all right now…”’ he laughs. ‘She was fine. I picked my moment well.’
One Direction came third in the final, losing to runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle, a former painter-decorator who now performs in the West End. But it was always felt that the group would go furthest, not least because Cowell was such a supporter (all the other boys have now left his record label, Syco, but because ‘loyalty is the biggest thing’ for Tomlinson, he’s stayed).
Eighteen when the group started, Tomlinson was the oldest member (the others were 16 and 17), ‘just allowed to drink, just allowed to drive’, but suddenly everything in his life was controlled.
‘You’re ready to be reckless and stupid, but then I was in the band and couldn’t ever act like that, especially not publicly,’ he says. They went on their first headline concert tour in 2011, and soon had fans surrounding their hotels overnight, wherever in the world they went. Naturally, they embraced partying.
‘There was a good 18 months where I was going out all the time. The press love to write about that as if it’s this chaotic thing, and at times it was, but it’s also an escape. Once you have a couple of drinks down you in a club, you’re just someone in the club, part of everyone else, and not everyone is looking at you.’
Even when he was away, he kept in contact with his mum by phone – or in person, when she could join him – as much as possible. The two were impossibly close: she had access to his emails; he told her when he lost his virginity; she knew about his finances.
‘One thing I’ve learnt since losing her is that any decision, even if I knew the answer, I’d call her,’ he says. ‘I didn’t realise how reliant I’d become on her. That was the hardest thing for me, understanding that living life after meant making decisions on my own. I thought I’d always have a sounding board. There was a different level of credibility with my mum, because I idolised her.’
Styles has recently joked that One Direction were ‘grown in test tubes’ by Cowell, but Tomlinson insists that part of their appeal lay in the fact that they all had their own personalities and talents, which weren’t forced on them. Still, it took him years to know where he fitted. Styles was cool, a heart-throb. Malik was moody and mysterious. Horan was cute and Irish. Payne was whatever Payne was. But Tomlinson wasn’t sure.
‘You’ve got to be dead cocky in Doncaster to survive – it’s either that or be picked on. So I used to walk around with a chip on my shoulder. But I’d always been the funny guy, centre of attention, so I never struggled to make mates,’ he says. ‘It was weird suddenly being in a situation where one or two members are constantly in a better position. It took me a while to understand my strengths. I was the oldest and it wasn’t until the third album when I made it my mission to write the most.’
He succeeded: Tomlinson’s writing credit appears on 39 of the 96 songs One Direction recorded, four more than Payne and dozens more than the rest. But it was intense. There were times when he considered quitting the band, if only to allow him to escape the attention, but he likens that to children running away from home. ‘By the time you get halfway down the street you regret it and go back…’
‘Directioners’ were ‘fanatical’ about the boys, to a frequently absurd degree. And not every encounter was surreally funny. The year after the hiatus began, in 2017, Tomlinson and Calder were involved in a scuffle with paparazzi and fans at the airport in LA. Fists possibly flew, and Tomlinson was arrested, only for no further action to be taken. The fans now are still loyal, still ardent, but they’ve matured with him.
What kept him grounded, as the money rolled in (I have heard that each of the boys amassed a £40 million fortune from the band, and that collectively they still earn around £38,000 a week from royalties, merchandise and so on) and the fans bayed, was keeping friends from Doncaster around. When I arrived at today’s photo shoot, Tomlinson was busy doing his singular pose at one end of the room, while at the other, near the free pastries, a young redheaded bloke in a tracksuit lurked, scrolling through his phone.
He introduced himself as Oli, Tomlinson’s ‘mate from Donny’, who has spent the better part of a decade travelling the world with his pop-star friend, and seems to operate as a walking comfort blanket. They live together when Tomlinson’s in LA, where he has a three-year-old son, Freddie, from a short relationship with stylist Briana Jungwirth.
They also live together when he’s in London, along with Calder, to whom it was recently reported that Tomlinson is engaged (his representatives denied the rumour). I imagine there’s space for house guests wherever he is, though: it has been reported that he put his Hollywood Hills mansion on the market last year for $6.995 million, and the previous year valued another property in California at $13.999 million, after apparently renting it out for $40,000 per month.
‘I’m hoping to do a bit of work with Louis’s tour manager this year,’ Oli says, cheerfully. I later discover he’s so ever-present with Tomlinson that he even has his own fan accounts on social media.
‘I remember bringing a mate out for our first US tour. He called from his hotel with his mind blown by being able to pick up a phone and they’d just bring you food,’ Tomlinson says. ‘I go back to Donny and hear heavy s—t – struggles with jobs, money, family, health. That humbles me, and gives me a better emotional intelligence.’
He reckons ‘eight out of 10 people have an ulterior motive’ when they meet him. Luckily he can tell if someone’s a pre-fame friend. His name is pronounced ‘Loo-ee’, but he wasn’t keen on it as a child, so had mates, like Oli, pronounce it ‘Lewis’, which they still do. Unfortunately Cowell guessed at ‘Loo-ee’ on The X Factor, so that was that for the stage name.
By 2015, some members of One Direction felt an itch to break off – or just have a break – and try their own thing. Malik had gone in March, and while a full split seemed inevitable, Tomlinson was still caught off-guard.
‘I was f—king fuming at first. We were working really hard – people [namely, Payne] have said overworked, but we weren’t overworked, that’s just what happens when you’re a band that size, though I understand. I thought I’d mentally prepared myself for a break, but it hit me hard.’
He was finally feeling comfortable in the band, and hadn’t thought about a solo career.
‘About a week after, I sat there thinking, “Strike while the iron’s hot,” but I wasn’t ready. I was bitter and angry, I didn’t know why we couldn’t just carry on. But now, even though I don’t fully understand everyone’s individual reasons, I respect them.’
