As established, I'm a big fan of your DBZ takedowns; have you ever written about Buu?
I can't remember where but you called him something like, "The crazy, god-killing monstrosity," and that's such a good phrase. It's easy to let Dragonball blend into one generic fight scene after another if you don't pay attention, and that kind of refocused it for me. I know there's a dozen different versions of Buu, but still.
Let's see... I have, in the past, written about:
The Morality of Majin Buu
The Relationship between Buu and Mr. Satan
Buu is an interesting creature. In the form we first meet him in, he's childish, easily manipulated, and petty. He kills Dabra just for talking shit about him.
Given the difference in their temperaments, it's easy to forget that Buu was the aggressor here.
He's the one who wanted this fight initially. Dabra did initiate round two after Buu initially kicked his ass.
He'd been gone for a couple chapters and came back for more.
But it was Buu that started this shit. He killed Dabra for calling him fat and stupid. He gets similarly baited when Vegeta calls him repugnant... after Babidi explains the meaning of the term.
As part of his childishness, Buu is incredibly susceptible to verbal taunting. He's also incredibly unskilled. Vegeta isn't exactly Mr. Discipline and Skilled Technique over here but he still makes Buu look like a total fucking amateur when they fight.
Vegeta absolutely dominates this battle and the only reason he loses it is because Buu can regenerate from all harm and, when he finally manages to get off a fucking attack, he shows himself to be pretty powerful.
This is what costs Vegeta the fight. He can fight circles around Buu in a straight match and does exactly that, but it doesn't matter because Buu's invincible and has options to compensate for his lack of martial skill. A radial explosion in every direction isn't an attack he has to try and land; It's a wasteful demonstration of power. But a potent one; Even connecting 5% of the ki he released in this moment is enough to badly injure Vegeta and knock him off his game.
This attack doesn't end the fight, but it does buy Buu the breathing room he needs to come up with a strategy of his own employing his unique properties as a... not so much fighter as creature.
Credit where it's due, this is actually really clever. He plucks a roll of his rubbery gum-like flesh to use as a restraint. Then suddenly spits a ki blast as a surprise attack, which catches Vegeta off-guard while he's still trying to puzzle out the problem of this fight.
This forces Vegeta to reflexively dodge straight into Buu's follow-up toss of the binding. A one-two punch with the end result being that Vegeta is now unable to fight. It doesn't matter that Buu can't keep up with him anymore; He can't do anything.
This is the end of the road for Vegeta. It's a straight shot from here to Farewell Kakarot and Final Explosion. Vegeta was the better fighter, but Buu's regenerative invulnerability lent him the time he needed to solve Vegeta.
Given that Buu had trouble keeping up with Vegeta, it's pretty easy to understand why SSJ3 Goku literally uses him as a punching bag.
Goku's confidence that he could have won this fight if he'd been willing to put the effort in is not unwarranted, even if he fatally underestimates the drawbacks of Super Saiyan 3. But Buu's no slouch either.
Ah the famous "He used Vegeta's technique!" moment. Silly as it is, the point is to show us that Buu is a mimicry master like our martial arts crew. He's learning as he fights but he's also a quick study and picks up Goku's own technique in the process.
This is the most dangerous thing about Buu. If you can't pour enough power into one shot to put him down then he'll get right back up unharmed... and he's also learning from every exchange. Just one of those things makes for a dangerous adversary but Buu brings both to the table.
You wouldn't know it for his unassuming demeanor but he's pretty much the apex Dragon Ball fighter; Someone who is near-impossible to put down, has immense ki to bring to the fore, has a ton of weird and esoteric powers to surprise his foes with, and can study his opponents and develop his art midstream of a fight or puzzle out solutions to the problems they present. Majin Buu has everything with no weaknesses.

i need digital artists to know that its okay to get inspo on artstyle/technique or learn from other artists u like. (this applies to trad too tbh but mainly aiming self taught digital)
this is literally how you learn how to draw how YOU want to draw, that is how you find your style!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i didnt look at like 726362626 different artists or artworks ive liked over the years and took little diff things i liked from them then i would not have the style i have !!!!!
students would literally learn how to paint better and paint how THEY wanted to by recreating master's paintings!!!! i have done so many studies like that over my time learning art in school and learning from other artists and developing on it has been one of the best way to develop my style and see what i like and how i wanna represent it!!!!!
u can ask the artist if u like, that is actually quite nice, give them some credit if an artwork ure posting was heavily influenced by theirs, or even giving credit if it was just an inspo
but it really isnt copying as long as u don't copy their whole artstyle without any credit and/or when they're uncomfortable with their artstyle being used, inspo =/= copying
SO GO STUDY THAT ARTWORK THAT U REALLY LIKE AND FIGURE OUT SOME TECHNIQUES ON HOW TO ACHIEVE THE EFFECT U WANT AND EXPERIMENT WITH THEM, PUT UR OWN TWIST ON THEM OR NOT AND SEE HOW U CAN APPLY THEM IN UR ART!!!!! and also do not be scared to change ur art style whenever u want, its fun to try new things and see ur art change
#i saw like 3 different posts in like 2 hours of other artists asking if its okay to take inspo from other artists and learn from them#YES. YES IT IS#GETTING INSPIRED AND LEARNING ISNT THE SAME AS COPYING AND TRACING#PLEASE LEARN TO DRAW HOW U WANT TO DRAW#sometimes trying to figure out with ur own mind how u want ur art to look like is really difficult and borderline impossible#so learning can help with that#BUT ALSO EXPERIMENT AND NEVER PUT AWAY UR IDEAS IN SOME CORNER AND NEVER LOOK AT THEM AGAIN CUZ OUGH I WONT BE ABLE TO DO IT#SOMEONE ELSE CAN DO IT BETTER THAN ME#when u don't know what the hell ure doing and ure experimenting may i remind u that u don't know what the hell ure doing#so keep going until u figure out#and get resources and inspos and learn techniques to help u figure it out#KNOWLEDGE IS POWER PEOPLE#ok rant over idk why i was so aggressive bout this idk how to articulate myself well#rumaiq rambles#digital art#self taught artist#art

heel - @black-brothers-microfic - words: 640
When their parents backs are turned, Lucius Malfoy calls him a ‘right little hellion’. An unholy terror. A rumbustious nightmare. And he gives Andromeda a look like they’re sharing some sort of unspoken yet mutual understanding, and then he sweeps off onto the train with airs that suggest this is all so very beneath him.
At eleven years of age, Sirius already has a reputation about him. He’s loud and he’s abrasive, and he’s at times downright rebellious. He’s what Uncle Alphard calls ‘the little performer’. The world is Sirius’s stage, and they’re all just chorus members in the Life and Times of Sirius Black: A Musical.
It’s 1971 and Regulus is ten-years-old the first time he’s on Platform 9 and 3/4. Sirius has his Great Horned Owl (that he called Archimedes) in a cage that’s secured to his trolley, and they’re trailing after their mother. The owl is an evil-looking blood-thirsty thing that Sirius has trained to screech and bite any time Regulus gets close. “He can smell weakness,” Sirius had said to him about it, “that’s why he does it.”
As they come to a stop amidst a sea of parents and students, the owl blinks at Regulus, rattling the bars of its prison with its beak, and Sirius flashes Regulus a grin. The owl, to its credit, is as unfortunately loyal as it is menacing. It had sounded the alarm a few weeks ago when Regulus had tried to break into Sirius’s bedroom looking for the heirloom chess set that Uncle Alphard had given them to share (and Sirius, being Sirius, had quickly squirrelled away in his bedroom because Sirius Black does not share).
“I’ll know if you’ve been in my room,” Sirius had warned him before they’d left Grimmauld Place for Kings Cross.
“You would not."
“I will. I’ve charmed my door. It’ll tell me if you even touch the door knob."
And honestly, Regulus would not put it past Sirius to have done just that. Blacks don’t play by ministry rules, so Sirius mastered many of the First Year spells by the time he’d turned ten. “A quick study,” Walburga had said approvingly, because even though Sirius is an “embarrassment to the family” and “can’t be taken anywhere”, at least he isn’t an idiot
Regulus is ten and hasn’t yet managed to master all of the First Year spells. It’s just that he can’t stop getting hung up on wand technique. Sirius has a much more intuitive understanding of how he needs to swish and how he needs to flick and how his wand should be held in his hand. He just seems to know, but he just seems to know a great many things
“He’s a natural,” Walburga had said about it. Because even though Sirius unashamedly sasses Abraxas Malfoy and was caught trying to sneak sweets to the Malfoy’s house elf, at least Sirius can cast simple a severing charm without inadvertently exploding anything.
He's not that kind of embarrassing.
“I expect you to be on your best behaviour,” Walburga says. “And I expect to hear only positive things from your professors.” She’s walked them as close as they can get to the train without being on the actual train itself. She isn’t willing to let Sirius loose on the platform; at least he’ll be somewhat contained on the train itself.
Sirius doesn't pay her any mind, and there’s nothing she can really do about it at this stage. Not in front of everyone; not with an image to maintain. Instead, he waits impatiently for the all clear, and when he does receive it (albeit with a sharp reminder to behave himself, he’s a Black after all), Sirius departs without so much as a goodbye.
He does, however, turn to Regulus and remark, just as sharply as their mother had, “Remember, I’ll know if you’ve been in my bedroom."
And he leaves it at that.

how did u learn to paint?? like i just cant wrap my head around it
<3 I love answering asks like this!
You will have to bare with me, I don't save many of my studies, and my files aren't that organized so I don't have as many images as I would like.
The studies I've found most helpful for myself personally with painting are various master studies. (This is also, as always, alongside study of fundamentals.) And always follow a study with self-critique (and, if you can get it, outside critique!)
"Master" in this sense means anyone who you want to learn something from.
One way you can do this is by copying an artist's work directly. This is to try and understand some of their stylistic techniques. Leyendecker, Andrew Loomis, and John Singer Sargent are personal favorites of mine! I try to keep these quick, I'm not trying to get an exact copy.

I also get a lot out of copying photos. In this case, I'm not trying to glean some technique, rather, I'm trying to interpret the photo and explore my own stylizations.

(photo credit mountain men of alaska )
I also really enjoy taking a painting or piece that already exists, and making it "mine" by putting my characters in it haha, which is sort of a combination of master studies and photo studies!