They’re ostensibly all still mates, despite going in radically different musical directions, though some are closer than others. Tomlinson seems to mention Horan with most affection, and the pair performed at the same event in Mexico in November, titillating 1D fans by sound-checking together with one of the band’s old songs.
If it was up to you, I ask, would the group still be going? He considers this for a moment.
‘It if was up to me, yeah. I’d maybe have said, “Let’s have a year off.” But yeah, probably. I’m sure there’s a better analogy out there but it’s a bit like [shutting down] Coca-Cola. You don’t say, “Right, let’s hang the boots up on that,” because it’s a massive thing.’
Afterwards he muddled around for a bit, including releasing those early singles – one of which he performed on The X Factor, rigid with grief, just days after his mum’s death. Then he returned to the show last year as a judge, alongside Cowell, Robbie Williams and Williams’s wife, Ayda Field.
Did he get on with Robbie? He smiles, arching an eyebrow. ‘Why do you ask?’ Well, he came out of a boy band, went solo…
‘Oh, yeah, he was all right. He’s a good man, we were just different from each other. Certain moments I thought, “F—king hell, Robbie, just sit down for five minutes, I’ve got something to say.” I love his missus though, Ayda, she’s sound.’
Tomlinson liked mentoring, and during our conversation it becomes clear he’s fuelled by responsibility. He was the oldest sibling in his house, and although Mark Tomlinson and Johannah’s second husband (after divorcing Mark in 2011, she married Dan Deakin in 2014; they had twins Ernest and Doris) are still around, he became a paternal figure after she died. He’s particularly involved in the lives of Daisy and Phoebe, to whom he’s ‘a kind of second parent’.
‘Without being too soppy, I like looking after people, it’s cool. At the moment I’m stressing trying to convince Daisy and Phoebe to go to sixth form. They’ve been to private school near Donny, and it’s proper expensive. I’m paying for it thinking they’re staying on, but now they don’t want to go. I told them education is important. I’m like, “You’re 16, you haven’t got a f—king idea what the real world is,”’ he says.
‘What’s difficult about those two is they’ve only known the 1D craziness. They’ve grown up in this elitist way, which is very different from my upbringing and Lottie’s, and the values my mum taught us.’
He gives a ‘kids, eh?’ sigh. ‘Consistency is the big thing. I’m trying to get better at being in their heads enough so they think, “I wonder if Louis thinks this is a good idea?”’
Lottie lives in Hackney, east London. When she was a teenager, Tomlinson got her a job assisting One Direction’s make-up artist, and within a few years she’d become a ridiculously popular Instagrammer (currently with 3.4 million followers, still 10 million shy of Louis). Her big brother told her Instagram’s fine, but she must ‘become a proper businesswoman’ in case the bubble bursts. In 2018 she launched Tanologist, a successful fake-tan brand.
‘I’m so proud of her. She’s just been in Australia, where she’s stocked in Melbourne’s version of Boots!’ Tomlinson says, beaming.
Félicité, known to the family as Fizz, was also a budding Instagrammer. After her death last March, a post-mortem revealed ‘toxic’ levels of anti-anxiety and pain medications, as well as cocaine, in her blood. Six months later, an inquest heard that she had visited her GP in August 2018 and ‘gave a history of recreational drug use… on a consistent basis since the death of her mother’. She had taken overdoses and been admitted to a rehabilitation clinic.
Tomlinson hesitates to say anything was ‘easier’, comparing the deaths of Félicité and his mum, as ‘both felt very individual, and hit me with a big impact… but I think dealing with the family, how I can be there for them, that was a lot easier the second time because the first time I was grieving and didn’t know what to say. As time went on I grew to understand what to say to my sisters.’
Prioritising the feelings of your sisters in the immediate aftermath is understandable, I say, but I wonder if anyone took care of you. He looks surprised.
‘No, but friends and family, my best mate, my girlfriend, my son… I feel their support but I get most out of doing stuff for other people. I don’t say that to sound like a good guy, it’s genuinely what gives me strength.’
Did you ever consider grief therapy?
‘Nah, a lot of people recommended it but I’m a little bit old-fashioned when it comes to therapy. I’m sure it’s incredible, but I thought I’d be all right, and I have been till now.’ One of his many tattoos consists of the words ‘It Is What It Is’ across his chest. ‘I know the things I’ve been upset about in my life are s—t, but I can’t change them, so you have to make the best of what you’ve got.’
What he’s got is an album to launch, a world tour to prep for and, immediately, a flight to catch. He and Oli are off to see Freddie. ‘When I’m working I definitely don’t see him enough,’ Tomlinson says, ‘but he looks just like me, which is cool. I’m excited to see his big smile.’
Tomlinson gives his own big smile. Our time’s nearly up, and he’d like a cigarette. After all you’ve been through, I tell him, people would have understood if you’d called it a day. You could have lived off royalties, enjoyed a quiet life with Calder, Freddie, your sisters.
‘Definitely, definitely. But do you know what? It didn’t cross my mind once. I somehow have an inability to worry, and just get on with things,’ he says, shrugging. ‘It’s definitely made me stronger. I’ve gone through every emotion, and I’m just f—king excited now.’
I think we have an answer. How is Louis Tomlinson? Hopefully, he’ll be just fine.
Walls is released on 31 January

STEP 2: Pick what you want to create! You can obviously do more than one thing, but what do you want to start off with? Screencaps, RP icons, GIF packs, masterlists, PNG’s, fancasts, alternative FC’s - LITERALLY anything you desire!
STEP 3: Look back on tasks that we have created previously for tutorials on the thing you are creating unless you have whatever it is you are doing mastered - then of course feel free to just get on and do it. :)
STEP 4: Upload and tag with #TASKSWEEKLY! If you didn’t use your own screencaps/images make sure to credit where you got them from as we will not reblog packs which do not credit caps or original gifs from the original maker.