(William Bruce Ellis - Covent Garden (1930)) (Barberini Faun)
And then, in my work that's not a study at all, I'm informed by all of these!

What master studies do is help me refine my style and practice my technique, but also I'm communicating with artists of the past through my art! They're teaching me! And I have so much to learn.
And of course... most importantly... I paint.
a lot.
I don't do as much study anymore, not because I feel I've learned all I need to, but because for work I draw 50+ drawings a week. 'Drawing for work' and 'study' occupy the same space in my brain and I need some fun drawing time!
So to sum up, draw a lot, reference constantly, and copy the people you want to draw more like!
(and, of course, when doing a study off of someone else's work, always give them credit. If it's your photos there's no need.)
#I really tried to pare this one down cause it got LONG#as always I am more than happy to delve deeper into any of these particular points!#I'm always always always happy to explain as much of my process as possible#and I'd love to pass off some of my knowledge to others!#I love to see people creating art and want to do anything I can to help empower people to do so more#I love you mwa mwa mwa#asks#edsheerankinnie#art tips#painting tips#I pretty much wear my influences on my sleeve#like I don't care#I honestly get so so so excited about art I'm like shaking a little#like oh my god#we get to MAKE Things#we get to sit down and through the power of our own hands we get to CREATE#and I get to access the knowledge of humanity. throughout history#I get to reach my hand out and have people who are long gone pass their knowledge on to me.#like come on. that's unreal...#at some point you will unlock this feeling if you let yourself#the feeling of connection over centuries#when you hear michelangelo was so shocked by the lifelike nature of his own sculpture he threw his chisel at it to see if it would move#when you see rockwell's love for simple moments between normal people#when you see cave paintings of a woman and you know she was loved.#you get to fucking connect#and feel human#and it's really special#and it's why I think everyone should draw. everyone should draw a LITTLE#music too#augh I'm emotional

HAMMER HARLEEN AND THE FISTS OF CLOWNING (FREE FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION)
I have been looking for what martial arts Harley Quinn may have learned as she is seen going toe-to-toe with the likes of Catwoman, Nightwing, Batgirl, Lord Death Man, and Batman, to name a few. All that comes up is her backround in gymnastics and learning from the Bat Family, and her aggression and fearless approach of being a wild card. She is a scrapper, but Batman and Nightwing are too skilled to be beaten by a simple scrapper. So, what is her fighting secret?

Source: Pinterest. If you know the artist, please let me know and I will credit their work.
What I am about to present is not canon, and I do my best to stick to canon because this is about Harley Quinn and how she is presented in popular culture and not my fantasies, but martial arts was my first love ♡. I have spent over 30 years training and studying various forms of martial arts from books to learning under local masters, so I have more than a basic understanding of the Fist.

Source: Harley's hammer from a keychain I bought.
First, we all know she had a backround in gymnastics and was a criminal psychologist that worked in Gotham, where crime is the rule and not the exception. With that, before she was the Maiden of Mischief, she was just Dr. Harleen Quinzel, so it would be logical that she took self defense classes. She also grew up in New York and is Jewish, so Krav Maga, an Israeli self-defense art inspired by Israeli military hand-to-hand combat, would make the most sense. Krav Maga is also one of the more popular and efficacious self defense systems in the United States.
Krav Maga uses open hand strikes, clinches, knees, elbows, weapons disarms, and evasion tactics. They also teach eye gouging, throat and groin strikes, as well as grappling defense. Being a military art, it is based on survival and not for sport or beauty like prize fighting or traditional martial arts.

Source: Harley VS. Apokolips
Although she was a gymnast, gymnastics does not teach fighting, but there are martial arts that combine gymnastics and fighting, the most famous being Wushu and Shaolin Kung Fu. There is an ancient kung fu method called Yi Jin Jing, or Muscle Tendon Change Classic, which is influenced by Yoga and combines a mix of flexibility and strength exercises.
Shaolin Kung Fu combines acrobatics, gymnastics, iron body, animal forms, weapons forms, meditation, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I wouldn't go as far as saying she trained in China, but New York has a large martial arts community and its own Shaolin Temple, so it is a possibility.

Source: Google. Young Sifu Shi Yan Ming training in Shaolin Temple. He runs the New York branch of Shaolin.
Another style that involves acrobatics and kung fu, which is one of my favorite styles, is Drunken Boxing.
It isn't a single style. It is taught to intermediate to advanced students once they have mastered the basics of their style. It has a mix of tumbling, jumping, spinning, flipping, and deceptive tactics and techniques based on the movements of a drunkard.

Sources: Jackie Chan, Drunken Master 2, Gordon Liu, Shaolin Drunken Monk.
Finally, we have her weapons. Her most notable being her bat and (oversized) mallot.

Source: Harley Quinn Animated Series
The Irish have a stick fighting style called "bataireacht" which uses a shillelagh, a hard wood (blackthorn) stick with a natural nob as a handle that is good for hooking and smashing, such as smashing a skull.

Source: irelandjournal.typepad.com
Of course, swinging a bat at someone is a very effective way to end almost any fight.

Aizawa vs Shinso Hitoshi
POV Aizawa:
People like you and me have to be resourceful… When the time comes… if we can't protect ourselves then we're as good as dead. Keep practising.
I studied the Binding Cloth for six years, but I was learning from scratch… No one was there to shepherd my progress.
Your quirk is quite strong, Shinso, but it would be illogical to have let you join the hero course given your entrance exam results… However, now that you can fight with Binding Cloth, it might be possible for you to transfer. But we'll have to test you.
_
POV Shinso:
I've grown into the person I am today thanks to you, but there's no way that I've reached a plateau. I have to get stronger. You haven't wasted your time training me, I swear. So, please, continue to teach me, Eraser Head!
It took Eraser six years to master catching people with this Binding Cloth. Will I ever be that good? Yes! I must master this technique. I can't disappoint my teacher!
I can't count on my quirk when fighting Eraser Head. That means I have to win this battle using what I've learned! I don't know how well the skills he taught me will work on him, but I'll have to try!
Credit to RageVG on Reddit for extracting the files from the game.

I have a question not just for you but also for you and like. Artists at large. Do y’all mind if someone copies your art while practicing their own?? I’ve always felt weird about it like it’s theft, but I love your journal pages and just wanna recreate them
Thank you for asking and for the kind words! I believe that copying other artists is crucial in learning artistic skills. It's a great tool for developing techniques and your own style in consequence. During art classes, it is normal to learn from old masters and painters of the past eras, and it is always viewed as studies or sketches, not a copy or plagiarism. When it comes to modern art and illustrations, the situation is very similar. I allow everybody to redraw my art or use it as inspiration, but it's important to keep in mind that it is only a practice. If you'd like to copy an illustration to learn and keep it in your sketchbook, it's perfectly fine! But I think you shouldn't post it online as yours/ without credits to the original creator. Publishing a copy like that and claiming that it is yours, is what makes it plagiarism, not the act of copying itself. I know this opinion can be different if you ask another artist, but this is my stance.
#recently I found my exact drawing copied in another technique on Instagram without credits and it made me really sad#You can't just redraw something and claim it's merely 'inspired'#Ask

okay so you may not be interested in this but hey here’s some information about an under appreciated woman ! (that’s always great)
SO. Alice Ball. She was an African American woman born in the late 1800s and received multiply degrees in different subjects including a masters degree from the university of hawaii, making her the first african american woman to do so (at least from that school). while studying in hawaii, she did research on chaulmoogra trees because it had recently been discovered that the oil from these trees was used as a cure for hansens disease (or leprosy), but the solutions that had been discovered came with their own problems and side affects. but when alice was 23, she came up with her own technique now called The Ball Method which made the oil into a water-soluble solution for injection. unfortunately before she could fully complete her research and share it with the world, she passed away due to chlorine gas inhalation in a demonstration (though her death certificate says tuberculosis). shortly after she died, a man named Arthur L. Dean discovered her work since he was a teacher at the university where she’d been doing the research. he continued Alice’s work and published the findings without crediting her in anyway, completely stealing her work, even calling it the Dean Method. luckily, in 1922, a mentor of Alice’s, Harry Holloway published an article crediting Alice and making it known that Dean stole her work. twenty years later, a chaulmoogra tree was planted in front of the University of Hawaii with a plaque dedicated to Alice Ball and that same year, February 29th was dedicated to her memory (which is kinda unfair but okay..). Then about 90 years after her death she was awarded the Regents’ Medal of Honor by the university of hawaii sorry if this was too much or boring at all- i’ve done several reports on her because i think she deserves more recognition bcuz yeah
I think this is amazing!! :)
Not what I was expecting when u said an ‘info dump’ but it’s still great!
I’m a little busy so I skimmed through it currently, but I wanted to post it for others to read too! (And I’m gonna go back and reread it when I get the free time bc yes ma’am)
Anyways, thank you! And for all I care you can send me as many as you want of these lol