THINGS YOU CAN MAKE FOR THIS TASK -  examples are linked!
Stumped for ideas? Maybe make a masterlist or graphic of your favourite faceclaims. A masterlist of names. Plot ideas or screencaps from a music video preformed by an artist. Masterlist of quotes and lyrics that can be used for starters, thread titles or tags. Guides on culture and customs.

10 Songs Meme
Tagged by @hxhhasmysoul.  I believe I’m supposed to list 10 songs from a playlist and say something about each song but all my playlists (on Youtube - mostly Kpop) are at least a year old ^^;;;
So instead, I figured I'd list 10 songs I like to sing. These would be Karaoke Songs, but a lot of them are deep cuts and not on any karaoke machine ^^;;; So instead they are Shower Songs.
Looking over this list, my taste becomes clear:
1) I like codependent two songwriter bands; and especially those bands with rich creative partnerships and lots of extra-musical material for fans to obsess over. When it comes to some things, like books, I'm a fox and I read widely across a lot of different genres; but when it comes to music I'm a serial hedgehog and I just get OBSESSED with a band and devour everything about them for weeks and months and sometimes years at a time.
2) I like songs with interesting, somewhat old-fashioned melodies that are fun to sing and have good/interesting harmony parts.
3) I like songs that are openly and earnestly emotional. In real life, I'm fairly restrained (and in my writing too I think - lots of restraint and understatement). But man life is too short to not embrace your strongest emotions in music.
Anyway here's the list, behind a cut because I wrote a lot LOLOL:
***
Jayhawks - Blue.
My first bandom! This is not my favorite song of theirs off this album BTW – that would be Real Light or Over my Shoulder – but it’s the quickest and easiest way to explain their Codepence Aesthetic, including the way their voices blend (called The Univoice by fans) and in the visuals of the music video (twins). Their other well-known song in this vein, BTW, is Two Angels - the song that got them signed to American Records by Rick Rubin, who produced this album.
Anyway I am a SUPER fan of this group. I was on the forums back in the days when we used to, get this, trade physical CDs of live recordings in the mail – both because the lossless audio files were too large to upload, and also because the band disapproved of online music sharing. They’ve reversed this stance, or at least Gary Louris has, and you can find hundreds and hundreds of high-quality live recordings online now.
This is a band that (like the Libertines) played live for seven years before getting signed; they have tons and tons of material that never made it onto their studio album, but that fans recorded, organized and passed around.
***
Green Day - When It’s Time
This is actually RJ’s first obsessive band, not mine (though like many people my age, I owned all their records and I can sing pretty much every major label release of theirs from memory). Green Day have a really distinctive sense of melody and their songs are REALLY fun to sing. This is a relatively unknown but amazing song that RJ covers out a lot at shows and that always gets a positive response. People may not realize this but Green Day draws from a lot of influence outside of the pop punk genre including 50s do-woop and you can hear it in this song; also in Brutal Love, another song that’s REALLY fun to sing.
***
Brooks and Dunn - Neon Moon
This will sound corny but I think one of the reasons RJ and I work as a couple is because we have very compatible taste in music... one of the things we both like is the 90s country revival, though RJ likes more mainstream country and I like alt-country like the Jayhawks, Wilco, Sun Volt, etc. Anyway I came to my Jayhawks love as a preteen because my mom also liked them; and RJ likes Brooks and Dunn because his dad also liked them.
This is a singer-songwriter pair of the type that’s actually pretty common in country music. @Minimoonstar’s sister Lucinda, who used to work for Touchtunes, told me that country is one of the easiest genres of music to license because there are generally only two music credits on each song – the person who wrote the music and the person who wrote the lyrics. (The hardest genre to license, by the way, is rap – due to the politics of the scene generally **EVERYONE** who worked on a track has a songwriting credit).
***
Cranberries - Linger
Another beautiful song with beautiful harmonies that RJ and I both like. I actually don’t have too much to say about this except that it is perfect, XD, and I really want to learn how to do the harmony part properly.
***
Fastball - Falling Upstairs
Actually this is not the fastball song I sing the most - that would be Til I Get It Right or maybe Halfway Girl or The Feeling is Gone  - but I figured I’d share this  since it’s probably not the sound most people associate with Fastball, the late-90s “One Hit Wonder Band” who wrote The Way, Out of My Head, You’re an Island and Fire Escape.
After I broke up with my first girlfriend, I was depressed for about nine months and I listened to this band constantly. Their discography is a lot deeper than a lot of people know and they are a two-songwriter band, which if you guys haven’t figured out by now is a Thing for me.
(Though in the case of Fastball, it’s more like these two songwriters just happened to share a band that just happened to get really big; in their two big label releases before they called it quits and put out a best-of CD to get out of their contract, the writing credits would actually alternate, Tony-Miles-Tony-Miles. That gives you an idea of the tensions that may or may not have existed in this band at that time, though they ALSO ended up reforming a few years later and these days they seem to get back together every summer to hit the festival circuit, recently with Sugar Ray.)
Anyway a co-written song I really like from them is She’s Got the Rain which is Beatles-inspired. You guys will be doing yourself a favor if you check out their discography and particularly, the live recordings on ytube and the Internet Archive. They are REALLY fun to sing, probably my favorite group to sing actually, the melodies are just so good.
***
Crowded House - Catherine Wheels
One of the reasons I got so into Fastball when I was having a hard time is that I had a mix CD in my car that was put together by me and my high school friends when we graduated. It had 1-2 tracks from each of us on it... I can’t remember what I put on there, possibly Social Distortion and the Walkman’s The Rat? I got a lot of my music from the livejournal community FST (fan sountrack) back then and I remember The Rat was from a Fruit’s Basket FST where all the songs had the names of an animal from the zodiac in the title.  Anyway. My best friend in high school, V,  put some Fastball songs on that mix CD and so this band had immense nostalgic value for me, even though I didn’t get really into them until later.
And this is another example of that – V left her Together Alone CD in my car and later when I was depressed I just listened to that CD on repeat. Crowded House are maybe not the trendiest group on this list but the harmonies (with the now-late drummer, who I think a lot of these songs are about actually) are really beautiful. Also, all the songs on this CD are written with tremendous empathy for difficult personalities, something I could sympathize with at the time.
***
Linkin Park - Waiting for the End
What does it say about me that so many of the songs on this list are other people’s favorite songs?  XD;;; Anyway, this was a song that a girl I lived with England really liked and would play a lot.  That was an intense relationship.  Yeah.  We eventually lost touch because I’m not good at email.  I hope she’s doing well today.
My favorite Linkin Park album is Living Things; I like Burn it Down, Castle of Glass and Roads Untraveled.
***
GDTOP - Oh Yeah
And now for something different XD. This is a side-project by the two rappers in the idol group Big Bang. Since I don’t speak Korean, I wrote English lyrics for this and I sing this song often whenever I’m in a good mood. It really captures the feeling of overflowing and overwhelming happiness (but not quite tipping into like a mixed or unpleasantly racing manic state).
BTW for those of you who didn’t know, I was a ***huge*** Big Bang fan years.  My first girlfriend liked them and this is one of the most codependent Kpop idol groups ever. Some other songs I wrote English lyrics for and sing often are Heaven (a song that’s so overwhelming & ecstatically happy, it burns itself out into sadness before the first verse is even over); Tonight (a song about mania and inter-band drama that’s mixed to already sound like it’s coming from the biggest group in the world; plus Gdragon toured the entire album in a skirt <3); Sunset Glow (a cover/remix and probably their best song); Of All Days (depressive TOP single) and Friend (TOP and Taeyang single for a movie soundtrack that also had the TOP-GD-Taeyang single Halleluyah on it; all songs about missing friends that were written while the band was taking a break to do solo projects).
These songs capture the cycle of burning up, burning out, breaking up and regretting perfectly; and also a variety of very complex and extreme emotional states. I listen to them so I can understand myself and other people, you know? And they are still great; I don’t care how much of criminal scumbag Seungri turned out to be.
***
B2ST - Midnight
I was never that into B2ST but this song is just undeniably great XD. It really captures that mixed-state aesthetic that defined the early B2ST (and Big Bang) discography - a specific mix of mania and sadness that I think Kpop does a lot better than American pop.
Although I didn’t follow B2ST, I did follow Shinsadong Tiger, the composer on this track. In fact most of my Kpop fandom (after I had watched all the Big Bang videos) consisted of obsessively following composers from project to project – so Shinsadong Tiger, Brave Brothers, Sweetune, etc. This was quite easy to do as all of these composers had large followings and often, singles would be advertised as “The new Brave Brothers single” and not “The New single from X idol group”.
I also liked the house composers from the Big 3 companies - Kush (not Teddy) from YG, Jinyoung Park from JYP Entertainment, Yoo Youngjin from SM Entertainment. And “hitman” Bang who produced the (excellent) first T-ara album and who’s probably better known now as the CEO of Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’ company.
If you guys want receipts let me know, I know a lot about this LOL.
***
Libertines - All At Sea
We’re going for the deep cuts here, guys. ^^;;; Of all the rabbit-hole codependent bands I ever got obsessed with, this rabbit hole was probably the deepest, darkest and most all-consuming. For instance, I sometimes worried about the members Big Bang killing themselves once they were no longer in the spotlight; but with this band you would wake up every day half-expecting Pete or Carl to be dead.
People who say “fiction doesn’t affect reality”... well first of all they don’t really mean it, and secondly they were never obsessive Libertines fans. ^^;;; This is a band for whom the line between fiction and reality was blurry at best; and besides that they were active online at the very beginning of the social web and used to post all kinds of deeply personal stuff about themselves on the band’s forums where the fans could read them and post their fan-theories, which the band would then read and act out.
Some other really great Libs deep cuts would be Half Cocked Boy, Plan A and Smashing. You can hear the variety of influences and especially the 50s skittle and French cinema influences here.
If you really wanna understand the process of going down the rabbit hole with this band, BTW... well I don’t know if I’d recommend it actually, though everyone is still alive and in therapy so yay happy ending? But my friend Sabina who was my partner in crime during this time wrote about the experience at One Week One Band here.
***
Patti Loveless - Lead the Parade
Another artist RJ likes and that I like a lot, too. Though I think this album is probably a little too cleanly produced for my (current) aesthetic, like the Brooks and Dunn albums. But this is just a really beautiful song (and another song I really really really wanna learn the harmony parts for).
This song also has personal meaning for RJ; but that's not my story to tell.
***
Bonus:
Tim Hardin - Reason to Believe (Jayhawks cover)
Probably the most frequently-covered codependency song of all time.

The Beauty Industry Profits on your Unhappiness
In 4,000 BC, historians traced the first ever beauty product - kohl eyeliner that the Egyptians used to create dramatic eye looks. Social media emerged in the 1970s when the internet really transpired in this time period. These days, the beauty industry and social media have seen immense growth. The beauty industry is appraised to be worth above 15 billion Euros, and social media is expected double in growth in the next few years - with Snapchat and Instagram being in the lead for most users.
The beauty industry has always had problems - especially when it came to women's' expectations. Feminist movements have always admonished the use of makeup - as most women felt rigid feminine expectations were being pushed on them. In recent years, makeup was seen in a different light - as a way for women to express their creative side, to feel good about themselves, and that despite wearing makeup - they should always be respected not as women but as people.