Infinity Nikki - Queen's Palace Ruins Part II

Note: Eerie season opened a bunch of new lore books and I finally had time to explore it. Once again Queen Philomia is not what the rumors painted her as, and it seems she learned the violin to try to impress her mother. Although there isn't a whole lot of new information that isn't learned from the quests I still decided to type them. I think I enjoy suffering. Credit for the second image to my besti Vi who wanted to help.
Summary: Olivia was ill at one point as there are records of the queen ordering the courtyard to be redone (not sure which queen could be Philomia though). A music book with notes from Philomia suggests the late queen traveled a lot "to distant lands." Olivia and Philomia have different mothers and their father didn't let Philomia attend her mother's funeral. Philomia also seemed to not mind that Strange and Sir Percy argued a lot in front of her. Lastly is a survey conducted for a royal decree that seemed to anger nobles but made the common people pretty happy. If I had to hedge a guess probably something had something to do with taxes or wages.
Palace Inner Court Construction Records …
The maintenance of the courtyard remains a top priority. Her Majesty the Queen issued a direct decree: "As the autumn chill sets in, the palace has fallen into disrepair, and the courtyard is no longer suitable for Olivia's rest and recovery. In addition to restoring the facilities, it is imperative to plant evergreens and other flourishing flora throughout the courtyard. These will not only enhance its beauty but also purify the air. those entrusted with this task must devote themselves fully, striving for perfection."
To that end, I have submitted a formal request to the Minister of Finance for the necessary budget and personnel, anticipating swift approval so that work may commence without delay. -Palace Gardener
Music, Techniques, and Inspiration (On the flyleaf is written, "To my dearest Philene," likely a gift from the late Queen.) …This book, written in vivid and meticulous prose, explores the lives of renowned musicians from around the world and delves into the sources of their musical inspiration. It provides a comprehensive overview of music theory, an analysis on creative techniques, and seeks to ignite a deep passion for music in its readers.
(There are numerous annotations throughout the pages, with ink markings both old and new, indicating that this book has been studied and cherished for at least several decades.) From older ink marks, a child's eager handwriting reads: So, if I master music theory and techniques, I can summon musical inspiration at will! Maybe I can use the stories of Mother's travels to distant lands in her youth as inspiration for my music. Would Mother like it? … In more recent, hurried handwriting, a single note remains: This is useless…
A Letter Dear Philomia, Philene, Philene, spring has arrived, and the potted plant you gave me earlier is already in bloom. Have the flowers blossomed in the palace as well?
Since my mother was crowned queen, you moved to the Palace, and we haven't seen each other. The other letters I wrote to you before still haven't been answered… Yesterday the headmaid brought back a parcel from the Palace. I thought it was a reply but when I opened it, it turned out to be a sheet of music sent to the musician. Miss Musician told me you didn't have time to reply because you were too busy. Being an adult must come with so many worries… If only I could stay a child forever.
I heard that Father wouldn't let you come back for your mother's funeral. You must feel so heartbroken not being able to say goodbye to her one last time. Last night, I sneaked out to the cemetery when the guards weren't looking and places a bouquet of flowers for you on the late Queen's grave. Does that bring you even a little comfort? The real reason I'm writing is to invite you to the birthday banquet next month! You couldn't attend in previous years because of your duties, but can you come this year? If not, I'll have to let the doll you left behind in the palace, Philene, sit next to me instead. At least then, one Philene will be there at my party! Philene, Philene, isn't life at Palace dreadfully dull? I wish I could come and keep you company, but the headmaid insists I'm still too young to leave home… In the meantime, I've asked Miss Musician to prepare a few music books for you! When you're bored, you can look through them. I've even transcribed the nursery rhyme we used to sing together as children.
There's so much more I want to say, but the headmaid says that children who chatter too much can be annoying. So I'll save the rest for my birthday party! You must come! And one last thing… If it's not too much trouble, please write to me more often, sis. Your sister, Olivia
Unsigned Diary ….. Lord Strange, accompanied by a caravan carrying rare and precious treasures, briefly stopped at the Palace, apparently because the weight of the load caused one of their wheels to break. Honestly, despite his humble origins, this man, who now holds the highest position in the royal council, doesn't instill me with much warmth. I can't help but feel that behind his constant smile, he views everyone as mere pawns. Also, his eyes make you feel like he's evaluating goods on a shelf.
In terms of being approachable, Sir Percy is the best. Although his face is as hard as iron, he treats everyone equally, even people like me, a humble servant stationed in a remote palace. He may not have a hint of a smile on his face, but his fairness is evident in his actions. For some reason, Lord Strange and Sir Percy seem to be at odds with each other, constantly clashing whenever they're in the same room. They're always verbally sparring, dueling with words. I've even heard that when it came to deciding the venue for Princess Olivia's coming-of-age ceremony, whether it would be held in the Royal Palace, as tradition dictates, or at the Palace where the two sisters spent their childhoods, they wouldn't stop arguing in front of Her Majesty. A senior servant who'd once intimately served Queen Philoma said that Her Majesty actually saw this as a sign of their good relationship. I don't get it. It's hard to imagine what it would be like for Lord Strange, who's always smiling, and Sir Percy, who never smiles, having a raging argument while completely red in the face… But Her Majesty doesn't mind, so I guess it's fine, right? …. I almost forgot! The chief musician ordered someone to come and take the music scores Her Majesty left at the Palace today, saying they needed to use them as the foundation for a new piece for the coming-of-age ceremony. They had to hurriedly gather everything before the headmaid noticed… So many people are preparing for Princess Oivia's coming-of-age ceremony. It sounds like it will be such a grand event! I really wish I could attend and witness it myself!
An Old, Trimmed Document (An old, trimmed document, its edges bearing creases that suggest it was once carefully tucked between the pages of a book, only to be accidentally left here.)
…
Following the orders of higher authorities, a public opinion survey was conducted regarding the recent decree issued by the Heartcraft Royal Family. The results are as follows. To protect the privacy of the citizens, all interviewees were given pseudonyms:
Robert: A decree? What does that have to do with me? I don't care much anyway, so why bother worrying about it? You say that according to the new decree, I'll have to pay a few hundred less Blings just from farming? That's great! With that extra money, I can buy a new loom for my wife!
Angeli: Really, no one will know who I am? Then I'll say what I'm thinking… Of course, it's a good thing! With this new policy, the boss can't just lower my wages with a snap of his fingers like he always does! Hmph, just thinking about his big, green face makes me feel so much better!
Crispy Candy: A decree? Is that some kind of cookie? I don't quite understand the question… But Dad said he'll buy me an extra jar of candy every month from now on… I love candy!
Tea or Coffee: I… I work as a maid at the Count's house… Yes, the Count. He's been in his study recently, discussing important matters with other nobles and officials. When I went in to drop off some water, I overheard them talking about strategies regarding the new decree… But it's such a good decree, so why do they need to discuss strategies against it?
Leanda: My colleagues have been discussing this matter recently as well. If you ask me, the person behind this decree has been too bold. Even for the sake of protecting the people, it shouldn't be so radical. Trying to fight against the long-standing nobles with one's own power won't be enough. Those useless officials won't let her get away with this.

Personal Branch (Xia Xiaoyin): #1 Dongshui Illusion Techniques (东水幻术) Part 6 | Beyond The World 世界之外
Part 5
♡———♡
The wedding began.
Dongshui Village isn't very big, and most people are related to each other in some way. Combined with the fact that the news of my broken engagement had spread like wildfire, many people came to the wedding today with a "let's see what happens" attitude.
However, they weren't necessarily malicious. Perhaps they were just curious. Curious to see what kind of person I would marry under these circumstances.
Even my runaway ex-fiancé, Wu Hui, came.
When Xia Xiaoyin and I walked into the wedding hall, the originally noisy crowd instantly fell silent, then began to whisper amongst themselves.
After all, if we put everything else aside, just looking at his appearance and bearing, there are few people in the world who could compare to Xia Xiaoyin.
Guest A: I used to think that young master Wu Hui was a rare talent. After their daughter was jilted, I thought she definitely wouldn't find anyone better. Now it seems that might not be the case...
Guest B: Yeah, looking at it this way, we can't say for sure what the real reason behind the broken engagement was. After all, how could she find such a great groom in such a short time...
Xia Xiaoyin, holding my hand, steadily walked with me into the hall. As if thinking of something, he suddenly leaned down and whispered in my ear.
Xia Xiaoyin: So, which one is your ex-fiancé?
I discreetly pointed to Wu Hui in the crowd.
You: That one, the one in blue.
Actually, it was also my first time seeing him in person. This Wu Hui fellow is reasonably good-looking, but maybe I've seen too many handsome faces. This level of attractiveness doesn't really leave much of an impression on me anymore.
Xia Xiaoyin gave him a brief, dismissive glance.
Xia Xiaoyin: ...How ugly.
Xia Xiaoyin then looked at me again.
Xia Xiaoyin: I'll give you credit, you have decent taste.
You: What do you mean, decent taste?
Xia Xiaoyin: You ultimately chose me.
After that, Xia Xiaoyin remained silent, calmly accepting the gazes from all directions.
Under the master of ceremonies' guidance, Xia Xiaoyin and I were led into the first trial—a simple maze made of gourd vines.
During my studies, I learned that the same maze is used for all weddings here. Most newlyweds have already secretly figured out the maze's paths, so it's not difficult to get through.
But Xia Xiaoyin and I are different. Xia Xiaoyin has been hampered by his leg injury, and I've had to spend time taking care of him. We haven't had a chance to try the maze, nor have we looked for any guides.
So now, we're just standing at the maze entrance, staring at each other blankly.
Xia Xiaoyin: Shouldn't we go left here?
You: I think it's right.
Ten minutes later.
Xia Xiaoyin: I have a feeling we've been here before. That's why I said we should've gone left.
You: Whatever you say.
Forty minutes later.
Xia Xiaoyin and I finally found the exit of the maze through a process of trial and error.
Before leaving, we exchanged a look, quickly composed ourselves, and put on an act of perfect harmony, arm in arm as we approached the master of ceremonies.
I heard the guests watching nearby whispering to each other.
Guest A: Young people in love are so sweet. They can spend so much time together in such a simple maze.
Guest B: Yeah, when you're in love, even plain water tastes sweet. When two people are together, taking their time, chatting, time just flies by, doesn't it?
I glanced at Xia Xiaoyin, thinking, "You have no idea what we went through in there." Unexpectedly, I met Xia Xiaoyin's gaze. He met my eyes, then immediately looked away, the skin behind his ears slightly flushed.
Xia Xiaoyin: Hurry up, let's go to the next stage.
He's surprisingly enthusiastic about completing these trials.
The second trial requires each person to find an item belonging to the other.
Since Xia Xiaoyin arrived with nothing, I asked Liu Hu to help me buy a piece of jade, pretending it was Xia Xiaoyin's personal item.
Now, it was time to "find" it in the wilderness.
Since I bought the jade myself, finding it wasn't difficult.
I picked out the jade, held it in my hand, and looked towards Xia Xiaoyin.
They had taken my necklace and mixed it with several other necklaces, scattering them randomly throughout the wilderness. I was a little worried that Xia Xiaoyin wouldn't be able to tell which one was mine.
But unexpectedly, Xia Xiaoyin only glanced at the other necklaces before walking past them, accurately locating my necklace and bringing it to me.
According to the process, after finding the other person's item, you have to personally put it on them.
I bent down and carefully fastened the jade pendant for Xia Xiaoyin.
After I finished fastening his, it was Xia Xiaoyin's turn to put the necklace on me.
He stood very close to me, slightly lowering his head, his long, slender neck almost touching mine.
He seemed to be looking intently at the necklace clasp in his hands, over my shoulder.
A large shadow loomed over me, and I could almost feel his breath.
I lowered my voice—
You: How did you recognize this one as mine?
Xia Xiaoyin: You wear it every day. Why wouldn't I recognize it?
The necklace was fastened, and Xia Xiaoyin took a step back. The air of closeness surrounding me dissipated as well.
Xia Xiaoyin: What are you standing there for? Let's go.
You: Oh.
I hurried forward and instinctively grabbed the edge of his wide sleeve, following him towards the ancestral hall where the third trial would take place.
Xia Xiaoyin was wearing traditional Dongshui Village clothing today. He looked quite handsome in it, and it didn't look at all out of place on him. Or rather, with his looks and physique, it would be hard for him to look bad in anything.
Liu Hu was right about one thing: being around Xia Xiaoyin, even if just as a companion, is a feast for the eyes—as long as he doesn't open his mouth.
In front of the Wu clan temple, the master of ceremonies and others were already in position.
Master of Ceremonies: The third rite—the bride and groom enter the temple to make their marriage vows.
The music of strings and pipes began to play, and Xia Xiaoyin and I, guided by the master of ceremonies, entered the temple.
To avoid offending the deities, only the master of ceremonies and the bride and groom could enter here. Everyone else remained outside to observe the ceremony.
The master of ceremonies had already explained the process to us—the couple would take turns making their vows and then exchange tokens. The tokens were the wooden dolls we had carved ourselves.
The temple was very quiet, dust motes dancing in the beams of light filtering through the window lattices.
Before the Wu clan deities, Xia Xiaoyin and I stood facing each other, gazing at one another.
Xia Xiaoyin: I am willing to be with Y/N, from this life to all future lives, never to leave or forsake her.
You: I am willing to be with Yin Xia, from this life to all future lives, never to leave or forsake him.
I saw Xia Xiaoyin's eyes flicker for a moment.
Indeed, this marriage contract, even the names are false.
He took his carved wooden doll from the tray offered by the master of ceremonies and handed it to me.
I finally saw the doll that Xia Xiaoyin had carved himself.
The doll was rather ugly, but it carried the faint warmth of his body.
I also handed him my doll.
Xia Xiaoyin took the doll from my hand, his face full of disgust.
Xia Xiaoyin: So ugly.
You: Thank you. I carved a doll of you.
Xia Xiaoyin: I made sure to carve your doll to be very beautiful.
I looked at the doll in my hand and was filled with doubt. I felt that, no matter what, the doll I carved was at least a little better than the one Xia Xiaoyin made. But, considering that His Highness the Regent was helping me act out this charade for free, I decided to let it go.
Just at that moment, a clap of thunder suddenly rang out outside the temple. I turned to look and saw a huge bolt of lightning flash across the sky.
Master of Ceremonies: According to tradition, if a sudden downpour, windstorm, or snowfall occurs while the ceremony is being performed in the temple, the ceremony cannot be considered complete. You will need to return to the temple on the same day next year to finish the ceremony.
Xia Xiaoyin's expression looked very unpleasant, but he didn't say anything.
I let out a soft sigh.
It's clearly just a fake contract, yet even the heavens aren't willing to be our witness.