However, makeup and the use of social media is being viewed in a critical lens once again.
Social media is a double-edged sword in the 21st century; what was seen as a way to open doors, connect with like-minded individuals, research topics, and have educational discussions over an online platform. However, the curse that lies in social media is how accessible we have become - with a lack of privacy and a fast-paced environment, many users are feeling fatigued and dissatisfied with their social media use and accounts. Social media in its infancy celebrated creativity and open-ended dialogue between users from all over the world, but now with marketing changing along with our online communications - social media has quickly turned into a virtual department store where products, ideologies, and misinformation are at the ready.
The beauty industry and social media are now seemingly joined at the hip with more companies using influencer marketing strategy. Here is where the article gets ugly.
I'm not going to pretend that beauty ideal, marketing, and social media were not an issue before - I'm sure women in my generation back then felt the pressures as much as the women of this generation do - but back then, the beauty industry was not in our faces 24/7. I myself as a young girl barely read any magazine articles concerning beauty, and I wasn't interested in fashion, or any notion of performative femininity. And my friend would tend to agree, back then we were free to be kids. I didn't even start wearing eyeliner until I was seventeen years old, and even if I did wear eyeliner it was because my mother forced me to because it was a holiday. Even if you Google teenage celebs in the 90s to early 2000s and compare to teenage celebs in 2014 - 2018 - you can definitely see a difference in how the beauty industry and the beauty standards have changed. Young girls today are feeling more and more pressure to look a certain way that young girls in my generation ever did.
And the consequences of these societal expectations are causing teens to not only become prematurely depressed, but body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and self-objectification is on the rise.
Tweens, teenagers and young adults who are interested in makeup all follow at least one social media mogul - usually its' Kylie Jenner, Jaclyn Hill, Tati Westbrook, or any other celebrity such as Ariana Grande. The beauty of social media was that it allowed users to have complete control over their image and use promotion as their means to get funding. Each day, as I scroll on my phone, I often see women with long, incredibly toned legs, plump breasts, pouty lips, chiselled cheekbones, flat tummies and perfectly, rounded buttocks. The comments on each one of their photo and captions is fans wishing to look like them, often chastising their own appearance whilst praising their looks and ask for dieting tips, look tips, fashion tips.
As influencers share their dieting tips to look the way they do, this is seen as an honest way to connect with their audience and provide insight.
Unfortunately, this is not what happens.
The problem with the beauty industry is that it heavily relies on false representations and unrealistic standards. An Instagram model or even a well-known celebrity will post on their social media the secret to their physique and over-all look - and usually that "secret" comes in the form of detox teas that are filled with laxatives and dangerous ingredients, diet pills that have not been properly researched, or whatever snake oil they needed to push on impressionable young women. In reality, this is farther from the truth. Kylie Jenner was one of the celebrities to promote a laxative-based tea that can induce gastrointestinal problems later in life, but it is well known that Kylie Jenner, American socialite and TV personality, has been very open about retouching her photos, undergoing cosmetic surgery, and even has a personal gym and trainer within her residence. The same can be said for Kendall Jenner, sister of Kylie Jenner, who was recently criticized for becoming a spokesperson for ProActive, claiming it was the sole cure to her acne. Mostly because, a few short months earlier in 2018, Kylie Jenners' dermatologist explained that the cure for Kendall Jenner's acne-problem was a mix of well-formulated skincare products that were not ProActive and a laser treatment.
Los-Angeles based makeup artist Jordan Liberty stated on his Instagram stories that a models' job was not to look attractive, but it was to sell products by using her facial muscles and body. A models' job is to always promote merchandise - and recently the beauty industry has been taking models to promote unrealistic beauty standards and the quick fixes and products to attain that level of beauty.
The problem with the products that most models becomes a spokesperson for is that none of these products promotes a healthy lifestyle. As I have mentioned, many diet-based teas often have laxative ingredients that will damage the intestinal system and can cause serious dehydration to a young girls' body.  Not to mention, that by utilizing hashtags such as 'thinspo' and 'body goals', including the high amounts of re-touching and intricate makeup placements to allow the model to look thinner, healthy and well-toned, often leads young women to negative thought patterns, depression and body dissatisfaction.
In 2016, Fardouly and Vartanian researched the high-rise of social media and the correlation of body image concerns, and they found that users with more appearance exposure suffer a lot more from weight dissatisfaction, drive for thinness, and thin-idealisation. They concluded that social media does indeed impact teenagers appearance concerns. Dr Helen Sharpe was quoted by The Guardian and she stated that most teenage girls resort to unhealthy weight loss practices, such as skipping meals, smoking, and lower levels of physical activities. Social media such as snapchat and Instagram are even damaging to young women due to filters and facial-reorganising that occurs on both apps - thus giving an overall distortion of ones' appearance. Time Magazine even reported on Snapchat causing self-esteem issues, dubbed as 'snapchat dysmorphia', plastic surgeons are writing that there is a surge in clients wanting to look like their filters, with bigger eyes, thinner noses, and fuller lips. They describe such a trend alarming since those filters are meant to be an unattainable facial structure and the lines between fantasy and reality are slowly blurring. Plastic surgeons are also arguing that these apps are making people lose touch with reality, and are expecting to look perfectly prim in real life.
Accounts such as @celeblife have taken upon themselves to remove editing, plastic surgery and enhancements to show users before and after shots of the models in question. These accounts are not there to ridicule the celebs or poke fun at their bodily enhancement, but really it is to remind users that at the end of the day social media is just smoke and mirrors. None of it is real. The images that we see, the videos that we observe - they're all scripted, edited, filtered, and processed.