was poking around trying to figure out why my own concept of me as a dom (too paranoid about hurting someone to push hard enough, generally a decent time but nothing special apart from the occasional fluke home run) is so fucking different from what is apparently me as a dom according to people who’ve subbed for me – really fucking good, & often as if i’ve read their minds and given them what they didn’t know they needed.
and i realized that i, 25 and two years max into researching how to be a good dom, have been regularly comparing myself to the people writing the fucking manual on how to do a scene well. like obv people’s qualification varies broadly but if i’m saving it to my spreadsheet it’s a good scene, a masterful scene, and no shit someone in their mid-50s who’s been having freak sex longer than i’ve been alive has forgotten more than i’ll ever know. the thing is, the person subbing for me’s experiences of subbing generally aren’t the scene most worth publishing by an old guard porn wars veteran sexpert, they’re, like a lot of mine when i was subbing pre-stone identity, flashes of kinda unsatisfying lines with people who didn’t know what they were doing, or way worse.
which is another post, one i’ve made & y’all’ve read before, but the point in this one is, studying technique is (unfortunately) far from the norm. hell, being crippled is a transferable skill because some folks might’ve been to a class on bondage but they haven’t on sexting, & while you were busy leaving the house i was studying the goddamn art. translating instructions on how to live something into how to talk about living it, the same key shift i do for everything else in my life.
trying to give myself credit where it’s earned + space to grow, moving forward. but like – damn, y’all, i’m good at this.
#mac.txt#why not take me now as i am?#impurity culture#life is in your house too#s.a#implied#ask to tag#tomorrow sexting will be good again