The Beauty Industry will let people - especially impressionable young women - fight to attain those unrealistic beauty standards - but all the industry is doing is leaving a sea of depressed young women in its' wake. All the industry does is prey on women's' insecurities and fear by pushing and pushing products to make them 'selfie ready' or 'life-ready'. I myself as a woman have often skipped going to social events because I didn't want to put on makeup, or wouldn't even call my friend using video because I wasn't wearing makeup.
Accounts like @celebself and beauty influencers like Samantha Ravandahl, a Canadian Youtuber, talking about what it truly means to sell product - citing that brands sent over scripts instructing her to claim that no other product has helped her as much as this one - Ravandahl stated that she could not cooperate with the brand because at the end, she did not want to lie to her audience. Ravandahl recently talked about no longer receiving product launches from brands and wants to return to her authentic, educational roots than constantly act as an advertiser. These accounts and outspoken, honest influencers may remind us not to be so hard on ourselves, and that at the end of the day, we're admiring a tiny, unattainable fraction of reality.
So, if you're a young girl reading this and you're worried about the way you look - I can't tell you “don't be” as we both know these things are harder to shake off, but I can only remind you that everything on social media is glamorized and even if you do not look like the models on Instagram - you're still beautiful, worthy of respect, intelligent and you should give yourself more time and credit.

[TRANS] NCT DREAM Interview for 'Singles' October 2018 Issue!
Tumblr media
The boys who entered the studio door were refreshing. All glowing with their comeback just ahead, they soon filled the room with good energy. NCT Dream consisting of teenage members of NCT. This year marks 2 years since their debut and the teenagers are steadily growing since. In the meantime they’ve grown more than one inch, and their attitude towards music has gotten more serious. Their mini album <We Go Up> showcases that the desire for dreams and high spirits of these hot-as-ever boys have remained untouched since promoting ‘Go’ from <NCT 2018 EMPATHY> only 6 months ago. I looked up their ‘We Go Up’ teaser on youtube as the shoot progressed and from the very beginning it was overflowing with strong beat and rapping. Without anyone prompting them, all seven members started dancing. The boys were shining even brighter, each in their own right. I became curious about NCT Dream’s next stage. I captured these beautiful moments that I may not be able to see again with my camera.
Congratulations on your comeback. Just after today’s interview is done your music will be released digitally. Mark: I’m so nervous. It’s an album that we all really worked hard on. It’s filled with music that we wanted to make so I’m curious how people will listen to it. Jeno: The title track, choreo and the concept itself, I like it all. If until now we showcased a clean and fresh image, then this time I want us to show NCT Dream’s another step of growth through cool and chic energy. Jisung: It would be nice to radiate the teenage energy.
I certainly feel powered up after listening to your title track ‘We Go Up’ earlier.  Mark: That’s what I wanted to hear! Haechan: This album may have a little of a ‘reverse charm’ feeling to it. There’s songs with strong beat and sad, sentimental songs too.
Watching the music video reminds me of 90s street fashion, high teen stars. Mark was born first in ‘99, and the youngest Jisung was born in 2002 (laugh). If you were born during that time what would it be like? Jisung: Right. I’ve been born during the world cup, ‘showed up at the world cup (laugh)’. I can’t imagine the 90s but I’m curious. Chenle: It would be nice if I was born earlier. I bet the weather was nicer since there was less environmental pollution than now. Haechan: When I was watching a movie like <Sing Street> I kind of got a feeling that this is how 90s must’ve been like, I sort of long for the sensitivity of that generation.
Like in the album name, you spend your teenage years together with your members. What was the most memorable moment you spent together? Haechan: Somehow the music video shooting for ‘Go’ in LA was a time like this. It was the first music video I filmed abroad so it was the most memorable. We had the most special and locally famous hotdogs with the members too and it’s something that I won’t forget. Jisung: If I’ll think about this very moment in the future I think it will be my happiest and favourite time. I’m thankful that I can spend such a crucial time as teenage years with good members. Mark: In a way we’re doing what we always wanted to do with friends who we like, it’s that kind of a feeling. I think of it as a blessing. Jaemin: Every second matters. In that sense it’s right now!
I heard that ‘Dear Dream’ is a track dedicated to Mark who is soon graduating from NCT Dream. Since the members took part in writing lyrics, how was the making of the song. Jeno: I was thinking about the 6 years we spent together since trainee days while working on the song. During the process I was thinking a lot what Mark hyung’s presence is in NCT Dream, and for me, personally. Jaemin: The lyrics capture how we wish to stay together even more. Chenle: I didn’t take part in writing lyrics but I felt all sappy and lumpy when recording. Renjun: It’s a song that’s dear to us all. When I was monitoring for the first time after recording tears welled up in my eyes. Jisung: ‘I’ll be your home’ is a part of the lyrics I like the most. Mark: I’m really thankful that they dedicated this song to me. The members worked really hard when making it so I’m touched. Each one conveyed their feelings in such an honest way it’s almost like a letter.
It must be difficult to become an adult when you become so used to parting ways. What will NCT Dream be in 10 years from now? Mark: I wish to gather again in 10 years and just do fun stuff. Jeno: Good! In exactly 10 years we’ll gather again and sing ‘Dear Dream’ and possibly portray different emotions. Jisung: If you want to become an adult quickly you’re still young, and if you want to become young it means you’re an adult. Back in the day I wanted to become an adult quickly. But these days I think differently. When I think about NCT Dream I wish we were in a place like Peter Pan where this time right now would just go on forever. In 10 years I want us to keep the same boyish mindsets like now.
Maknae Jisung is more mature than he looks (laugh). Oh right, let’s hear your thoughts on Jisung’s <Dancing High> appearance. Chenle: I think Jisung will do well. When he’s with us he’s like a baby, but he’s cool when he’s on the stage. Haechan: Right. He looks reserved on the outside but when he’s on the stage he suddenly changes. Jisung: Honestly the first recording made me super nervous. But because I’m representing the name of NCT I had to do my best.
I heard you’re going to have a VLIVE right after the shooting. How does it feel to be able to communicate with your fans through various digital platforms? Jisung: Honestly I wanted to do this a lot for a long time. Although we’re already close with our fans I want us to become even closer and share many stories with them. Jeno: It’s true that there’s so much more ways to communicate compared to back in the day. It would be a problem if we didn’t have such opportunities to communicate with our fans. I’m really grateful that we can communicate in such a nice way. Jaemin: If we could talk to our fans while being able to show our faces directly in the future that would be really nice. Because there are face expressions and things we can’t express through text. It would also be fun to be able to talk to fans all around the world.
Then, is there any content you’d like to try making? Jisung: I want to make videos showing NCT Dream’s everyday life. Filming between ourselves. Mark: We did film an online variety show <NCT Life>, but we didn’t have a chance to film anything as seven dreamies so as Jisung said, it would be nice to film something that shows our everyday life and then broadcast it live. Jeno: I also want to try hosting a radio show with my members. Renjun: For me, it’s a fanmeeting or concert! Sooner or later we’ll be able to meet you all through our ‘NCT Dream Show’ stages.
Lastly, what are your goals for this album promotions? Haechan: These days every moment of every single day feels precious. I just wish that this album promotions will become a cherished memory for our fans and for us, too. Jeno: Until now I liked all albums we did but this one is special so I’m more attached to it. We worked harder than ever when working on it, it has music we usually want to make and the performance is well put together. I want to try to show off our music or NCT Dream’s unusual colours through diverse promotions. Chenle: I want to flaunt our hidden charms that have never been seen before. Jisung: I wish we’d have more opportunities to meet closer with our fans. Renjun: I want to show off the energy NCT Dream has. Jaemin: I plan to do my best and all I can so NCT Dream receives even more love. Mark: Like the message in ‘We Go Up’ says, I want to give an impression that NCT Dream is a team that will always keep growing even without staying. As every end is a new beginning, I want to show NCT Dream’s new chapter. I’m confident about it, so you better count on it too! ♥

honestly, as much as i disliked the butt-rock/nu-metal of the late 90′s and early 00′s, i gotta say a lot of it was pretty interesting, not just in comparison to modern pop music but in general.
1. it showed that the general public COULD reasonably get into heavier guitar based music. think about that? when was the last time you heard a distorted guitar on the radio? i always remember when i was in my pre-teens and seeing bring me to life - evenesence hitting number 1 in the uk charts for 4 weeks (i think) and their next 2 singles even hitting the top 40. that’s kinda unheard of in the last 10 years. the heaviest thing that’s hit the top 40 since then is probably moves like jagger - maroon 5 or drive by - train.
2. it was a good introduction for white people to get into rap/hiphop. by adding hiphop tropes to the genre. for a lot of white people, the only rap they ever heard was the stuff that got play on the charts, which was usually the real pop rap. you had people like fred durst talking about how much they liked snoop dogg and NWA. for many people, that was their gateway into what we now consider classic hiphop/rap. plus many of those bands were also influenced by underground bands. i remember one of the members of linkin park said something along the lines of ‘i wanted hybrid theory to have as much energy as the shape of punk to come - refused’ think how many people went out and bought that album from what was a relatively small band (at the time) from uema in Sweden, then learned about punk rock and activism through that? how many people know about the Armenian genocide through system of a down?
3. some of those songs had more complexity than we care to admit. the song that always comes to mind is chop suey - system of a down. the youtube channel 12tone did a great video about that song but you realise there’s much more going on than you ever realised, which leads me to 4.
4. THE HOOKS ON SOME OF THOSE SONGS STILL STICK WITH YOU. yeah, we can laugh at a lot of it, but there are plenty of songs that if you start singing around your friends, you’ll start a sing along. the example i give is a pub near me (before lockdown) used to have a 1990-2005 music night and every song on that playlist had people singing along. you have not lived until you’ve seen a room of 30 year old jaded millennials clearly just off a 12 hour shift hugging and singing “trust in my self righteous suicide, i cry when angels deserve to die” or “cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort”
5. it showed that teenagers could get into music that was more emotionally complex than we gave it credit for. seriously, if even 1 person decided to seek help because they seen themselves in the lyrics to some of those songs about dealing with thoughts of self harm or abuse, then it’s a good thing. yeah, some of the bands were clearly trying to be edgy but often, that’s the best way to gain attention.
6. fashion. yeah, i’m no expert on fashion but i always thought the fashion from that era was actually really interesting. the punk rock mba has a great video on nu-metal fashion that i highly recommend looking into but think about someone the whole “e-girl/e-boy” fashion and then look at nu-metal fashion. pretty similar. hell, the first time i ever seen chokers/collars was around the height of nu-metal fashion. think how many people wear them nowadays. plus yeah, jnco’s were cheesy as hell but honestly, i kinda miss looser fitting jeans as i get older.
7. i know there’s this joke that it’s music for angry white boys, but honestly, i remember at the time, the split between the fanbase was more towards women, there were also lot’s of women in that scene that were often super talented. not just on the stage but off the stage too. i remember reading that amy lee from evanesence used to make/modify her own clothing. there were often fan sites/blogs run by female fans, my friend emily used to run a limp bizkit fan site, it’s lost to the sands of time but they learned to code through that. fan sites were basically the zines of the 00′s.
8. it set the scene for the big emo explosion of the mid 00′s. yeah, think about that. do you think MCR or FOB would have got half as big as they did if it wasn’t for nu-metal/butt-rock showing the music buying public could get into heavier but emotional music?
while honestly, i’m not the biggest fan of a lot of this stuff, i can appreciate what it did and how it was a stepping stone for many people into the rock scene. sorry for the long post. i felt like it had to be said because i do still see people looking down on a lot of this music and wonder if they even understand the good points.