Do you have any tips on actually getting into and learning art? I love your art and whenever I see it I get the urge to make my own, but I'm not sure what to do or where to start. Also whenever I see your art I have to stand up and run around my room because I have no other way of expressing how BIFAJSHFJKASBFLSDHBFS your art makes me feel.
First of all, ASJDKDKAKAJAF THANK YOU
Secondly, @/skyloftian_nutcase got a somewhat similar ask that I and a lot of other artists reblogged with various pieces of advice, I would check it out!
My response was mostly for it you are looking to get a foundational base in figure drawing and how to measure and all that jazz, which I do think that is super important cus if you can draw complex subjects and understand how they form, then you can draw them simplified!
But even more than that, just start drawing what interests you. I love drawing people so I end up studying anatomy and poses and facial expressions the most. I love adding backgrounds as well so I've been trying to incorporate more of those into my drawings as well!
Other skills will follow, but if you hate what you're doing, you're not going to want to practice or create.
I end up using a LOT of pinterest posts for reference or inspiration. I try not to downright copy a pose anymore, but I'll find multiple sources and kind of make them my own, the best I can! Pose reference apps are great too, cus you can maneuver the doll into whatever position you need. Great for very specific poses you can find pics of, or have trouble modeling on yourself.
Tracing and copying others work is a FANTASTIC way to study styles and techniques and improve your own skill and find your own style! Just be sure to credit your sources if you share on social media. I did a lot of master studies when I was in art school! Find artists who are more skilled than your and/or have different styles than you and learn from each other☺️ it's a great way to challenge yourself, make friends, and improve! Iron sharpens Iron, and what not😉
On the matter of drawing programs, I use Clip Studio Paint and LOVE IT. it was a one time fee for me (dont know if it still is) and was waaay cheaper than photoshop, which I had used for years to draw. Much more geared towards artists. But there are a lot of great free programs out there too! I've only used the 2 tho, so I would just google free drawing programs so you can test them out first.
If you don't work digitally, any material goes! I would start out with cheap materials first as you're building your skills. No need to spend $50 on 1 tube of water color when you don't know how to paint haha. Take it from me, who spent close to $1k in paints over 3 years of school and im TRASH at painting haha. Like, actually terrible lol.
Idk if this answers any of your questions, but feel free to send more asks or message me if you have more specific questions or clarification! I'll try to help if I can❤️
Art is a skill you have to build and takes time, so give yourself some grace, and laugh at your mistakes💪 as long as you enjoy it, that's most important.

(same anon as before) No prob, I'll just post what I wanted to talk about here.
I'm trying to write a fic with KvZ as the focus and you depict him so well with your art, I kinda want to ask for your opinion on him and Genshin and their relationship (huge GnKnt shipper here) just to get a different perspective and more depth into what you think of them. I love how you portray them both and I'd appreciate hearing what you think.
Also as an amateur artist, if you could give me any art tips about drawing like you do, especially with all the symbolism and metaphors, I'd really appreciate it.
That's all, thanks, and sorry if I bothered you!
vvv
Thank you! But you give me too much credit. I’ve mostly just drawn variations of the two standing in the dark [gestures to img below]. Admittedly, I haven’t thought too deeply about their relationship beyond Klimt’s mental decline (and how that affected the people around him) and their final duel. But if it’s anything, I view them both as impulsive and emotional. I don’t really have a solid opinion on the matter of their marital status. Sorry, I just enjoy seeing guys who are doomed by the narrative be self destructive and tear their lives apart 🤷♂️

As for art tips— I don’t know how experienced you are, but regardless of skill level, you should have a good grasp on the fundamentals (eg: values, proportion, perspective, line quality, etc.). Once you have a handle on the basics, drawing from life, doing master copies, photo studies, etc. helps further develop and hone your skills.
I don’t have any good resources explaining things, but search around; there's plenty of free art learning resources online. I’ve heard good things about Proko on youtube. It's also good to look at artists of different styles, mediums, and eras. That way, you can learn from analysing their techniques and you can develop a style of your own.
A small word of advice— if you're still a beginner, don't get too caught up on the details and on complex techniques. Those things will come in due time (or if you want to push yourself, but I don't really recommend force. you should enjoy creating art). Beautifully rendered art with unintentional poor proportions and composition sticks out like a sore thumb (unless you don't mind, then you do you).
Explaining my creative process is tough since most of it just kind of happens, so I’m sorry if this comes out incomprehensible. For me, when it comes to symbolism, it’s basically analysing the character and what situation you want them in and honing in on specific ideas. Let’s use these pieces for example:
Kazuma has an association with snakes because his family crest represents snake eyes. Here, I’m using the snake to symbolise his hatred, which stems from his father's death. On the left, he wields it. He's seemingly calm and under control. The snake is ready to strike. To the right, his hatred spirals and nearly consumes him. It's the demon inside him 🤓
Besides the obvious of what happens in their story, some things you can draw from is how a character presents themselves, perspectives, occupation, hobbies, personal effects, cultural/religious/societal/etc. background, conflicts, era/location, etc. But other than that, symbolism can be incorporated in smaller, subtler ways, like the way someone holds a bottle, how an article of clothing is worn, and the like. Watching movies/tv, reading comics, and other media helps. Pay attention to how the director/author frames and lights things 👍
(side note: karuma is a recurring symbol in tgaac)
Not sure if anything I wrote here is of help, but yeah