Contact From Duty 4.
Essential examination from the video game's achievements apart-- go review Kirk's outstanding assessment if you wish among those-- it appears that No Guy's Heavens didn't supply on at least a few from the commitments made through director Sean Murray and also his workers at Hi Gamings. All your beloved jewelry games with their amazing features have been actually compressed right into one amazing solitaire app, Diamond Free Load Get ready to take pleasure in the most effective and most preferred jewelry activities in the Android planet including Klondike Jewelry, Freecell, Golf, Canfield, Forty Burglars, Pyramid, Tripeaks, Crawler, Scorpion Jewelry, and much more. If you are actually rushing Operating System X make certain to set up Java 6 hence as well as Java 7 hence Unbelievable advises uninstalling any other variation of the Android SDK to make sure Unreal Engine is using the appropriate one, as well as while I recommend this if you are actually only heading to make use of Unreal Motor for Android development, I have possessed no problems with contending minimum 3 Android SDKs on my computer system featuring one for Android Studio as well as one for Unreal Engine. You participate in as a hero aiming to 'release' gold from a burial place, but he finds a mask - as well as rashly puts it on. Valiance right here wins the day, since the disguise hands out the wearer with the ability to climb up walls and jump large gaps, offering him a fighting chance from hitting the end from scrolling caverns stuffed along with deadly spikes, guns, and enemies, as well as steering clear of a trespassing beautiful wall structure from death. Take note- Our recommendation would certainly be to put in Google Play Store as well as other companies on your Nokia X when it is dashing model 10.0.3, as opposed to upgrading the phone to software model 11.1.1. This is actually considering that the new method needs the KingoRoot application on your Personal Computer as well as the actions are a bit difficult when as compared to the Framaroot application that functioned all right for our team on our Nokia X. This is actually based off of the application performed through Robert Broglia and includes a bunch of the same components, but that hasn't been upgraded due to the fact that 2013 as well as very likely will not be. The activity does sustain save states, components controllers, and also a really good compatibility cost which need to participate in very most, if not all, Video game Young boy and Game Boy Different colors activities. I would love to possess a contractors mission through which if any kind of home builder finished his work in late evenings or even the moment our company may not open the game to play, our experts could offer him his next job to be finished after the first on ends ... that may be in the building contractor's hut where like garrisons our company could picked just what to update ... The single edges are squares 4 and also 29. The dual corners are actually squares 1 and also 5, as well as 28 and also 32. Participate in from your single edge and attack your enemy's double edge. Yes, the insanely preferred on the web memory card game Hearthstone has been actually compressed to suit your phone or even tablet display screen - as well as it operates incredibly effectively. I am actually uncertain if our experts may anticipate Remote Play to achieve streaming 1080p games at 60 FPS anytime quickly, however I'll fantasize. You can opt to trigger these check points by spending your loot of gemstones picked up during the video game. That may actually be actually a reward for those players that find activities such as Telephone call from Responsibility: Afro-american Ops III much also difficult, and also as gamers get utilized to the auto mechanics and also maps this could turn into the creepier, more planned affair that Naughty Pet is accurately gunning for. I participated in Uncharted 4 during a weekend, as well as due to the opportunity I completed I believed that I was coming down from a 12-hour sugar thrill. a fantastic read noted that calcium mineral may boost blood stream levels from a protein connected with higher danger for heart disease. That was actually, it goes without saying, an odd horror game he could feature on his YouTube channel. Daily journeys, problems, and PvP battles make certain to keep you on your toes no matter exactly how you participate in. You can easily additionally place 3 of a room beside one another to link up those, but you don't obtain as much of a reward across the board when you do this. This is among those 'rub your belly, tap your scalp' titles that has you play pair of video games simultaneously. This linkeds right into DoubleTwist on your Android gadget and also permits your personal computer observe this over your WiFi system. Rather, prioritise cards you make use of often, with a purpose in order to get standard memory cards around focus 8 and above, and rares past level 4. I have the aged Chromecast, the new Chromecast, a COVER TV, and also the Nexus Gamer, and also was able to acquire 90 times from YouTube Red totally free, and $12 in Google Play Credit report, as well as here's how. Detector Brothers Interactive is actually back to publish the activity and also lend it a remarkable variety of characters from tv, films and also comic books. If you ever discover yourself really wanting to watch an NBA activity, right here are actually a few alternatives that you need to be actually mindful from. GSM Field mentioned that Motorola's German branch has actually verified a Nougat launch for the Moto X Play in overdue January, a minimum of in Europe. The timing is ideal as the planet is actually presently pounded with the digital truth subject matter that could likewise be actually credited to Falchion Art Online, the anime set including the personalities participating in activities in a totally virtual planet. Each vehicle shakes up the visuals and the fashion through which you race - the dune buggy, as an example, can easily jump wonderfully over soft sand hillsides where the UFO troubles farmyard cows to include some range in to a much older game format. Whether you're a popular music developer or even a songs enthusiast, these audio editors and also audio gamers will certainly let you appreciate and also make songs on pc and mobile phone. Just a few times does it slide, with the irregular exhausting labyrinth to grind via; mainly, the game is actually a drafty, grin-inducing, dynamic romp with a charming cartoon world. Uplifting the creation from Minecraft was no little accomplishment for 2D sandbox activity Dwarf Citadel Referred to a construction as well as monitoring simulator, Dwarf Barrier has basic text-based graphics in to a more modern, 2006 piece of program. The memory card video game will definitely introduce with some 385 various memory cards, each one offering enhanced truth functions turned on within the computer game as well as unique single reward spells, boosts or fight dogs.
